I have a level 40 Dru on Tunare, and I got this for him at level 35 in the bazaar for 100pp. Looking at the rest of these posts, I got a **** of a deal. Just goes to show what a little patience can do for you when buying something.
I will admit that it took me two days of shopping before I got the price I wanted, But it was worth the wait! As a Druid, I don't hit too well in melee fights, but I find this to be an Excellent item to have for those difficult times just before I ding to a new spell level. The old spells are not always enough to do the job, But this has saved my bacon more than once.

depends what class you are. but youd be safe with a group of 3 due to erratic spawn adds that occasionally occur.

You must have went during a ring war or something. Firbrand the Black spawns about 1 out of every 10 blacksmith and 1 out of every 10 times he has this. During ring war he is always up and always has this!

In my year of EQ life, today was the wrost day ever. I got two dark embers stolen from me, for those of you keeping score at home thats 3kpp gone in one day.

The frist was to someone i was PLing. He was using a Veilum Warhammer so i lent him my Dark Ember while i was PLing him. Halfway through he asked to trade hammers, i resisting laughing and said id rather keep mine. Anyway druing a short med break, he loged with my hammer.

After that i went back to Eastern Wastes to get a new one. Anyway after waiting four hours for FirBrand to pop, i get ready to cast harmony, and BAM KSed.

The moral of this story is not to trust newbies and make sure you annoce when your camping something

Oh btw, died three times that day

How about letting me hold all of you plat you have in the bank while you switch chars ....*snikers* Anyone who has played EQ (even newbies) know Trust must be earned NEVER let someone hold something you cant aford to loose and you ALWAYS announce your camps...and BTW ksing is only considered once a target HAS been enguaged NOT almost or about to ....So sorry about your bad luck....PS I will sell you my Dark Ember I got right before this guy thought he was going to drop him. Man he was mad too , said something about casting harmony and I was a kill stealer.

I have about 10kpp worth of gear and cash loaned out ot members of my guild, none of whom I know in RL. But I've known them a long time in game, and trust them.

But never loan something you can't afford to lose, especially to someone you don't know well.

BTW, a centi warhammer would have been better for PLing, and cheaper too.

After spending some time wearing a dress and playing with dolls, I decided to drop the wussy image and start getting fierce. Got a Netherbian Chitin to swap out with my Crystal Covered Shroud (stats are worse except for the AC, and fire resist) got me a Charred Guardian shield and this baby.
I'd been working up my melee skills with a Velium Etched mace then switched to this. Granted it's a bit slow, but I'm hitting for 25-30 a pop and with haste buffs, I'm almost doing viable melee damage. It procs like mad which is a nice little bonus. The stats kick *** and overall I'm VERY happy with this (I paid 500pp for the DE and a Goblin Soulcaller neckpiece to a guildie)

Hey, great. I'll go look for you. Oh wait, maybe you're on a different server. Also, you probably won't be on at the same time. Hopefully, you are able to sense my sarcasm. You will be very unlikely to get one of these by posting this here. A better idea would be to add one to your want to buy wishlist. Even better would be to go to your server's auction zone, or use the auction channel, and buy one online. Although, how a lvl 10 has 1000pp to spend on a weapon, I don't know. Furthermore, if you have 1kpp to spend, buy a good slashing weapon. centi shortsword will outdamage this, and is about 400pp. for 2 handed, you can pick up a mithril 2hander for about 500pp, and that will also outdamage this.

Leave these to the poor clerics and druids, who can't use the good slashing weapons.

Personally, I think this is a great weapon for me. I'm a 39 Druid, just bought it for 1k. When I solo I use it along with my ToV. When I'm in a group I use my Paw of Opolla and my ToV. I think the difference between WIS is not all that a big deal, especially when I can melee :).
And as far as a Duid not using a weapon after 34 (or whatever lvl) that's purely a Druid's OWN choice. If a Druid is worth anything he/she will already have done thier part (DS/snare/dot/DD) in the group BEFORE they begin to melee.

although i got mine with royal jesters on MT (thanks guys =)) there is an easier way to pull this guy. invis yourself then go inside and target him, then go outside and pull him through the wall. although there are pathing errors here, it is easier than harmonizing your way in. wait by fort entrance for him to bash you a couple times =p. i camped here 10 hours, only gloves, 8 hours the next day only gloves. i hate this guy to say the least. no deaths though

Killed firbrand today and he had it.Real nice stuff. For druids who would try to get this,i think lvl 38 is fine.its easy.first bind next to left wall(when you look at fort in front of entrance). Then go and harmonize guards at first entrance, then second and any wandering around.go inside and harmonize mystics.then carefully target someone in blacksmith room and cast harmony.go closer and cast it again, make sure everyone inside is harmonized.then click on firbrand.gate.hug the wall and cast ensnare on him, then run.he should gate on you soon, and with some luck, with no adds.i didnt have any at all.then its easy, root dot or something,i dropped him in 3 drones of doom and one firestrike(level 41) and had still 60m left.

