While the graphic is excellent, MotQ is now inferior to Centi Warspear, the Akheva drop 2HP also useable at 1st level. It is 20 Dam/30 Delay, +5 Str, +5 Sta

IMO the only reason to use Messenger is to give a nod to the old days. Which is sometimes reason enough, especially at low level.

If you clear Centi Dators and other stuff around the halls, you'll get a Centi Shortsword, Warspear and Warhammer in 60-120 kills. Any 70+ can just smash everything, just avoid the Mindworms as they aggro, swarm and interrupt ALOT.

If it was 2h slashing it wouldn't be bad for lower levels. But from my experience so far I have found that later on there is alot better 2h slash weapons then 2h peirce. It also can be very difficult to try and get your 2h slash skill up from 0 when your level 50+ and decide you want a war marshalls staff, or something of that nature. If a person is able to get this, more then likely they could find them a 2h slash weapon that is overall better.
another thing to consider

This is a two-handed piercing weapon. I haven't read the whole way through all three pages here, but just thought I'd add that since it means that your Pally can't carry a shield and hence can't use bash. Smiley: eek

It's still a great weapon though. I had one handed to my Pally at level two Smiley: yippee and will probably use it for quite some time except when I want to work on my bash skill level.

Purchased at Vendor... NOT
# Dec 31 2002 at 12:22 AM Rating: Excellent
Somebody at Illia's just updated the item wrong. They are doing a good job trying to post all the vendors items in all the worlds, but I guess somebody sent in a bad item list parse of Hulda having this item on her. Since this wpn only sells for like 25p in bazaar now-a-days (Seventh Hammer), Its no biggie to see it at vendors around the world. And I guess since Thurg is just a nearby vendor thats why Hulda had one for sale.
Keep in mind that the factions of the coldains in the keep at the bottom of crystal has been fluctuating recently. I think its straightened out now. Also the guy that sold the wpn to Hulda might not have spent enuf time killin the rygorrs to get faction up with the coldain if he was just killin the spiders for silk or loots whatnot. Otherwise, I'd expect to see this and other loots from crystal right on the vendors in there. (FYI, the CCavern coldain vendors are one of my suppliers of velium ore when I dont want to spend the time killin the rygorrs.)

I am level 52 now and have not used this at all for most of 6 levels. It is a wonderful weapon I have a pierce skill of 175 and it is due only to MOQ. It is my belief that you should try to max all your skills. Maxing all of your skills seems to me to make for a more well rounded character and a more fun game.

I used this mostly fighting in groups in High Pass Hold. As long as you have a good group it is a great item to use the damage is excellent for the level and it is a fun weapon. I now have all my other skills maxed.

I now use mostly Strength of Grogan. 41dmgm 51dly, +25str, +10sta nodrop. I am working on my epic but it is a long haul.

Good Luck all

Good enough reason to raise your piercing skill, Paladins? Indeed.

I used a Messenger for a bit. It's a good weapon, for the level.

A real good reason to work on piercing skill. Grats to the palys that get that weapon.

Recently, I remembered that a few months ago while swimming through the sand dunes of N. Ro I got a tell from another player asking if I wanted to trade my Berserker's Axe for his MotQ, straight up. I turned him down because the axe was a gift from a friend, but this even stuck in my mind ever since then. Would that have been a good trade or was I wise to pass it up? I solo alot, if that makes a difference ;)

hey guys my primary char is a SHD but i was in EC and got a REAL good deal on some flayed skin (tunic and bracer) for 100p and then they offered me this item for 300p (found out later the value) i got riped but i had a most excellent weapon anyway so i started a high elf paly, got a port to tox and ran to paineel and camped brought up my sk and got him back home where he belongs (hehe loves warrens and SB) anyway i twinked my paly with a full set of coldiron minus the helm (gave him the crown instead) i less then 3 days my paly is lvl 13 the ratio on the weapon is .05 he almost always does hid dmg cap i would not sell this weapon for 500p i love it and plan on keeping it the only bad thing about have piecing as my weapon skill is my next best piercer comes at lvl 40 and this weapon will only last me till lvl 30
moral of this little story this item is best for twinks where you can start out using piercing .

