I just got this bad boy and sold my wepons that I was using before(Sword of the Bloodsworn and Blackened Acrylia Blade) and bought an Ornate Stone Battle Hammer. Talk about great dps.I ened up having to buy the Jade reaver and MQ the Swirling Sphere of Color but well worth it for the 40% haste and +30 atk.

Ok, first of all, unless you are super uber (Time equipped or weapons close to those) Swiftwind is probably the best secondary weapon for a ranger. By using your OLoS, your losing about 20% haste as well as 30 atk. If I was you, I'd get rid of the OLoS and the SCHW, because to me, they don't compare to a Swiftwind.

Greeting rangers of Norath. Just wanting to let everyone know that I am now the owner of this fine sword, grats to IA for the help.

Now, I am having some real problems. Pre-epic I was using a tox axe in main with an ornate long sword of slaughter in the off hand, deadly combo. I was excited to get my swiftwind unitl I acctually equiped it. It did not really improve my DPS, leaving the tox axe in the main hand. I am guessing that this is a situational item, now, and I had SCHW for haste before my epic. It seems like I can kill mobs faster, solo, with the hand wraps and the tox/OLoS combo then I can with the tox/swifty combo. Have yet to try the OLoS/swifty combo because of the 30+ delay of the OLoS.

Oh well, I did 1/2 of it and am raiding PoH to get the SEoC so I will have both. I just wanted to let the rangers out there know this, so that if they have really nice weapons already, this probably wont be an upgrade for you. It is still a cool status symbol to have your epics. I am a lvl 52 woody ranger by the way, only took me a year to get this far, hehe.

Faelin Bloodbriar and the Worn Note

I read thru the posts and did see anything about Faelin Bloodbriar that I'm about to share. When I've seen her, she is always running around. Hailing her does not stop her for conversation. So I just ran behind her, gave the worn note (on the run) and quickly hit the Give button. No problems at all. I got her ring in return and she despawned. If you have experienced other different results, please let me know.

As to other posts on better Ranger-usable weapons, I think the idea is to foster a sense of pride and completion of a long and arduous quest. Anyone is able to collect enough plat to buy a sweet bazaar sold item.

In many ways, quests of this nature bring together several aspects of why we play the game. A sense of adventure, shared danger with comrades-in-arms, and the thrill when you achieve your final goal. After all, we are "Ever-Questing".

For those of us without access to the high end gear of the Elemental Planes and such, this is a GREAT Ranger sword for what is does for archery alone. It's very hard to get 40% and better haste items, let alone with Attack bonuses. MANY Rangers, even with better swords for melee, switch to Swiftwind when doing archery so they can get the attack bonus and get 40% haste. It still has great uses.

Also, this is still fairly comparable to almost every weapon we could buy in the bazaar, but with the haste . . .

As far as I'm aware, regular worn haste items have NO effect on archery. If you want an item that effects archery you need to get yourself a good quiver. Quivers give 1/3 their weight reduction to bow haste. Thus, A Fleeting Quiver with 60% weight reduction will give you 20% bow haste.

Haste SPELLS on the other-hand will effect bow haste so get a Chanter, Shaman, or Bard(if grouped with them) to give you haste.

You would probably be better off with a good 36% haste item and better weapons than these swords. If money is a big problem, then these swords might be the upgrade you're looking for.

Yes, worn haste DOES effect archery. They only gave us quiver haste (equal to 1/3 of the weight reduction) because our bows were, at the time, so badly underpowered.

Swiftwind is not the best weapon in the game, but for those us that will most likely never get to the really high tier stuff, it is GREAT! Haste, Attack, great stats and resists. While the damage/delay isn't as good as a Stained Axe, for example, the stained axe is most likely being used at 22-31% haste. Haste to 40% and this is comparable.

You say get 36% Haste item? Hmm, how about I buy one in the bazaar? Whoops, they are up for sale at 150K for plat-for-dollars cheaters to buy. Go kill something with one? Well, too high level for Naggy and Vox, guild not strong enough for some of the others. Yet, with help from friends we were able to get to Pegasus/Griffon Isle for this epic!

I have eyepatch of plunder as well (20% self spell haste) so I'm at 60% melee. With my Fleeting Quiver (60% WR, so 20% archery haste) I'm at 80% bow haste.

Please do your research before posting that worn haste has no effect on archery, like on a Ranger forum where this has been researched.

Let me also point out that if your spell and worn haste has already put you at your haste cap (like at 84% for me) archery is then added to it. So if I'm at 84% through worn and spell, I'm at 104% archery because of my fleeting quiver. It's true and documented by people much smarter than me!

Yes there are much better melee weaps for folks with Ele planes access. I STILL want to complete this for the +30 ATK for archery, and you need to complete Swiftwind to get the part needed to go with the Hate drop for Earthcaller. Earthcaller is a wonderfull solo weapon due to the SLOW. A Ele geared Ranger wouldn't use either epics all the time BUT they would still use both some of the time situationally. Thus its still worth the effort. I hope to get the Hole part done soon to make my Swiftwind Smiley: smile

You can say there are better items than the epics for most classes. So why are people still completing their epic quests?

