this is a fine weapon and also very nice when you dual wield two ^_^ this weapon is reallt meant for bards, rangers, rogues, and maybe warriors in the off hand. a warrior should really look into some bigger damage, maybe a 2hs weapon. Paladins and SKs too. Great weapon for bards before and after it procs, but watch your aggro. Rangers are great with a yak in each hand, because secondary tanks need to do damage and peel MoBs off casters. a yak makes a nice off hander for a rogue, dual wielding is not really advised as it creates a huge amount of taunt with the procs, and if the MoBs facing you, you cant backstab.the price is right on this weapon too, around 500-800 on quellios. any feedback is aprreciated.

A rogue dual wielding these and making the mob face you doesn't stop any backstabs, since you can't backstab with anything but a piercing weapon anyway.

true that bards shouldnt use this. they will get killed within seconds if the weapon were to proc. And for rogues... a weapon that would totally kick *** is one that invokes fear :D bust up a julius caesar on the mobs :)

What? I am a bard who has been using this since level 25 when I received two as a gift. This rocks and has never caused me to suffer because of it. I think a bard weilding two of these bad boys rocks, not to mention looks pretty hot doing it.

I have a Wurmslayer in Primary and a Shimmering Partisan in Off Hand (17dam 39del Piercer + 10Str +20Dex +10 Fire +10 Cold! Weight 6.0) - These two in tandem really kick some ***!. (Warrior Only Though)

Word of Advise though, Have STA over 100 if weilding this and a Wurmy, then you dont have to worry about stamina dropping.

I agree with Khallim that you should try to go fast in the primary and higher dmg in secondary. Despite what Kollins posted (he is right, there is no connection between primary delay and secondary delay as is sometimes posted), primary speed is important because you're rolling on primary hits far more often than on secondary. In order to get a secondary roll, you must have passed the dual wield role which, according to what I've seen posted, tops out at skill max (pre-lvl 50) at around 50%. In other words, your offhand is a 50/50 at best until you get into the high levels. Your primary hand will get many more rolls; if you get to roll more often, you will keep the agro easily amongst a group of hybrids and monks, an important job for a warrior. A warrior's main job is to tank (ie take damage); wizards, rogues, hybrid fighters and the like have the doing damage part of the job.
As a 35 ranger who uses wurmslayer, it is easy enough for a good tank with fast primary to keep the agro. My damage is generally much higher per hit and perhaps a little bit higher over the course of a battle but the warrior generally has 300-400 more hit points than i do making the cleric's job much easier.
I'm told (though I have no characters higher than 35) that when the serious damage bonuses kick in later in life, a weapon like SSoY could give wurmy a run for the money by the increased number of rolls alone.

As I said above, Vengar, if you are a Warrior, get a Kunzar Ku'juch, it goes in Secondary too, however, ditch the Wurmy, wurmys suck! They cost too much, and the delay is too high. If you have a Wurmy, the offhand needs to be as close in delay as possible, because offhand delay does not matter sqaut! The primary Delay is what matters in a fight, so you want your primary to be the low delay weapon, and your offhand to be the high dmg weapon, but still low delay. Take my advice, get a Kunzar' Ku'juch for 1200, sell your Wurmy, put the Kunzar in Primary, and get a higher dmg weapon for your Secondary, but still with a delay below 24, like the Velium Short Blade, Icepaw Warclaw, Stormfeather Talons(although these are kinda low dmg) etc. Get a weapon in offhand with 9+ dmg and 24- delay, that will be perfect. Granted, Warrior are not dmg dealers, but being able to put out dmg is always good.

Khallim where do you get your rumors? Having used weapons of significantly different delays with a ranger, a rogue, a bard and a warrior I'd have to say that main hand and off hand delays have no link. I do agree that the yak has a slightly overrated value which stems mostly from the fact that it was one of the best weapons in the game prior to Kunark and Velious releases. I also agree that the Ku'juch makes a good warrior weapon due to the lower delay and the proc of engulfing darkness since the snare part of that could save a warrior's life some day and it has a much better taunt factor than the ykesha proc.

