Slow mitigated with more recent mobs/expansions

All slow effects (including the RNG epic proc) are mitigated more and more with newer expansions. You will see messages like "...was mostly slowed" or "...was partially slowed".

What is nice about this weapon's effect (and the Wavecrasher's) is they add a 20 DoT component. The benefit here is that you can SEE if the slow is on a mob and often which one, unless you have multiple of the same mob name. Very useful for those groups with out the "Inspect Buffs" Leadership AA benefit.

This is excellent for moments when a slower isnt around.
Yes it produces aggro , but by using jolting blades and or jolt , this isnt much of a problem. Just melle till it procs , jolt and back off and shoot arrows. The mob is slowed and you're still fullfilling your role in the group , and then some. 50% slow is way better than no slow.

Just want to post some of my personal experience with the shattered emerald of corruption drop for this fine weapon. I spent quite awhile in Plane of Hate trying to get this thing to drop. In my time there I managed to kill almost all the named mobs that are accesable from the stairs. I had just about every epic piece that drops in hate drop, with the exception of the SEoC until last night. I found that the best chance for getting this piece is from either Magi P`Tasa at spawn point # 1 on the PoH map and from an eerie chest at spawn point # 11 on the same map. The only named mobs in Teir 1 that I did not kill when I was in Hate were Coercer T`Vala #10, Avatar of Adhorrence #9 and a hidiouse rat #12. They were just to far out from the staris to pull with my small groups.

I only saw the SEoC drop from the chest and Magi, but only was able to loot the item last night since I was the only ranger and did not need to rely on the RNG to win the item. Saw it twice off both of those in all my times in hate. So, I am guessing that these are the best chances to get this drop, just in case any rangers are suffering through hate as I did.

My groups usually consited of me as the tank, lvl 53 ranger, an enchanter (could usually charm a hate mob to help me with DPS), and either a shaman or a druid. Only died once due to Lag/LD and never had to many problems with this set up. It was slow at times but the mobs can be slowed and nuked. Good luck to the rangers of Norath. This is the map.

They don't have to, a lot of spell info can be read from the eq files, given the right software. This is a 50% slow.

Since swiftwind haste,is listed as a proc, then I would hope it would stack with other haste spells and items, but after reading the post here i dought it. As for the slow rate of the earthcaller 50% seems ok and 20 points/tick is not too bad. But I hope that after all the trouble that you must go through and all the time it takes to reserch the raids (3 if you buy the jade reaver in bazaar 4 if not) It would be nice to see the damage increase up 2 points per weapon and a 40/tick (20 point increase) with it stacking with other haste items other than spells which i was told it dose. EQ dose need to re-tweak its older quests and make up some new ones as part of there new expansions, but I'm not sure if its profitable enough to do so.

4 years on from this post, and this is still one item that any ranger can have and wield it proudly in the knowledge that even the very best rangers on the server have it saved, ready to use in their bandolier.

It's one of the most useful epic 1.0s, and I suspect it will be a long time after I stop using my epic 2.0 that I will retire my earthcaller.

You can do most of it solo since its gather and hand in, the first fight in E.Karana u can do with your 2 friends, maybe the hole fight also, but take a group jsut in case... the KC fight you can do with a good group (jsut for clairfication, imo, a good group is LDoN Hard type group) so yeah... 2 of the fights are doable with your 2 friends but bringing more is always a good thing =)

Laura is bang on with her comments given the level of your friends and that having a full grp is best for the Hole. Getting the SSoC from PoAir is of similar difficulty and a solid group can get this easily. You don't actually have to go to PoAir as this item can be MQ'd. If your guild happens to go there, let them know as I am sure they would be more than happy help you get 40% worn haste with an off-hand weapon that is decent.

Unfortunately Earthcaller is not as big a boon as Swiftwind since I am currently using Bloodstained Axe of the Catacombs in primary 15/21 vs 14/24 for Earthcaller. If you are young enough when you get it, it may be of benefit especially when soloing, but at the high end, MObs tend to resist being slowed and such so a faster higher DMG weapon is a better trade than the proc.

