In Live this weapon is still a wonderful damage boost during your Rogue's burn cycle.
Before you mash the big button hitting all your stacking Discs/AA/Abilities make sure you hit this first. As soon as it finishes 'casting' mash your BURN and watch the pretty numbers scroll by, then just reuse on cooldown (every 3mins with 2min duration. When it comes time for another hard burn it will already be running at the 10min mark in time to hit your big burn again: Frenzied Stabbing - Rogue's Fury - BP click - Rake's Rampage - Foolish Mark (2nd round). Delay Spire a minute and you should get the last of it in time for the beginning of the Burn. Hit Composite Weapon, Pinpoint Defects, and Shadow's Flanking on cooldown. I set most all these abilities to Hotbar 9 and set each button on that bar to my Z key so they all go off at once.
Enjoy your burns!

Still use this every time it refreshes at lvl 105. The tripple backstab combined with the extra 10% damage on melee when debuff is on is nice. 750k assassinations become 825k for example.

I use it every time it's up at 120. It will always remain valuable similar to Shaman, Cleric, Bard, SK, etc epics.

Rogue 2.0 is by far the hardest/longest epic quest (1.5 bottlenecks).

Yes, absolutely worth it.
Just watched a video from Realm of Insanity where their main Rogue was using it on cooldown to get server first kills on latest release ToLuclin content. 10% damage bonus is always relevant. A few of the other 2.0s, like the embarrassing Enchanter ones for example aren't, but almost all of the rest have at least some clickie or feature that makes them worth using forever.

I say this is prob one of the best epics due to its been around sooooo long and still hasn't been replaced by a wide assortment of weapons.
Many other classes epic 2.0's have been replaced by end game TSS weapons.
Not counting TBS of course. =)

OK smart guy...first of all the item name is Swiftcleave, not Switch Cleave. Second, Swiftcleave is a 1HS which makes your argument make no sense at all. This weapon is for a rogue whose primary attack means is piercing; notably for their backstab ability. While a 30/19 1HS would be a great offhand for a rogue, the primary weapon a rogue will wield in the main hand is a piercer so that they can deal the heavy damage that backstabs (including doubles and triples) will do. You may take the time in the future to try and understand what a weapon's purpose is before you make an obviously ignorant comment like that. I also forgot the fact that all Swiftcleave has in the way of extras is a 200hp DD Proc. You may notice that Nightshade has a clicky, a focus effect, a backstab mod, adds to attack, regen, and backstab damage. The focus effect also lowers reuse time on the duelist discipline which will just make the rogue deal more damage.

True alot better ratio weapons are everywhere and drop easy..but then you have to realize this weapon is for rogues and could put them at over 900dps. Even though ill admit pallies get alot better ratio weapons i havent seen a pally with over 300dps yet.. maybe with a 2.0 but still not even close to a rogue with this weapon

for a rogue ration doesnt matter much, as long as its not over 25, the dmg matter, even if this had like 25 delay/27 dmg my 70 rogue would ave it, 27 dmg for a rogue mean backstabs up to easily 5000
RE: terrible
# Sep 20 2007 at 7:48 PM Rating: Decent
On my 75 rogue back in the day, Just 2.0, No dmg augs at all I saw Crit backstabs of around 3,000.
With triple backstab, your nearing 9,000.
Focus+Champion, or whatever the cap breaking combo is now a days,
then add Tacvi Aug, TSS Dmg Aug, And 2.5 lol.
Not only I, but just about any rogue that wields this since it came into existance made it famous of one-rounding sitting folk on PvP Servers.

