Stacking issues for Druids
# Feb 15 2002 at 4:19 PM Rating: Default

I don't know if this has been mentioned earlier in this thread because I can only read so much drivel before my eyes start ot glaze over... anyway..

The YaulpII effct does not stack with the druid self only AC/damage shield line. You must click off that buff for the masks effect to stick.

Not that we will be doing too much meleeing, but it's an excellent mask due to the good AC and high wisdom with a fun little proc to boot.

Just a heads up.

Does this mask's effect stack with Turtle Skin and Major Shielding? Would be great for my SK if it did =) Thanks

Actually it does Stack with major shielding

Blood Ember BP - procs Major shielding
Mask of War - Yaulp II

Have both, use both, Just wish cast time was a lil faster (not same as actual spell...spell is 0.5 sec cast...mask is 2.0 sec cast.)I might just toss this over to my monk since he can benefit from it more.. but still fun to watch pallys wonder how a SK is Yaulpin... =o)p
F.Y.I. Drops in the arena area in Kael

Those are AC buffs and Yaulp is an ATK buff. There is no reason they shouldn't 'stack' because they are unrelated.

# Mar 30 2002 at 2:07 PM Rating: Decent
Oops, is my face red...Yaulp does have an AC buff componant :) My apologies for the bad info. However, I still see no reason the two shouldn't stack. The mask is droppable, so it should be possible to experiment.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 29 2002 at 2:25 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is a great monk mask,, has good ac and stats, and is light,, they cast time is not 3 seconds, i have one on my monk, the cast time is like 1 second, and is a great item for monks, for soloing or grouping, its an AC and str buff, so when the puller calls inc soon as he come into sight, cast it and by the time the mobs gets there it will have went off, its only 1 second, and lasts for about 20 secons, good for soloing as well cause of the ac bonus , just stop like 10 feet before the mob, cast , then agro mob, and there you have it ,, the way to use the mask, its not worth 20k, they going for like 6k on tarewmarr, which is a fairly good price for stats/click,, and this item starts clicking at 35 if anyon is wondering.
NGB (need before greed) bullshit
# Jan 10 2002 at 3:33 PM Rating: Default
Just thought I would drop a note here, since the thread seems to have turned into a NBG thread... All I gotta say is, we all have needs, they may not be obvious to someone who is stomping around, acting like a child, screaming need before greed.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 22 2002 at 1:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmmm, need before greed sounds the most fair way to distribute items at a raid. How would you like it if you had a Druid, and on a Trakanon raid, the ES BP dropped and EVERYONE was allowed to roll on it? That's just a bit unfair, don't you think? That's Greed before Need.
If the effect of this is the same as a Paladins Yaulp 2
# Dec 08 2001 at 7:57 PM Rating: Default
Might as well forget about the effect since it lasts for 20seconds or so, usually i cast it 2 times per battle then mob is dead... but thats the much quicker paladin yaulp with cast time of .5secs (that right?), seems that fast. But with cast time of 3 secs.. geeze. You couldve put so much hits in while it was casting.

I would have to say this item is Uber
- currently level 48

Generally speaking items with spell effects take much longer to cast than the spell itself.

Drones of Doom for example on ES vambs takes 8 seconds or on rowyls bracers 7.5 seconds compared to the actual cast time of 4.5 seconds. 3 seconds does seem a long time but I would be very surprised if its the same as the real spell.
RE: Instant Cast
# Jan 28 2003 at 9:43 PM Rating: Default
Yes, usually a clicky buff has longer cast times than the actual spell. The only problem with that logic on this item is it is a spell that is only useful IN battle. With a cast time even 2 seconds it will be difficult to cast while you are getting beat on. Guess it isn't so great for Tanks after all /sigh

What a crock of horse vomit this is. First let me preface this note by saying almost 80% (eighty percent is alot) of drops in the game are for MELE and they go to MELE. Lemme vent here, the very fact that there is a designated zone called EC ,which is a place to facilitate trade between players, by trading we are going back on the honor which is the foundation of NBG.

When i hunt i risk my *** the same as the next guy, rogue, cleric, drood, sham, warrior, etc and we all deserve a *chance to roll* on whatever drops. If i go to DN and fight Phase Spiders, the only thing i'm in it for is a Phase Spider Carapace because thats about all they drop hehe. If one drops everyone should get a chance to roll. I've seen a cleric with all the purple gear, don't recall the name of it, and he won the PSC. Guess who i saw auctioning in EC the next day... yup he was at it again.. upgrading. We all have to do it and there is no reason for me or any other player to forfeit their right to a chance to roll on loot.

I'm a merchant and 55 wiz who are all for having fun with friends and guild members... even though i'm not in a guild atm. I say if i'm with those i care about and something drops that i don't want and they can use then by all means take it and be merry. On the other hand i think we are abusing the good natured people who heal you and zap a mob till it has a heart attack and dies, the ones who buff you till you're about to explode and keep you that way until the mission is accomplished.