I just got one of these for my warrior. I use it off hand, with Wurmslayer primary. The 75dd is weak compaired to weapons nowadays, especially when you look at the average dmg of a weapon like a Wurmslayer, but the effect (graphic) is great. Pretty good for taunting as well. Plus the ratio isn't that bad really when you figure in the DD proc, but for the money you can do a lot better elsewere I think. Warrior is 37 now, I plan on using it till about 40.

Ok at lower lvls a wurmslayer is good where tanks do alot of the damage but at higher lvls you want a faster weapon. Wurmslayer has a better ratio then the warriors epic but warriors use there epics because they will get more aggro if they hit it more often and thats all that matters at higher lvls.

"Ok at lower lvls a wurmslayer is good"

OMFG I wish people would stop saying that or a least explain it a bit ... Next time I see a single digit char in the EC running around with a Wurm I'm setting up a button for "/em rolls on the floor laughing as %t slices his wurm off"
If anyone is listening here's how the wurm works with the damage cap
Lvl 1-9 : 9 dam / 40 delay
Lvl 10-19 : 14 dam / 40 delay
Makes the SSoY look pretty sweet, huh?

Have you got any idea what you are actually talking about? You are a tank, the tanks job is not to dish out damage but to receive it. No one cares how much damage you do with your Wurmslayer - which btw is a very average weapon and much over-rated.

Taunt is EVERYTHING to a warrior, damage is not. The Ykesha should be in your primary slot not the other way around.

A tanks job is to keep mobs off the caster, not neccesarily to absorb dmg. The more dmg he puts out the Faster he kills it and the EASIER IT IS FOR HIM TO TAUNT STUFF OFF YOUR CHAIN NUKING A$$. Think before you speak I would hate for you to embarass yourself again.

I have to agree with cikartiz bud, and btw, no need to get nasty. Its just a game. Acting the way you just did makes you seem like the comic book salesman from the simpsons. Chill. At high lvls the only thing a tank is is a lineman. Yes, you are there to do damage, but you cant come close to dealing the damage that a wizard at the same lvl could. Speed keeps the aggro on you and the wurmslayer is not for speed at all. The damn thing sure hits hard and has a great ratio, but you wont see many lvl 50 warriors walking around with one if they play in groups a lot with casters. Sure, if you are in a group with a bunch of tanks, Wurm away. Your whole group might as well have one each. In that case the mob will die fast anyway and you dont have to worry about who its aggroing on, but then again when do you see 6 warriors walking up to a dragon. In a balanced group, you need a caster, and in that case, you need speed behind your blade. I know you dont like it, but its the truth, hehe. You chose to build up a warrior, and with that you chose a warrior's responsibility. I would be very wary if I was a cleric/wizard doing or helping with an epic and the primary tank in my group had a wurmslayer rather than something that hit the mob 15 times before the wizard even got a cast in.

I'm a 35 ranger and I stopped pursuing the wurmslayer long ago because I knew I would eventually need these more if I fought in groups.

OK here is my opinion. I think wurmslayer is a great weapon from 20 or higher. Yes there are many better weapons out there but. You put on a FBSS and get celerity on you with 1 cleric who can replinish your fatigue.. i am gonna tell you somethin i can deal out more dmg with my dwarven warrior with it then wizards mages or any caster under 44.. that and my offhand weapon together. Yes there are downfalls to everything and really this swordsword would be better with a faster primary but is nice to have in offhand as well till you can get your 13 damage lower then 25 delay weapons. Personally i use Wurmslayer with Coldain Velium Pick 12dmg/29dly i personally prefer depending on dmg and not procs. the pick has a proc but it sucks. Its just a matter of how you play your chars and what you prefer. When you choose a group and are a wurmy lover then go for an appropriate group with chanter or shaman and someone who can extinguish fatigue. I havent had any problems taunting off and usually just turn around smack em a couple times and they aggro right on me np and go back to killing first one while i play the meat shield and deal out some dmg. I do have to agree though that if in a major group of casters faster weapons.. it just depends on how you play your tank. Warrior isnt my primary i play Mage primary. Well hehe good luck on gettin your yak. personally i wouldnt buy one would just camp it out with friends but good luck to ya.