It's a matter of pride to a lot of us.

I started at 51. Some people say you must be 51 before quest NPCs will talk to you. Getting Swiftwind is easy if you have 5 high lvl (60+) friends.

By the way, Swiftwind is primary only now.

http://www.eqrangers.com/epic-text.htm is a nice step-by-step guide telling you who to talk to, where to get what, and who to give it to. http://www.eqrangers.com/epic-p.htm is a nice checklist (with auto-print Javascript) that lists each step. I suggest you print this out and check off each thing as you do it. You can do some things in a different order, but some items are used for intermediate tasks before being turned in. You might give away something you still need. Before you attempt a step out of order, make sure any turnin items aren't needed for other tasks.

Here's how I broke it up...

1-6 Getting the Shiny Tin Bowl
7-11 Getting the Hardened Mixture
12-16 Getting the Ancient Pattern
17-20 Getting the Platinum Speckled Powder
21-22 Getting the Enchanted Clay
23 Make the Runecrested Bowl
24-27 Getting the Ancient Longsword
28-34 Getting the Refined Mithril Blade
35-36 Getting Swiftwind
37-38 Getting Earthcaller

Obviously those can be broken down differently, but that seeemed pretty logical to me. Basically you have to do the whole epic minus the SEoC from Plane of Hate to get Swiftwind. Toward the end, the quests for the two items become intertwined, so that the only thing you can really skip to get just Swiftwind is the SEoC.

You give Faelin the Refined Ancient Sword to get Swiftwind. To spawn Faelin, you need to give Telin the sword first. You get that version of the sword from Usbak the Old. Usbak is spawned by giving Kinlo the hammer. That version of the hammer is from Mairee upon turning in the hammer off Jaeil and the SSoC from Plane of Air. The original version of the sword is from Telin in exchange for the Warmly Glowing Stone, which is from the stone off Venril Sathir's Remains and from the Runecrested Bowl. The bowl is from the Ancient Pattern, Platinum Speckled Powder, Enchanted Clay, and the Hardened Mixture. The Hardened Mixture is made in the Shiny Tin Bowl.

As you can see, you really have to do steps 1-36 to get your Swiftwind. The SSoC (and possibly other parts) could be MQed, but someone will have to do the first 36 steps to be able to get Swiftwind.

OK, but when he turns in his piece, does he hit give THEN i give my piece? Or do I do it while his give window still open?
In other worfs, does he do his WHOLE transaction before mine? i.e. he gives swirling sphere, then hits give, then I give hammer, then hit trade? Or does he give and keep window open while I give my piece? Then he hit give and I hit give? this is where I am confused.

No, you don't have to turn it at the same time as the person who MQ it for you does. Let them turn it and then turn your part in.

Yesterday as I was crossing the Bazaar I /ooced that I was looking for a MQ Swirling Sphere of colour./ Someone who turned out to be a 57 epic (Swifty & Earthcaller) RNG told me he got the sphere and agreed on MQing it for a Tigeraptor Cloak and Long Sword of Ethereal Energy :-)

We then went to Mairee Silentone in Erudin Palace, he gave the sphere, told me he'd done so, then i gave the hammer, and Bob's your uncle. 15 minutes later i'd my epic in hand :) I then went and grouped in PoV to try it out, and it rules !

Many thanks to Andaeinn for his helping me getting Siwfty :)

You have to complete the whole quest to get both earthcaller and swifty. Swifty is easier to get as it's all straight up fights/quests.

Earthcaller is a PITA as you need to get the SEOC from Hate which is an ultra rare drop.

So in order to get EC, you have to do all the steps of swifty. Then when you have swifty, EC only one drop from Hate away. It's getting that drop that will make you pull your hair out.

When you turn in the Hammer of the Ancients, do you get 2 "small bit of Mithril Ore" or does the first turn in mob give it back for the second turn in? Or is it required to repeat the steps to get another "Hammer of the Ancients"? I havent seen this posted anywhere else.
RE: Turn Ins
# Jul 11 2003 at 9:43 AM Rating: Good
You get one small piece of mithril ore. You give that small piece of mithril to Kinlo to get the refined mithril blade. You give the mob that spawns from the soulbound hammer the ancient sword and he gives you refined ancient sword.

Turn in refined ancient sword to Telin Darkforest. This will spawn Faelin Bloodbriar. You then giver the refined ancient sword, and you get swiftwind.

Swifty is great - A few minor things I have noticed that i would like to talk of / share .

Swifty has per haste of 40% - please remember there is a haste cap and a dly cap . Haste cap is quite low below 50 but not so relevant as youll be 50 ish when you get this. DLY cap .. no weapon can have its effective delay dropped below 10 ( this has been stated regularly by verant and soe) bear it in mind when choosing primary - It will take you a lot longer to get earthcaller but with this pairing soloing is great - 40% haste 50% slow and 500 dot means mob is a lot less scarey.