I hope we all start giving a little more and stop being so damn selfish. As a disgruntled individual who was upset i asked for a donation from before i ported. He complained and it ended up in /ooc, at which point a third party said " its not selfish for Omma to ask for a donation, its selfish of you for expecting a free port and not coming prepared to pay." How true it is that we take others for granted and try to get as much as we can without asking if anyone else wants some. NBG is selfish, no doubt about it. And the facts are in, Mele are the ones in EC selling all that UBER gear. Yea there are some droods selling and a few casters trying to upgrade also, but its all second hand me downs from the mele who win it in the first place, all happening due to the common and simple understanding that you NEED it more than i do. Lets call a spade a spade and quit pretending. NBG is disgusting and selfish, it needs to die... like those RATS in DN. I hate those things.

I wont pay one red cent for mana that regens. =) Thank God & Verant for the nexus. Greedy as bastads. I don't charge people for SoW when they ask...if I did they would prolly look at me and gasp, but it's considered ok for a druid to ask for money for a port!? Fugk dat.
RE: NBG
# Aug 14 2002 at 3:54 PM Rating: Decent
Being a ranger myself I can't even begin to comprehend how you came up with this comparison. Casting a SoW takes minimal mana and casting time. It's not even in the same ball park as a port when it comes to sacrificing your own personal playing time to group with someone, zone twice, and then have to sit and med back a few hundred mana. I for one appreciate the druids who take time out to port me and save me valuable playing time at the expense of their own. So, I don't feel obligated to donate, I choose to give whatever is within my means as a token of gratitude for taking time out of their schedule for me. Not to mention the obvious fact that if the port saves you 20 minutes of running through zones, that's 20 more minutes you have to kill a few mobs and get your 20pp or whatever you donated back, not to mention some exp.
RE: NBG
# May 28 2002 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
Not charging for a SoW or port is being generous. Expecting others to be generous is being self-centered. If someone is nice enough to port you for free, then great! But if you really EXPECT them to spend time and mana (which, in the end, is more of their own time) just so you don't have to run somewhere, you are being incredibly self-centered.

He's not being selfish you ***, he's being like most of the people in this game are inclucing me. If you are in a guild raid or a guild group then it is definitely NBG. On the other hand, if it's a pickup group with people you don't know or even people that you play with infrequently then it's FFA all the way unless you agree beforehand that it's NBG. There are a lot of high lvl zones that drop only items or mostly items that are more suited to a certain class or type like melee and if that class is warriors for instance then it would require the services of a cleric to heal your *** and a shammy or druid to buff your *** and chanter to mez all the adds you pick up along your way back to camp would it not. And if you get in trouble would you like to die there or have a wizzy or druid evac your out? NBG is not for every situation. I would never join a pickup group based just on NBG and if anyone did they would be an idiot, especially in zones that didn't drop anything they could use. What am i supposed to go to a zone and heal a tank and watch him get all the stuff he needs while i sit there and get a little experience and nothing else? PLEASE! I am not greedy, i just want a shot at the loot like everyone else. I think everyone should have a shot at it no matter what it is ( in a pickup group ).

1'st of all if you are in a pick-up group, or an open raid(and the item wasnt reserved from the begining) then i agree whole heartedly, assuming of course you can equip said item. But if you are hunting with your guild and insist on rolling on an item you A: cant equip, or B: cant use(ie: have better) then that is the highest form of selfishness. For instance if i was hunting in DN with the guild and a PSC were to drop. That item should go to any mele there who doesnt have better. If in the same situation and a guild wizzy or druid started whining cause they wanted a roll, there would be a serious tounge lashing coming from this girl.
Yes you may have buffed or nuked to 0 mana, but without that mele up there taking the wack's you would'nt even have the chance to see said item drop. And if it makes the guild as a whole stronger, then thats less mana you gotta burn on those mobs later on who will drop the caster gear.
Now on that same note it is my feeling that any item, no matter how uber, that was obtained with your guild, when upgraded should be passed down to another loyal guildie and so on and so forth.
And before you flame i have a druid who is higher then my monk, so i am not coming from a pure mele perspective.
RE: NBG
# Nov 18 2001 at 1:39 PM Rating: Decent
There are less caster drops simply cause CASTERS NEED ITEMS ABOUT 70% LESS THAN MELEE DOES.
You guys can gate, bind, invis, port and all that. What does the warrior get? A lot of hp which vanish in thin air whenever he is alone and get's attacked by 1 blue mob.