I Definatly agree with whoever said work on 2h slash weapons. Most of the time this weapon is given out. I found out the hard way that this is not a great skill to practice. Yes , peiceing does have some nice pally weapons, but there is a gap in lvl's. This is obtainable by a lvl 1, i see many given away on druzzil ro. But the next good pierceer is not avalible untill mid 40's or so and this is only good untill 30 for a newbie. If u are buying this weapon.. save a few hundred more pp and buy a BOX. much better weapon and lets u practice the skill that is the pally's epic and other good weapons.

A good adventure and lesson, so bear with me...

Upon seeing that pallys get the best piercing weapons in the game, I decided that I should work on this skill as soon as possible. But I was dismayed to find out that almost all piercing weapons available to pallys come from Kunark or Velious, putting them beyond the reach of non-twinks until lvl 25 or so. Yet I am determined to be the best pally I can be.

So at lvl 3 I went from Freeport to Fironia Vie in search of the worst (and hopefully, inexepensive) goblin eye poker (dmg 3, dly 18 -- good for newbie). Thought there might be one at a merchant, but then realized when I got there that the higher-ups probably left those to rot rather than take up loot space. But I did not give up.

Stayed there for four Earth days, logging on periodically to auction for a goblin eye poker. Got some smart responses, and some puzzled queries as to what a lvl 3 was doing on Kunark (as though I had no right to wander into 'their' town). But I persisted.

Struck up a conversation with a dwarf pally, Ernum (I think -- I forget names easily) from the Elite Clan on M. Marr server. He understoood my dilemma, and as I was about to give up and go home, he said he would give me his Messenger of the Queen. I gushed, and even tried to dissuade him from such a move (albeit half-heartedly), but he insisted. I thanked him profusely, and when I mentioned that I purchased a tailored quiver while wandering around there, he made me a carved elm bow and gave me 80 hooked/bone arrows to boot!

The moral of the story is that initiative pays off, as does humility and respect for others. Be gracious in accepting gifts, and conduct yourself with honor and dignity rather than begging at the local bank and people will show you more consideration. I can't even remeber how many times I have given passed on nice newbie items only to have the player turn around and ask for more without saying thank you. Just because you are classified as a 'newbie' does not mean you have to act like one.

Oh, the weapon is amazing. Will use it until I get something better, and then I will pass it on to another pally newbie who knows how to play well with others.

For all you hundreds of Erudite paladins out there - starting about level 15 you can practice with this weapon on the sharks in Erudin harbor to improve your skill. (You can start as early as 9th but you will not get many hits in).

Go stand on the ledge in the water (you will be half in and half out of the water and will NOT be swimming or holding your breath) and fight the sharks. When you are almost dead move up onto the land, heal yourself (via spell, lay hand, or just resting) then wade back into the water.

Lather - Rinse - Repeat. It will take a while but there is NO chance of you dying.

Are 2 hand piercing and "Piercing" the same skill? why list 2hp on the weapon at all, if it's just a piercer. And if someone wants to say "it's the same thing", then why doesn't my 1handed slash go up when I use my 2handed sword?

Can someone point me towards some concrete info from the powers that be? after spamming this question in the General Chat, (1 gm and 4 guides), one of the guides stated "I think it's the same thing, but I'm not sure"

I'd lay some points into piercing, but have been spending them in tradeskills (stupid me)

The 500pp price is squewed from when this sold for 4k when it first came out. It is two handed and the stats are just ok for a 2-hander, and who has time to work on 2HP skill? There are probably 10 of these around for every paladin and most have better weapons. I have seen this offered for 50p. Once you can offord to buy this even for 100pp or so the only way you can kill skill raising blues is in a group, and you are not doing them any favors doing that.

