It's a very long walk. Best thing to do is find a map of SS.

I like my SS armor and wouldn't change it out for Warlord's personally. It's true, higher mobs aren't going to care what your AC is. That level 63+ mob is still going to nail you for 600 a pop whether you have 1200 or 1300. Personally I am going the HP route.

I have 1201ac/3003 hp right now at 58. I am going to keep at around 1200 ac unless some nice drops give me better, but for the most part I will be sacking AC for +hp/sta as long as I keep it over 1200. Once I reach 205 sta, it's all about hp. All I need is the BP to finish off the set.

Ask yourself, which is going to fair better. A 1300ac/4k hp unbuffed warrior, or a 1200ac/5500 hp unbuffed warrior. I think the 5500 hp warrior will, as does the rest of my guild and many others:)

Call AC king all you want, I did until 1200, then your king gets dethroned by a guy called hitpoints.

I totally agree...and I'm glad to see that there are warriors out there that aren't morons. My barb war friend boasts all the time about how many procs he can do with 200+ dex and all that well my dex is 128 and I can out-tank him any day of the week. Something to think about for people who have a warrior and are wondering how to improve. Hps > all. Um, this is a thread about the armor though and I wouldn't mind tossing this baby on to replace my barbed ringmail ( rofl ). 90 hps is very attractive unlike my fugly trull, heh.

Don't forget that lovely agility)...While all the Wars are busy pushing the limits of HP, I'm sitting tight at around 7k buffed and going all out on Mitigation and Avoidance with my AA's. I have CA3 and CS3, and the day I got Physical Enhancement I was able to tank the named in HoH with NO healer! We use a ranger and a Chanter with charmed pet, as we all know Wars don't have squat for DPS, lol. Just keep in mind, that HP's are great, but if ye don't get hit, ye don't need em so badly))

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 24 2002 at 8:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There are three types of velious bp's. It depends on where you quest for them. There's champions bp, Myrmiddons bp, and Warlords bp, wich I think is the skyshrine one. I think the myrmiddons bp is the kael one. I belive the ac on this bp is 59 and is called warlords breastplate.

Kael armor > SS armor for warrior - any piece!
AC > All. Warriors tank - and when you are tanking AC/HP is most important. I don't care if the mob you're tanking is a caster, All mobs melee and 60+ mobs hit harder then they cast. Resists are useless when tanking. I know what you all are thinking, "well not every warrior tanks" - True, but if you're not tanking, you should be wearing resists gear, like BD bracer, Diamond rings, etc.
If your guild is good enough to take WTov, and something in HoT drops, dont even send a tell/roll for item, let a cleric or hybrid get the drop, the mana on those is insane :) full cleric in SS has a crazy amount mana.
RE: ...
# Jul 04 2002 at 3:07 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry, you're wrong.

Warriors have an AC cap. After 1300 AC, or 1250, AC no longer matters as it is "capped" and mobs will hit you less hard if you are around this cap, however if you are determined to raise your AC they will still hit you as if you had 1300 AC.

Therefore, it is better to get Myrmidon, reach the AC cap, and get the extra stats / hp / resists off of the Myrmidon armor, instead of pure AC from Kael.

THATS why it's considered better.
RE: ...
# May 04 2003 at 12:40 AM Rating: Decent
actually the supposed softcap is being ruled out. the idea is to have ac higher than the mobs atk rating, so truely the more AC the less you will be hit for. people thought there was a soft cap of 1100 during kunark, because the mobs had lower atk ratings than they do now. gradually it has increased to 1200-1250-1300-1350 etc and will continue most likely, and the likely reason is that newer mobs have higher atk ratings.

as for which is greater, neither is. when it comes down to it, mix and match the pieces. the HoT gaunts have far greater hps than the kael ones, and have only a tad less AC. you should not trade off 5ac for 10hps though, the traditional idea is 10hps=1ac.

if you can go without some of the bigger pieces of HoT gear while your guilds doing HoT, and just pick up the killer hp bits like the gloves, then when you move to WToV you can fill in the spots you need with kael plate and form a nice balance of ac while keeping high hps.

the ac multiplier is 1ac=1.6ac worn, so the difference is about 89.6ac if you went all kael, which imo is not worth the hps from some of the HoT bits like the gaunts, youll have minimal gains in ac from mixing, and youll get a *lot* less hps.
RE: ...
# Jul 12 2002 at 4:34 AM Rating: Excellent
The cap that you're talking about is somewhat off actually.

