Stein [Stein of Water]  

 

Anyone doing these quests for nostalgia or working on the epic 1.0, "a magician" in Najena have a chance to drop any of the four items needed for the Temple of Sol Ro foci quests. That is the broom, stein, torch and shovel. They aren't super common (probably around a 10% chance each magician will drop any of the four), so it can take awhile to get all four (and you'll get probably 2-3 of some before seeing your first of another.) But, they definitely all still drop from the "a magician" mobs in Najena.

Just as a quick reference as to where to find magicians:

(2) in Trazdon's Room, down the ramp from Trazdon there is a spawn that is always a magician, and Trazdon's PH is a magician.
(2) in Najena's Room, to the left and right of where she can spawn, the center spawn in that room is always either an elemental or Najena herself (Golden Crescent Key opens the room)
(2) in the "Mage Room", which is the second left after you go through the gate house (so go past the entrance to the room w/the pool of water that leads up to Najena)
(3) in the back left room of the jail, one of which is a PH for Ekeros (Shiny Metal Key opens the cell)
(1) in the second jail cell, it is the PH for Rathyl (Dull Bone Key opens this cell)

Note using proximity agro or by switching into an illusion from while pressing onto the door you can bypass all the locked doors in Najena without the keys, but you'll accumulate all of the keys naturally while farming for these foci items so might as well use them.

In addition to those magicians, other mobs I have seen drop foci pieces:

Ekeros
Trazdon
a goblin magician

It's quite possible that every mob in the zone drops them now, but it may just be restricted to the "a magician" mobs, the mobs that share spawns with them (like Trazdon and Ekeros do) and the "a goblin magician" mobs.

Additionally "dark-boned skeleton" are reported to drop all the foci item, I made sure to kill every one I could find while farming the other spawns and they never dropped any for me. There is one dark-boned spawn in the room with two elementals near "The Guard Captain" room, and there are several that can spawn in the back cell (Shiny Metal Key) that is near the cell where the 3 magicians and Ekeros spawn.

I just got one today from an alligator in Feerrott just outside of Cazic Thule. I am running on the Al'Kabor server, so this information may not be useful for you Windows folks.

I got the stein off of a Dark-boned Skeleton last night. If you look at the comments for Dark-boned Skeleton, seems that you can actually get all 4 quest items from this mob.

This quest starts in The Temple of Solusek Ro through Lavastorm. You have to go and find an NPC named Vira. She will give the quests for all four mage focus items. You will need the following: BROOM; star ruby, griffon feather (karana), broom (najena mage), and cyclops toes. SHOVEL; ruby, gargoyle eye (mistmore), shovel (najena mage), and hill giant toes (EK). TORCH; fire emerald, fire drake skin (lavastorm), torch (najena mage), and fire giant toes. STEIN; sapphire, mermaid scale (OOT, an alluring siren), stein (najena mage), and ice giant toes.

Contrary to popular belief the items you loot are not the focus items, they are simply components of the focus items. For most of the items you can wait by the zones and ask people if they will give them to you. Let htem know it's for a mage quest and they are usually happy to donate the items. Especially in Najena. The gems can be *VERY* expensive so it's best to ask friends and guildmates if they have looted any of them and are willing to help you out. IF not, you had better start saving your copper peices. I got one off an Alligator in Cazic, right at the zone entrance. I have been hunting in Cazic since lvl 26, and am now lvl 32. I have killed countless alligators. I have only seen 1 stein (and about 3 brooms btw).
