Thats because Lodizal spawns in Iceclad, not Cobalt Scar. The turn in guy, who makes the shell piece into the shield is in Cobalt Scar.

On Veeshan I see this shell sell for 9-6k. I traded one for a SBW. I know the SBW has more wisdom but this shield can go on your back, plus it has enduring breath. I use a plated sheild which has also good ac and wisdom for my paly.

I just got the shell piece from Lodi. He is on an 11 hour timer, or so I hear from the guildie who was camping him for the map piece. 11hours after he is killed, a 50 minute timer starts. He will pop during this time. A good full group of high 50s can probably take him. We had that plus a few more and never CHed the MT, just Celestial Healed. Make sure to have all but MT back off when he enrages or youll have ranger gate and rogue gate from his ripostes.

Not an item for a PVP server in my opinion, but a wonderful
# Sep 27 2002 at 2:22 AM Rating: Decent
Aloha all and well met

Silly goose -- this is not a monk item :-) Even if it were monk wearable, the 5.0 weight would prove exceptionally heavy, even to the most weight careful monk for his remaining items.

About the great turtle. Lodi is NOT on a 7 day cycle as some people might think. Waiting for the evil Stormfeather to spawn (for another semi-related quest), I had several Lodi spawns. 240 tracking for rangers is a wonderful thing-- a properly ranger can easily cover both spawn sites, if someone is not camped directly on the spawn site for the specific mob.

As for killing the great turtle for this quest, well a solid well balanced group can easily defeat this mob. I have been told that a single topor shammy can defeat him, but I have not actually seen such a battle yet. Generally, a single MA, a couple damage dealers and a cleric/topor shammy, and an int caster or two to speed things along.

As for the item itself. There are many options available for an enduring breath item these days. EB is required in at least a couple zones (KK and the grey) and is useful in a number of other situations. few items in the game, however, offer EB on an item that has such lovely stats on a generally all purpose item.

This leads to a final point of discussion -- who "wins" the item on a hunt. Generally, at least on our server, Lodi is not a well respected camp, and the first group to arrive with the sufficient combat power to kill the mob, usually kills the mob, much to the chagrin of a younger person whom is waiting for the under equipped guildies to arrive to assist her/him to kill said mob.

So the division of loot is generally as follows: Camper of Lodi gets 1 item of choice off of the drop; map fragment is awarded by lotto to the melee who have not done the quest; spells are passed to useable classes; remaining items are generally lottoed by a /ran 200 500 top roller picking choice item, on down the list.

On a guild hunt, naturally guild leader or raid leader passes out the items by whatever methodolgy the guild uses: NBG; rank system; or lotted by (guildname) dragon kill points.

As all the items on this cash cow/turtle are in demand, it is good for any class to keep or sell said items accordingly by their class.

Hope this helps in your hunts of the great turtle and the allocation of "phat lewt"

Should pure wis casters be given priority over non wis meelee's? ie, should a Cleric get first dibs over a warrior? On the one hand +10wis is great for back slot for non meelee wis casters(although you could easily go buy an Acrylia Studded Cloak; MUCH cheaper than what this shield would go for) but then again the 23ac +10str is insane for a meelee's back slot. Personally, I think all the classes listed should get an even roll, the stats are too broad and wide to give any one class priority.

Why has the price on this thing dropped to like 20K and dropping in bazaar on Veeshan. Is there some really easy to get better back item in PoP that I don't know about? I was gonna buy one the other day for 25 K then I saw one at 20K then another one at 20K then another one (for some reason, none of them would sell for a penny less than 20K). WTF is going on?

I would say this would make a good shaman item for not only does it give good wisdom, it also give a charsmia bonus which can effect our abilty to be able to slow mobs. This is the reason why shamans have a charsmia buff in the first place. There's nothing i hate more than getting resisted and wasting my mana. The ac would also be very helpful to a shaman because we attract aggro with are slows and our attack spells. The str would also be helpful for boosting our attack, being the ghetto tanks that we are and the need for us to hit the mob when we use our epic or other weapons like the rune etched or winterstorm. I would rather see a shaman get it and be able to successfully slow something in an epic situation than be resisted and have most everyone die. Wouldn't you agree? You would think 5 charsmia wouldn't make that much of a difference but it can.

Where did you get the idea that charisma affects slow? It has no effect on slows at all. The reason shamans have it is because they can buff almost every other stat too, lol.

