While the graphic is excellent, MotQ is now inferior to Centi Warspear, the Akheva drop 2HP also useable at 1st level. It is 20 Dam/30 Delay, +5 Str, +5 Sta

IMO the only reason to use Messenger is to give a nod to the old days. Which is sometimes reason enough, especially at low level.

If you clear Centi Dators and other stuff around the halls, you'll get a Centi Shortsword, Warspear and Warhammer in 60-120 kills. Any 70+ can just smash everything, just avoid the Mindworms as they aggro, swarm and interrupt ALOT.

-Bhongit Icepride the Frozen, 84 Barbarian Shaman
-Enrek Winterhawk, 80 Human Shadowknight
-Squidley, 75 Troll Beastlord
-Atrophy Inevitable, 75 Iksar Necromancer
-Stonewind Flamesea the Timeless, 75 Erudite Magician
-Krumbul Everything, 56 OgreBerserker
-Phylk Phunnypharm, 50 Gnome Wizard

If it was 2h slashing it wouldn't be bad for lower levels. But from my experience so far I have found that later on there is alot better 2h slash weapons then 2h peirce. It also can be very difficult to try and get your 2h slash skill up from 0 when your level 50+ and decide you want a war marshalls staff, or something of that nature. If a person is able to get this, more then likely they could find them a 2h slash weapon that is overall better.
another thing to consider

This is a two-handed piercing weapon. I haven't read the whole way through all three pages here, but just thought I'd add that since it means that your Pally can't carry a shield and hence can't use bash. Smiley: eek

It's still a great weapon though. I had one handed to my Pally at level two Smiley: yippee and will probably use it for quite some time except when I want to work on my bash skill level.

ok since when can this be purchased at a vender?
Purchased at Vendor... NOT
# Dec 31 2002 at 12:22 AM Rating: Excellent
Somebody at Illia's just updated the item wrong. They are doing a good job trying to post all the vendors items in all the worlds, but I guess somebody sent in a bad item list parse of Hulda having this item on her. Since this wpn only sells for like 25p in bazaar now-a-days (Seventh Hammer), Its no biggie to see it at vendors around the world. And I guess since Thurg is just a nearby vendor thats why Hulda had one for sale.
Keep in mind that the factions of the coldains in the keep at the bottom of crystal has been fluctuating recently. I think its straightened out now. Also the guy that sold the wpn to Hulda might not have spent enuf time killin the rygorrs to get faction up with the coldain if he was just killin the spiders for silk or loots whatnot. Otherwise, I'd expect to see this and other loots from crystal right on the vendors in there. (FYI, the CCavern coldain vendors are one of my suppliers of velium ore when I dont want to spend the time killin the rygorrs.)

I am level 52 now and have not used this at all for most of 6 levels. It is a wonderful weapon I have a pierce skill of 175 and it is due only to MOQ. It is my belief that you should try to max all your skills. Maxing all of your skills seems to me to make for a more well rounded character and a more fun game.

I used this mostly fighting in groups in High Pass Hold. As long as you have a good group it is a great item to use the damage is excellent for the level and it is a fun weapon. I now have all my other skills maxed.

I now use mostly Strength of Grogan. 41dmgm 51dly, +25str, +10sta nodrop. I am working on my epic but it is a long haul.

Good Luck all
If you see me please say hi!

Good enough reason to raise your piercing skill, Paladins? Indeed.

I used a Messenger for a bit. It's a good weapon, for the level.