I have been using swarm caller when i solo, and i think that is also a 50pct slow. So the only real advantage would be the higher chance of a proc since you can duel weild this with swift, But dam i realy do wish this is a 70pct slow

But the Swarmcaller proc isn't also a 500hp DoT over two and a half minutes. So, swing Earthcaller until in procs, then switch back to Stained Axe of the Scions or better! Nice lingering effect to help your DPS and significantly cut the mob's.

earthcaller is only 50% now but I would swap it in instead of swarmcaller anyday, consider the 500 DoT and the fact that you can dual wield whatever your secondary is for added damage. not to mention the ratio. earthy procs relatively quick and at least your DPS doesn't go in the dumpster waitg for it.

He wouldn't speak to me at 44, so I used my 65 druid to trigger the quest and do up to the EK reavers. Then had my ranger loot the tomb and continue.

I waited until 46 to hand the sword in to Telin to get swifty just in case as it was a lot of work and easier just to level up a bit. It wouldn't surprise me you could do this at level 1 with the right faction and someone else to trigger the first part.

I just read further down that someone had sucessfully talked to Telin at 35. I am 36 and he considers me kindly, and he told me that I was too inexperienced. I would like to know what the genuine minumum level to start and finish both halfs of the epic. Also, I am quite bummed that the epics are falling far behind the rest of the game, and was wondering if anyone knows if Verant is planning new epics. Also, while we're on the subject, what are the best weapons for a ranger at the top of his game?

Just another quick confirmation that you do need to be at least lvl 46 for Telin to give you the note. I went to speak to him at 45 (with ally faction) and was also told that I was too inexperienced, however, at 46 I returned and was successful in obtaining the note to kick off my epic. If he doesn't appear to speak with you at max faction, try saying "What actions", even if you aren't prompted. That's how I triggered the trade to get the note. Good luck, fellow Rangers!

You have to be at least 46 to talk to Telin, but a lot of the other stuff can be done once foraging breaks 100 (101 +). You can't do final turn in until 50 or Faelin eats it, so keep that in mind.

with the new pop armor and stuff that makes kael and SS armor look like newbie gear, there are starting to be mroe and more weapons that just make epics look like garbage.i understand the illusion of this weapon with the huge slow on it, but really look at it, by the time ur high enough to get this weapon u will be grouping, when ur goruping in any high lvl place a slower is needed, and trying to rely on a weapon proc for main sourse of slowing. so what it comes down to is ratio. i would really like to see some epic quest add on, where u could some how continue the quest leading up to an upgrade for the weapons.

Minor Corrections
# Aug 24 2002 at 9:09 AM Rating: Decent
I suppose this has been modified by Verant since these posts, but a couple of corrections:

1) You can forage the items prior to Skill Level (100). I did it at around skill (65)

2) You can talk to the NPC's prior to Level 50. I did it at 46.

I need the Jade Reaver, The Hole, and PoA to complete the first, plus the stone from hate for the second. PoA we are doing in a week, the Hole we can do anytime. I can't wait, its been forever it seems. Now that I think about it I started on it 6 months ago.

Pardon me for saying so, but isn't that a little more than "almost done"? You have some planes raids ahead of you for openers. Most of the other stuff is just foraging and turn-ins.

It's been done prior to level 50: by below planes-level characters, in fact.

Originally, VI said that the epic quests were intended for 50+ players. Some of the epic quests have a level requirement, but the ranger epic does not - it's driven by faction only.

That said, I'd be very careful about the final turn-ins if my PC was < 50. You never know when VI will "fix" the quest and not tell anyone.

First of all, you dont have a choice which hand your weapons go it. Swiftwind is Offhand only, while Earthcaller is Primary only.

Also, i have been told, and have read that the haste on swiftwind is 45%, not 40%. and it also gives and ATK boost, which i have read to be +30, but when i equipped the weapon, my ATK went up 53 points, so im not so sure.