There IS an ac soft cap. However, this soft cap changes from mob to mob. All that it is based on is the mobs atk vs your ac. While a warrior with 1250ac will be well over the ac soft cap for say Seb mobs, who have an atk of around 1000, the same warrior won't fare too well against many higher-end, raid mobs.

The two complete sets of armor look like this:

Kael Total:
(raw) AC - 279
STR - 34
STA - 40
DEX - 17
AGI - 23
HP - 310
MAGIC - 17
POISON - 2
DISEASE - 4
COLD - 14
FIRE - 9

Skyshrine Total:
(raw) AC - 223
STR - 36
STA - 31
AGI - 39
DEX - 42
HP - 335
MAGIC - 26
POISON - 1
DISEASE - 11
FIRE - 18
COLD - 17

If you're comparing hitpoints and resists, from a full set (two bracers) of SS you get 335hp and 31sta. From Kael you get 310hp and 40sta. At level 60, 1sta gives you 6hp. Therefore, a full set of Kael armor will give you 550hp and a full set of SS armor will give you 521hp. True, it's only a 29hp difference between the two sets, but it adds up.

The resists on the two sets are pretty insignificant in their difference as well. The biggest difference in the two sets is that SS gives 9 more MR than Kael, all the other resists are pretty close to each other.

The biggest difference is 16 more agi and 25 more dex, but dex is pretty much only used for procs at that point (which, while useful, can be buffed to near max if ANY shaman is nearby), and a 16agi difference will equate to about 3 or 4 total ac difference. SS also has 2 more str than Kael, a difference which is all together negligible.

However, Kael has a whopping 56 RAW ac more than SS. This equates to a total of probably 70-90ac.

AC/HP are still a warrior's number one concern. The resist differences are negligible, the stat differences are negligible, the hp are pretty close all told on the two sets, but in the AC category, Kael wins by a longshot. Kael is by far superior to SS for a warrior.

Interesting concept.
Here's another one. You play the way you want to play and I'll play the way I want to play and we'll all be happy. But please don't try to tell me (or any other person who doesn't conform to what their class "should" be) how to play or what gear they need.

thanks and have a nice day :)
AC Cap

There has been much speculation to an AC cap, and if true, I would take SS armour over Kael. Besides its easy to flip flop factions for major guilds and get the best of both worlds.

Amen! I'm going for this simply because my CoV faction is already pretty good. The resists in addition to the extremely high AC make this armor extremely valuable. My Kael faction cannot get any lower. And now, because of a new development in our guild, I just may have the support I need to get the quest items for it, too. AC is king, but this is still an awesome BP anyway. The day I can pick and choose between the 2 best armors in the game is the day I'll dance a jig nekked on the top of the Empire State building, hehe.

I've seen some of the thurg pieces drop in Kael in arena area, but I've never heard of where the other pieces drop.

Any info would be appreciated.

basically, if you are high enough to get this, you know that most mobs in velious dont care what your AC is. a dragon is going to hit you for however much he wants. This is debatable but the skyshrine armor is more valuable because of it's resists. Though it is also debatable because of bards insane resists and new boxes coming from PoM that give 50 to a resist and stack at that matter the resists may not be important. But I do know for a fact that a level 60 bard in Full Skyshrine and BD resist gear singing his awesome resist songs can easily get himself up to 255 MR
Resist dont matter.
# Jun 16 2001 at 3:26 AM Rating: Default
At the lvl you can get hold of this bp, a resist difference of 4 or so does NOT make it better. The kael bp is better if not only because it has higher ac, which is KING stat no matter what. The reason i say resist isnt a huge deal byu the time you can get this is, you should be able to get 200 in ANY resist without this bp. I can personaly can get 200 in any of the resists, and none of mine at any point go below 150 with resist gear on. But anyways the +4mr doesnt make up for the ac you gain on kael bp. Both are great bps and im pretty sure for most its going to come down to what faction the guild of the person is going with. If you get either bp SS, or kael you should be proud they basicly identical but if possbile get the kael.
oh well.
# Jun 15 2001 at 9:00 AM Rating: Default
compared to kael one its just a matter of AC v/s Saves . both are extremely important , it justs depends of the Mob youre waving at.

