If MQ'ing this for an alt I can confirm level 35 req. (1-27-2013)
Tried at 25 and 30, Baldric simply handed me back top of pg24.

No problems handing T-pg24, logging to main for 25, then back in to finish B-pg24 and Lute.
Iconic but outdated

It's a real shame that this is replaced by Defiant gear as you level, I was the happiest Bard in the game when I got mine all those years ago, but it's just sat in a backpack now :(

MQd the final turn-in to Baldric to my level 35 bard today! When I tried at level 17 he gave the page back.

Turned top of page 24 in on my bard.
Logged SK, turned in bottom of page 24, and page 25.
Logged back to bard, turned in Mystical Lute, got Singing Short Sword.

I can confirm bard epic you gotta be 51 to complete, you can do it all the way up to the dragonscales turn in then you will just get your items back or eaten if your not 51... Yes some epics you can finish earlier and even equip, but you cant use the clicks till your 51, the cleric epic 1.0 is a good example of that, you can do it at level 1 but it wont click till your 51.. then some just plain wont let you move on till your of level or you cant pass a certain point till your 51. Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion

There has been a recent rumor that you cannot finish any epic quest until you are level 51. Is there any truth to this? or is it just something ppl make up so they dont have to compete against alts who have higher level help?

you can most definatly finish epic before lvl 51, i know because i just recently finished my mages epic 1.0 at lever 47, and previously i finished my druids 1.0 not 2 minutes after she leveled 46. but i have found it impossible to finish before then, the quest mobs seem to ignore you. and tell you to go kill some rats or something.

I dont get how people jsut assume that you have to be lvl 50. You can finish cleric epic lvl 49. Other epics you can be lvl 46. Like beastlord epic (i think). people say that the NPC wont talk to you until your lvl 51. well I started my clerics epic at lvl 40 and they all talked to me. So dont listen to what anyone says you can do your epics at various level. It just depends on what zones you have to go to (like required lvl 46 to enter zones) and if some NPCs will talk to you before a certain level. If the NPCs will talk to you at any level and you only have to go to zones with no required level to enter than you could do your epic when you are level 1. You would need some help at every step but you could still do it any level.

Old post, however on my level 24 warrior i have every single piece, minus the spiroc wingblade. On my shaman, i started the epic at level 20 or so, but died every time i went in the water from drowning or a shark ate me. I can vouch that if you have the cash and people to MQ the items, you can get the entire epic before 51 or 50 (atleast on the warrior one)

sorry for bringing up a semi-dead topic.

Haste explained
# Sep 19 2004 at 4:37 PM Rating: Excellent
49 posts
Haste v1 is Item-based
Haste v2 is Spell-based
Haste v3 is Song-only (AKA over-haste)

The haste % of v1 is added to the % of a v2 effect and a v3 effect. However, if there are two or more effects of the same haste version (v1 for example), only the best haste % of the two effects for that haste version is used.

The total haste % of v1 and v2 combined cannot exceed the hard cap %, based on the player's level. However, v3 is not subject to the cap, and is added to the total haste AFTER the total for v1 and V2 are calculated.

Most bard songs, like Song of Celerity, are Haste v2 (spell haste), and thus their haste component only applies if it is greater than the haste % of any other V2 effects on the player. Any non-haste effects of the song will still stack with any other effects on the player, even if there is a better Haste v2 effect on the player.

Songs like Battlecry of the Vah Shir, however, are haste v3, and thus will stack with spell haste and item haste.

The proc from the Bard Epic weapon is Haste v2, and thus it's haste % will stack with v1 and v3. Keep in mind that even if the player already has a better haste % from another v2 effect, the ATK and STR boosts from the epic proc still stack with any and all other effects on the player.

To Clarify:
V1 is actually spell type haste, equivalent to those cast by chanters and shaman.
V2 is stacking but NON-cap breaking haste
V3 is stacking and Cap breaking haste.

Worn+V1+V2 all stack, but cannot exceed the haste cap at a given level.