RE: NBG
# Feb 13 2002 at 11:38 AM Rating: Default
You may have a good point about items only being lootable by the class who can use them, but that hardly applies to the item in this thread, which is all/all. With items like these, a group needs to be aware how many other masks are available to other classes, and whether this is a suitable upgrade for them. For instance, I was on a guild raid (am a cleric) and this dropped, and a battle promptly insued over which class could best use this. So I am currently in the process of researching this item and finding which class can best use it.
For example, if warriors have about 15 other masks out there that have higher AC, then they shouldn't be allowed to roll on this simply because at the current time it is an upgrade for them. It may be at that point, but if higher AC masks are readily available, then you need to give this to another class whose choices are more limited, and who will use it longer. I am willing to bet that rangers and pallies have alot fewer high AC masks to choose from, so I would say that it would go to them. As a cleric, this would be a rocking upgrade to my polished mithril mask, BUT if we are going strictly my wis and mana, there is better stuff out there for me.... and Yaulp II??? LOL I have never used any of the Yaulp line of spells on myself, so that would definitely be a waste for me.
I would say this WOULD NOT go to a monk, simply because it is a waste of alot of wisdom in one spot, which would be better used on a wisdom based caster or hybrid. just my 2 cp
RE: NBG

/agree =)

I am a 52 Ranger looking to get one of these to upgrade from my current Grotesque Alloy mask that I have been wearing forever.

Monk item? Someone needs to learn their class just a little better. I don't know about your monk, but mine is now and always has been OOM. What the hell would I need this mask on a monk for!? Guess next you'll be wanting a swiftblade of Zek huh? O.o
RE: NBG
# May 12 2002 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
I am a lvl 55 monk and would love to have this mask. It's one of the highest AC masks in the game for a monk short of UP or ToV.

Others classes could use this as well, and if a ranger needed it I would likely to defer to him/her. Not sure that I would defer rolling to the pure wis casters though, but I might depending on if they really needed it or not. However, that doesn't mean its not a great item for a monk and if it was a pickup group I would definately roll.

Based on your post, I would say you probably need to learn how to play your monk better! He is most likely a twink, like so many other monk out there or you would not have posted what you just did!

Flame away!

RE: NBG
# Oct 03 2001 at 2:05 PM Rating: Decent
I agree with you, mostly. Just one thing i would add. In a pickup group, non guild party/raid, all roll. However i believe that in guild raids NBG should be used, as most guild high enough to fight here have rules about selling off items obtained on raids and whatnot.

I was camping the LMH in guk back in the day ontime, hopeing to get an yak, when they were considered UBER. Anywho, i lost on the yak when it droped to a nuker, but then the SMR droped in like anohter 10 min and i won that, and the nuker was mad at me even though he rolled on and won the yak. This was like close to 2 years ago.

Anywho sory for the story, if you want like it, dont read it. But, I just wanter to buffer that in non guild pick up groups im 100% for FFA rolling.

Oh and the porting issue, theres a new law out, cant charge for teleports even though it uses YOUR mana and YOUR time. So now all them freeloaders get free rides and theres nothing you can do about it. Oh and also, if your over 50 you have to give 1k to every newbie that beggs from you, or Verrant will suspend your account. This is true.... i swear.... its not sarcasm at all...... really.... it isnt......

All you need is WIS. I see druids quad kiting stuff all day, you'll not get any sympathy from anyone when you have that ability. Maybe some of you should learn how to group, i.e. don't DoT a mob that is about to die, don't overnuke and keep your party buffed.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 19 2001 at 3:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Most druids know how to group, halfwit. Most people who whine about druid's quad-kiting are those that are angry because a druid wouldn't port or buff them.

RE: Bah, Halfwit Morons
# Jun 17 2001 at 3:21 AM Rating: Decent
I'd say he's perfectly justified in saying that druids have it good, and tend to cause quite a few problems while quad kiting. #1. When a druid quad kites, they require alot of room, so that when a group is using traditional fighting tactics then usually get the druids adds, which lead to death. #2. when a druid is oom and is about to die, they tend to train people to get the mobs off them so they can gate or evac. #3. Druids quad kiting in a zone like Cobalt Scar, there are probably 30 wyvern pops in the whole zone, on a 35 minuite timer, so with 5 druids in there quad kiting they clean out the zone in a matter of minuites while the rest of us using traditional fighting tactics get to clean up maybe 1 or 2 a spawn, it's really quite greedy, half the time we have to go and grab one of the extra's trailing behind the druid. Now, add on to that the fact that druids get sow and port, and ALWAYS charge for them, they usually get on my bad side, I'm a 54 cleric and I rez for free, occasionally I'll offer to rez for donations, I never require payment.... There are a few good drujids out there, but in general most of the 13 your olds playing druids give them a bad name cause they don't care for anyone but themselves.