from what i've heard and read, post-40 warriors using a wurm are screwed, 2 lams are better. faster and they get a dam bonus i believe. besides, damage doesn't do much for hate, only how often you hit. for example, you attack a young shardwurm (dunno if that is name) with a wurm, you slash a young shardwurm for 75, 80, and 69 in 1 and a half minutes, using double lammy's you slash a young shardwurm for 25, 30, 23, 29, 20, 19, 28 in the same time and the young shardwurm is gonna hate you more then the man using the wurm. just my 2cp worth.

Actually damage DOES play a part in agroing mobs, even if only briefly enough for the speed demon to take it away. Personally I use a throneblade of Ykesha at the moment until I get my Lord of Pain Khurki, and even though she's slower than molasis in december, she hits like superman and anything Im attacking instantly turns its head and fists upon me after I double whack it for 120 each. So damage DOES have a factor in this, even if it is small, and that small amount may be enough to save that rezzing cleric's *** or that cannon of a wizzy ya got....oh btw, I love this weapon, plan to twink a warrior soon with one of these and a Kunzar Ku'juch soon.

Sorry to say it but you just said something incorect you are the meat shield at high lvls. The wurmslayer is not for the uber lvls that are going to TOV or any place like that. Warriors can hit so hard at high lvls they do much more damage with 2 fast weapons. I know this because i have been in the big raids and the primary tank will use faster weapons. Look at the drops from TOV they are low delay 10-15dmg so dont post stuff like that unless you know what you are talking about its just garbage.

Until these start processing they are pretty mid-to-low level these days. Once they start processing they are good for a few levels but still not great. 8/24 come on thats pretty weak. I like the smoldering brand for a twink weapon 9/22 and proc at level 1 (not a big proc) and used by all (paid 900pp). For slashers the 11/29 icetooths claws for around 300pp or less are pretty hard to beat as well, and there are other velious slashers with simillar stats to duel weild.
FARMING SOLVED
# Jun 11 2001 at 4:05 PM Rating: Default
A simple petition to a GM can solve the prob.... According to conversations with three different Gm's all camps have to be shared and rotated with the partys or groups wishing to camp any Mob.. an example.. three groups show up to camp the AC on the island , according to the GM's the three groups will have to rotate the camp each taking a turn killing the said Mob ... so if this is correct then all you have to do is show up with your self/group and ask to be put in the rotation. should this be contested by the group or groups already there, just petition .... keep in mind this breakes tradition as most people respect camp rights (within reason)and you might find that some people have long memories.. but in the case of farming this may be the best cure ....

I can't imagine that invoking play nice would work very well on any server. The group you are forced to share with will definitely have a tendency to drag your name through the mud. Despite me not liking people camping stuff that is way below their level I would never pull a PNP on them. I think that the play nice rules are disgusting and once I've done all the hard work of breaking a camps spawn I would be extremely irked if someone pulled it on me. It was in fact pulled on me once in Lower Guk, in Frenzy of all places - we shared as instructed by the GM but the opposing group was shouted down and the whole zone joined in to the point that the group disbanded and the die hards finally run out of the zone in disgrace. This is not something I would advise if you value your reputation on your server.
RE: PNP not the right answer
# Aug 10 2001 at 12:01 PM Rating: Default
From what I understand (which admittedly doesn't mean much) people are still to respect camp rights if there was clearly someone there first. The only time you would have to share is if there is disagreement about who got there first.
Just my 2cp.