Worn+V1+V2+V3 will all stack, but only the v3 haste can push the total past the cap.

edited to add further explanation.

epic is haste v1. You are mixing the group cast with the haste. There are only 2 v2 hastes. Melody of Ervaj, and Composition of Ervaj. Don't bother twisting v2...
RE: Haste explained
# Sep 24 2005 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent
I know that this is kinda an old post but the above poster is dead wrong. The effect proc from the epic is normal spell haste - the overhastes are the ervaj and vah shir/rizlona's line. The Vah Shir/ Rizlona's line is the cap breaker, the Ervaj line is not.

Epic haste = Spell Haste?
Sung Haste = Song Haste?
Item Haste = Item Haste?

What is Difference between song haste for eg.
Battle cry of the Vah shir = 15% increaste.
Villias Choruse of Celerity = 45% increase.

Now how on earth do you work out, what haste is, if there are two different types of haste? What would happen if you twisted both of those songs??

Also Composers BP, Warsong of zek, is that Spell haste?
Also Lute of Howler, is that spell haste?

Let me spell it out simply for you:

~If pre 60 with epic and no chanter: Lute of the howler will do nothing for spell haste as epic proc is 55%, str/atk/illusion WILL stack (string mod will override epic however as epic is 1.8 mod and LoTH is 2.2 mod). Sing Warsong of Var shir or Battlecry of the Vah Shir for overhaste as chorus of celerity and rousing rondo won't stack with epic.
You also get haste for 1 item.

~If Pre 60 with epic and chanter/shaman: LoTH can be used for illusion/atk/str/string mod, epic for str/atk/song mod chanter/shaman haste will overide. For Song haste sing Warsong of Vah Shir or Battlecry of the Vah Shir for overhaste, Rousing rondo for dmg shield (haste won't stack) Plus 1 item

~If Pre 60 without epic or haster: LoTH for haste, chorus of celerity if grouped, rousing rondo if soloing, Warsong of Vah Shir or Battlecry of the Vah Shir + 1 item.

~Composer's Chestplate is click Warsong of Zek; 62 group 60% str/atk/dmgshield. Haste is not overhaste so sing 64 Rizlonla's Call or Flame or 65 Call of Muse for 30% overhaste. Warsong of Zek's stats and dmg shield stack with shaman/ranger/druid/beastlord buffs and druid/mage dmg shields however.

Ok, lets make it easy. Forget any and all notions of "song haste" you may have ever heard. There are two 3 kinds of haste. Item haste, song/spell haste, and stacking haste. Item and song/spell haste stakc with each other. Multiple item hastes do not stack. The highest item haste you have takes prominence. The same goes for song/spell haste, the highest haste percentage overrides any others. Then there is stacking haste, stuff like Rizlona's and Battlecry of the Vah Shir. They stack with Item and other song/spell haste, but not with other battlecry/rizlona's haste. This stacking haste is also sometimes called Haste v3.

Just for all those wondering, you can skip the head of the lute and do it last. I had the components for the body, while I was still missing the Amygdalan Tentacle for the head. I tried my luck and was awarded the body without having done the head. So now I am able to spawn Trakanon with the undead bard. I will still need to do the head part to finish the quest. But it is easier to have 1 Mystical Lute Body, then to have 1 Red Dragon Scale, 1 White Dragon Scale, and 1 Metal Bits. Less of a chance of deleting the body. Just FYI.
#Teasar, Posted: Sep 28 2003 at 9:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think I am like most players that love bards when they in a group, but hate to be around bards that are solo'ing. Drum kited mobs aren't strongly argo'd to the bard kiting them untill they(mobs) are starting to get low on hp. If the mob gets to close to another player, it peels off and attacks the bystander.

This epic has been somewhat upgraded by Songblade of the Eternal, although the songblade does not act as all instruments, only modifies singing, and you'd have to be in a very high end and elemental capable guild to enter the Plane of Time for this weapon. However, the effect of the songblade is a definite upgrade to the Singing Short Sword, since it can be manually triggered.

Ok, I was looking around on some eq sites yesterday for pics of bards with the epic, and I found this. http://eq.crgaming.com/epics/bard.asp
If you go to that link, and look at the picture, you will see a bard dual wielding TWO epic weps. Was this pic doctored? Or is it actually possible to get two epics? I thought the epic was lore.

Lot of monks probably hold onto their epics until Time or maybe Elemental gloves. Clicky self haste is always handy, though in most raid/group situations you'll have some better haste these days.