Mainly, these are the same and the only things that make Skyshrine armor better are some of the resists such as svm10 vs svm6 but mainly Skyshrine armor is a bit worse. And I have to agree with most Warriors (which I am one of) that ac is king. (also, please don't be mad but I am a little biased because Giants are fellow followers o` Rallos Zek).

To Avenea, you are kind of being simplistic, when you are in ToV you sustain far more damage from AoE fire cold etc then you do from melee damage, this is the case in many raid situations, in this context, skyshrine quest armor is infact better then kael armor. It has higher stats, larger hit point additions and lots more stamina which also adds hit points, all at the cost of maybe a total of 50 ac for a warrior or paladin etc. And you have access to quests in ToV that result in items with insane ac and stats which will narrow any ac gap there may be with kael armor. Since people that are on kael faction will not have access to these quests, they will have to use lesser items in those slots and therefore end up with nearly identical ac. Verant seems to have been very deliberate about this scenario and all the folks that assumed giants would be able to compete with dragons for quality of quested items are in error in my opinion.

Guild Factions
# Jun 07 2001 at 4:41 PM Rating: Decent
It's interesting to note that with so much attention being paid to faction with SoV that I haven't seen guilds responding to this in their raid parties per se. Although I'm no expert and have not even hit the planes yet, it seems that raids are still focussed on killing everything.

I guess faction concerns are relatively new (and *much* bigger concern) since SoV arrived but I'm interested in knowing if there are guilds out there who are breaking up their raiding parties along faction lines to be able to work both side of Velious. I'm planning on aligning with the dragons and killing giants. It seems others are interested in the same (to some extent).

If you are in a raiding guild that has begun to do this I'd love to know about it.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 03 2001 at 10:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just to let you all know if your not Ally with CoV then you can forget going after this BP. First off you will have to get the gems for the BP, second you will have to take a well balanced group of 30+ into ToV and have Ally faction with CoV. If you miss one of the last two requirements then all you will be able to do is look at it on-line. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are many guild that chose badly when SoV came out and are kicking themselves in the rear because they picked the Giants to ally with. And now they can't get their faction to change. Since there are MEGA UBER quests coming out of ToV that you need to be ally of CoV to do the quest. I hope this helps out..oh and yes ToV ROCKS its my favorite zone in the game. I love the pretty green carpet.

This is about the same AC as cleric Kael BP which is sad, I feel sorry for guilds who choose the dragon route as they are missing out big time, unless they are only doing it for their casters and getting Kael for the tanks.

If your amazed by the AC, don't be too much, because when you see the warrior Kael bp it will be even higher. This is the Skyshrine bp, and the thing is that the Skyshrine quest armors are really for casters and a bit less for hybrids as the AC for Kael armor is higher while it's stats are lower! So remember when you're looking at this stuff, if you see that... say a mag piece of armor has low int or mana, look at where it comes from, if it's a class specific Kael quest check its ac.... then you'll see why the stats are low.

Chriztian, keep up with what happens. Kael armor has been upgraded. I'm rather disappointed at this breastplate. My (cleric) breastplate from Kael is AC 55 (Templar's Chestplate), so I really do consider this breastplate an insult to warriors, even if it *is* from Skyshrine (which is truly casters heaven).

# Apr 03 2001 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
I believe all the Kael armor was upgraded in a recent patch.
The breastplate is now 59ac (stats are as they were).
All this armor is aimed at the high end of the game so its up to you if you decide to go for the Kael or Skyshrine armor. You can chose which attributes you need the most (Saves, AC, stats).
AC is always nice but over 1100ac, benefits are debatable.