If I am playing my rogue and I miss out on a roll for this I would be quite upset, every class listed SHOULD get to roll. It is a **** of alot easyer for a wis caster to reach 200 or 250 wis but for a halfling rogue it is a bit harder to reach 200+ str and high ac, but this has both and on a back slot at that. The only think I would rather have for a back slot item for a non ultra uber rogue would be a CoF.
RE: Should any of these classes be given priority?
# Jul 25 2002 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
yes, i'm biased, but I'd give it to a cleric.
A) Clerics can't cast EB, shaman and druid can.
B) yes, 23ac and 10 str is great for melee, but you can get that without the wis in other items, its hard to find a back slot with 10 wis and this much ac (and other useful clerical/priestly stats like str (for heavy armor) and resists), so it's best to give it to a priest class anyway.
C) this shield on a cleric means the cleric lives longer, and when the cleric lives longer that means the rest of the group/raid/etc lives longer, and thats a very good thing. this on a warrior or other melee/hybrids, eh, they can get the same or better ac from other items. On other priests, they don't (or shouldn't be) generate anywhere near the agro that clerics create. to repeat, cleric lives longer = everyone else lives longer.

Nothing against clerics, great class for one so willing to dedicate their entire career sitting, standing, casting, ect, not as fun as nuking and such, (why i love my druid :) but anyhow, I hate, just utterly hate it when cleric say they should get the best loot, be it ac/str/wis/whatever because they can wear it. I personally feel whoever helped kill the darn turtle should get a roll on it if they can use it. One day, (not likely, in fact, no, it wont happen) they may make it where raid level situations can survive without clerics, ha, lol, listen to me now, im delusional :) oh well, im dont ranting about the who gets what BS, gluck to whoever kills the turtle, and pray your guild/group of friends consider everyone.

<Ahem.> There is a class that uses all- AC str and wis. It is called a Paladin (yes, that other class that everyone seems to forget). I like your logic about how the cleric lives longer and such... but the paladin can use all three of these stats (plus the saves). Paladin needs ac to live longer, str for attacking/weight, and wis for those backup-heals. AND paladin's do not get enduring breath, so thats always a big help =)

(btw, cant even think of another back slot item with as much ac/stats as this one, as you say)

just my 2cp..

Classes that can cast EB might also want to keep their mana for more useful spells.

As a RNG/ SHM I can EB, but IMHO that means I'll waste a spell slot for something I'll cast once every 17 minutes IIRC, and requires some reagent.

And before someone just tells me "only memorize it when it starts wearing of", they should go to KK or any underwater area without EB memmed and hope they'll get enough time to sit, med, mem and cast EB before they run out of air...

If the only reason someone claims the shell is because they can't cast EB, then get a Fishbone Earring or a Rebreather, YMMV.

Personally, I'd give this to my primary shaman first but there's a few reasons for that not related to the shield. It's a great item for all of the classes. Give it to the person for whom it's the biggest upgrade and who has contributed the most to you're guild/group over the course of time.

Subject to change with server affiliation. If you are on Rallos and you put this on your back, it can be looted if they kill you. No matter how high your resists are, a few decent PK's grouped can toast you, or you might zone low on hps and get burned down, etc. I can't say I've seen anyone on Rallos wear this except as a shield, although I don't go around inspecting everyone I meet either. I'd never put this in a place where it could be lost to a PK so easily.

Do quests, save your money, raid LOTS for your upgrades, sit in EC and be a tunnel rat, or do what I do and just be a stubborn ***** and get the most out of every item you sell (I.E. Sell for close to the max price, or even higher), don't buy things you don't need and refuse to pay more than the low end of an item's value. If you're on giant faction, you can make about 2k/day pharming the coldain heads and selling them to members of the first tier guilds who need giant faction very bad yet don't have time to gain the faction themselves.