Im not getting into the ratio / dly pri/sec thing as people have already stated this correctly and if peeps dont get it they should have bought a finger waggler on ebay not a ranger :).

Some primary weapons to consider
Lupine dagger - Club of ice ocean - Long sword of ethereal energy - Edge of the nightwalker (<< my personal choice) - Snowchipper - all have advantages - good ratio , some proc , some have good stats , none are too slow . Quite a few are at the cheaper end of the market ( on a mature server so wont get into prices)

All in all swifty rules .... i love it :) the lightning on the blade ... the effort to get it all worth it and I am trying for earthcaller too - oh and soloing rangers ... eyepatch of plunder should get you to your haste limit as it is a spell :)

From what I've read there is no minimum delay cap. The way Everquest logs it only records once a second, so parses show the minimum delay to be 10 (1 second), even if you're hitting faster. I've never seen SoE stating there was a delay cap either - could you post a link? I'm interested to see if there really is a delay cap or not.

I've searched and searched.. and no luck, but I also remember reading about a "delay cap" of 10. What i can't remember however is where i read this (most likely dev corner) or if it was referring to a hard cap including haste, or a minimum delay that would be placed on an item. Mosscovered twig is the fastest weapon i personally know of, and it would make sense if that's what they were referring to.

If i happen to be able to find the post itself, i'll put a link here.

RE: MQ
# Feb 10 2003 at 8:04 AM Rating: Decent
In January, I had the Swirling Sphere MQ'ed for me.

Both my guild-leader and I were apprehensive to the NPC. Obviously, neither of us wanted to find out whether this mattered. So, my guild-leader put the Sphere into a trade window with the NPC, waited while I finished casting SupCamo on him, and then hit 'give'. Then I hit 'sneak', came up from behind, handed her my contibution and got my reward.

Again, whether we needed to do this is uncertain to me, but it seemed the safest bet.

Best of luck on your questing ... I hope this helps :)

#mirrorclaw, Posted: Nov 19 2002 at 10:47 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I recently got Swiftwind and I was a little pissed when it said that it could only be put in my secondary weapon slot. All info that I have read says it can be put in either primary or secondary. It appears it was to nasty in the primary slot and it was nerfed. It is true that with a 40 percent haste this weapon is effectively about 13/13 which is very nasty and the delay on your secondary weapon doesnt matter since its chance to hit is based on how many times you hit with your primary. It appears, with this change, there really isnt a point for rangers to get Earthcaller considering its delay is 24 and there are better weapons out there now. You dont usually want your fast delay weapon in your secondary slot! What the hell are these game designers thinking!

when you have dual wield say u have an 11/24 and a 13/25 you would put the 13/25 in your PRIMARY hand and the 11/24 in your SECONDARY hand. the faster your secondary hand moves the more chances you have for it to complete a full dual wield swing of 4 hits.

Nope, thats wrong. Primary and secondary are independent. You could have a wurmslayer in primary, and a jade mace in secondary, and the jade mace would have the chance to swing every 1.8 seconds, regardless of when the wurmslayer is ready to hit again (every 4 seconds).

so, assuming you hit each time, and got successful duel wield AND double attacks, you could see:

you slash %t for 80 points damage
You slash %t for 67 points damage
you crush %t for 24 points damage
you crush %t for 38 points damage
you crush %t for 8 points damage
you crush %t for 16 points damage

because the secondary was ready to swing again 2.2 seconds before the primary, was hcekced, passed the roll, and therefore swung again.

Just wanted to add, secondary swings are related to your dual wield skill, and are in no way related to your primary swing/delay. I'm not going into a full explanation, cause, honestly, it's been covered so many times before that I actually thought this myth was gone. Silly me.

RE: Secondary slot?

Aye dear this goes into our secondary slot :-)

In hind sight it is easier for you to find better upgrades and situational use for your primary hand Earthcaller. There are a number of fine weapons than can be subtituted for the earth caller but you will be harder pressed to find a replacement for your swiftwind until your guild is NTOV capable at the earliest, and more than likly until you are able to take the glyphed in SSRA.

Earthcaller has a nasty proc that slows the mob by 50% but causing you to jump up on the hate list everytime it procs -- lovely when you are the MA for a Velks non castle group, but quite deadly at times during your guild raids. It is a wonderful tool for slowing the mob if soloing or in a small chanter/BL/Shamanless group.

As for the quest itself, addressing the question below, it is one of the more difficult epics to complete, from what I understand, but it is not the toughest. Most rangers who are guilded with at least 1 solid level 59-60 group can complete the epic walk through

The fine Ranger Crydee made the linked version of the quest here : www.questing-ranger.com

It has also been added, in its complete form below. Prior to begining the quest in earnest, ensure you:

1. Preserve your Tunare faction until you complete Swiftwind -- no PoGrowth killing for you until complete

2. Forage all your 5 items before you start. Makes things go easier.

3. Try to do the first mob in East Karana early after a server reset. Less chance then of having the epic mob go goofy on you

4. Link up with your guildiies and do the VSR / VS portion. This is the toughest mob in your epic, and the one that tends to give people the most problems.

