Dropping more often?

Has the drop rate of Slugworms increased? I have seen these drop quite often in the last week:
-2 in NC (soloing)
-3 in HS (soloing)
-2 in DS (doing faction with group)

Could just be a fluke, but I am also seeing more of these for sale in the baz than ever and the price is dropping quickly.

This could be due to demand being down (the people with lots of pp may already have their augs), or to an increase in supply (increased drop rate).

Anyone know if this item is dropping more often now? Has anyone else experience abnormally high drop rates?

Cheers,
-Sububer
Drop Rates
# Jan 14 2005 at 1:05 PM Rating: Decent
Held a faction raid in DS, to the south of Bloodfields, I checked my logs and in those 2-3 hours we killed about 300 mobs and not single slugworm dropped. We were pulling from all over the zone. Its drop rate has to be super super rare.

I'm seeing the items made with these things selling for 300k+. Looted one last night and by this morning it was sold without question for 50k on Xegony. Next one will be put up for 75k. You people that do the tradeskills have no problem ripping people's heads off with high priced items, so I'm not gonna feel sorry for you when the combines are expensive too.
RE: Quit whining!

I wish half the people in the bazaar took an economics course once in their life and they would get basic ideas such as supply, demand ,etc.

Cbourne,

The higher the prices you charge for components that have a 60% chance to fail 2-3 times to make one end product the higher in price the resulting end product will be. I myself have a trader going probably 20 hrs a day and I see people trying to get outrageous prices for these components. My way of handling it is to not buy them and let other people blow their money on failures. Im content to farm and when I get lucky and get the drop Ill try a a combine.

Your reasoning of: Ill just keep getting more for it is as ignorant as the person who undercuts the next guy continuously until the item has lost 80% of its value and then complains why a 50K item is now worth 10K only 2 months later. Well for godsake, use your head, you were the reason it happened.

My policy is I match prices as much as possible... If somone annoys me enough I will engage in a price war to drive their prices down then buy out their supply and restabilize the market price. Luckily I have accumulated enough money over the past 2 years to be able to that and I have turned a tidy profit in the meantime.

So, Cbourne, if you would like some tips on econimics you can contact me at 1-800-Get-a-Clue.
RE: Quit whining!
# Oct 29 2004 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
I'm not sure what priniciple you're trying to say here. But I will just say that in ANY market, when the demand for an item goes up, especially an item which is an investment (such as an commodity used in the production of rarities), the price will rise accordingly. That's how businesses make money. The same patterns are followed in a crude fashion in the bazaar. And when a new item is first pumped into a market, the prices are always high. With that being considered the adage, "You need to spend money to make money" comes to mind. When the price of the resulting augments of this combine go down, so will the demand, and the price will drop accordingly and regulate. That's how markets work. Don't screem at Cbourne because he's a shrewed businessman.
RE: Quit whining!
# Oct 31 2004 at 7:02 PM Rating: Decent
he is trying to say that if he sells the slugs for 50k then the end product will abviously be at least 50k so say the person buys the works for 50k, he will mark up the price to say 75k because he has a chance of failing and needs a profit. that's just one component. add a few more and youre easily up to 300k. so, if the components were cheaper. the product would also be cheaper.
RE: Quit whining!
# Nov 11 2004 at 4:17 AM Rating: Excellent
Only one thing wrong with that logic:

They will sell them for whatever they can get for them, and people will pay 300k for a +12 aug that is tradeable.

Has nothing to do with the cost of reagents, cus they'd charge 300k even if they farmed the components themselves, I know I would.

Besmirch is correct. The seller of a new item will try to get as much as possible for it. If it does sell, then they will buy the components for a price that allows them a profit.

I don't work in the uagments, but I do know I have paid over 10k for the magnetized brestplate or greave, used to make magnetic armor. I've also funded quite a few upgrades from the profit I made selling the finished magnetic armor. Now that the price on magnetic is falling, I am only paying 8k for the bp and greaves.

Sure I can farm the stuff, but not enough to keep up with the quantity I sell.

Component prices are driven by rarity, and by the quality/value of the finished product.

Back when the elemental planes were the new cool place to be, I paid 50k for the materials for ONE livestone breastplate. However, the finished breastplates were selling for over 150k.

Supply and demand is driven by the marketplace, at least in Everquest. The raw materials cost doesn't factor into the final goods price, unless the materials are very common.

He's not 100% correct because there are a large percentage of us that don't sell the created augs at all we make them for our friends. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the afore mention slugworm at 50k however my friend will go with out at the price of 75k. It is rediculous the avg price of the finished augs, but i assume those prices are for you ebays that just buy your cash anyway. On my server the high ends don't touch a 500k augment its the ebayers that purchase that crap.
RE: Quit whining!
# Dec 21 2004 at 3:43 PM Rating: Decent

The trouble is that people don't realize how often the combines fail. They think if they see an aug that costs 200k, they should be able to get at least 70k for their slugworms. The combine fails most of the time unless you have Smithing mastery and alchemy mastery, even then it's only a 36% chance of success on the final two combines, so if you sell sludgeworms for 50k, you are just pushing the price of the augs up to 300k minimum. Thats just the breakeven price considering the cost of making the minor aug, the cost of the inlay, and the failure rate. To make a profit, the price has to go even higher than that on the end result aug.

So get a clue people, if you see an aug for sale at 200k, that doesn't mean you should get 50k of it. In fact, the price of the slugworm would have to be less than 16k in order to break even when selling the end result for 200k.

The EQ economy is so messed up....the fact is most items are high-priced because one rich moron paid too much for something,so everyone with the same item expects the same price(which is why many items in the Bazaar are listed but not sold). When the rich have the items they need and have outfitted their friends/guildies,then the price drops because most players don't have the money to waste on a high-failure item. Slugworms will be below 10k in 3 or 4 months.(about the same amount of time EQ comes out with ANOTHER expansion). Just watch :-)

Haha, so long as you know that the once 300k item will now be 500k because people like you raise the prices on the components. These arent no-fail combinations and it really sucks when you spend 100k on items then fail. :)

Insane prices
# Oct 23 2004 at 10:52 AM Rating: Default
Well Im just gonna gripe about the prices on these too. Been seeing them in bazzar 30-50K. Im thinking people do no realize the ridiculously high trivials/fail rates on the combines to make the augs. Trivials of 351 with a modded skill of 252 still = 60% fail rate or so. So for every 10 combines with a cost of 40K per slugworm means you get 4 succcess for stage one etching out of the 10. Costing 100K avg for first Etching. Not to mention cost of the cutting of the stone and the cost of the Inlays which range from 1K -6400pp for just vendor bought stuff.

On the Rathe the Discordant Scoriae is going for 60K and the Dust of Discord is now up to 50K. The Trivials on the smithing combines for them is 307-351. So if you bought all the components on the Rathe and had all skills modded to 252 your looking an average cost over 10 tries to be somewhere over 350K given u have 3+ chances to fail 60% of the time.

All in all who would risk making the items if selling the components can fetch such a hearty price ? Most of the completed augs on the Rathe are selling from 200-350K - I guess not too bad when you consider the above.

the FACT that some people are expecting 150k+ on SolRo for these damn worms is goddamn rediculious... i know its supply and demand. but you must realize - everyone wants l33t gear. well then TRY to get it! do u want to see an aug in the baz for 80k w/ Cleave 3 on it. or an aug for 400k w/ the same effect. buying slugworms at 5k or so each - and the other subcomponents. u can sell them for that much and still make mad profit. i cant believe how greedy some people are being about this crap. lets HOPE that the prices will eventurally drop. /rant off