A real good reason to work on piercing skill. Grats to the palys that get that weapon.
What do you think about this?
# Feb 07 2002 at 10:59 PM Rating: Decent
Recently, I remembered that a few months ago while swimming through the sand dunes of N. Ro I got a tell from another player asking if I wanted to trade my Berserker's Axe for his MotQ, straight up. I turned him down because the axe was a gift from a friend, but this even stuck in my mind ever since then. Would that have been a good trade or was I wise to pass it up? I solo alot, if that makes a difference ;)

twink item
# Dec 04 2001 at 1:49 AM Rating: Good
hey guys my primary char is a SHD but i was in EC and got a REAL good deal on some flayed skin (tunic and bracer) for 100p and then they offered me this item for 300p (found out later the value) i got riped but i had a most excellent weapon anyway so i started a high elf paly, got a port to tox and ran to paineel and camped brought up my sk and got him back home where he belongs (hehe loves warrens and SB) anyway i twinked my paly with a full set of coldiron minus the helm (gave him the crown instead) i less then 3 days my paly is lvl 13 the ratio on the weapon is .05 he almost always does hid dmg cap i would not sell this weapon for 500p i love it and plan on keeping it the only bad thing about have piecing as my weapon skill is my next best piercer comes at lvl 40 and this weapon will only last me till lvl 30
moral of this little story this item is best for twinks where you can start out using piercing .

A ratio of .05? This item has a ratio of 2. A ratio of .05 would be 100/5

The damage bonus on this is 1. I have one, that is how I know.
RE: Damage Bonus
# Dec 07 2001 at 11:38 PM Rating: Good
I am not sure if anyone has told you yet - the damage bonus is dependant on level - so as you level your damage bonus goes up...

Something to look forward to. =)
RE: Damage Bonus
# Apr 02 2002 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
Yep. Damage Bonus goes up as you level. What is curious, though is that a 40th lvl pally would have a DB of 1 with this thing. /shrug
Just some pally advise
# Sep 14 2001 at 1:43 PM Rating: Default
I Definatly agree with whoever said work on 2h slash weapons. Most of the time this weapon is given out. I found out the hard way that this is not a great skill to practice. Yes , peiceing does have some nice pally weapons, but there is a gap in lvl's. This is obtainable by a lvl 1, i see many given away on druzzil ro. But the next good pierceer is not avalible untill mid 40's or so and this is only good untill 30 for a newbie. If u are buying this weapon.. save a few hundred more pp and buy a BOX. much better weapon and lets u practice the skill that is the pally's epic and other good weapons.

A good adventure and lesson, so bear with me...

Upon seeing that pallys get the best piercing weapons in the game, I decided that I should work on this skill as soon as possible. But I was dismayed to find out that almost all piercing weapons available to pallys come from Kunark or Velious, putting them beyond the reach of non-twinks until lvl 25 or so. Yet I am determined to be the best pally I can be.

So at lvl 3 I went from Freeport to Fironia Vie in search of the worst (and hopefully, inexepensive) goblin eye poker (dmg 3, dly 18 -- good for newbie). Thought there might be one at a merchant, but then realized when I got there that the higher-ups probably left those to rot rather than take up loot space. But I did not give up.

Stayed there for four Earth days, logging on periodically to auction for a goblin eye poker. Got some smart responses, and some puzzled queries as to what a lvl 3 was doing on Kunark (as though I had no right to wander into 'their' town). But I persisted.

Struck up a conversation with a dwarf pally, Ernum (I think -- I forget names easily) from the Elite Clan on M. Marr server. He understoood my dilemma, and as I was about to give up and go home, he said he would give me his Messenger of the Queen. I gushed, and even tried to dissuade him from such a move (albeit half-heartedly), but he insisted. I thanked him profusely, and when I mentioned that I purchased a tailored quiver while wandering around there, he made me a carved elm bow and gave me 80 hooked/bone arrows to boot!

The moral of the story is that initiative pays off, as does humility and respect for others. Be gracious in accepting gifts, and conduct yourself with honor and dignity rather than begging at the local bank and people will show you more consideration. I can't even remeber how many times I have given passed on nice newbie items only to have the player turn around and ask for more without saying thank you. Just because you are classified as a 'newbie' does not mean you have to act like one.