5. When you head off to the hole, find 4 or 5 other rangers your level. If everyone of those 6 rangers brings a good friend (Chanter, warrior/TANK, Cleric minimumn) then you will have 2 groups and a whole bunch of Ranger DPS. Two groups of 55-58 can clear to the mob rather quickly and then simply respawn the mob for each ranger who needs to complete that portion of your epic. One good solid group of 58-60 can clear to the mob, but this is harder to find in younger guilds.

6. Look for other people who need their epic items from the Plane of air. Generally the sphere drops about twice per clearing of that plane, and there are several classes (Mages, necros off the top of my head....) that also require trips to POA

Hope this helps out a bit and eases your fears. It is a tough quest for a young ranger, but it is a class defining weapon, great stats, 30 ATK, and a very special look.

Happy questing

How hard? I'd say... epic. Considering all of the epics are VERY hard (to some degree, I am not going to measure them against eachother), this one ranks right up there with them. It is fun to quest though, IMO, and getting your class's Epic Weapon makes it all that sweeter.

DO NOT attempt last turn in until you are at LEAST level 50. If you do, you will lose all of your work and have to restart your epic. In fact I believe it is level 50, but it could be 51 so be safe about it

Thats not true.. You do not have to be lvl 50+ to do the final turn in... I have a friend (49 ranger) and he started his epic quest at 46.. And finished.... At 46... However!!! If you mean FINAL TURN IN as in (Earthcaller Turn-in) I do not know about.. A also have another friend (51 ranger) and he started at 46 and finished at 48.. So no, you do not have to be lvl 50+ to do the swiftwind part of the quest... Hope this helps

I recently got Swiftwind and probably will struggle with the SEoC for a while for Earthcaller.

Currently I have a Wurmy 24/40? and a Jagged Blade of Mourning 13/25. I can also probably trade the wurmy for a centi LS (I made the trade the other way with a guildie)

So, my question is, which weap should I use main hand, Wurmy, Centi LS or Jagged Blade of Mourning?
RE: What do I use with it?
# Oct 02 2002 at 7:11 AM Rating: Default
if your weapons have similar ratios, the longer delay should always go secondary. wurmys suck.
secondary delay DOES NOT MATTER. wurmslayer and other weapons with huge damage/delay are primary ONLY because of this.. otherwise they'd just be too good.
if you're holding a 16/30 in your secondary you'll do just as much damage as if you were holding a 16/100.
if the ratio is the same on two weapons for your primary, get the one with lower damage/delay.
the best set of weapons you could possibly have would be something like primary 8/16 secondary 20/2000.

First, I apologize that this post is under Swiftwind, as it has no business being here, but I thought it was my duty to head this misinformation off before it misled someone into making a poor weapon decision.

Second, I'm sorry, but you are absolutely wrong. High damage is not what is desireable in offhand, ratio is. The reason is that you don't get damage bonuses in offhand. A 20/2000 weapon would certainly not do just as much damage as a 20/30 in offhand. I have no idea where you got this information, but I hope it is not within reach of the general public.

Here's what to look for in offhand -
1) Ratio - Damage to delay ratio is THE most important factor when considering a weapon in offhand. Since you aren't getting a damage bonus in offhand, you can throw this number out.

2) Weapon procs/effect - A nice DD/DoT/Effect will increase damage and therefore cover for a certain amount of loss in ratio. Keep in mind that you can't always count on a proc to land, as most higher level mobs will resist frequently. Also, all procs either landed or resisted build aggro, which can be a bad thing for inexperienced rangers who are not skilled at aggro management.

3) Stats - Certain stats can make a difference, although it takes a lot of very nice stats to make up for any loss in ratio.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I've always thought.

On top of everthing Ganwein said I've noticed this also:

1) Evertime your mainhand weapon swings you roll for a chance of dual wield. Thus I've always kept my lowest dly (not necessarily lowest ratio) weapon in mainhand. Supposedly I should be getting more dual wields since my character is rolling for the skill more often.

2) I have always been under the impression that mainhand and offhand swing independently of each other, so I've always thought a 10.20 weapon in mainhand swings as often as offhand. I have switched weapons between hands and done many trial tests on many different mobs. I always seem to proc more in mainhand /shrug. I'm guessing I HAVE to be swinging more in mainhand for this to happen but am not sure. So depending if you want less aggro or want more damage (or if this happens to you at all :)) choose b/t the two.

P.S. Wurmy's for rangers suck in almost all scenarios. Please buy one, use it for a week or two, get over it and get something else.

OK 1) and 2) in your post are contradictory. You can't have a dualwield check based on swinging your mainhand weapon AND have them swing independently.

I think the following is what you meant to say, but either way, this is how dualwield works:

You get a chance to dual wield every time the delay of the OFFHAND weapon expires, NOT everytime the delay of the main hand weapon expires. Otherwise delay would not matter on offhand weapons, and it would be pointless for offhand-only weapons (such as swiftwind) to even have delays.