I started working on epic 1.5 like 6 months ago, hard core. i got a lot done, but then I sort of gave up for a while because you NEED a GOOD guild to do a few of the battles. I went along on a couple battles with my old guild and they went OK. the first time we did a couple of those battles we wiped over and over that night. We beat it the next day, but it takes methotical thinking, and well behaved people to help. you can't have dummies running around or not doing their specific task perfectly. Why I left the guild and server before getting my epic- I dont know and I smack myself every day. Anyway I guess I have to kiss bootay and be a trial member and go through all that again in a new guild to get this. Grats to everyone else who has this and isn't married to EQ! hehe

First off I am a level 70 rogue with a wack of aa (576) to be exact. I use multiple parsing programs and am currently using a Crystal Dagger 24/17 weapon as my prime. I have in it the 1 dmg augment from inktuta (sp) making it a 25/17 weapon. My offhand is DoD from time which i beleive is 21/20. Now I do not have all my dps aa as i have been maxing out more important aa as resists etc. With my haste item 41% and the top chanter haste. I get a backstab every 5.10 seconds +/- .10 seconds. That does not include double or triplle backstabs. Based on my logs for a 5 min raid mob I parse 494 dps using my 70 disc and one of my quick minor discs. my dps gets broken down by eq companion and clearly shows that backstab does 40-50% of my damage depending on what i hit. My top bs unbuffed is 1130. Top non disc crit is 1912. With my attack approaching near 2200+ on a raid I hit my top bs quite often. I will be more than happy to paste my results of my logs once i have all my dps aa. So before people open their mouths they should look at logs and get facts to back it up!. The DPS on this dagger will be quite insane especially with a dmg and proc aug in it!
RE: To those who have no clue!
# Jul 29 2005 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
You need to be wielding a different weapon in offhand. A DoD isn't a horrible weapon, but if you can manage a crystal dagger in primary, you're doing something wrong to still be using a DOD in secondary for both the stats/hps/saves and especially for the damage when you can get some big hitting 1hbs and 1hsers out of GoD and OOW!

Ok call me crazy but this epic dosent seem as awesome as everyone thinks. I mean sure, a BS off this weapon would be fairly impressive, but most of a rogues dps comes from normal attacks. Dont get me wrong, 27dmg (yes, I saw the +2 poison)/ 19dly is a superb ratio, but just not very damaging. No rogue (that I have seen) is doing normal pierces (allowing for crits) for over 400. Yet, its not unreasonable to see any other melee class crit for 400+. IMHO This item should have been slightly more damaging. HOWEVER it is still very good.

ok, now flame away. /shrug

thats disputable for sure

from anguish, sure it's dmg/dly ratio isnt that great, but 28 dmg? thats going to give u some ncie backstab dmg.. parsing a high end rogue like that may end up showing that backstab dmg can almost do the same ammount as normal attacks
RE: Is this so good?
# Mar 01 2005 at 12:26 AM Rating: Decent
Just to set things straight...any decent rogue has triple backstab AA maxed...and if you have upwards of 300ish AA you pretty much have ALL offensive AA. With a common RS drop such as "Chaliak's Fang" 22/20 a rogue can single BS for about 5k if its auged right.

This Epic is not only good....It puts rogues over the top as the undisputed best DPS machines in the game...with the 70 Disc ( Freinzied Backstab) that allows a rogue to Backstab every 1.5 seconds and some of them triple BSs, and most all of them at least double BSs, you can see the potential.

Good luck to the Tanks...keeping aggro off a full discing rogue with one of these will be a task.

Good luck, the 1.5 quest is not that hard....get started.

I'm sorry did I miss something or has a highend rogue's primary weapon always been a low dmg/delay piercing weapon for BSs and their off hand, usually, a higher dmg 1hb or something like that, IE painsipper. Considering a roag is BS'ing several times in a fight I would imagine it works out fine. For the record, 27 dmg + maybe the 2dmg augment from Tacvi, is an awesome damage for a mainhand piercer for a roag.
RE: Is this so good?
# Jan 13 2005 at 4:15 PM Rating: Default
I'm not sure what you mean by "if" you get a backstab off this thing. If you have it chances are you have all the backstab AA stuff and your discs. Which means every single mob you fight you're gonna get to start out with for sure 2 backstabs against them. As for bosses, if backstab doesn't hit that often then rogues would just be warriors. Their dmg during raids in no way supports that backstab is not the bulk of rogue damage. Of course swining two weapons at 100%+ haste is gonna do a ton of damage and the ratio matters but rogue damage is backstab. And the price they pay is shown even in the first epic dagger. It's lower than the other weapons but I don't see how it is making rogues any worse off than other people with epic 2 when it gives a 29 dmg base to get those triple backstabs off on constantly through out a fight...