As for earthcaller, again ive read and been told, the proc is 70% slow, not 50%. as well as the 500 DoT.

nah, this is one half of the ranger epic (best weapons a ranger can wield), you usually can't even start the quest until after 45. each class has an epic weapon, wielding one usually means months of work.

at level 15, i'd just save some money and buy a decent weapon from your guild/local market (north freeport, faydark).

These haven't been the best weapons since Velious came out... Starting with Primal Velium weapons (usually 13/20 with tons of stats plus an avatar proc) and their priceless counterpart (less stats and no proc but same ratio) and working all the way up to say Tolan's Longsword of the Glade... 15/21 either hand good amount of stats 40 percent haste with attack buff. Luclin brings even better weapons, but of course it wasn't out in June 2001. There still remains much to be discovered and much that has been discovered is still not know to me... but I have seen weapons as good as 13/17 and 16/20 and have heard of even better.

Parts of the epic can be done at any level, for example looting of the stone from VS (Who is a complete pushover in his reanimated form) or buying/looting a Jade Reaver (It'd be hard to loot either of those though without the whole zone being cleared out, but with some luck it is doable. You can also forage many of the items needed starting in your 20's, as soon as your forage hits 100. I have been saving that chilled tundra root(Everfrost) for about 25 levels now (I'm 51).

No, the quest which results in these 2 wonderful swords, can only be done by level 46+ rangers. Some of the pieces to each particle weapon/epic come from the Planes of Hate, Sky, or Fear. The minimum level to get into these zones to even loot the piece is level 46. Many mobs require even higher levels to take down, but if you have a strong guild to help you out or a guild with several strong allies, you can usually get the weapons a little earlier than normal.

Technically, you don't have to go to PoH or PoA for this. Both those pieces are multiquestable. PoF has no part in the epic at all. So it's conceivable that you could get all your pieces together at a lower level. I don't know if you could turn them in though.

I didn't start until I was past 50, but I belive the npcs will only respond to you if you are 50+.

If I see a lvl 15 ranger running around with epics im gonna retire and open up the first strip club in Ecoms.

Better get ready to retire. At least one level 6 Ranger on one server has completed the epics. Naturally, all the difficult parts were MQed or given from a guild bank.

Yeah Quit makin statements like that unless you have the information and can back it up with a name.

Your full of sh*t though since Kinlo will not talk to you nor will Telin Dark Forest until you are level 50+ last time I checked unless they changed it.

Wow, that is odd, didn't think some of the quest NPCs would even respond to you until at least 46+ (about the epic anyway), but I could be wrong of course. I sure would like to get the name of the level 6 (or so) that had it MQed (the planes pieces etc), so I could make a character on that server and see for myself.

None of these things are true. I started working on my epic at 35 when I went to speak with Telin. He will NOT talk to you if you have screwed your faction with him some. At 35 I had gotten the note from Telin, found the druid in Grater Fay, Gave the ring to the dark elf in Kith (I had sow up, shouted that I was about to spawn a reaver, handed him the ring and ran like mad for the zone)

I did every possible part I could up to the corrupter which I did at 40 with the aid of a guild that had just done it for their ranger.

So to clear things up some, yes many parts of the epic can be done well before 46.

Just to make this clear

Swiftwind has the effect 40% haste, this is a item haste so it will no stack with fbss etc.

Earthcaller has a 50% slow and 500dot.

The damage output with these weapons is beyond impressive.

They rock.

100% agreement here on that these weapons are devastating on damage output.

almost seems as though the slow effect is more than 50% to me anyways, cause without the proc near the beginning of the fight the amount of damage i take through a fights end is way more than double what I take than if It procs in the first swing. Could just happen to be the diference in the mobs, but it seems consistant over the 20 or so HGs i have tested this against. Maybe the 500 point proc damage is really a significant amount to an HGs hps?