Heh.. like my nice tie-in there? I actually mentioned swiftwind since that is where I'm posting.

You are kind of correct apart from the chance to dual wield is based on the cycle of the weapon So on a dly of say 24 every 2.4 secs you will do a check for a chance to wield your off hand weapon.
In main hand you dont check for the dual wield so any proc will occur more oftem
Ps Wurmy's dont suck for rangers at low lvls but they do at high (i.e late 40's lvls) because of the way dmg bonus is figured in

When i finish, and get my Swiftwind, I am bankin'
on having my LSOEE in primary.
15 ac in LSOEE, 16/29 ratio. With my haste belt, and haste from the swiftwind proc...the delay of 29 is gonna drop down bigtime, leaving nearly a 1/1 ratio in primary,, pumping out 16 damage, not even mentioning offhand. My 2 cents....

Will the epic haste from swiftwind stack with another haste item like an FBSS or the Sash of the Dragonborne?

Reason I'm asking is that I've always thought that two permement haste items can never stack with each other. A haste item will stack with a bard song or an enchanter spell or from an item proc, but not with another item haste. Please explain.

You are right.
Best Permahaste + bard song haste + spell haste = total haste. Then there is haste cap.
And Swiftwind has permahaste, not clickable as some people seem to think.

FULL Ranger Epic Weapon quest walkthrough!!!!

Part 1: Obtain the Shiny Tin Bowl
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Telin Darkforest in Burning Woods, Kunark

Telin Darkforest can be found near the zone to Skyfire Mountains. The easiest way to find him is to head to the North East part of the zone, towards Skyfire, and you should eventually pick him up on tracking.

You say, 'hail Telin Darkforest'
Telin Darkforest looks at you serenely. 'Hello, wanderer.'
You say, 'what are you doing in this forest'
Telin Darkforest says 'Mighty this place must have been, once. Now scarred by hatred and suffering. I have been sent here seeking answers to problems not yet understood.
You say, 'what answers'
Telin Darkforest considers you for a few moments before speaking. 'A great evil walks across the land. The hand of some demon we don't yet know is twisting and polluting forests.'
You say, 'what evil'
Telin Darkforest says 'If I knew that, I wouldnt be here looking for answers. I would be elsewhere, looking for solutions. For now, I suspect much but know little.
You say, 'what do you suspect'
Telin Darkforest looks at you and sighs. 'The lands are changing. Beasts, large and small, have turned upon those who watched over them. Druids and rangers, worshippers of both Karana and Tunare, have reported a feeling of hatred throughout their once peaceful lands.'
You say, 'perhaps it is Innoruuk'
Telin Darkforest raises his eyebrow slightly and a subtle look of surprise creeps across his face. 'Innoruuk? Perhaps. Aye. It must be. Perhaps I knew and didn't want to consider the possibility. It must be this though, and some action will have to be taken.'
You say, 'what action should I take'
Telin Darkforest looks at you consideringly and then scribbles something quickly on a small, worn paper. 'You seem powerful enough. Perhaps you can help those who seek to protect nature's peace. Take this note. Deliver it only into the hands of Faelin Bloodbriar. Where you will find her, I cannot say. She is a friend of mine and a wanderer. She has been seen from one end of the lands to the other. Seek her out, and quickly.'

Telin Darkforest gives you a "Worn Note" to take to Faelin Bloodbriar.

Faelin Bloodbriar in Greater Faydark, Faydark

Faelin Bloodbriar spawns at POS 1500, POS 500 in Greater Faydark. Her placeholder is an orc pawn. Faelin is a rare spawn. Just hang around this area and kill all orc pawns you see around the area. Once you see either Faelin or an orc pawn spawn, you can procede to camp just that spot and not worry about additional orcs.

Give Telin’s note to Faelin
Faelin Bloodbriar reads the note carefully and growls to herself. 'Bad news, eh? Take this ring. There is one elf, dark elf even, who we must go to in order to gather insight into Innoruuk's plans. Giz X'Tin, he goes by most commonly. Kithicor seems to be his favorite haunt and most likely you will find him there. Don't ask how I know him. Just take the ring as my sign to him and he will speak to you. We don't need to speak again, so dont seek me out, just goto Telin. I must leave to investigate these events.'

Giz X'Tin is a wandering spawn that has been mostly seen towards the north end of the zone. He said to spawn around POS 1000, POS 1500. It is known that he does wander the zone. I have seen hin on track durning the day and night time. The easiest way that I have found to find him is to run along the way between West Commons and Rivervale. If he is up, you will most likely pick him up on tracking. Most likely your faction with Giz X'Tin will not be high enough, cast Spirit of Wolf on yourself, run up behind him and sneak before you give him Faelin's Ring.

