I camped those 4 small rooms in back of Sebilis. After killing about 3 PH's the Arch Duke spawned and he was
holding the whip. After a few hours i also got the Sword of Skyfire, Ykeshan war club, and Heirophants Cloak all within
a few hours.

I found out about this sweet item and wanted it for my warrior. One was listed in the bazaar, but at 600K plat I thought it was way over priced. Soooo off to Old Sebilis I go with my rogue. Thirty six hours later with either a PH or The Fabled version popping every 21 mins + change and killing 15+ fableds not one hint of the whip was seen. While the posts on the fabled version state that it can be part of the loot table but you can not prove that by me. I am going to stay here killing as long as I can stay awake. If, no whip in 12 more hours, I am gonna call off the farming until the fableds are gone. If it drops before I give up, I will post it.

After 46 hours, the Fabled Duke finally spawned holding the whip. So, the fabled can drop it too. But,, 46 hours? Good luck to anyone else farming this drop.
There's gotta be a better way for me to snare..
# May 12 2015 at 2:01 PM Rating: Default
Started a heroic warrior and not boxing a class that can snare, so decided to get something that can snare besides using /challenge. Saw this in bazaar for 50,000 plats and thought that was far too high so ran my rogue to Old Seb to camp it. Respawn is 21 minutes and 20 seconds give or take a couple seconds. So far I have seen the placeholder 6 or 8 @17 times, no 1 Arch Duke. Even though I am running around the house taking care of chores inbetween spawns, that 50,000 plats in the bazaar is not looking to be that bad of a deal.

Did the laundry, washed the dishes, watched three episodes of 12 Monkeys (excellent show) and finally got one Arch Duke to spawn and luckily he had the whip. I was wondering if there was/is a fabeled version, but not sticking around to find out.

Damage bonus is applied when you successfully hit. So say you have a weapon with a damage bonus of 5 and you did 15 damage. The damage bonus is added so you will hit for 20.

One-handed and bare hands have damage bonuses that are dependant on your level. I believe the equation is ((level - 25 ) / 3) where "level" is you character's level. As you can see this will only start at level 28.

Two-handed weapons on the other hand are dependant on the delay of the weapon itself. So the slower the weapon, the larger the damage bonus.

Lucy.allakhazam.com has the complete list of damage bonuses by the way so use that as reference.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 14 2003 at 5:05 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a 60 ranger on Saryrn. One thing I learned post 45 was that rangers can't tank of course and were not meant to post Kunark.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 31 2003 at 4:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol, you have a bit to learn, I know this post is a little old, but with today's gear, and AAs, a ranger can out tank a warrior without like AAs anyday. AAs make a gigantic differnce. A ranger with LR5, ID5, will out tanka 65 warrior without, period. I, a ranger, am often the MT in Bastion of Thunder, Sol ro Tower, Valor, etc. And I am often the MT on named mobs too too, such as US, UE, North, West, all in BoT, and we once 4 of us took down the Sleepwalker in inner, i was MT, and I haev been MT on Vindi, etc..

You need both for a successful raid. Tanking and DPS. You can always have one good MT, but you can never have enough DPS (Rangers fit the bill here).

Don't mean to go off track but since I have been in the "new" Bazaar for about 21 hours in 2 days I have bought a centi LS for 1k, sold Veno Axe for 1.8k, sold ikky BP for 6.5k, bought a Barbed Ringmail for 4.5k, and some other small crap like Gaunts of the black for 200pp, Spider Fur Chocker for 250pp, and then this Silken Whip of Ensnaring. i got this from crypt(seb) today. after ranger left we tried this with boon and dex buff. man great this think procs that much when u use it in primary hand and frostie in sec np to hold agro. normaly u need snarer for crypt and other mobs arrond but with haste and dex buff in primary that was no problem. i dont use this when we have snarer in grp then i go back to my primary weps.