Most rogue weapons swing two to three times before a ..oh say Pallies weapon swings again. As in Ill get in 2 or 3 melee rounds before a pally gets in another melee round. But you are right I doubt I would get a 400 crit for it. A 380 I could see and a BS mod would stack with the other BS mods (Time bp / GoD Gloves / Augment from LDoN) so forth, so add all that up and you got a bit of damage on your hands added to a backstab.

Not flaming ya. Was just pointing out a few things.

Acutally, a 26 damage weapon has a crit range from about 320-400, depending on aa's and buffs. This weapon will do well over 400 crits, and any rogue that has attained one, likely already has an Eye of the Onyx Guardian or Sharp Irestone Fragment waiting to go into it, making the weapon potentially a 30 or 31 damage weapon.

That is how powerful epic 2.0 should be compaired to CoA drops which epic 2.0 are barely better for the most part.

Hee hee, someone forgot the biggest part of entropy... Time. Yes, i can see server merges someday, but yes, i expected that 5 and half years ago. Like the Roman Empire, EQ too will fade away. Lol... just that comparison is amusing. Don't blame the game designers, or the players, or the rogue epic, or even the ever-breeding crickets. Just like Wolfenstein or Elvis, or the ubiquitous Roman Empire, Everquest's Holy later years shan't be enough to gain it immortality over the effects of Time. It will be back-shelfed as was Duck Hunt when your Nintendo got upgraded to Playstation, or at least when you spilled root beer on the gun which promptly and permanently quit working. Let it go in its time, as you will when your grandparents pass away or the favorite bar down the street shuts its doors. Hold up a glass one day, and say to your aging friend, "Remember Fippy Darkpaw?"

Missed the point.

Some games don't go away with time.
The best games (Think hard, you'll come up with a few) don't. Still play some from 20 years ago.

Well writen to be sure, but off the mark.

The decline of EQL was the designers fault. Nothing wrong with with putting the blame where it belongs.

EQ is an MMORPG, those will never go away, and EQ set the bar much higher than the standard was ever thought to be. They literally went from paper + pencil to graphical user interfaced multiplayer online.

Just cause you play Pac Man or Super Mario Bros. for nostalgic reasons, or Chess/Checkers for skill/boredom, doesn't take anything away from what has become a definite classic.

The designers have only added to the content, and if you actually did (or even read) the 1.5-2.0 quests, you'd find that it's more detailed, involved, and interesting than anything other MMORPG's have to offer.

Time and Technology are to blame... the designers are only failing to keep up with it... which is a goal that nobody will ever achieve.

I noticed people think the 2 poison damage is worthless. Do you happen to know that most mobs in the game have very VERY low resists when dealing with poison? Also do you know why people go crazy over getting any upgrade in damage for a backstabbing weapon? The 2 poison damage basically make it a 29dmg backstabber which is very much more useful than a 27dmg backstabber. But anyway, rogue damage IS out of control and constant resist increasing is making direct damage casters more and more useless and the game is self destructing because of this. So nothing really matters that they do unless it's addressing this problem...

12% is actually the cap for this. There were some GoD items with 15% but the devs said the extra 3 did nothing because it was capped at 12%, so they adjusted those items down to 12%.
RE: Very nice
# Dec 19 2004 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
They adjusted all the 15% backstab skill mods back down to 12% before they introduced Omens of war. Omens raised the effective skill caps, and having a 15% backstab skill mod would have had rogues doing more backstab dmg than intended.

About the rogue epic 2.0, having a 27/2 poison dmg epic is a slap in the face to rogues. Putting one poison dmg on it would be understandable, acceptable even, but 2 poison won't make up for 1 solid damage. As it is, if you have Soulskive from Adaptation in MPG, the epic 2.0 won't be that huge of a DPS boost, where other classes are getting huge dps boosts.