I'm bard of 63 seasons, and just a little overfiew for you, in saying bard epic is bad
Epic is the only instrament for singing, and stacks with amplification
It also allows you to use the annoying *must have a instrament songs like occlusion, and the new harmony of sound, making them usefull

Third, epic is 20 percent, which is the same as troubs mace, gem inlade weapon for all instraments. This is abov e store bought, as they are 0 percent
4 resists... level 63 resist song is singing.. which means singing boost is more resists.. and this song does all resists, so unless you can puretone on every mob you want resists on, along with amplifications, you can get over 250+ to all resists with epic... This in itself blows damage away, as you save cleric mana

final note.. to the monk, at 63, i can out damage a 63 monk, without even meleeing, meleeing and dots, with epic, you have no chance.. and guess what, you still get to tank the mob :) 4dots = 75dps, then add melee dps, and dont' forget the bard 55haste proc, and 30atk... need not sing haste, with it.

Granted i wouldn't duel a monk, hp and mitigation is different, but throughput of damage, a bard is higher.

I was grouped in DL yesterday with this mage who had a 65 bard. She said she used Primal Spear and something called Tunare's Hair, and epic when she felt like it. "When you FEEL like it?" I asked, "Epic is awesome!" She continued to say that dmg/dly on epic sucks. My pride was injured greatly, I have always wanted the epic, assuming it was and is the best bard weapon available. Later, while thinking about what the mage said, I remembered the proc on the epic. I wonder what the haste on the epic brings the dmg/dly ratio to. Also, are there really bard weps better than the epic?

Some of the upper planar loot looks much better than epic, imo. But for a majority of bards this will be one weapon not soon tossed aside.

Granted the damage ratio isn't great, but the song bonuses and effect more than make up for it.

This should definately be on your wish list for any upper level bard.
RE: ???

Not in my opinion. The true strength of the epic lies in the instrument bonuses. Besides, it is by far the best looking of the epics in my, slightly biased, opinion. :)

According to Reeds Song Analysis, it does 1.8 to all instrument based songs (versus just sung) and something like 80% to Voice based songs (what the Luclin-era song Amplification does too).

actually... Amplification's % varies by level. at 65 it does +100%... when you first get it I believe it does +30%. http://www.dotnetdiva.com/EQ/Song.aspx?SongID=2603&ForumID=49

This is one of the epics that imo will remain useful for quite some time, mainly do to the fact that it works as every instrument. Meaning that it increases the effects of songs as if you were holding an instrument when playing them. Not to mention the nice stats, decent dmy/dly, and nice effect.

That, and ours can be used as an offhand weapon, too... put a low-delay weapon in Primary & have a 16 dmg weapon offhand, not a bad deal ;)

Rogues are the only other dual wielding class whose epic can be used offhand (Rangers, Warriors and Beastlords get both Primary and Secondary, so they don't really count :P), though I'd imagine theirs would be used in Primary for quite a while. ;)

#futen, Posted: Nov 18 2002 at 1:54 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There is no proc.... the effect makes it act as every instrument, with (I believe) either a 13% or 18% modifier. It's true power lies in that you can sing songs that require an instrument to play, while still slashing away. But I dont play a bard, so I could be wrong on some of these points.
RE: the proc
# May 05 2003 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
Futen - You don't play a bard and you're wrong on every point. Got mine yesterday. The proc kicks off multiple times per fight and lasts till the next fight, even when you have a bit of downtime. My DPS went up 40%. My own haste is 22% from SCHW and this proc adds 55%, plus 15% for Battlecry of Vah Shir. I'm getting 1200 DPM vs. 750 with Troub Mace and BoH. The attack bonus is great too.

With this proc, I don't have to tell my melee groupies to get a chanter haste. Mine costs no mana, adds attack and STR and doesn't cost anyone a spell slot. Get de-buffed? No prob, its back up momentarily. It will take them up and over the haste cap with average haste item and stacking bard haste.

Additionally, I can add a groupwide DS of 50, with SS bracer, Amp, Rondo.