Nice, but it don't work on the server I'm on. There, there's at least 3 guilds that only respect the GMs because that's the only thing preventing them from turning it into their own private server. They've been known to have people blatantly KS others (Raster camp in LGuk seems to be a popular one), loot, and log before anything happens to them. And no, I don't mean that it's a monk doing the KS'ing. Usually a druid or a wizard.

once you mention 'GM' when there is one on...people tend to follow rules.

Ok guys there a bunch of posts of farming here so lets add one more. There are four basic objections to farming:

(1) stuff is always camped so you can't loot it yourself and are forced to buy;
(2) prices go down so people that bought or traded for one, or looted one in the past are selling theirs for much less than it was worth when they acquired it;
(3) People that are farming are not putting the weapons back in circulation but are twinking them, making it hard to get the item at all and irritating you because their level 5 warrior has better stuff than your level 40;
(4) The farmers are taking up all the good exp camps for your level and not getting exp themselves (if you are getting exp for the kills its not farming).

Number 4 is the one that bothers me. Farmers are monopolizing areas that could be providing good exp and some loot to full parties. Even though EQ is a big world, with many of the servers having 2500 or so people logged in there are a limited number of good places available to camp without having to travel. If you are a teleporter or have one at your convenience its not so bad. If you are not, then shopping for a port takes time and money. These farmers are using up the dungeons forcing us to find somewhere else to go, maybe travel two or three times to different spots in order to find a group. I'm a paladin and its hard enough to find a group, so farming in lower guk where we are more valuable and exp can be very good is especially irritating.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 01 2001 at 12:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I think it would be so much funner if Lore and No drop would be taken out from many items. One part of this game being fun is being able to buy or sell items to others. Just my opinion, hope I am not the only one that has this view.

A way to end farming
# May 20 2001 at 8:54 AM Rating: Decent
The way they did the warrens looks like a pretty good way to end the farming problems of everquest... once you reach a certain level to a certain mob, the certain drop the farmer is farming will no longer drop, at least this pushes higher levels to higher areas to farm for awhile, so they can't constantly stay in one spot and keep others from having a chance at the loot. I like the way they did the warrens, and I hope they input it all over the game. Yes it would end my fun times at crushbone cause even at level 51 I so enjoy ripping Dvinn's *** for the many times he kicked my butt when I was a lower level, and scoring his dirk many times over, which actually instead of selling I gave many away. But, even in the case of the warrens there is still a way farmers can continue to farm the same areas since we all get eight characters, if they were so inclined they could just keep creating characters and speed leveling them to the level required to continue the farm. Seems there's always a way to exploit the game in some form or fashion, but, those aren't gamers, I don't really know what you would call them, personally I don't get any fun camping the same thing over and over and over again just for some plat to buy something more expensive that only most farmers can afford anyways, some glorious bragging rights, big deal, imo braggarts are nothing more than losers in life for the most part and if one gets some sort of satisfaction from farming and bragging well then that's their thing and they have their own right to their thing I guess. The one good thing about farming though as I've seen is that it does drive down the prices of things and instead of paying thousands of plat for something I get most items I buy pretty cheap and that's the only part of farming I can enjoy and for all the rest that can't get to camp a place because of farmers, well, do what I do, just go where you can make money or take up a trade and just enjoy the cheaper prices from those that farm and don't get much more out of the game other than a session of the same ole same ole.

> The way they did the warrens looks like a pretty good way to end the farming problems of everquest...

Don't think so. A twinked monkey can take on most of the zone at even con to the target mob. Watched a level 23 monkey take the shaman, and king (although the king's HT went to a tank... as planned) I'm sure a twinked out war/pally/SK could do it also.

