Familiar may give see invis...but it doesnt give ultravision. What about the blind humans and erudites out there? I wouldn't mind a little vision enhancement. Of course, it's not the best effect it could have...and could even have a better vision effect, but take what you get and deal...right?
Wizard ornate gloves have mana pres to SoS (at the time, incredibly useful). As for the focus effect, and the gloves being augmentable...As it is, these gloves provide 2 near useless effects. Wizard familiars give the vision enhancement. The dmg shield modifier doesn't do much for us either, since we rarely get into a situation where us tanking and having 3 extra pts of dmg shield on make any difference, except with green cons we can melee to death.
So I stand by my opinion that these gloves have bad focus effects on them for a wizard. The stats are good, which is fine, but if SOE is going to add focus effects, they should at least put some thought into class specific gear, and not copy paste itemization.
As for quest gear is concerned, with the focus effect on these gloves, I have to say that Desecrated Gloves of Order are better, and these can be purchased in the bazaar, or gotten off of a common named mob in WoS, making these quest gloves not worth the risk / reward. But, if SOE modified the effect on the spelldeviser's gloves to something usefull to a wizard, it would make them desirable to quest for.
The stats on these items are good. They are augmentable. To complain about the effect is just silly, lets try and be more positive :). If you need the see-invis, then its handy, if not - then you are not hindered by having it.