I bought this for 300 p.p. ( my life savings)almost 2 months ago. I was lvl 22 with 1 point in piercing. My main weapon was Ebon razor, but I used this when ever I could. I was ABOUT to max out the skill for the FIRST time when I dinged 35.
I did not want to waste time w/o exp, so I dumped about 20 practice points in it and kept on fighting, it took this long. Not the best weapon to get piercing up, but what the hey... It is a very nice weapon. It's a little slow, but when I got to OverThere, it often was the only thing I had on me that would do any real damage. So now, 1 yellow into 35, my piercing is up to 172. Maby It's just me, but it seems to do better on big stuff like Rihnos and Giants. Still waiting on the patch to grey out the button. Good Hunting.

Price for MotQ
# May 13 2001 at 10:54 PM Rating: Default
I bought an MotQ recently for 200pp at lvl 14. From the postings here and the recommended average it's difficult to tell whether I got a good price or not. The postings suggest the range is from 400 - 600pp but out in the real world most people sell it for between 250 - 350pp. I'm just wondering because, being only lvl 14, it comprised my entire life savings and I want to check I got a decent price for it since I had to forego upgrading some of my armour to bronze. In any case, I'm quite happy with it given that I'll have the time to practise 2hp. Used to have a Finely Crafted Shan'Tok with maxed out skill in 1hs that hit regularly for 18hps; MotQ misses and does 1hps damage frequently but as my skill increases it occasionally does 29hps damage. In a group that doesn't mind you practising it's ace, and you can always use your spells and tank-ability to supplement. In any case, I know I'll really appreciate it at later lvls.

PS Since this is my first and only character, I took the advice of higher lvl Pallies about keeping skills on an even keel till you can specialise at higher lvls and I'm keeping the Shan'Tok and a Sarnak Ceremonial Sword to practise 1hs and 2hs.

Weapon Skills
# Apr 28 2001 at 3:12 AM Rating: Default
Id like to throw in my 2cp. Im not sure what weapon skills are based on, but Im pretty sure it is Int. My room mate, who plays an SK, got a MoSS at level 45. His skill in 1hb was 5 at the time. All he did was fight the bards in Innothule and Feerrott and he had his skill up to about 60-70 in no time. My advice is find a critter on the same level as the bards (if you don't want the bard faction hit) and just keep killing them. Yes it was boring for him, but it only took about 8 RL hours to get his skill up to do decent damage to a MOB. BTW he also kept a reserve weapon that he was proficient in to do damage while in a group.

My story so far with the MotQ. Im a level 22 pally. I got this baby yesterday by trading the Plat ring from befallen for it. I think theoretically the ring might be worth more but I had been auctioning it for 3 days with no takers and also most times there was someone else auctioning the same item and I was tired of being a merchant. Anyway, of course I suck at 2HP since I have never pierced at all. I put about 10 practices into piercing and used it about a half hour this AM in a Goblin group in Highpass Keep and only got one message "you have improved at piercing (12)". I have about 20 practice point left but dont really want to use them and really dont want to run back to FP now anyway so I guess Im stuck for now. I think this could be a pretty nice weapon when I get the skill up though so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I might get my skill up a little faster but still avoid getting killed or getting my groupmates killed. Take care,

I'm not a paladin, I am a ranger, however I do like checking out all the other weapons various classes can use. It seems like I may be better informed regarding paladin weapons than some of the people flaming this weapon. In case you don't know several of the nicest paladin weapons are 2HS so you have to give up your shield. Weapons like Fiery Defender, Soulfire, and Fiery Avenger (thats the pally epic, by the way). If you want to get your piercing up, find a weapon with a lower delay than 40. If you're using a dagger with 20 delay, that's twice as many swings, thus twice as many chances for your skill to increase. Sure, you might not do much dmg for a while, but if you're in a group with friends, just tell them you want to work on pierce for a while. I'm sure they won't mind.

