any ideal on what these are used for now that they don't work for cultral armors

Are any of the instances where these drop kitable?
All of the nest instances are kiteable. I don't think anything summons in any of the DON instances, except for the nameds.

Also drops off "a nest defender" in The Accursed Nest (Instanced) have not verified if drops off them in non-instanced...dropped off Red con and also a yellow con to the 70s...2 in about 4 hours...however it was some slow Root/dot kiting
Any hints on getting a lot of them please? It seems like the Nest is best bet vs Creator although lately I've had terrible luck with the Nest.

Is the drop rate affected by the average group level? Since they seem to drop in Thundercrest, Stillmoon and the Accursed Nest maybe this is something that could be a factor.
I believe it is relative to the overall level of the group. I have done 3 Black Wing missions in the past 4 days where I agro kite the mobs.
The first group was 3 people. All lvl 70. Got about 1 per hour. We were there for just a little over 2 hours and scored 2. The 2nd group was 4 people. All lvl 70. Killed 20 mobs and got 1 Metallic Drake Scale and 1 Glossy Hide. Not too shabby. We were there right at 2 hours.
Just got done with another one but there were two lvl 66 toons, one 65 toon and two lvl 70 toons. Mobs were about 66 to 68. We killed 25 mobs total in 90 minutes. At least 2 Auspex's but no scales or hides.
I love these missions for exp and farming. Mobs don't summon and there is a lot of running room to kite by the portal. Have the two other casters sit on the big rock in front of the water fall. I just kite the mobs around in a circle in front of them. Depending upon the group makeup, We can do between 6 and 10 mobs per spawn cycle. Exp is not as good as MM's or PoF Tables but being ablet to rack up on scales is why I'm there. The exp (~5 to 9% per kill) is a benefit.

Was in there this afternoon for about 3 hours. Only got a Glossy Hide off a red con Templar (73?). Killed about 7 or 8 Auspex's but no metallic scales.

They are more common, relatively speaking, in Nest than they are in Creator, when comparing the two tasks, but you are still talking 1 or 2 drops per mission usually.
Group average level has to be at least 68+ and even then they are rare drops.
Happens in creator missions and I have heard in the nest as well but I havent done a nest yet, so I cant say. Never seen one in stillmoon yet.

Had these scales drop today from an isle reawakener in The Creator mission.

They must be very rare. I do mass consecutive dons day in and out and have never seen one drop. I do however find them occasionally on the vendors in PoK.
Got 2 from Sickness of the Spirit which is the group Tier 2 DoN mission mostly because we killed every single mob on the way to each NPC needed. I think we killed all the mobs in the court yard on zone in accept the 2 guardians in the middle.
Also did the Simple Task that is in Thundercrest Isles and again killed all the mobs on the way to the Western Island where the 2 names and got one from that mission.

Bought 3 today off the vendor in the Guild Hall.. Some idiot actually sold some and I was lucky to have been in GH all day afk so none of it poofed.
The selling price if I sold it back with 203 Charisma was 1p9g5s and the buying price for me to get it was 2p9g9s.
I plan on selling them in the bazaar once I get back to my PC so I figure.. nice profit for staying afk.

I have been on serveral missions in both Stillmoon and Thundercrest Isles.. I have seen 1 drop in Thundercrest Isles, but none in Stillmoon.. I have heard they will only drop off drakes ( regular and nameds ) on missions and only in the nest and TCI with a better shot in the nest.. A guild friend said the drop rate was nerfed like 2 weeks after the expansion came out..
I have never seen one drop anywhere except Accursed Nest and Thundercest Isles missions. I have done "History of the Isles" many times and seen 1 drop ever. I've only done 3 Nest missions and seen 2 drop.

Do they drop off regular drakes? or only named drakes? I have been on Thundercrest Shared Tasks and havent see one drop yet

see about 2-4 times on a typical nest mission. now only if i knew what they were for when i looted them instead of selling to vendors