As a primary slot item goes, I think the Cone of the Mystics fairs better in my opinion.
5ac, 5wis, 5int, and 50 mana I think outweighs the 20hp and 7sv fire...
Plus, how often are you actually going to melee as a druid (well, over 24 anyway).
Keep this as a weapon if you are soloing. If you run out of mana, and the mob is low enough in HP, you can beat it down..otherwise, there is no reason to have this as a druid.
Take a Wraithbone hammer as back up..and sell this....

Um, read a little closer. Drunken Cleric. Of course, after the Cleric patch that is comming up, Clerics should be able to solo more so this might be better. As of now though, you are right about the Cone of Mystics being better. Just so you know, as a 46 Druid, I melee everytime a MOB gets low on hit points and starts just standing there. (Ensnare does that for you) Good hunting everyone.

How can you say this thing sucks? It has a whopping 5 wisdom on it! Some other stats, but im not too crazy about those. Its 1hb, a reasonable dmg/dly, and a great cleric item :) I can not see why it is 2k... Although i think it might be from the rarity of it. Notice the Knobbed Warclub. 1k, and it only has 3 wisdom, not other anything. It is also a 8/24ish weapon. For an extra 1k, you get stat bonuses, and a weak proc. And also +2 more wisdom :) I have never seen this sell on xev, so it might be well past 2k, or well under, not sure here.
I hope i shed some light on this weapon.

Personally, I use two different setups. For groups, I use the paw, and testament. For soloing, which for me usually means farming green stuff for twinks, I use a centi warhammer, and my dread forged shield. Lose a lot of wis with it, but im usually just tanking down greens/lt blues when I am soloing, or camping a single mob, where running oom is less likely than getting beat to death (like Lord Grimrot in South Karana).

What's better, Dark Ember or the Jade Mace?
RE: Dark Ember vs Jade Mace
# May 20 2001 at 8:12 PM Rating: Default
Jade mace is better for Pallys and SKs...Dark Ember is better for Clr/Shm/Dru. Jade Mace will do more damage over a given period of time, but provides no stats. The wis casters suck at melee anyway, so the wis, hp, mana will be more important than the damage gained by using a jade mace.

Although, if you're a pally with high dexterity and a propensity for spells, the stats and proc of the ember look mighty appealing

Resuscitate is a lvl 39 spell (50% exp restoration)...which is often referred to by clerics as a "50% exp rez". It's pretty apparent that he's a cleric and you, a druid, feel it necessary to correct him on when HIS class receives their spells. Sheesh.
RE: oh my god.... ! ! !
# May 25 2001 at 4:54 AM Rating: Default
****HOLY ********

You didn't even "REZ" him... you merely Revived him. You are only 36th lvl, thus you can't "rez" a person till lvl 39!

Dude, you were WAAAAY lucky to get something like that! I know once I came upon a kind soul who bestowed on me Adamantium eapolets, CGS, and a Dwarven Sap. This is UBER to a 4th lvl cleric...heh... I leveled like 4 times more in one day... heh.. nice...
RE: oh my god.... ! ! !

Rez is any spell in the line... anything else is just freakin semantics. There are 4 rezzes... all of them can and will be referred to as a "rez" by most of the EQ population. In this case a no-xp rez was better than making the freakin long ***** run from Everfrost to Innnothule... being a cleric also he used the right term. Read any of the sites describing the spells they all refer to Revive as the first spell in the ressurection line... it isnt that only xp rezzes can be deemed worthy of the term.

2 of these dropped last night of one spawn. He was duel weilding them! I know they're lore I tried to loot both. He spawned after the War was triggered in the 8th step of the Coldian Insignia Ring quest. This was a real loot feast! We got 2 Dark Embers, the spear the chief drops, Orc Fang Necklaces, and an Oracle Shield. And we didn't even kill a tenth of what spawned!
Needless to say with some of the high level Orcs and gaints dead the Dwarves whipped out the orcs!!! :)

I'll be damned, i traded this for blackened crystalline robes and have been kicking myself ever since! The fact that i play a druid is even more reason to do so...

P.S I play on tallon zek btw

Don't kick yourself too hard...

The BCR was (and still is) worth more than the Ember, which is a nice toy.

I was medding to solo gate stuff when i saw him on track. I will spare the war stories. I am 44 ranger and was able to harmony everything on the path to him and oull him solo. He was about as tough as a cent. Luckily he respawned and I got both the gloves and DE in 25 mins.

When ever I am by the fort, I check tracking, if he is up, I med up and go pull him solo at 54. ****, I can pull him solo at 50 :)

Not hard at all, if you know what you are doing. Then Just snare, root and Burn him. 2 DD's and an ES vam killed him easy and so far I have gotten a Dark Ember and Gautlets.