Give Faelin’s Ring to Giz X'Tin
Giz X`Tin flips you a coin after he recognizes the ring. 'It seems we have a mutual 'acquaintance.' The coin repays an old debt. You don't have to worry about what that is. Luckily, Lord Innoruuk has informed me of your coming and your desires. Fortunately, I have all the answers you require right here at the end of my friend's blade. I think I'll be paying my old 'friend' a visit.'
Teir`Dal Reaver says 'Lord Innoruuk, I have failed you. Forgive me and spare me from service to your undead minions in the world!

Telin Darkforest in Burning Woods, Kunark

Give coin to Telin
Telin Darkforest scratches the coin as he looks at it. 'Faelin sent you to Giz? Surprising. This coin speaks to the outcome of your talk. He would hardly give this bit of metal to a stranger, but that's a story for a different time. So, you say Giz did confirm Innoruuk's involvement, and something about undead minions? Here, take this coin back. Find Arch Druid Althele in the Karanas and show her that. Tell her what we have discussed. She will look kindly on an ally in this matter.'

NOTE: Do not procede with this part until you are ready to deal with the Dark Elf Corruptor and two Dark Elf Reavers that will spawn. If you fail to kill the Dark Elf Corruptor you will have to the start quest over from the beginning.

Althele can be found close to the Barbarian Village around NEG 3650, NEG 1600. Tholris and Fang should also be there with her. If you see any of the other druids with her, do not give her the coin right away. First check to see if someone is currently in the process of doing this part of the quest. If this is the case, just wait for them to finish up. Althele, Tholris and Fang all respawn thirty minutes after all the druids have been despawned. The other possibility, is that someone had tried to do this part of the quest, failed and the spawn is messed up. If this is the case, you may have to wait for the server till after the server goes down again to be able to the quest.

You say, 'hail Althele'
Althele says 'Hello, friend. Beautiful is what I would call such a day normally but lately?
Give Coin to Althele
Althele looks at the coin and nods gravely at you as she slips it into a fold of her clothing. 'I see. The story of this coin speaks much to me as do the words you have given me. Telin sent word that you would arrive. The tidings you bring are ill indeed. Here, take this amulet and find Sionae. She is nearby. We will speak more on this matter when all are present.'

You say, 'why do you need him as your hands and fang as your eyes?'
Althele says 'Yes. I cannot see any longer, my sight long since lost in the march of years. By the blessings of Tunare and Karana, though, I still make myself useful.

If Nuien is killed, the spawn will be messed up and you will have to start all over. Even if Nuien argos on someone, you can still give him the Frayed Braided Grass Amulet. He will then start walking to the gathering place and Teloa will spawn.

Give amulet to Nuien
Nuien says 'So be it. Do as you have done before and find the next. Teloa is the last.

Nuien gives the "Frayed Braided Grass Amulet" back to you, and Teloa spawns near the waterfall around NEG 3800, NEG 2860.

Give amulet to Teloa
Teloa begins walking toward the gathering spot. 'Follow me to the gathering now.'

Follow Teloa back to where Althele is, which is where the druids are gathering. You will not have the amulet at this point as she does not return it to you.

Althele says 'Great mother of life and father of sky, growth and spirit, Tunare and Karana. Innoruuk once again schemes and we have failed in our duties to protect our land. We give our powers in sacrifice for your help. Heed our call and send us your wisdom.
Althele snaps her head towards you. 'Innoruuk's brood is upon us. Go, find the spawn of hatred before they reach this point and destroy them!'

Dark Elf Corruptor and several Dark Reavers spawn, level supposed to be 50ish. Only the Corruptor is said to have to be killed. It is recommended that you root him, so he does not despawn on you. Additionally, it has been mentioned that he cannot be pulled, so you have to rush in and attack him.

Dark Elf Corruptor shouts 'We come for you, fools. Your reign of weakness over the powers of the land comes to an end now!

The easist way to do this is to have two group of people waiting on the hill. The first group will attack the Dark Elf Corruptor immediately. The second group will kite the Dark Elf Reavers to keep them distracted until the Corruptor has been killed. Even though you will miss most [or all] of the fighting, you should be one of the people in the group killing the Corruptor just so that you will be able to loot his corpse right away and get the "Fleshbound Tomb."
Once the Dark Elf Corruptor is killed, the group killing the Corruptor will take out the reavers. Even though some advocate killing the corruptor and letting the reavers get the druids. I don't recommend this for several reasons. First off, it is not within the theme of the quest to let the druids get killed. Secondly, it is more time productive to kill the reavers also then turn in the Felshbound Tomb to Althele right away.

The wait usually isn't long, so it is easier to wait for her to come to the guards. She doesn't stay in one place for long, so you may want to bring along a friend to constantly hail until you give her the Earth Stained Note.

You say, 'hail Ella Foodcrafter'
Ella Foodcrafter says 'Hi, hi. I've got a lot to do, many mouths to feed, some filthy goblins to smack. If you don't need me for something, please let me go back to my work. Karana watch over you.'

Make sure that you have at least one General inventory slot free as the next item you receive is a container. Give Earth Stained note to Ella Foodcrafter.