Im sure you know this but for all of you that dont: YOUR WEAPON SKILL WILL NOT INCREASE IF YOU ARE FIGHTING ENEMIES THAT CON GREEN TO YOU. Dont waste your time. Personally i use this weapon in a group and since It's not my job to dish out the damage, it's perfect to practice like this. As long as you are the group damage sponge, you dont have to worry about doing alot of damage. Leave that to the casters & monks.

Oh, and don't use the messenger to practice with, try and find a very fast low damage weapon to do that, you don't wanna kill the critter, and the faster you swing, the faster your skill can increase

This is going to be highly difficult to do, since the paladin skill is limited to ONLY 2 hand piercing, and I don't think there are many of them out there. Are there?

The pally skill is NOT limited to only 2hand piercing. I put 15 practice points into piercing and armed myself with the Harpoon of the depths and shield (for bashing of course) and hit the Sarnak fort of Ill Omen. My piercing skill went from 16 to 80+ in a weekend. Now with a Quickness buff, I can effectively rid the land of all baddies with my MotQ

At level 40 I started practicing my piercing skill as a Paladin. I got it up to 40, killing walrus/ulthork/rhino in EW. Then I pumped 40 training pts into it to speed the process up. Moves pretty quickly if you have a fast weapon and/or an enchanter's haste buffs. I personally would NEVER try and learn piercing with a MoQ, cuz it's too slow. When you aren't swingin you aren't improvin...

Oh BTW, my piercing is already 120 and I'm still 40th.

Wont fit in backpack?

I had one of these, had just bought it. I showed it to a friend in a trade window, cancelled & it fell to the ground despite me having spare backpack slots. I had no general inv slots free.

Needless to say EC crashed & I lost it for good as the GM says I dropped it.

The lvl to obtain this thing is WAAAY off. You do NOT have to be 50 to get this... I got it in my group at 35.. and the avg lvl of the group was 38... not many non twinks have a wurmslayer by then.... it's pretty good for it's level... I like the angry mob look

ive been reading a few of these posts. wow its just a game, you're agruing so much and i bet that if you were talking face to face, someone would be unconscious on the floor right now. i got this weapon because it was unique. i spent all the past 5 levels (18-23) raising my piercing skill and now its maxed out. its worth it. i wouldnt trade it for a 2hs weapon with the exact same stats. its an accomplishment that you can be proud of. every time i join a group with people i dont know, the first thing i hear is "hey what weapon is that!?" i like to show it off. give me a break. calm down its just an item. not worth arguing about

Paladins are not necessarily limited to using "2H" piercing weapons. I personally have and
am using to train up my skill a crystal grinder, which is most definitely a 1-handed weapon.
2 handed piercing.
# Mar 18 2001 at 9:31 PM Rating: Default
Yes paladins get 2hp. I got this weapon today at lvl 27, since Verant managed to lose my other weapon. AS for the MoQ, it rocks, decent dmg dly ratio. Ok stat bonuses adn it weighs less than a drakkel forged ******* sword, or even a wurmslayer. If i remember correctly. As for the 2hp skill it falls under piercing. The weapon looks awesome, like a mancatcher kinda. Really cool weapon all around. Thanks again Namlinea I owe you one.

This is part of the new 2H Pierce Weapons that Verant introduced with Velious for Paladins. Along the lines of a Lance type weapon. Unfortunately that means any Paladin wanting to use it has a lot of catching up to do.

Too true.

Only Pal piercer I could find after weeks of searching was a Goblin TB Knife, 5/25.

Getting my piercing from 0-180 by mostly soloing took some patience.

