I am looking for a shield for my level 25 cleric. I came across this one. I camped the spot and the commander spawns every tenth kill of the sage place holder and the respawn time is 10 minutes, so every 1 hour and 40 minutes you can get the commander to spawn, if you kill the sage every 10 minutes. I camped this for two days on and off. I killed the commander for around 10 times, no shield. If you want this you will need a lot of luck or a lot of patience. The dented plate bracer ( https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=33809 ) dropped every time and sells for 95 platinum.

aye he dropped my shiedl its best piece of gear my core rules druid has at lev 40, upgrades my crested mistmoore shield by loads.

What is wrong with you guys? Theres a decent drop for lower level toons. Either your in an uber guild and can't stand to see the rest of us get nice loot. or your just so use to getting crap that your in shock. It's just a shield. Lots of the new gear has better stats now. Just accept it. It's a nice change. It's funny reading stuff like "It better be a super rare drop" LOL
ive only seen this mob spawn *once* and i go thru lavastorm and check for him almost every other day... he had the shield when my party of 3 took him out... 2 level 37 rangers and a level 44 mage... now level 57, workin on 58 and i have not seen him again... may just have to camp this one sometime

How often do you have to wait for this shield to spawn on the guy
I was in the zone with my 52 druid, looking around. I spyed him on a presipus overlooking the lavas main area... what would be the volcano itself I presume. I had no idea this guy was only 25. He has a decent amount of hitpoints and 3 casters with him. Most, if not all seem to be sowed.
I can see how the pull as well as the zone could be dangerous for a level 25 or even a party. The casters seem to use a varied asinal, they root and nuke and buff and heal. etc. The other thing that makes this zone dangerous is a lot of stuff roams and will agro... The new spiders will also agro.
My jaw dropped when I saw this shield, I thought it was going to be some cheesy kite shield. It would be nice if it looked a little more special, but its very nice. I nearly fell out of my chair when i came here to check the level.
for you fairly new still to EQ, you will be surprised to know a shield like this usually would drop off some 40+ mob.... for you little whipper-snappers. :)~

You can see when the Comamander is carrying this - killed him 4 times and got this only once - usually the dent bracer

Maybe they finally figured out that dropping an item like this on a 50+ mob is retarded.
I assume it is because of the massive amount of items in the bazaar now that items once considered good are now lowbie gear. Thus putting gear like it on new low end mobs will give them an option of obtaining the gear instead of the bazaar.
However, yeah.. this item should be in a 30lvl zone at least. the other stuff is good for its level also but a 35ac and useful stats shield?

Compared to the Journeyman's cultural armors, this shield is right on line statistically. You can expect to be able to finish a full set of Journeyman's Armor (All by yourself even!) By level 25, assuming you know exactly what you are doing, looking for, etc.
Do you really think someone who is new to EQ would be able to take on this small encampment of Goblins at level 25? It IS a tough pull, since 1: There's a named mob which will typically have more HP, higher AC, better resists than a normal mob 2: There's Healers! Lowbie healer mobs pawn players! 3: Casters.. A couple good nukes from a goblin caster and see how fast you click your healing Potions.. So you say a level 30+ zone? I say if you know how to take this camp at level 25 you earned it. If you are a cheesy electric donkey bottom biter that kills lowbie mobs for bazaar loot or twinks your alts.. well, yeah, you are probably alot higher than level 30, so there's your balance kid.
Now go to bed before I taunt you a second time!
Edit Notes: After looking at this item I wanted to be a cheesy electric donkey bottom biter and farm this up for a new SK alt I made just to wear the shield cause it's so very nice. Ahem.. I meant to say, "Here's the low down on the Solusek Goblins encampment"
Roamer; There is a single Solusek roamer, that will wander from just in front of Nagafen's Lair to just at the south west most edge of the lava pool. It will be either a Solusek Goblin Fighter or a named mob, a Solusek Goblin Assassin (He is Invisible by the way). The Assassin drops a nifty 1HP Smoldering Steel Dirk and a Belt the Thinly Woven Cord
South West Lava pool camp; This is where I found the Solusek Goblin Commander. He drops this shield and the bracer thing you can just follow the above links for it all = p
South East Lava Pool Camp; This is where I found a Solusek Goblin Lookout, who drops Book of Charcoal Scribbles and Primordial Chain Bracer
Fun stuff and some nifty gear for lowbies. But this shield by far outweighs all the other drops, just because of the recommended level 10 High AC and useable by all but the zerks. I got one of each item to drop in a 3 hour camp except for the Primordial Chain Bracer. Maybe luck but these mobs aren't rare by any means.

those stats on a lvl 20 mob?! it better be an ultra rare drop!!