Also, a 37 monkey was soloing muglwump by pulling him up front and beating him senceless. He still got xp from the tadpole, and got loot dispite the fact it was an easy kill. Plus the no-drop loot was looted by level 3 alts he had parked outside the entrance. Same idea for prince. A level 20something player can single-pull the prince and beat him down easy solo. We pharmed the warrens for about 6 hours one day on Zeb and made over 1k with a level 22nec and 26SK. had a buttload of BLS, CotF, etc. I even got the really cool looking soiled evokers robe for myself. The warrens loot rules are non-effective except because of all the NO-DROP and LORE items. LORE items are easy to get around, but the NO-DROP kills pharming. btw. when newbie groups came for the prince, we let um have it... There are too many things to kill in this under-used zone to get pissy about one spawn. Funny that the prince drops one of the nicest items here. (Cloak of the Forlorn 700pp->1k on Zeb)

The Warrens code is kind of annoying if you ask me. I spend a lot of time to level sometimes days for 1. I have never "farmed" anything in my life, but I do like to go to dungeouns when I greatly outclass every creature there. I personally despise dying as Im sure everyone does. In a dungeoun dying chances are upped quite a bit. If I wanted to solo a mob at lvl 36 for an item I needed and it was lvl 34 for instance. The amazing amount of mobs in the general vacinity of this mob would overwealm me even though I could take the mob solo. If I wait till I am lvl 40 so I can clear the area, am I a farmer? Im sorry I dont wish to spend 5 more hours gaining back all the xp I lost. Making more items lore is just fine with me and seems like the best solution to the problem. I dont think the warrens nonsense fits the RP role too well either, If I was a more seasoned adventurer and I killed a Kobold with a staff on him does that mean an unknown forces would make it dissappear because I was too experienced? Baloney! You could never cover the entire world and loot every item you wanted to at the appropriate lvl anyhow if this were spread everywhere. So what now Im forced to sit in NFP and /auction WTB Beaded Slime Necklace for hours on end? Basically Im being punished for leveling.......that makes a whole lot of sense.....to a newbie. LORE ITEMS are the only solution to this not some retarted code. This code makes it worldwide, Verant will have 50% of its user base the next day.

Another problem is the implementation- you put a great item in one of these and, like in the warrens you have higher lvls keeping that item out of others hands

RE: A way to end farming
# Jun 09 2001 at 1:12 PM Rating: Default
The problem with the Warrens solutions is that some race/classes need to be a pretty high level to travel through an area to get to some of the lower level areas. For example iskars (without getting ports everywhere) need to be about 30 to travel off Kunark (can be done lower, but with great risk) by that time they couldn't get many of the things they needed. This problem could also really mess up quests too, I got 9 out of the 10 items but I now outclass the MOB that drops the tenth, ouch that would hurt.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 19 2001 at 5:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Necros can to use a scythe... it's their epic... I don't remember the exact name, or the number of sites i've seen it on... maybe http://necro.eqclasses.com/ had it on there somewhere.

Scyth of Shadowed Souls (necro epic) is a 1hb weapon. Necros do not get 1hs or 2hs.
lore item? ya, right
# May 19 2001 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
dude, interminst the bickering i caught someone mention making it a lore item. i being a ranger have to say "shut up" do you realize how many of us rangers use dual ykeshas? and do you realize how cool it looks having dual ones? :)

im sorry but if this were to be made lore you have a nice couple hundred rangers banging in verants door, verantknows better. so i think its wise if we all just close the lid on this useless aggression over something so minor.

If you're a Ranger, don't even bother with a SSOY, get a Dragon Horn Yak... you can usually find them for the same price as a SSOY even though they're better, since they're Ranger only, and that always drives the price down. Just look at Ghoulbane! Sweet weapon, insanely overly powerful against undead creatures, but you can buy one for less than 1k because it's Pally only.

Anyhow, I think the SSOY just looks utterly silly, but since I wield a Wurmy in my primary hand anyway, I guess I might as well get two silly looking weapons. ^^
Necro cant use scythe

Necros cant use scythe hehe... the Harvester is not a weapon, you cant hit with it. SO there.