You will find that many ppl are jealous of pallys due to the nice weapons available to paladins. This is indeed unfortunate, however I beleive that ppl should be more jealous of druids, as they're very powerful, perhaps more powerful than any other class. Personally i like this cause a druid is great to have in a group and since they dont take any xtra xp its fine with me that they're so powerful. But staying on the original subject, Paladins can prove to be extremely useful in a group. Gotta go eat now sorry i cant talk anymore.
RE: pallys DONT suck
# May 23 2001 at 11:20 AM Rating: Default
Er above 40 druids are kind of a waste of a group slot. If you have an open one sure but I would take almost any other class first once cleric and enc are in. Sure druids can solo but that gets very boring. I would never want to spend hours running in circles or rooting dotting and getting my sense heading maxed like most druids I know.

My experience with weapon
# Jan 13 2001 at 12:29 AM Rating: Default
The down side to this weapon is the lack of skill that I have.. Being a level 30 and used to doing 55-65 dmg per hit on a BIBS, it was hard getting used to .. But now that my skill is going up ( went from 30 - 65 in about 2 days ), I see that this weapon rocks.. Much faster than BIBS ).. I don't know if that price is accurate, but I basically got this for 500pp and it seems to be worth every penny = )..

I bought this weapon for 60pp from someone who needed the money when i was 15th level. At 21st lvl, now i am averaging 40 to 45 dmg per hit. This will probably be the best 60pp i will spend during the time I play this character.

About this weapon
# Dec 19 2000 at 1:43 PM Rating: Default
First off, is Two-Handed Piercing. I had one and was unable to equip my testament of vanear. For this reason, it is almost worthless. Why would anyone buy a 2handed weapon that has a worse dam/delay ratio than the wurmslayer, which is so very easily obtainable? I bought this weapon for 1k thinking I could easily resell it for the 5k range or so. Boy was I wrong...I sold it back to some n00b paladin for 1k. And yes, this does lead to a phat 2hp weapon for us paladins...there is one that drops in Nercopolis that is like 36/45 or something to that effect. And, if you are **** bent on using a piercing weapon, get you a harpoon of the depths to raise that skill. 8/25 2 dex and like 20 hp, and it is 1handed for us pally's you can bash all ya like :)

# May 29 2001 at 12:46 PM Rating: Default
Not sure why people are so judgemental or mean when making these posts. I also don't understand most of the time the information on the posts is wrong! Confirm what you're saying about these items! I posses both a Wurmslayer and MoQ...the Wurmslayer is 25 dam 40 delay 1hs, the MoQ is 20 dam 40 delay 2hp. There is no 1hp or 2hp break out currently, so just the pierce skill apllies to either....which is a good deal when learning the skill. Verant may address this in the future so check the date on this post! Both are great weapons, the Wurmslayer is slightly better and i use it when primary tank or solo. The MoQ I use every opportunity I can for varation in fighting and roleplaying. I used a dracnid leg tip like 9 dam 26 delay (guess) to practice my skill which is a 197 after 4 levels of intermittent use. There are incredible Western Waste drops 32/40 pally only piercers out there. If you want to get the best do so! The Wurmslayer is good! There are better. The Moq is a solid weapon, to say otherwise demostrates a lake of knowledge of the game.

my question is: what does a paladin need a testament of vanear for?
RE: About this weapon
# Jan 04 2001 at 3:06 AM Rating: Default
the dmg delay on wurmslayer is 25/40 the moq is 20/45, the moron who posted it as 25/50 should be shot, wurmslayer is clearly a better weapon, it adds 5 ac along with the str bonus, being a melee class i'd rather have the ac than wis, plus you can use a shield with wurmslayer witch adds more damage and more possible stat bonuses
RE: About this weapon
# Jan 04 2001 at 3:09 AM Rating: Default
ok, i made a typo moq is 20/40 but you get the point
RE: NOT worse than Wurmslayer
# Dec 26 2000 at 11:18 AM Rating: Default
Uh...more like the SAME damage/delay ratio as Wurmslayer. Wurmslayer (25/50), MoQ (20/40).

Both are 1/2 damage/delay making them roughly equal...except since at higher levels you gain bonus damage PER HIT based on skill the lower delay weapon with the same damage/delay ratio will do MORE damage over time. (don't believe me? Take a look at the Moss Covered Twig and you'll see why they nerfed it). MoQ's only flaw is it's a 2/hander.