Im ranger. I must agree that since lvl 40+ theres huge difference between warrior a ranger in combat, but i dont think rangers fight *that* bad, they just need to be grouped with warr, and then its ok. This whip is nice, i did max 60 dmg with it yesterday when i was trying it near WC on low lvl mob, but u right theres no proc at 49, so probably lvl 50 is right. Its good mainly for warriors, and now it has 8 dmg bonus, which is not desplayed on this pic, bought it for 3kpp on AB
Whip

I got this whip the other day in the Crypt of Seb. I use it as my off hand weapon, it's great. With Boon of the Garou from a chanter, I was procing snare enough to be the main snarer in the group. Not one mob was able to run. Although, this is nice for a back up, I wouldn't want to be the main snarer all the time, even with a high dex, procs are too random to be counted on.

Another thing about snare, it's a great taunter. With a Sarnak Warhammer in my primary (procs stun) and this whip in the secondary, I almost never have a problem keeping agro.

I would say that a warrior would definately need this more than a ranger... reason? Rangers Get to CAST Snare. how many warriors have been stuck LFG, only to have something run up to you, get beat down, then escape only to train the unholy hell out of the poor, slow, fat, spell-less warrior. boy, If i had snare, i bet that silly froggy would have been a lot easier to kill. just a thought, Mr. rangers-need-this-weapon.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 08 2001 at 8:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) VERY VERY FUNNY! FYI at lvl 60 with a good bow and our trueshot disiplin we can crit for up to 1100 dammage with JUST A BOW! So don't tell me rangers don't have a use. Druids on the other hand are good for 1 thing at lvl 60 evac, and thats IT! All their spells are beat out by one class or another.

Rangers have a very decent damage output too, AND their tracking beats a druid's tracking every single time, they are the best outdoor pullers in the game and are a good source SoW in the absence of a shaman-druid.

sorry to disagree, first let me state that I like rangers alot and find them very useful in groups. The best puller still (in any situation) that I've seen in my very long EQ experience is a monk, inside/outside wherever you are that FD is a group saver on a bad pull, and everyone/anyone always has a bad pull here and there, unforseen circumstances happen often in EQ. Just my opinion.

order of best Pullers in EQ:
1. Monks (quick FD and decent amount of HPs)
2. SKs (good amount of HPs, FD, hold aggro)
3. Bards (ok amount of HPs, fade, think they have mem blur song and snare one)
4. Necros (FD, snare, crappy HPs

sry bud, but the only thing pitiful is ur sry excuse for a list, rangers can have just as many hps as the average paladin when needed, but selfbuffed, heres my list

1.-Paladin
1.-Warrior
2.-SK
3.-Ranger
3.-monk
4. Beastlord(lol)
5.-(i watched a shaman tank a lvl 65 down to 50% when the warrior wiped at 94%) so this list can change very easily, but self buffed, which warriors have none, gives paladin and warrior about tie. no offence other classes, but if u have a ranger tanking before a paladin, in most cases, lol, not so good...

I am a Ranger, and you are absolutely right Jumdace :)

Rangers make horrible tanks!

Why?

Becasue we were never meant to tank... plain and simple.

Rangers have been shapped into a damage dealing class, like Rogues. Rangers have SOME (not all) of the highest damage output of most classes in the game. Before people go and whine, "What about Monks and Rogues?"... yes, I give them credit where credit is due.

The problem here is YOUR deffinition of the word "Tank". Your deffinition of the words "Tank" is someoen who stands in front of the casters (basically, any melee class)... only a general deffinition... incomplete at best..

The true deffinition of a "Tank" is someone who stands right up in the MoB's face and fight to get its attention so that it will not beat on anyone else unless it is told to... to basically TAKE the damage from a MoB, not necessarily to DO the most damage.

That being said, Yes.. Rangers make HORRIBLE tanks. They do not have the best AC of anyone in a group (though every once in awhile, with my buffs I rank higher than a warrior a level or two under me). Rangers were not made for AC, Rangers were made for damage dealing and also the fine art of controling aggro (IMHO one of the harder player-skills in the game to learn). With my buffs and utility spells (and a good C3) I can solo pretty much any MoB at or below my level (usually WITHOUT kiting) with little more than 5 mins or so downtime --- BUT --- its takes some skill, some intution, and knowing my class with its strengths and weaknesses. I'm also sure that my soloing will eventually change to just blues then low blues as I progress in levels. That being said, I still prefer groups to soloing, experience is faster that way and I am more effective in a group than solo.