#Anonymous, Posted: May 17 2001 at 7:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) ok to the PUNK BELOW, NEVER EVER flame a class you obviously know NOTHING about. necros can TOO slash...its called A *%&$*#$% SCYTHE YOU MORON!
RE: DOLT!
# May 19 2001 at 2:51 PM Rating: Default
You are an idiot, dude. About the only person that deserves to be flamed is you. The closest thing to a Scythe that Necros can use is a Harvester, BUT THEY CANNOT ATTACK WITH IT. I agree with you, never flame a class you know nothing about, so why are you going off about necros? You obviously know less about them than a rock, so shut the **** up. And as for your quote, that was just stupid. I have a good quote for you,"If you can't say something intelligent, don't say something at all." Well, if this post showed how intellectual you are, I guess you better learn sign language.

Not to correct grammer... shouldn't it be "If you can't say something intelligent, don't say anything at all."
Now I'm not and english major or anything, but that post made me think of how great it is to live in a society where people think that they are smarter than some one, simply because they call some one on a mistake. (If you catch the sick irony in my words, good for you)
REAL DEAL

k, its a 75 point proc, and proc starts at lvl 36. and to the moron who said soemthing about him ebing cool since he was gonna go get it at 19, good damn like. the mob is over 40.

also it appearance is like a sword bent forward half way up, its a type of australian machete in reality. and to the dude who wanted to know this, im suprised you didnt know, theyre really common.
RE: REAL DEAL
# Jul 09 2001 at 6:14 PM Rating: Decent
The SSoY procs at 37 whereas the ranger equivalent, the Dragon Horn Ykesha procs at 36, and yes it is a 75dd, but its resisted quite a bit. Just to help clear it up.

It amazes me that every decent weapon that drops from a mob that spawns in the same place,
receives tons of criticism from anti-pharmers. I myself am an anti-pharmer, but would like to know more about the weapon itself. The way it looks, what it procs, where it's dropped, how it is used in strategies under different circumstances, etc... I'm not upset by the anti-pharmers, I just wish you would find a place to protest more constructive.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 07 2001 at 4:59 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) LOW DOWN ON YK... it's a great wep till bout 35 or so... ratios are not bad and proc is nice .. after 35 there are much better weps with better ratios than the yk.. .. With a dex stat of 152 not buffed and in excess of 160 when buffed and higher with shammy buffs it only procked a couple of times a fight.. never 10 to 15 as stated in another post... (not likely)... by the time it procks you should have your sights on a finer wep .. after 45 you will sell it any way ... not to good to have procking weps at that point (breaks mez and so on.. caster wont like you .. nor will your group)... if you get one cheep and u r under 30 go for it ... if it procked at 20 it would be awsom but by the time it procks your done with it
RE: Low Down on YK
# May 11 2001 at 9:08 PM Rating: Default
Oh and btw the guy who said it procs 10 to 15 times you could tell by his voice was exagerating and just trying to prove that all this wep does is get bards killed because the effect taunts the mobs on them:)
RE: Low Down on YK
# May 11 2001 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
This is about the Worst comment ive heard all nite. Oviouslly you are some newbie that doesnt realize that the proc of the yak is not area affect. It is a dd and doesnt break mezes! I mean come on how stupid can you me... then you say its good till about 35 because of the ratio and PROC??? You must not know then that this wep procs at lvl 37! So how could it really express its potiental at lvl 35? I oviously imo think this wep is good for warriors till lvl 40, rangers till lvl 45, bards till 50 and for rogue id say 37 40 in the offhand(Only because there are much better rogue piercers out there).
-Also this is a old world item and yes while there are other "better" weps out there, for the time invested in camping this item, its price around 800plat, and its ratio/damg its a very nice item.

Does anyone have any advice on whether i should pick this bad boy up at lvl 19? I know the proc is a few lvls away, but i still am in love with the ratio. I also have icetooths, and am wondering if i can use the yak in my secondary slot. THANK YOU! ;0P

For the money you put up for it you could get at least a crystal fiber, or probable something with an even better damage delay. The only thing that makes this weapon worth it is the proc.
RE: Daeveron
# Jul 09 2001 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
The Crystal Fiber stats are 8/26, whereas the SSoY are 8/24, making the SSoy a better Dmg/Delay. You might have been thinking of a different weapon.
