Sure enough.
Yes they drop off in the basement - but WAY DOWN, you have to find the PIT and go down the pit to get one. The excavators that are not in the pit will not drop one.
Confirmed. You *must* hunt in the basement of Kurn's, which is a little tricky to find unless you've hunted in Kurn's a lot. Basically, keep taking stairs down until you find a long drop into a pit, which takes you to the basement. Pretty much all of the burynai down there can drop the claws. Greater than 50% drop rate. There is also a zone out to FoB not far from the basement area.
You will not find the claws in FoB or in any other part of Kurn's.

How's this tricky? In Kurn's, Walk through the main hall, and turn right at the back. Take the stairs down, and open the door. You're in the basement. There were about 10 spawns up, I got it on #6. Easy Peasy.

That isn't the area they were talking about. I don't know how to explain it to you but there is a pit fall in at least one area. If you drop down the pit you will find the higher level monsters in the zone down in that pit area. There is also a way to zone out to field of bone from the pit.

Had a collector's excavator claw drop off a Burynai sapper today.

The spot that it does drop that I know of is in Kurns Basement off the Burynai Excavators now it doesn't drop off every mob that there is but unlike some zones the number of mobs is not reduced to almost only drop mobs

I am confused it says that the Burynai is in Frontier mountain? but they are in FoB and Kurns and I couldnt find them in FM if so where is this right?
There are burynai in the Frontier Mountains but the Collector's Excavator Claw doesn't drop there.
There seems to be only one drop per zone for the quest and the drop you need from FM is the Collector's Tump Stump from the Mountain Giant Tumps.
To get the proper claw you have to hunt the burynai in the lower levels of Kurn's Tower.

I killed many in Kurns basement, and got no drops, but when I jumped into pit to get to tunnels, I got it on first kill, and again on second and third kill. Tunnel is the place it drops.
Seemed to be a much more common drop in Kurn's rather then FoB.