About my only complaints so far are:

1) that swiftwind is off hand and earthcaller, the less damaging of the two is main hand.
2) That when I am in a group with a shaman, my proc won't land and cause damage!!! I do not specifically want, although it would be nice for the slow to stack with the shaman debuff
but the DOT part of the attack should stack with any other DOTs. THIS IS AN EPIC and its effects should be especially
unresistable and stackable with pretty much anything...

3) PROC RESISTANCES. It is really disheartening to be attacking an ORC level 15!!!! OMG and first swing is "earthcall has been resisted by an orc" and I'm not kidding, a level 15 or less mob resisted my EPIC weapons procs, its like OMG how lame can it get?

In sebilis it is resisted about 4 in 7 times ove the course of 47 seb golems and frogs... so unless the proc level changes, this effect gets less and less powerful as the mobs get more and more deadly...

thats about it (: all the info I have gathered so far anyways on my new epics...

it isn't the mobs lvl that causes the resist, usually it's the magic resistance. read the effect and it'll tell you the check for resist is MR. it IS 50% slow and the haste isn't a proc but always on while being wielded for 40%. Completing the ranger epic is easier than getting to sleepers tomb for the primal and priceless weapons so until you are lvl 60 the ranger epics are likley to be the best you will see. if you are grouped with a shaman or enchanter who will overwrite your epic haste you can always switch to a diff weapon if you get a ornate sword of the general(or similarly badarse wep) and still do mad/fast damage.
Procs
# Jun 12 2001 at 10:47 AM Rating: Default
The ranger epics are better than the warriors'. I can get a handful to tell you so. The proc of Earthcall is like 20% or more speed reduction. Swiftwind procs like 20% haste. These figures may be even more i can remember, i think swft is also ATK buff and earthcall general debuff, though not sure. procs at 50.
Just curious.

Those of you that already have this is this the weapon you prefer in your primary hand? While it is lower on the dammage rato list it would actually do better average dammage im thinking, riposte for more, make you fatigued less quickly, and haste would impove this things rato more then it would swiftwind. Also I could have sworn that I read some where that one of our weapons speed us up, and the other slowed the mob down?

Actually, I would keep this in primary. The hastes still work in the offhand, but this has to proc. Putting it in primary gives it a better chance of achieveing this. At higher lvls, stamina isn't that big of a deal for rangers, as they get fatigue reducing spells. Honestly, I wish that the weapons had same delays, as having the same delay on weapons increases the chance for a quad hit.
RE: Just curious.
# Aug 14 2001 at 7:25 PM Rating: Default
Getting a quad is bad. You're better off with your attacks scattered. Why? Because you have a better chance of interrupting a cast the more often you hit. Of course, by the time you have this, anything you are fighting will pretty much ignore damage when casting, but still, you have a chance at least.

Earthcall is NOT a DoT/Root combo. It is a DoT/Slow combo. It is a 40-50% (approx) melee slow spell, with a 500 pt DoT attached to it. By the time you get the swords, the shamans and enchanters will have better slow spells than this, but it is still very nice to have when soloing. Lasts about 1-1.5 minutes, I've never timed it to be sure.

QUEST WALKTHROUGH [COMPLETE VERSION]
This is the most complete version of the faq. It as full spoilers and complete details on every segment of the quest. If you find this walkthough to be missing anything, please contact me by email [<crydee@monsterweb.org>.]
Although it is possible to do portions of the quest out of order, this walkthrough assumes that you complete each part before moving on to the next section. Just in case you have done portions of the quest out of order, I have made note of what items you would have if you have been doing the quest in the exact order listed here and which of those are required to complete that part of the quest.
NOTE: If at any point in the quest you need to use sneak to deal with an NPC, you will need to use sneak again at all later encounters. Although I will suggest using sneak the during the first encounter with a potentially problematic NPC, you will need to remember to use it again for later encounters. This mostly concerns Kinlo Strongarm and Mairee Silentone.