My job as a Ranger is to do damage, which I do very well, and also to avoid aggro when necessary, something I also do very well. Nowhere in my job description does it say that I am expected to take the majority of the hits from a MoB... unless of course its from trying to get a MoB off my over-nuking caster - which I also do very well.

Jumdace is just venting his angst that he still wets the bed at age 38, and obviously hasn't the slightest clue about the class he's so intent on flaming. And to tell you the truth I've found that most warriors like you who talk smack do so because you're a broke **** tank who can't hold aggro and needs to blame someone else for your defficiency. Maybe i picked this class so i could recognise the thick-skulled people on this game faster, cause as a ranger, they just seem to throw they're dented logic at you and try to convince you that you suck...
At 53, i can...
-WAY outtrack a druid or bard.
-Snare AND THEN Jolt away the agro (do that druids)
-Solo <gasp>
-Drop back and go with the bow on a DS or enraged mob (highest bowcrit to date is 274)
-Debuff mob AC
-Buff AC/STR/AGI/ATK
and about 20 other things a warrior couldn't, so heres an idea to all you short sighted, uber-leet wannabe's that got all hopped up on how cool they were cause they could be a little meatshield for the robe wearers. One day a ranger is gonna save your a$$, and i hope you open your freakin eyes. Or you'll just quit eq when you realize everyone has to join a pickup group every now and then, and a rangers gonna steal your agro and rub your nose in it. =/

Wow, I'm glad someone is here to tell me that rangers can only solo animals!

Here I was soloing everything in Scarlet Desert and Twilight Sea, taking down eternals, ancient servitors, and named revenents in The Grey, tearing up cavemen and toilers in Maiden's Eye, the named cycle in Trakanon's Teeth, giant patriarchs in DL, the Allizewsaurus in OOT, and a ton of loot bearing light and low blue mobs in Luclin, none of them animals, with an average downtime of twelve minutes per hour.

I can see now that maxing out my 2hs and using a swarmcaller for the 50 percent slow, then switching off to a Runed Blade for the Rune III while regenerating at 30 points per tick and letting the mob eat a 20 point damage shield is a silly strategy. It doesn't kill the light and low blues nonstop and enable hit-and-run tactics for bowkiting while regenning for quicker kills on the tougher mobs.

How could I have been so blind! Thank you for warning me about my inability to solo! 8D

dont get me wrong i dont have anything against rangers. i wanted to get some thoughts on this - i was grouped with a ranger and he had some quite good ratio 1hs weps and was getting serious aggro. i asked him to use jolt or step back and he said he was using jolt but was still getting aggro. i was using a frosty bloodpoint combo which isnt shabby and found i had to switch out my plate gloves to schw to try and maintain aggro which i dont like doing due to loss of ac. also, i dont know about other warriors but i dont believe in constantly pressing taunt button cos u never know when u will need to really press it in a mob aggro on caster /ench situation. am i being lazy?
also the thing is i also know that verant has given rangers some uber low dly weps - like that 15 dly whip drops in hate. this i really cant figure out.
would appreciate any warrior/rangers to comment.

The reason your ranger had aggro was that you weren't taunting. Taunt every time you are MT and lose aggro. If you aren't losing it, then save it for when you do.

Comment you require? Comment you shall recieve;)

The Ranger you were grouped with just wasn't Jolting enough, more than likely. Call of Fire at 55 draws crazy amounts of aggro (when it decides to go off 5 times in 10 seconds, 65dd+stun), and I often just have to lay on the Jolt button for a few. Jolt costs very little mana, has a fast cast time, and still works to a lesser degree EVEN IF RESISTED (seriously). So, tell your ranger to replace that rev-whip with a real ratio weapon, and learn that 10 jolts in a fight is gonna be normal =)

My opinions...feel free to flame but I feel im pretty right...

No rangers cannot tank, and if you meet one that tells you "yes i can out tank you and all the other plate classes" laugh and walk away.