This item should be rolled on by all classes that can use it .. it has high AC/str for a cloak (that covers PAL WAR BARD SHD RNG *with added bonus for paladins and rangers (wis)* 10 wis and 23 ac covers druid/shaman/cleric

And the resists, 5 cha and enduring breath is good for all classes .. i personnaly wouldnt use it as a shield .. but i can see it would be good there sometimes ... and to the "no-one cares abotu druids" BS i have a 53 druid on BB...

anyway grats to anyone who gets the shield .. and */rude gesture* to anyone who leaves a class listed there out of the roll

# Jun 09 2001 at 10:37 PM Rating: Default
Ahh.. the Lodi shield.. this thing should be NO DROP, but I'll let that slide. First of all, to the person that says only Druids need this item - greedy druids, like anyone cares about Druids after level 50 anyway (anyone who disagrees is not level 50, etc.).. to the person who says only Clerics need this item - have you ever played a Shaman? Shaman slow spells are CRITICAL to high level battles, and must be cast immediately, not like Cleric spells which can be cast before and after battle actually begins. But, also, to the person who says only priest classes need this item - look at the stats. The most prominent are AC and WIS.. AC is essential to almost every class, especially tanks. WIS is used by Cleric, Shaman, Druid, Ranger, and Paladin. True, Ranger and Paladin don't need WIS as much, but they are mor elikely to be hit, thus need more AC.. you also have to consider the resists, saves are essential to absolutely every class in the game. In summary -

If they help kill it, give them a chance to roll. The only exceptions would be people who cannot use the item (insert duh here, sure they can sell it, but I will personally kill anyone who sells a Lodi), and certain classes should be exempt if an item is obviously for a certain class type (example, an item with high INT and few other stats should not be rolled on by anyone but INT casters). Just trying to clean up the uninformed newbie muck..

Don't knock druids, life sucks without them. Just ask any all-dark guild on a pvp server, trying finding a freakin' wizard to port you :P Or evac you when he dies after 5 hits and can't cast through anything. No group chloro, DS, or wolfform, (for PoH, PoG, PoF raids). Sure a shammy is better, but you only need one, and a Lodi ain't gonna make or break him. if he flops over dead there's always another one to slow the mob, really all excess shammys are is backup healers and buffers, just like druids. You want PotG cuz it stacks with C2, too bad :P Get a bard for every group. Let your clerics run around casting tiny heals on chanters and CHs on tanks at the same time, and then heal themselves cuz they have too much aggro. ****...let's solve that by having pallies step back from melee and heal the chanters :P But then again, since the cleric has a Lodi he won't need any healing, all that extra ac will save him :) Bottom line is, druids are useful, just like every other class, except ranger, who aren't useful unless that's all you can find or really really need to track a mob from a long distance away. If something drops and it's reasonable to assume that person would wear the item and it would be useful for them, then let them roll. A +wis item isn't gonna make your raid go smother cuz you gave that cleric auto-loot status for it. Don't listen to people who enjoy class-labeling for items, that's only appropriate for melee items the vast majority of the time. And no...necros don't get the mana robe...sorry :P

I hope I am around next time you ask one of those usless druids for a port, or next time your group needs an evac. I f I am grouped with you maybe I should just not evac you when needed because you obviously dont need it. Nor should I heal you when you have an add and the cle is oom. Before you post bashing a class use your head, every class is important in the 50+ game. If you havn't relized that yet they you must be an ebay player and need to learn a few things.

Yup, every single person 50+ hates having druids around.

No one really likes to have a backup healer watching casters and primary healers

and everyone just hates having a good evacer

yup, once you get to 50+ might as well delete your druid.

Intelligent post except for that bit.

Guess what class?

Ummm, I gotta admit, I have been annoyed by druids ALOT! BUT I have nothing against them, but on the topic of this sheild, it SHOULD go to a cleric/druid/shammy, as they are going to be healing, and thus, attracting AGGRO, and cant take hits as well. Now, some druids can realy annoy me, as I said, but others are great, and have saved me COUNTLESS times

shield and back
# Jun 07 2001 at 2:08 PM Rating: Default
To the person who wrote that there are no other shields that can be worn on the back also, look up the Aegis of Life quest from Qeynos. Decent ac and wis (cle and paly only). Only problem is the spawn for the quest is a pain in the ****.