Ella Foodcrafter says 'Hmmm. I've been waiting for someone to bring me this. I'm sorry such a young one as you has taken up this task. Maybe the sky god blesses ya though. Aye, ya have that look in your eye. Our task is to focus the blessings of the gods and cleanse the filth from the land. I'll need two things from ya.
You say, 'what two things?'
Ella Foodcrafter says 'Well, ya ask before ya act. That's a good sign. What I need isn't easy to find. First, I need a mixture. Plain sounding enough but it's a special one. Cleanses the mind and focuses the earth's energies into a forest walker's mind. I don't know how to make it. I don't even know what it's called. I merely know it exists and we'll be needing it for our task. When ya do find how to make it ya can mix it in that bowl. Keep it when youre done, it's a good bowl.'

Ella Foodcrafter gives you a "Shiny Tin Bowl" which identifies as Ellas Reflective Tin Bowl to create the Hardened Mixture.

Alrik Farsight rummages thriugh his tattered bag and throws aside a towel. ‘To many towels. Oh well, someone told me they were good to have once. Here it is, a bowl pattern. Interesting bowl. Looks almost like a magical bowl but I’m np potter. You need it, you say? Well, it is interesting. Part of my research here is for the wizard guild in Felwithe. I’m sure they’d put a high price on this one, the enchanters guild being so interested in trading for magical paraphernalia and all. Of course if you helped me out on a chore I have, I’d be happy to give it to you. I need to deliver an artifact to the guild and I’d much rather stay here exploring. Mairee Silentone holds the sphere and makes intricate marks and patterns on it, eventually turning the entire crystal clear. She rolls it across the hammer, raising a ringing sound in the room. 'There. Now take the hammer back to Kinlo. He'll know what to do from here. Good luck to you .'

Mairee Silentone gives you the "Hammer of the Ancients," which identifies as Hammer of an ancient dwarf.

Kinlo Strongarm looks at the hammer and nods once before slamming the head against his anvil, and shattering the head. In a cloud of dust, another dwarf appears from the cloud and tosses you a hunk of metal. Kinlo stares in awe.

Usbak the Old gives you "Small bit of Mithril Ore," which identifies as Small bit of Mithril Ore.

If you found it necessary to use sneak to get Kinlo to respond to you favorably, you will need to use sneak with Usbak the Old as well. Give Usbak the Old the Ancient Longsword and he gives you the "Refined Ancient Sword," which identifies as Sword to show Telin.

Faelin Bloodbriar appears. Give her the Refined Ancient Sword. She enchants it and returns it to you.

Faelin smiles at you, then closes her eyes as she sets the gem 'Nature's Balance' into the crossguard and begins to channel her spirit into the sword. The ground rumbles loudly as she casts. Go to the Plane of Hate and slay Innoruuk for the "Shattered Emerald of Corruption." The Shattered Emerald of Corruption is now a random/rare drop from any of the sub-boss mobs in the Plane of Hate. I have just gotten the swiftwind, and the haste effect is stunning, to say the least. I am regularly meleeing blues at this point, something difficult for most rangers to ever do toe-to-toe, with our low AC.

I am using the Swiftwind in combination with two different primary weapons; A lupine dagger and a revultant whip. The Luppy does excellent damage, being a 9/18 blade, but the greater wolf form proc is the primary reason I use it; running speed and atk bonus. Indoors and after the luppy procs, I frequently switch to the revultant whip, 5/14. This may seem strange, but with the 40% haste from the swiftwind this results in nearly 1 second melee rounds. Soloing with this combination the damage scroll never even pauses, and with my strength self-buffed to 180, I am at 1131 atk when in wolf form and using this combination ( drops to 1120 with the luppy and swiftwind). Adding a chanter haste onto the combination, I had to be quite careful in Chardok last night to keep from drawing the aggro off a well equipped level 60 warrior.

those are some very great ideas! however i have found something that works a little better for me.

First i mem spells to the situation but two spells i always mem are call of the sky and nature's precision (and wolf form if out doors).
this combination allong with my high str gives me an attack of about 1150 give or take

next haste is a percent effect so theoretically the slower the weapons delay the more haste affects it. lupine and the whip are both amazing weapons but i think with 40 haste id choose a slightly slower but more damaging weapon. its a percentage thing =)

this is just what has worked best in my experience take from it what you will =)

People say EPIC is the best @#%^ the rest... Maybe... I dunno... not there yet... but here's my idea...

A warrior made an exhaustive test and found that best combo for him at lvl 53 was wurmy+velium swift blade... (look at the Velium Swiftblade forum)

SO... what about Wurmy+Swiftwind when grouping with a chanter?

Chanter can slow the mob and haste you so that wurmy is closer to cap than ever... (don't forget the Swiftwind haste)

AND... damage on Swiftwind is way better than Velium Swiftblade...

Only possible downside I see would be the dot... but I heard sometimes the dot don't stack... and I wonder if it can be resisted easily...

If anyone disagree, show me your brain with arguments... no flame...

