Just on the other side of the EC zone, nearby the sand area I found quite afew willowisps and their respawn time was pretty decent. 9 out of 10 times they dropped the burned out lightstone needed for the journeyman beta research runes

Good luck

Erud's Crossing has the most wisps/square foot easily in EQ. This has become my favorite hunting ground for finding Burned Out Lightstones, which are used for Journeyman's Research practice runes (B). There always seems to be one wisp around on that little island, and when you first get to the island, before you've had time to weed them out, there are usually about four of them. They spawn back pretty quickly too, so there is not much waiting around before you see another. Also a great place for LS and GLS if that's what you are after.

As of about July 2003, the land mobs in Erud's Crossing only spawn at night now. Even then, they don't always spawn. Erud's Crossing is a good hunting ground for wisps, kerra spiders, skeletons, and (underwater) zombies, though, when they DO spawn.

Previously mentioned location near Oogla the ogre and the sunken ship on north end of island is spawn point, I agree.

I agree about Erud's Crossing. I went there to collect these for spell research. In about 2 hours, I collected about 35 burned out lightstones. I also kept selling the regular and the greater lightstones as I collected them. I easily made over 50pp in this 2 hours just from those. Look for the rock/statue with the ogre standing next to it. This seemed to be the most common spawn point, but they do spawn elsewhere. The spawn time is quick. You can usually find 5-6 wisps every 10 minutes, and every one has one of the 3 variations of lightstone. The regular lightstone sell for just under 1pp and the greater stones sell for over 4pp.

I know a burned out lightstone is needed for Druid Newbie armor Quest. Problem is, in Kelethin, it seems when that becomes one of the few items remaining to be hunted ( they con red for a long, long, time)the Will o wisps that drop them mysteriously become very scarce. I don't think the playing field is very even
Now NORENT

I also thought lore items meant that you couldn't sell them but I sold mine for a copper. I got it off a lesser mummy in WC. Couldn't find a use for it and I'm a wood elf so don't need a lightsource.
Pratice Runes
# Jul 15 2001 at 1:32 PM Rating: Decent
They are used to make practice runes, as previously stated. This raises your research skill and can be done by all pure casters. ;)

Some are LORE, some are not.
# Mar 07 2001 at 3:37 PM Rating: Default
Per earlier discussion, only some of them are "LORE" items - you need to look at the one you loot. For example, look at the one pictured above, it's not a LORE item and you can keep several in your possession if you want (from personal experience, I've had half a dozen of these before I finally destroyed them). On that note - the question still remains, what are the Burned-out Light Stones used for?! Is there a quest or a NPC that you give them to?
Burned Out Lightston
# Feb 05 2001 at 3:40 AM Rating: Default
If this item is lore item and no drop wouldn't that indicate that it is used in some sort of quest? Any ideas?!

RE: Burned Out Lightston
# Feb 22 2001 at 12:06 AM Rating: Default
Actually, LORE means you can only have one of them. You can destroy them and they do go away after you log out (the NO RENT bit)
RE: Burned Out Lightston
# Mar 07 2001 at 1:41 PM Rating: Default
Oddly enough I thought lore meant you could not have more than one also, however, I just picked up three of these. I am also wondering if there is a quest involving these. Someone in E Commonlands on Fenin Ro shout that there was, but had no info on the quest.

Oh well, eh!

These are used by wizards in creating practice runes which they use to increase their research skill. Other than this I have no ideah what they are used for.