Oh, the weapon is amazing. Will use it until I get something better, and then I will pass it on to another pally newbie who knows how to play well with others.
the wurmy of piercing
# Aug 08 2001 at 8:24 AM Rating: Default
This would be as popular as the wurm slayer if not for piercing skill. MAn if this could only be a 1 hand slash then it would be worth 5k
RE: the wurmy of piercing
# Jan 13 2002 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent
heh heh it wouldnt sell for 5k (as of luclin or even before) because its class specific meening you will only have pallies to sell to which lowers the value on almost anything and comparison of this to a wurmslayer is a bit ubsurd 20 40 5 str 5 wis 5 vs magic 2h VS 25 40 5 ac 5 str and 5 vs magic and is 1h yes stats are a lil alike but this things price will never be over the price on a wurmslayer

Actually Wurmys usta be piercing and they went for more back then. then again it was about as uba as it got
Practicing Pierce
# Aug 03 2001 at 9:33 AM Rating: Decent
For all you hundreds of Erudite paladins out there - starting about level 15 you can practice with this weapon on the sharks in Erudin harbor to improve your skill. (You can start as early as 9th but you will not get many hits in).

Go stand on the ledge in the water (you will be half in and half out of the water and will NOT be swimming or holding your breath) and fight the sharks. When you are almost dead move up onto the land, heal yourself (via spell, lay hand, or just resting) then wade back into the water.

Lather - Rinse - Repeat. It will take a while but there is NO chance of you dying.
price
# Jul 28 2001 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
These go for 200-400pp(but usually closer to 200) on the morrel thule server...eh, id buy it as an excuse to learn piercing.

and the picture's not accurate by the way. it says that it is a 2handed piercing weap on the one I have.
2hp vs piercing
# Jun 23 2001 at 3:44 AM Rating: Decent
Are 2 hand piercing and "Piercing" the same skill? why list 2hp on the weapon at all, if it's just a piercer. And if someone wants to say "it's the same thing", then why doesn't my 1handed slash go up when I use my 2handed sword?

Can someone point me towards some concrete info from the powers that be? after spamming this question in the General Chat, (1 gm and 4 guides), one of the guides stated "I think it's the same thing, but I'm not sure"

I'd lay some points into piercing, but have been spending them in tradeskills (stupid me)

Same skill, it just means you can't hold a shield while using it. That's the entire difference.

I got mine at lvl 8. I love it. At first I did worry about not having a shield but that soon passed.

# Jun 09 2001 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
The 500pp price is squewed from when this sold for 4k when it first came out. It is two handed and the stats are just ok for a 2-hander, and who has time to work on 2HP skill? There are probably 10 of these around for every paladin and most have better weapons. I have seen this offered for 50p. Once you can offord to buy this even for 100pp or so the only way you can kill skill raising blues is in a group, and you are not doing them any favors doing that.
i have heard
# Jun 06 2001 at 8:32 AM Rating: Default
i ahve heard that this cna sell for 200 to 3kpp is something wrong? its drops off a lvl 40 that acts like a lvl 38. its not the only drop but someone got it 3 times in one day dont know how. hes gave them to his friends for safe keeping.
plz post if u know the price that the moq is selling for now.

This is a paladin only weapon. Paladins cannot dual wield. So to answer your question, no.

Piercing Weapon
# May 29 2001 at 2:59 PM Rating: Decent
I bought one for my pally for 200pp on the Solusek Ro server... kinda sad that most pallys don't use piercing weapons as much, I hope to get one of those Velium War Lance someday tho (love the look and stats).
My 2 c.p.
# May 26 2001 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
I bought this for 300 p.p. ( my life savings)almost 2 months ago. I was lvl 22 with 1 point in piercing. My main weapon was Ebon razor, but I used this when ever I could. I was ABOUT to max out the skill for the FIRST time when I dinged 35.
I did not want to waste time w/o exp, so I dumped about 20 practice points in it and kept on fighting, it took this long. Not the best weapon to get piercing up, but what the hey... It is a very nice weapon. It's a little slow, but when I got to OverThere, it often was the only thing I had on me that would do any real damage. So now, 1 yellow into 35, my piercing is up to 172. Maby It's just me, but it seems to do better on big stuff like Rihnos and Giants. Still waiting on the patch to grey out the button. Good Hunting.