Part 1: Obtain the Shiny Tin Bowl

Telin Darkforest in Burning Woods, Kunark
Telin Darkforest can be found near the zone to Skyfire Mountains. The easiest way to find him is to head to the North East part of the zone, towards Skyfire, and you should eventually pick him up on tracking.
You say, 'hail Telin Darkforest'
Telin Darkforest looks at you serenely. 'Hello, wanderer.'
You say, 'what are you doing in this forest'
Telin Darkforest says 'Mighty this place must have been, once. Now scarred by hatred and suffering. I have been sent here seeking answers to problems not yet understood.
You say, 'what answers'
Telin Darkforest considers you for a few moments before speaking. 'A great evil walks across the land. The hand of some demon we don't yet know is twisting and polluting forests.'
You say, 'what evil'
Telin Darkforest says 'If I knew that, I wouldnt be here looking for answers. I would be elsewhere, looking for solutions. For now, I suspect much but know little.
You say, 'what do you suspect'
Telin Darkforest looks at you and sighs. 'The lands are changing. Beasts, large and small, have turned upon those who watched over them. Druids and rangers, worshippers of both Karana and Tunare, have reported a feeling of hatred throughout their once peaceful lands.'
You say, 'perhaps it is Innoruuk'
Telin Darkforest raises his eyebrow slightly and a subtle look of surprise creeps across his face. 'Innoruuk? Perhaps. Aye. It must be. Perhaps I knew and didn't want to consider the possibility. It must be this though, and some action will have to be taken.'
You say, 'what action should I take'
Telin Darkforest looks at you consideringly and then scribbles something quickly on a small, worn paper. 'You seem powerful enough. Perhaps you can help those who seek to protect nature's peace. Take this note. Deliver it only into the hands of Faelin Bloodbriar. Where you will find her, I cannot say. She is a friend of mine and a wanderer. She has been seen from one end of the lands to the other. Seek her out, and quickly.'

Once you see either Faelin or an orc pawn spawn, you can procede to camp just that spot and not worry about additional orcs.
Give Telin’s note to Faelin
Faelin Bloodbriar reads the note carefully and growls to herself. 'Bad news, eh? Take this ring. There is one elf, dark elf even, who we must go to in order to gather insight into Innoruuk's plans. Giz X'Tin, he goes by most commonly. Kithicor seems to be his favorite haunt and most likely you will find him there. Don't ask how I know him. Just take the ring as my sign to him and he will speak to you. We don't need to speak again, so dont seek me out, just goto Telin. I must leave to investigate these events.'

Giz X'Tin is a wandering spawn that has been mostly seen towards the north end of the zone. He said to spawn around POS 1000, POS 1500. It is known that he does wander the zone. I have seen hin on track durning the day and night time. The easiest way that I have found to find him is to run along the way between West Commons and Rivervale. If he is up, you will most likely pick him up on tracking. Most likely your faction with Giz X'Tin will not be high enough, cast Spirit of Wolf on yourself, run up behind him and sneak before you give him Faelin's Ring.
Give Faelin’s Ring to Giz X'Tin
Giz X`Tin flips you a coin after he recognizes the ring. 'It seems we have a mutual 'acquaintance.' The coin repays an old debt. You don't have to worry about what that is. Luckily, Lord Innoruuk has informed me of your coming and your desires. Fortunately, I have all the answers you require right here at the end of my friend's blade. Give coin to Telin
Telin Darkforest scratches the coin as he looks at it. 'Faelin sent you to Giz? Surprising. This coin speaks to the outcome of your talk. He would hardly give this bit of metal to a stranger, but that's a story for a different time. So, you say Giz did confirm Innoruuk's involvement, and something about undead minions? Althele can be found close to the Barbarian Village around NEG 3650, NEG 1600. Tholris and Fang should also be there with her. If you see any of the other druids with her, do not give her the coin right away. First check to see if someone is currently in the process of doing this part of the quest. If this is the case, just wait for them to finish up. Althele, Tholris and Fang all respawn thirty minutes after all the druids have been despawned. The other possibility, is that someone had tried to do this part of the quest, failed and the spawn is messed up. If this is the case, you may have to wait for the server till after the server goes down again to be able to the quest.

