Someone did a detailed testing and concluded the consuption rate does NOT change with and without the plains pebble. So it's only a myth. Don't waste your time with this
Does not affect food or drink...
# Aug 25 2008 at 1:19 AM Rating: Decent
It isn't a myth...it just no longer works. :)

I had a plains pebble which reduced consumption. It did work several years ago when I was playing EQ constantly, but I took a few years break from the game and recently came back. Now, the pebble does not reduce food consumption. Has food/drink code changed perhaps?

Either way, plains pebbles did used to reduce consumption.
Slot

Will the food/water consumption be lowered if you have it in a bag? Does it have to be in the same bag as the food? Or does it have to be in an inventory slot?
Must have for a Horse/Dino
# Apr 16 2003 at 4:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Anyone who's spent a lot of time on a horse or dino knows that mounts burn through food and water like crazy. Sounds to me like this is a must-have item for horse or dino riders.
Can I sell a Pebble?
# Apr 16 2003 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
Forgot to mention that when couldn't be bothered foraging for pebbles (forage at 200, enthusiasm at 0) I often buy them in bazaar for 4-5pp for unimbued and 10pp for imbued, yes thats 100pp a stack for imbued pebbles. so all you lowbies start collecting em and selling in bazaar (competition will drive the price down ....maybe hehe)
What it is really for....

I am a 191 Tailor and 200 Fisherperson, I use the imbued plains pebble for making the Blessed Fishing Rod for the Protection of the Cabbage Quest. The Imbued Plains Pebble is used to make the Blessed Dust of Karana by combining it in a forge with a Jar of Acid and a Celestial Essence (not sure on pottery triv for this but mine is at 181). The Blesssed Dust of Karana is then used for making the Lucky Cabbage (one of the 9 PotC Gifts) by combining in mixing bowl with a foraged Wild Cabbage, these sell in Bazaar for between 75pp and 150pp. It is also used to make the Blessed fishing rod by combining with various other ingredients in a fishing tackle box (these ingredients are: Branch of Planar Oak (foraged); Spool (manufactured): Treated Silk Fibres (manufactured); Celestial Essence (manufactured) and; Blessed Dust of Karana (manufactured). The Blessed Fishing Rod sells in Bazaar for 900pp to 2000pp (on Innooruuk Server). This has been my main source of income for the last 12 months and has allowed me to buy some really nice gear 8).
what i've heard
# Dec 17 2002 at 3:27 AM Rating: Decent
I've heard that a non-imbued pebble only helps your water consumption, but that an IMBUED pebble will lower your food consumption as well.

I haven't tested this, all I know is that I've carried an imbued pebble in the main inventory slot of every character I've played and it's helped keep my food and drink around a LOT longer.

Of course, now that Verant has added 'timers' on the food and drink in the game (hearty meal, etc), I don't know.
what is the deal?
# Nov 03 2002 at 5:46 AM Rating: Decent
ok.. what is the deal???? I have been off of EQ for like a year... now with that in mind, with this in inventory (in the food bag) it would slow consumption.... now it is not... what is the deal? from reading the post here, they can be imbuned? if so, do they need to be imbuned to slow foor rate now? drop me a line at djtrig2001@yahoo.com if you know
the pebble
# Sep 04 2002 at 5:44 AM Rating: Decent
my question is does the pebble do anything mebtioned above? I just started a character and with a forage skill lvl of 9, a pebble popped up. Now the vendors I've come across won't buy it and if it does slow food consumption then it is worth keeping...Is there any other uses for it...besides the shackle quest?

My level 42 druid of Karana forages these all the time in the Karanas. I imbue them as soon as I remember to, hehe.

He has been all over the world, and he has NEVER ever seen a vendor offer anything for these, imbued or not. Yes, if some other person was desparate for one, I would probably sell them for a plat a piece, but since I can get them easy enough, and imbue them easily enough, I personally would give them away. Windru has a tailoring skill of 140, too low to make Imbued Vale Reinforced Leather Armor. But he has 50+ Imbued pebbles stashed away on mules. That is why I think this is something to give away and not bother charging 1 to 5 plat for.

Food Consumption was something I never considered about these; as halflings, Windru and Cibbas would seriously consider carrying this to slow their food intake.

Thanks for the info about this )

An IMBUED plains pebble does indeed slow food consumption...but I'm not sure if an un-imbued one does or not...one was given to me by a druid friend, and my food consumption has gone down dramatically. Just my 2cp, for what it's worth...

With the last patch that affected foraging, it was listed that you can now forage rare items like this below 100, just easier to find them if you have a high skill.

I can confirm that you do NOT need to be a master of foraging to find these. I foraged 2 in the space of an hour in NK wih a skill of 83.

Just my 2cp...

I've only got a Foraging skill lvl of 32 right now but have been foraging these since i got to NK with a lvl of about 22, so yes, u can get them at lower lvls now. So far after only about 4 hours game play i've gotten 7 or 8...

My forage is at 108 and when I foraged these I noticed that my food and water comsumption dropped considerably. I am foraging more than enough food and water for myself now that I have this, where as before I was just keeping up with my consumption.

It does not have to be in a general inventory slot, it can be kept in a bag to work.

food !
# Jul 26 2001 at 7:23 PM Rating: Good
I have done EXTENCIVE <SP> research with food use and found that i avrage about 1 ration ever hour without the pebble and 1 ration every 3-4 hours with the plains pebble in a general inv slot.... this was done for over a month and just to let everyone know I didn't belive that it would work at the begining of this experiment. you can take this info for what you will....just my 2cp

Food
# May 28 2001 at 9:05 AM Rating: Decent
A guild buddy of mine gave me one of these, said put it in the bag you put your food in because it reduces the rate of consumption. So far, I gotta agree it has deffinatly slowed it, couldn't give you a figure by how much tho.

these items are indeed for cultural tailoring by halflings who warship karana hense they are foraged in,...you got it! karanas well anyways, i am a halfling master tailor and i need these to furthur my skill, if you are a halfling druis and do not have the imbue plains pebble spell i will buy it for you so you can stack and save them for me, and we can nagotiate a fee for stacks or them individually, they are foraged and with my forage skill i get them quite frequently so the post of 5pp is insane, i have never gave more than a pp or 2pp per stone ,.imbued would be worth a bit more so i dont have to med while i get the 200 mana it takes to imbue them,.anyways give me a tell if you are on vazaelle and have some

Plains pebbles and vale armor
# Mar 03 2001 at 9:28 PM Rating: Default
This is hearsay, but from what I consider to be a reliable source.

Halfling druid tailors (maybe others too) can make some armor called vale armor or some such that has wis buffs on every piece. Plains pebbles can be imbued with a druid spell (to make imbued plains pebbles 8)) to form a component part of this armor.
Plains pebble foraged

I was in South Karana and foraged this. Don't know what it's good for though. My forage skill is at 106, so maybe you can forage after 100.
RE: Plains pebble foraged

Well. A little more proof for all of you.

I have forage at only 15 (half elf druid, don't get it naturally) and I foraged this up by the farm near the lake in West Karana.

Did you get that? ... Skill 15 and I got this pebble.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 12 2001 at 4:37 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Does this effect stack you think? Like more pebbles equals less and less consumption?
plains pebble and food
# Jan 16 2001 at 11:10 PM Rating: Default
it is rumored and i happen to believe that if you keep this in a general inventory spot, you can go longer before consuming food and water, or at least consume them much slower.
