This permanent effect seems to be true. I removed the spell icon in effects window and the visuals did not vanish. So you donot have to waste an effects slot to have the graphics. It does not however add any stats that it claims, at least not that I noticed.

This buff used to last about 20 minutes. I've had it running for over 2 hours now.

For the past few weeks I have not seen a particle effect come out of this item. No more flames dancing around my character :(
It still takes up a buff slot called 'Pyrilen Aura', but other than that it does not seem to have any function what-so-ever.

I AM SAD

I got the new Omens of War expansion for Christmas and was so excited to get a new item for the game. When I got in and typed /claim I was expecting something useful like the weight reduction bag from LDoN claim. How sad was I when this trinket popped up. It has no real purpose in the game unless you are first level. Any established character would already have something much better in their range slot.
So, I have something to say to sony " How sad ".

As a clickie its rather nice for taking up that first buff slot if you are fighting a mob who dispels the first buff you have. Just because they don't give a new mount or a WR bag (the LDoN one wasnt great by any means there was already much better out) doesnt mean the item is useless.

No Graphic ... cloth necklace again

I get a cloth necklace graphic for this item in inventory. Had a similar problem with LDoN augments when they came out. I fixed those, but I cannot remember how. =\

Anyone remember how to get the right graphic to show? I already added the new dragitem.tga files and updated my EQUI_Animations.xml file, so suggestions past that would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I just got out of a chat session with a SOE rep and I asked them about this item. She said that it is not much more than a party favor. It sparkles and has a few stats... that is it... kinda dissapointing... but what can ya do?
King and Queen maybe
# Nov 04 2004 at 11:38 AM Rating: Decent
could it be possible that these two items are block the AE for King and Queen of the same names.... in Riftseekers Sanctum?
Pretty Lame IMO

My Subject says it all, I wish it was maybe an invis versus element Fire/Ice like maybe the two different names of the shards, invis versus the mobs that associate with them....
That would be useful.

Both Shards

Here's an idea:

SOE made the effort of creating two in game items, the Burning Crystal Shard and the Frozen Crystal Shard, with two effects, Pyrilen Aura and Gelidran Aura, with two different particle effect graphics.

They also added an NPC, with dialog, that can swap out each item. His name is Bertrand Bibblesworth.

It seems like a lot of effort was put into this.

My idea is to use both items simultaneously and STACK the effects. I tested it, and it can be done. You can be covered in flame and snow at the same time. You'll also have around 10-12 minutes to see if anything happens with both Pyrilen Aura and Gelidran Aura going concurrently.

Time to test my theory...

Just curious how you went about getting 2 when they are no-drop and self only. You have to trade one to get the other so exactly how did you get 2 to test that they stack? This sounds like fiction to me.

Stand next to the NPC that trades them, click one. It now has a duration on you. Turn in yours for the other one, and click that one. You now have both effects.

Indeed there is some effort in putting this NPC for simple toys. But I have looked up for Gelindran and Pyrilen (names of the effects of both shards) in Allakhazam's spell search and I found other spells with the same name (for example Gelindran's Anger) that improves dmg of fire or cold based spells. These spells also have different upgrades still using the same name going from 25% to 50% I think. So there must be some quest to upgrade the shards to those spell effects. Just my 2 copper

Likely this will play a useful part in a quest, similar to the staff claimed from retail purchases of Gates of Discord. (The faction modifier off that staff is a huge help in the BiC quest.) Considering that all of the content of Omens is aimed at upper end characters it would indeed be rediculous if this claimed item stays a "what you see is what you get" item.

This is actually VERY useful for any character. Ever hear of junk buffs? ppl pay couple hundred thousand plat for AoN which gives you an extra junk buff slot (amongst cool skelly look) so think of this as a free addition to your raid bag =D

also the visual effects of these do not stick after you have zoned, you need to recast to see the visuals again

actually the Ammy of Necropotence goes for so much because it allows you to turn off the new models, and still use a horse.

old models dont have "toon+horse" graphics, but the skeleton model does. thus, your 400lb troll shammy can simply click the AoN, then click his mount item, and boom, no lag from new models, with mounted mana regen.
fun effect
# Sep 15 2004 at 4:29 PM Rating: Decent
effect simply makes fire/ice particles shimmer around you =)

edit: can be handed in to the gnome by the tree near the nexus stone for the cold effect one

Not a damage shield. I cast it on my rogue and fought a mob and got no damage shield message.