Yes its true we druids can quad kite, but in the end its all we have. no one wants us in group at high lvls, so what can we do? quad kite, but i feel that is boring, i feel bad that you have bad experiances with some of my bretheren, but most of the time the good druids are not shouting "porting to druid rings for 20pp", most of the good druids are in the duengons sitting at the zone shouting "53 druid LFG" for 30 minutes then watch as "49 Cleric LFG" gets a group right away. We are healers too, and nukers, and evacers. but there are the druids that give us all bad names and after 45 minutes of calling for a group im forced to play my twinks... <sigh>
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 13 2002 at 11:46 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Awwww boohoo.... maybe if you spent more time lvls 1-59 in groups and less time quad-kiting, you might have made some friends or got in a guild to find some groupage. I almost always have a druid in my group, but I prefer druids that I know, cause it seems the ones I don't are only interested in the loot, and have no idea what to do in a group because the only spells they ever bothered learning was ensnare and AoE DD spells. If you can't find a group, its more likely because you are incompetent.... a good druid can be as useful as a cleric in a balanced group.

I agree with you Sasamiryoko. NOT all Druids are the same. I never ask for any money for my ports, however yes I will accept a donation from somebody who gives it. I can very often be found in newbie zones, healing and buffing the noobs FOR FREE. Also most good Druids do not need to shout to offer porting services, as ppl will approach them instead (IF you are not anon). I have just made level 30 and cannot wait till I hit 34.

Got this today from a dragon necropolis raid. The quest item dropped off a rat (must have been the courier, i guess), but I was too busy slowing mobs and keeping people alive to notice. First notice I had was them rolling and telling me I had won. I was like, "Great! umm, what did I win?"
Upon hearing it was a quest item for a Kael quest I told em I was sorry, I couldn't accept it since my faction with giants was really bad. They said no problem, the chanter (who has good Kael faction) has already looted it for you and will do the quest for you later. I was like kewl!

When the chanter gave me this mask after the raid, I was like, WOOOOOOOOOOT!!! This thing is the most awesome wis caster mask I have ever seen. It is perfect for a shaman or cleric, even a druid. I was just very lucky to win it. I think paladins and rangers would be second tier to get this, as there are better melee caliber masks out there and their primary responsibility is not casting but melee. Same argument for them to get haste items with wis on them over wis casters (i.e. Silvery Belt of Contention). Although, I do have a haste belt I use at times. It's a Hangman's Noose, hehe, and it's no drop so I won't be selling it.

I don't know about that 2k price posted here, that seems . . . well, absurdly low. This is a raid caliber item, best in its class, and second to none (that I am aware of). You also can not farm it, as the place the quest item drops is EXTREMELY dangerous, filled with level 50-60 rats, many of whom are extremely magic resistant and hit for around 245. It takes a couple groups of very high levels to do this area at minimum. If anyone wants this mask from me, they will have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers. 2k? HAH! I wasted that much on alchemy last night. The only things I might trade this for are a lodizal shield or a fungi tunic.

You moron, just because it has wis doesn't mean its only for wisdom users. See, people flame at people like you who say because it has one stat its good for only them. It has 9 ac, 9 ac on a face slot is pretty damn nice. Unlimited Yaulp II, that's a 20 str 8 ac buff that lasts for 18 seconds, but only takes .5 seconds to cast. You really don't look at the whole item do you? Or else you would know that this pretty much is a 17 raw AC, 22 Str item... And that's pretty damn good for a veil. Oh, and trade for a fungal tunic? Good luck, the sucker is worth 15k tops. And easy as hell to find. Drops of regular giants in Kael as well, you don't have to do the quest.

LOL! You are the moron, not him! You can get 12ac dragonskin mask for 1k. This item has 9 wisdom on it and goes for 20k. Think about it. 9 friggin wisdom. Who can make better use of item? A melee with 1k item or a priest with 20k item... fool.

"This quest begins with Captain Bvellos in Kael Drakken.
If you inform Captain Bvellos that you "will work" he will tell you of his suspicions that Wenglawks is trading information with the Coldain and Dragons. He would like to do something about this but he has no proof and no way of finding any.

The proof can be found on a ratman courier in Dragon Necropolis. Return this proof to Captain Bvellos. He will reward you with a Mask of War for your efforts."

Great thing is its not NO DROP ; )

The quest one is also NOT no drop, same thing in fact.

I think the quest one is either to get basically, if you are doing that necropolis in western wastes anyway.

I been on tons of giant raids never saw this drop in kael = (

Rare i guess
hmm

Like many items in Kael, this can probably be obtained both ways -- by doing the quests, or by killing the quest giver or somebody related to him.

Random Complaint

Just wanted to complain that it took the courts way too long to pick a president. Wait...this is the board to just complain about everything right?
#Anonymous, Posted: Aug 27 2001 at 12:01 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I agree I mean if it wasn't for the fact that they thought they had to speed things up, because the market was dropping they would probably still be debating on who's the president today.