Nuien gives the "Frayed Braided Grass Amulet" back to you, and Teloa spawns near the waterfall around NEG 3800, NEG 2860.
Give amulet to Teloa
Teloa begins walking toward the gathering spot. 'Follow me to the gathering now.'
Follow Teloa back to where Althele is, which is where the druids are gathering. You will not have the amulet at this point as she does not return it to you.
Althele says 'Great mother of life and father of sky, growth and spirit, Tunare and Karana. Innoruuk once again schemes and we have failed in our duties to protect our land. We give our powers in sacrifice for your help. Heed our call and send us your wisdom.
Althele snaps her head towards you. 'Innoruuk's brood is upon us. Go, find the spawn of hatred before they reach this point and destroy them!'
Dark Elf Corruptor and several Dark Reavers spawn, level supposed to be 50ish. Only the Corruptor is said to have to be killed. It is recommended that you root him, so he does not despawn on you. Additionally, it has been mentioned that he cannot be pulled, so you have to rush in and attack him.
Dark Elf Corruptor shouts 'We come for you, fools. Your reign of weakness over the powers of the land comes to an end now!
The easist way to do this is to have two group of people waiting on the hill. The first group will attack the Dark Elf Corruptor immediately. The second group will kite the Dark Elf Reavers to keep them distracted until the Corruptor has been killed. Even though you will miss most [or all] of the fighting, you should be one of the people in the group killing the Corruptor just so that you will be able to loot his corpse right away and get the "Fleshbound Tomb."
Once the Dark Elf Corruptor is killed, the group killing the Corruptor will take out the reavers. Even though some advocate killing the corruptor and letting the reavers get the druids. I don't recommend this for several reasons. First off, it is not within the theme of the quest to let the druids get killed. Secondly, it is more time productive to kill the reavers also then turn in the Felshbound Tomb to Althele right away.

'Thus is the link of hate broken between Innoruuk and the spirit of earth. Through your will has balance returned. Your deeds, your work for the good of all, will be remembered by anyone who walks beneath the canopy of a forest or roams the plains. Continue your vigil over nature's balance.'

Well now that they've moved the shattered emerald of corruption...anyone know where it is now?
Also, VS no longer drops the pulsing green stone, but when you kill him his remains spawn and ask for a fire of some sort..anyone know?

i know about how to get both, you give the remains a firefly globe, summoned by the lvl 15 dance of the fireflies spell, and a weaker VS spawns and drops only 2 stones. and the emerald in PoH has been moved to the new MOBs which have all of inny's old loot. making the quest much easier to do. i like the new changes.... i think its the verix remains you give the globe to... but not 100% sure since i havent tried yet, i will post when i go to KC and try that part

Actually you have it half right, when you hand the remains the firefly globe, it spawns the Spirit of Venril Sathir. You need to hand this mob the level 49 cleric spell Ressurect. He will despawn then and will spawn a new version of Venril Sathir, which is not a caster and is much easier to kill.

Since there are two and they refer to each as "one of the possible results" do you have to do the epic twice?

Yes, the result of the Epic quest is the Swiftwind. This one is just one of the last steps. If you want to keep it you need to finish the quest and get your Swiftwind then start the quest over until you get the Earthcaller.

I think its cool that rangers get two epic weapons, not one like everyone else, I also think it's not fare because I have two other characters that aren't rangers
Because...

The only melee characters who can dual weild are warriors, rangers, monks, rogues, and bards. Shadowknights and Paladins would find two 1h weapons useless. Rogues and Bards play major roles in alternate damage dealing techniques, protection, etc. Rangers and Warriors, the only classes with at least two particle weapons, have no other _major_ damage dealing options than using weapons. Monks are supposed to use their hands, which is why their's is gauntlets.
Paladins and Shadowknights get 2h weapons because that's how they typically deal the most damage.