To those flaming, I won't take care of your worthless opinion.
#Kalenith, Posted: Mar 31 2002 at 4:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i dont even know why people use wurmy it has to be one of the worst weapons you could possibly use. if you want more damage get a centi LS or something even though that still isnt great.... dly > dmg... unless dmg is 3 or something...

I think there is some sense to your calculations however when you reach the point where your damage bonus increases in size you will get to the point where hitting faster is the real way to increase your damage.
I used wurmslayer (as a ranger) until about 45 and found it unbeatable; now that I have a lammy, I would never go back to hitting slow but my damage bonus is getting pretty good. At 30 or 35 though, a lammy would have only assured that I would miss more often.
I will say this however: I got hit a lot less wielding wurmy than I do wielding lammy which is an important consideration to a ranger. Why rangers are expected to tank levels 1-40 and then miraculously learn how to avoid agro is beyond me.
The key to weapons, I believe, is knowing when and how to use them; every weapon in the game serves a tactical purpose in terms of time/place/level (okay, maybe some of it is just loot to be sold, but I think this is mostly true); instead of complaining about how much something "sucks" or even comparing weapon a to weapon b, examine each item in the context of its usefulness.
Anyway, wurmy and swiftwind? I think that's a pretty high damage rig but I believe when you take into account the damage bonus per hit, you cannot compare to a double epic rig. I'll be honest though: I have neither of my epics at 49 so I guess I'll have to wait and parse when the time comes.

Ratio is almost everything. Your average hit with a weapon is X*DMG + Bonus. What X is I'm not sure, but it seems to be about 2 for me at 51. My 1 hand bonus is 8. So I average about 58 with a wurmslayer, with a delay of 40. If I were using a rat whip, i'd be doing 18 every 14. Lammy, 26 every 19.

The problem with the calculations is that I know very well what my max is, and I know what my most commmon hits are, but I don't actually have logs to determine an average (and I use a slasher offhand, so I can't easily parse).

Offhand, ratio is everything. Of course, offhand isn't as important, so it's better to give up ratio for stats there than in primary.

Probably best easily attainable combo in game is Wurmslayer and Centi Longsword. At high levels, replace Wurmslayer with Lamentation. Lamentation will not even come close to a Wurmslayer pre-50.

Hmm well to your last comment about the wurmy+centi and lammy+centi, I'd like to share my litte observations as a young ranger. I had a wurmy around 26-29 and a centi ls in offhand, I could be MA or MT because of my damage output. it was pretty nice hitting 60+ then 20+, even though it was slow it was enough to hold/manage agro which is great, very good combo and would reccomend to any tank 45-. now I've been using a lammy and centi ls since 30, I hit a lot faster, mostly getting double and triple for about 25-28 so I can do the damage i did with my wurmy, and the agro isn't too bad for me so the lammy+centi can work, it's just a little tricky. Lammy has nice stats for a ranger too =)

Actually pre-epic (swiftwind that is), a wurmy is a lot better on the dmg/sec ratio than a lammy until you hit lvl 55 when your dmg bonus changes to 10. (that is: if you don't have a hast item). If you have a haste item, probably the best combo you can use pre-epics and (non uber) is a lupine/centi LS.

It's all about the dmg/sec ratio.

I cannot answer your questions in full, but:

...At what level should a ranger start this quest?
I started at 46. Starting the quest is quite easy actually; you shouldn't need any assistance until you go for the Dark Corruptor in EK. We brought about 12-15 people to Karana (lvls 40-55ish) and did just fine; ran the quest over and over (served like 6 rangers that day). After that, the runecrusted bowl piece doesn't take too much other than a lot of foraging time.
Jade Reaver (CoM) is going to require some raiding I've read; I've played in CoM but not with the Reavers; I hear they're kind of nasty. The larger mobs, VS, horses on PoA, Innoruuk, I cannot comment on as I am a new lvl 49 and am really just beginning my raiding career. My guildmates tell me the hardest part about Venril Sather is collecting the troops when the time comes. I have also read that, for a God mob, Innoruuk is one of the easier ones to kill in the game.

...How long shall it take on average?
I have been working on mine for about a week now and am through the Karanas portion. However, as I said, that's the easy part. I think this is all a matter of a) how long does it take you and your guild to organize the necessary raids b) how lucky are you in getting your needed drops

...How many guild members should I have with me?
Definitely gonna depend on the group and the mob in question, but I would reccomend you take the God mobs much more seriously than the Reavers/Corruptor in Karanas.

Check out some of the spoilers, they will frequently give you good advice on who is needed for any particular part of the task.

Cannot wait to get my hands on these beautiful swords.

Haste spell effects stack.
Haste items do not. the highest one is used.

If this item gives the haste as a spell, it will add haste..if it gives haste as a weapon, then it will take the highest percentage.

i dont know how the effect...effects, but i think it is as a spell. thats just what i THINK.

If they had not put it in an expansion, they would have had to update every zone involved in the quest for new NPCs and drops, plus every zone in the game to accept the new imagery. I'd rather buy the expansion than sit through a 20hr patch, because it would be something ridiculous like that to download EVERY zone again.