So, melee buffs, DS, a nice ratio, more HP, and no need to equip specific instruments anymore (OOS, invis, etc) make this an excellent epic weapon. You just have to kill Gore, Trak, Naggie, Eldrig, Nezekezena, Blackwing, Maligar, Phinigel, most of Plane of Fear, Quag, and a cast of thousands.

I'm not positive on this note, but i think the shammy/chanter haste will indeed stack with dance of the blade, just the higher haste will overwrite the lower haste; you'll still get the 30str/atk from DotB though

for example, if you got speed of vallon cast on you (68% haste, 52agi, 33dex, 41agi) and DotB procs (55% haste and 30str/atk), then you'd end up with 68% haste from SoV, and the stats from both effects would stack

There was a post a short while ago about how to get the gut strings. They are not dropped by the normal Trak'anon anymore. The Trak'anon clone is a triggered spawn and always dropds the gut strings. Apparently, after Trak is killed, and Undead Bard is spawned about 18 (+/- 4 hrs). Give the Undead Bard the body of the lute, and he gives it back and becomes enraged. Kill him and the Trak clone (simply called Trak'anon) spawns. Finally destroy him for the gut strings.
Hope this helps.

I'm having trouble understanding what you meant in this sentence...

"Apparently, after Trak is killed, and Undead Bard is spawned about 18 (+/- 4 hrs)."

Does that mean the bard is level 18... and spawns 4 hours before or after Trak is? Does it mean he spawned 18 hours (give or take 4) after Trak died? I'm not making fun, I Really want to know and I don't understand what you said.

Any Info would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Actually Trak and UDB are on different timers.... If UDB is up when Trak spawns, or if the UDB spawns while Trak is up then the UDB is eaten immediately by Trak.... so its safe to assume that within the next 18hours +-4 hours, the UDB will be up as Trak is on a longer spawn timer. I have known the UDB to spawn very quickly after Trak is killed.. just depends when he/trak was last killed.

Hehe, you angered a lot of people with that post ;)

Anyhow, best way to understand your question is to look at it this way...

Ignore all the stats and procs etc. and focus on your question....the ratio. Actually the answer is dual weild.

Shadowknight can only use 1 weapon, so all their weapons (same for pallys) have a much better ratio than weapons warriors, rogues, bards, and other dual weild classes can get at the same lvl.

Off the top of my head I'll refer you to the Noct Blade, and the Mace of the Shadowed Soul. Both of which are mid lvl Kunark weapons that are very nice, especially compared to other weapons of that era that are attainable at that lvl by dual wielders.

Even better, take a look at the High end NToV or PoP weapons. Many of the easily attainable 1h weapons for SKs and pallys are higher DMG than Delay. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single warrior 1h weapon that can say the same, especially when talking first tier planes / NToV.

Yes Noct Blade is better damage delay but wtf are you smoking? 100hp resists and the proc and the all instruments being played? for a 60 monk you sure are a noob, not knowing that bards ARE NOT meant for all out damage, they dont even getting friggin *double attack* until PoP AAs. they are meant to play the songs for the benefit of the group so guess what? this is a kickass bard weapon.

"isn't this ratio worse than a noct blade? the bard EPIC the friggin epic is 16,26 and a noct blade is 18,26. so unless as i read up there this is a 50% haste this thing SUX"

now i'm sure that with all your expertise in being BOTH a high lvl shadowknight and a high lvl bard your comparing of the weapons had to be fair but lets take another look.. first... effect on the bard epic, none on noct; str sta cha hp mana and saves on bard epic.... along with the same dex as the noct, and oh wait, the noct has none of those. but does have intelligence... which as everyone knows is SOOO necessary for a bard *drueling with sarcasm*. now with that said, both of these weapons are designed with 1 class in mind. noct for shadowknights, bard epic well, for bards. to cut this short, think before you post next time and remember that a 28 monk can't use any of these weapons (which both happen to have a better ratio than your fists until you're about double your lvl by the way).