BUT< if there is a group there, I DO NOT TAKE HIM. Thats just plain rude. Most of the time though, no one is at the fort fighting in the afternoon.

He is easy. Never hit me when I have pulled him. Nice item too.
Got one today

I was helping a guild member finish the quest that takes place in the orc fort. We sat in the Blacksmith room and waited for the puller. While he was pulling Firbrand spawned in the room. He dropped the Gloves and the Dark Ember.

In about 10 minutes time, We got Dark Ember, Gloves of the black, Chill Spear (off of the chief), and a really kewl looking shield that drops off of the Oracles that added to wisdom.

At the end of it all I was given the Dark Ember needless to say, my level 13 cleric was very happy indeed.

A weapon that a Paladin and a ShadowKnight can use, but not a Warrior? About flippin' time! :)

It's easy to know if Firbrand will drop this weapon, because you will clearly see if he has it, since he uses it if so :)

I think he is not as tough as an elite or legionnaire, but he was blue to a level 47.
Lucky Me! :)

I wouldn't have paid 8k for this item, because I don't have 8k to spend.

However, my guild took 8 people, 40-55, to the Rygorr fort, with the specific goal of getting me a pair of Gauntlets of the Black. 4 hours there, and as we were leaving, Firebrand the Black FINALLY spawned, and dropped the Fire Ember.

VERY nice weapon for fighting off those high aggro greenies.
I am a Dik, more or less

I bought one for my druid for 1500pp. Not a bad price considering I know of others that have paid 2500pp or more.
# Feb 03 2001 at 2:00 AM Rating: Default
Rare? Maybe we were lucky. Our group got 4 of them in 6 hours including 2 in a row. The gloves only dropped twice in that period. Great Weapon! We had 2 groups of 6 ranging from 35 - 49 and were able to maintain camps in Blacksmith and Cheif room (better have 2 chanters tho....)
RE: Rare?
# Feb 16 2001 at 7:13 PM Rating: Default
was this recently, or when SOV first released? I got my DE within the first 2 weeks of release, along with about 100 other people in the zone. They were rotting or being given away to the first person to show. But sinced Verant nerfed the spawn on all good stuff in EW (and elsewhere in Vel i assume) the DE is very uncommon. In fact, after camping the chief area for several days in a row, I only saw one drop.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 28 2001 at 2:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Thats all you're gonna get from trying to sell this weapon. Or at least thats all i've gotten from clerics. "NOO this weapon isn't worth 8k! its only worth 2k!" or "You're so crazy! its so easy to get its not worth what you want in trade!" or "Here take this ry'gorr armor and other items for trade! -I'm not interested in that- *SIGH* you're so crazy! All of this is worth ten times the amount of dark ember!! -Thats nice but i'm not interested in what you have to offer- *SIGH* you don't know anything!!"
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 01 2001 at 6:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Well say what you want idiot but its not easy to get. The spawn is rare adn the item is rare your lucky to see one drop once each real day. I don't care what the price says i would never sell for less than 10k it is arguably the best cleric weapon out there except for the epic. It took 2weeks for me to get one and that was camping the spawn for 10hours a day. If you avtually have anything intelligent to say please do but untill then dont post. (and yes there are spelling errors ive been up for 19hours)

The best Cleric weapon out there?

Not hardly.

A proc that we'll never use (unless we're unlucky enough to get jumped while looking for a group.), A weight that's a bit much for carrying around, and not much better wisdom than many other weapons.

Personally, I think this is an awesome Paladin weapon... Shaman & Druid to a much lesser extent, but Paladin most deffinitely.

Well, for many druids, this is a great upgrade from for example velium etched stone mace. Not that druids ever do serious melee, but because druids often solo alot.

In a solo situation this weapon is good against a low level caster mob, as you have a good ratio and interupt his casting. Also, as im sure any soloing druid would agree, a decent weapon is good for saving mana after root/DOT when the snared mob turn their back after last root break, or for finishing the last stubborn mob from the quadkite.

lol, I recieved one of these last night from a close friend upgrading from my Velium Etched Stone Mace. The wis enabled me to wear some gear with more AC/HP/Mana/resists without dropping below 200 wis. The other great thing about this is I hit for 37 - great for taking out those pesky undead that think they may stand a chance at taking you... :)

#Anonymous, Posted: May 27 2001 at 5:06 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) So what you're saying is it's a weapon with a proc that we will in fact use, because you'll always get aggroed by bixies and skeletons regardless of level, a weight that's pretty much the same as every other 1HB, and it gives better wisdom than most weapons.
Drops in Velious - roughly 8k to sell

I've had a couple of these pass through my trader's hands. They've gone anywhere (on Tallon Zek) from 7k-10k worth in trades only. Currently this is my main weapon.