RE: Wrong, Wurm is way better
# Feb 08 2001 at 2:18 AM Rating: Default
First of all Wurmslayer is 25/40, not 25/50. Point #2, Wurm is 1h slash allowing you a variety of shields or shieldlike weapons to use in offhand, MoQ doesn't.
If you are going to disagree with someone else's post at least have your facts straight please. IMHO Wurmslayer beats MoQ hands down.

RE: About this weapon
# Dec 21 2000 at 4:10 PM Rating: Default
Are you certain that a Paladin can use the Harpoon of the Depths & still use a shield? I've heard they can't.

As for this weapon, given it's delay of 40, I'm certain that it gains the bonus that all 2-handed weapons gain when they have a delay of 40 or better... not to mention the nice stat bonuses.

Wish I would've been that Paladin you sold this to, I think it's pretty nice.

# Dec 17 2000 at 9:42 PM Rating: Default
If you dont want it, DONT USE IT. They are not making you use it. Pallys still have a line of really good 2hs and 1hs weapons. I don't think they will change any of the old weapons to piercing, but if they do, then you can tell me to shut up. They are trying to help pallys out by giving them this new weapon, and others that are around, not hurt them.

lol - help paly's??? when did verant ever help paly's? this weapon is an insult. drop yr shield to use a 2hand piercer and lose 10 - 25 ac depending on which shield u have and the ability to bash and interupt casting?!?!?!?!
wurmslayer: 25/40 1hs & 5 ac, str and magic resist, plus trueheart shield - ac 20 & 5 to str, wis and agi. 2hp for paly's - fookin verant is either a pack of morons or just sadistic bastards.

OMG pallys suck. First they change the wurmslayer so pallys can use it, now they can use piercing weapons. They also get some of the best weapons in the game not very far to the sk and warriors out there. There swords look better also like the soulfire not far.

Hehe, the funny thing is that Warriors like to think that they rule the melee part of the game. In fact, they probally do, however it must worry them when paladins get something nice. They think that warriors are loosing their title of "The best melee classes in the game". Though Verant does blunder frequently, I do not beleive they would ever let warriors fall behind any other class , at least when it comes to soloing. One tip to you pallys out there: PPL constantly whine that paladins are to powerful. You will have to learn to ignore it, cause there will allways be another whining doofus waiting to diss us pallys.

Cry me a river, you stupid Iksar Warrior.

I bet you whine about how nice many of the Monk-only weapons are too, don't you?

For every nice Paladin weapon, there are ten nice Warrior weapons and four nice Shadowknight weapons.

More than half of the 1h-slash weapons in the game can be used by everyone except the Paladins!

Do you have any clue how hard it is to find a decent 1h-slash weapon for a Paladin in their 20's? And I certainly don't want to buy a Ghoulbane... I want to get it for myself one day.
My feelings exactly
# Mar 19 2001 at 1:53 PM Rating: Default
I agree with ya. Besides that warriors get that beautiful ability called...oh wait for it...duel wield. Oh **** does that mean that warriors can pick up two decent weapons and beat things into submission? Why yes it does. Plus warriors have that nice ability that gives them Hitpoint bonuses. SO don't cry about weapon usage not being fair you character is more than fair. S for Shadowknights they have dmg spells which Paladns do not have thus making them stronger in the tanking department. Therefore to equal things out Verant decides to allow some weapons and skills to be used by Paladins. You still don't like it then quit your warrior and pick up the armour of faith. Otherwise stop whining and play the game.

Afeter all it is JUST A GAME folks.

Rangers get nicer weapons then Palidans, if you use good duel weild combos. They just dont get as much hype because we need to duel weild them.
Percing weapons are being put in the game more because not many of the older high level melee's never used to get anywere near percing weapons. PERCING WEAPONS ARE MAKING A COMEBACK BOYS, GET USED TO IT!