I think the people that rate most of these posts are morons that do not have a bard.. INT is important to a bard.. if you are a bard that likes to swarm kite.. you need a mana pool.. and sinces bards mana regen sucks so bad you should also invest in an earring of solstice and you rarchetype AA's should first be put into Mental Clarity..
Now.. this epic is probably the only epic left that is used close to 100% of the time.. The cleric epic is really only used for the click stick effect.. sure it is nice.. but if your guild gets you the epic.. it is most likely that you are only going to use it for quick mana free rezzes.. Now.. the epic over all.. think about it.. the STR on it is not really needed except on raids.. that is if you are a kiting bard like myself. Now the Sta is always nice.. we know this due to hps.. the Dex is great for a bard overall no matter what type of bard you are.. If you swarm kite it is nice to not miss a note and use mana when charm/swarm kiting. The CHA also.. the more CHA the less resists from mobs when charming. The hit points are always a good thing as stated before.. and the Resists on this thing is great.
If you are looking at the epic's dmg/dly then you are obviously a moron.. it's all about the stats.. think about it.. what if stats were like 10/15.. sure it sounds great.. but if you have low hps...resists.. etc.. then you will die and never get to many hits in.. SO in essence.. the stats are what makes items rock. Like the jade mace.. it used to be ab uber item preluclin.. I remember it selling for 22k along with the lammy.. But what was better Jade mace or lammy? Of course the lammy.. the stats took up for the 1 dly extra on it.. So think about it before you post.. if you aren't a bard then you don't realize how important INT..CHA>.and DEX is for a bard.. Definetly the three most important stats for a bard.. Well I hope this settles it for you all..
THanks

I personally play a ranger but i dont think that bards suck or rule. i think that any class can rule dependant upon the player. In my opinoin it matters more whether a person enjoys playing the game than what class/race combo works the best. i have grouped with really bad bard who didnt have a clue and i have grouped with bards who were really good at what they do. Same for every other class in the game.

The effect/proc Dance of the Blades is a haste buff that I think is 55% haste. I believe there is a str component as well.

The more important part of the weapon is that it also acts like an instrument. This allows the bard to melee and get full or near full song effects as if they had an instrument equipped. It also increases some of the songs that use the singing skill. Stats on Verses of Victory go up and the damage our DS's do also increase with this weapon. It does not affect our haste or our DD songs but I think it might increase the slow songs. This is an incrediable weapon for a bard. It will make a bard and his group much more powerful. It is probably the epic that adds the most to the character who gets it in terms of increasing their raw power.

answers to a few questions

This weapon is a gray blade with a red jem in the hilt, the finger guard thingy looks like wings on opposite side. Blue notes swirl up and down the blade at all times.

It only works as an instrument in your primary slot

if you turn in the wrong stuff to the undead bard just turn in what you left out directly afterwards, he will reward you with the lute back. its like multiquesting.

The doppleganger was no problem for a level 56 bard to solo, hes a necromancer i believe around level 45-49....cant remember exactly

Hmm dont remember off the top of my head how hard he hits...but not very, my 55 monk killed him and the real thing at the same time...took just under 1 bub damage. Any competent 50+ bard would rock it easy as long as he/she had a stable connection

The necro doppleganger is level 40 - 45, blue at 52, or something like that. I kited him at level 52. Was a ***** cus he kept fearing and blinding me. Even with full resist song and MM drums. Finally just dotted 3 times selo'd out of range, waited to wear off, rinsed and repeated. that way is pry the easiest if you dont have a group

Red and White Dragon Scales

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could give some info on the new Quests you can do to recieve the Red and White Dragon Scales, instead of having to either kill Naggy/Talendor and Vox/Gore. I think that the Red Scale may drop off a new mob in The Hole, although I'm not certain. Thanks!

Drops 1 scale. Could be red, white, green. Spawns in the hole. Everything else I know is just sketchy.

He indeed does spawn in the Hole, and very deep into it at that. I went on a Hole raid and got to see him...he is Simply an Erudite and he appeared to be wielding a sword that looked like a Throneblade of the Ykesha. He wouldn't attack unless provoked or unless you attacked some of the random Imp/Muddite type mobs. He has a random chance of droping one of the three scales. He melee's pretty hard, 4-500 or so and has a Lifetap that does 1k-1.5k damage. Be sure and clear all the wandering mobs before you attempt to start rebuffing for him...we learned this the hard way. Sitting around him buffing then an imp spawned, aggro'd someone and meestar Erudite joined in to help...Ugly.

Won some Imbued Granite Spaulders on this raid ; )