There is another shield for the back, the newbie Delf quest, Dark Shield of Ebon from the rogue guild.

and there are a few others...
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 04 2001 at 2:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I got one of these and sold it for 40K, then sold the plat on ebay for around $700.00 I like the shield but really the stats don't make all that much difference maybe one more big hit or maybe a couple resisted spells? I might die a couple more times without it but ill pay a couple hundred pp for rezes and keep my $700. thank you. By the way my roomate started playing this game when it first came out and has made close to $60,000.00 selling on Ebay, is this game worth that much to anyone? sad if it is. But I digress, this shield rocks!!!
#Anonymous, Posted: May 25 2001 at 8:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) All of u are freaks a 35 druid on Xegony and i would love to have this item...theres no other shield in the game that can go on your back and/or use as a shield and has +10 wis, 23 AC as well as nice resists. Oh and this item is very well worth 100k platinum (or more, never really priced it in GFay)...because its rarity and GREAT stats. Any one who says this item sucks should get B*ch'd slapped!
#Anonymous, Posted: May 25 2001 at 8:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) oh...when i said freaks, i meant all of u ppl who are whining!
spawn time
# May 22 2001 at 10:10 AM Rating: Default
Lozidal spawns once every 7 days, like naggy. i also heard you could take him down with one 55+ group, so he's not too tough
RE: spawn time
# May 23 2001 at 10:41 AM Rating: Default
you're wrong, hes random, ive seen him 2 times within one day with no patches and ive also seen him not spawn for days

spawn time for lodiis 18-20 hours and he doesnt always pop... just find out when he died last and keep checking back every 18 hours its that simple

Lodi ALWAYS Spawns 11-13 Hours after his last death. 9 times out of 10 its EXACTLY 12 hours. He NEVER skips a spawn. I have killed Lodi 20+ times easily. He is quite easy with atleast a MT, Cleric and Slower. For a level 60 mob he doesnt hit hard at all.

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 28 2001 at 6:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just got one of these awesome items! The agility -5 really sux but compared to all of the other stats "upping" the shield the negative AGI really doesn't make dent, considering all the other ups - BOOYAH GRANDMA! This is a kik-*** shield
You on crack, Hoodiehoo?
# Apr 28 2001 at 7:33 AM Rating: Default
A 23 AC backslot item, +10 Str, +20svF/C, +10svM and a perma effect of Enduring Breath...

That really sucks, eh?

#hoodiehoo, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 9:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) -5 agility? this thing sucks

# May 10 2001 at 7:01 AM Rating: Default
At this lvl you will always walk around with buffs so minus 5 to agi is no really biggy.
And the shield is a "decent" (LOL) backslot.
#Rewbix, Posted: May 09 2001 at 9:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) OMG are you an idiot? This shield kicks MAJOR *** and anyone who would pass it up because of neg 5 AGI should have there head examined. Just get something that pumps AGI to balance it out and all is good. PLUS at the lvl you need to get it you could have SO many AGI pumping (and other stat pumping) items that it doesnt matter

#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 19 2001 at 5:06 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) so what i see is that you get a permanent enduring breath? well i hope verant realizes how taht can be abused. i would pay like 200 pp or more for a perma enduring breath. you could just auction *selling perma enduring breath* then let the person use it till the effect kicks in then have them give it back!

P.S. This weapon really helps if u have the warriors epic quest. It can go on back so i can have my epic out and wear the shield this is a cool shield.

Prices : Where to find them
# Mar 28 2001 at 1:02 PM Rating: Default
If you didn't know, the prices on this site are pretty much cr@p, but this is prolly priced at 27 million pp b/c very few people would ever sell one. Those groups high enough to kill Lodizal will have a member to whom this is useful. I mean, ****, all those high levels need the SVs and it IS a Shield/Cloak with Enduring Breath (bye bye Fishbone Earring). To find GOOD price averages, copy this link
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 25 2001 at 4:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Shut up. 27 million platinum? I wouldn't spend 2 million pp on an item with 3 times these stats. You, sir, are a grade A jackass.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 18 2001 at 2:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you dummies, this shield will rarely be sold anyway.. and if you want a price go to eqprices

?? you can have well over 43,000 pp.. it would take one forever to obtain it.. but it can be done. I think the shield is worth the price. If one thinks about it. The rarity of the spawn and possibly the rare amount of the drop etc etc.. Plus the great stats this thing gives..doubtful one could ever sell it anyway, like was said before who really has that kind of cash floating around in the bank. I guess if a pc was willing to just go after the most valuable gems/items and sell them off for a good price then maybe after a year or more they could get it.. but by then you could own your own anyway.

INSANE!! Nothing if worth THAT much. Someone musta been ******** around with the pricing. Besides, if something would be woth so much, it would have to be an epic quest item of some sort.