In the same respect, warriors cannot deal out the dps a ranger can do. plain and simple fact

yes, a better equiped warrior may well out damage a ranger with lesser equipment.

yes, at lower levels warriors do just as much dps.

however, once you get on up in the levels, a warrior is NOT for dps, in most cases, people dont care if yer wearing 2/30 weapons doing no damage, if you keep he hate, yer a good warrior.

warrior and tank are synonymous, just like ranger and dps, just like druid and solo.

In the eq world everyone has their place, a warriors place is to stfu and take the hits.

a rangers is to do damage.

If you are a warrior, and someone takes yer hate, and you take the time to stop and type "/g watch the agro" then your the problem, not them, this may be off topic but it annoys me.

As a warrior your priorities are completely different for ranja's, at this point i have no idea who started this thread but lemme say right now, you are an IDIOT plain and friggin simple, idiot idiot idiot idiot, stupid stupid stupid, go play UO or diablo so you can be with others of your kind, im sure they are lost without your pathetic guidance.

Well, I have finally read a post that has inspired to me to flame--thank you Jumdace.

First off, anyone who just decides to kick someone out of a group for another class isn't worth grouping with. If you really do have the characters you say you do, I am glad I know who to avoid grouping with.

Second, Rangers can wear plate, you're just obviously very confused or not high enough level to have seen a Ranger in Thorny or Untamed--both plate.

Thirdly, we can solo--as long as you're not an idiot. Since it's quite obvious you seem to have had trouble, I guess you should know where that puts you. Rooting, snaring, nuking, bow kiting is VERY efficient and enables Rangers to do far more than just hack and slash.

I would like to relocate you to the South Park timmy server where you can be challenged in a way that best meets your needs, perhaps with Tele-Tubby sing alongs or weeble wobbles?

I also have something to say...

RANGERS ARE NOT UNIQUE!

There I said it! Anything a ranger can do another class can. Are you happy now? I admit it-- anything Rhiante can do someone else can do.

Sometimes better... sometimes not.

BUT... who cares? Thats what being a hybrid is all about. No hybrid is truly unique; not really.

However, not ONE class can do everything a ranger can do. And thats why rangers will always rock. And essentially, that does make them unique. So there, I lied. Rangers are unique.

By the way, most of the classes are difficult to solo; not just rangers. EQ was not designed to be a solo-playing game, that's why. But any class can be soloed with the right precautions, even Rangers.

Try reading the entirety of my post before flaming, hotshot, which you obviously haven't), you'd have realized:

1) My argument is FOR rangers, not against them

2) I have a ranger myself

3) I love my ranger.

But I guess you were in too much of a hurry catching that bus you seem to be going on about.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 31 2003 at 2:03 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Maybe you might want to get into that bus too -- when i see that i'm grouping with a ranger I immediately beg for their UNIQUE awesome attack buffs. Oh yeah, I guess that being the only class that can do awesome damage with their bow alone FOREVER with no shout of "OOM" or loss of health also makes them "not unique". I will agree that they aren't the best tanks in the game -- but they are 4th after warriors, pallies and sk's just because they can hold aggro and provide "snap" aggro unlike other melee classes (rogue, monk) and can provide better melee DPS to hold aggro than the non-double attacking melee classes (bard, BL). While i admitt that on an even equipment/level/AA range my 65 monk main can take hits better than most rangers -- mobs don't die as fast because the casters have to worry a whole lot more about taking damage due to over aggro -- that means either I end up taking more damage per fight than a ranger would or the chanter/wizard/cleric gets to tank.

As Rhiante's partner I know she loves Rangers more than any other class, so she is not making a case against them at all...

Having a Pally, i'm not unique in that I can't really rez as good as a cleric, and I can't hit as hard as my parent class, the warrior. But I can do things they can't, like hundreds of damage to undead, and such. Rangers don't really have that, (druids can track, crit hits on bows go for wars as well); but their abilities combined make them unique, despite what the critics say.

I think you missed her point entirely.

EDIT: Kinda toned down my post.

Oh My God yes that's a good trade. I mean you are a ranger so you don't even need it but the Ghoulbane is only worth like 300pp and the messenger of the queen is only like 100pp. The whip, however, is (I don't know what server you are on but) worth probably ay least 5k.
