At this date it still tributes for 270 points (worth updating as tribute values have been changed over time --mostly for high-yeild stuff though).

Sells to my guild hall merchant for 238p.

Reading through the much older posts it's interesting to note how this was once a much-desired weapon and even had a smithing path (the Troll-specific reforging) built in to try and update it.

Is the Fabled Short Sword of the Ykesha a replacement of the Old SSOY? As in, if I had a SSOY and then they updated to Fabled, is my old now fabled?

Call me old-fashioned, but I still like the SSoY's. Yes, there's better weapons out there now, but with 203 Dex, these babies hum.

I use them soloing and if I'm MT with a group. If not I'll put them away for less aggro-drawing weapons...but with great sadness and reluctance.

But in my opinion Rangers are pretty much DEX'ers, so proc'ing weapons are their bread and butter.

Ahh, for the momories of the days gone by when Rangers were in their Ivy-etched armor and wicked, crooked short swords. I don't wear the ivy anymore, but I still have a very hard time of giving up my SSoY's.
Something else..
# Jun 05 2003 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
Bah, all you younger folks, don't waste your time. Buy a wasikashi of the frozen sky. Its hits for 2 point less. But it weighs 1/3 of what this one does, procs for more and 15 levels quicker. They sell for about the same. They can also be duel wielded and it is a reward for a quest. they are very common in the bazaar.

RE: Something else..
# May 01 2004 at 7:24 PM Rating: Decent
also an 80-85 point proc. I know because my ranger has 2 int he bank, but the weaker wood elf body just doesnt do well with the low end base damage.... the proc is awesome, but draws a pretty heavy amount of damage. some seem to have more of an agro, like an Obsidian shard seems to draw no additional agro for some reason.... where the WoFS does seem to **** them off, but you have ot love duel weird and 5 procs on a pickclaw gobbie... :) :)

I am lvl 15 HFL ROG - I bought my ssoy for 105pp. The guy I bought it from was short of cash. The traders in the area are offering 170pp. I think I will hang onto this for a long time. (can't wait for it to kick in)

Unfortunately Badar, you'll be waiting a bit :) It doesn't proc until 37.

As to that proccing, as a Bard, I love dual-wielding these (will do so for two more levels until Black Blade of Tormenting kicks in :) ). With 180 unbuffed Dex they proc maybe three times per fight. But, with Katta's Song of Sword Dancing and a juicy Shaman buff, that jumps to five or six.

Not shabby. Not uber, but since I like proccers when grouped (just the trusty drum for soloing ;) ), these are the best I could afford.

Don't think of this as a weapon. Think of it as a tradeskill component. Follow the links above to the HONED SSOY.

Once it's transformed by a troll smith, the SSOY has 12 damage, 22 delay (21 delay if imbued, but then only usable by the 3 evil deities trolls imbue for).

Still has the proc. My warrior currently uses Frostbringer and a veno axe. I hope to replace both with Vengeful honed ssoys as soon as he hits 45 (43 now).

The way I see it, the superior ratio, and DD+ STUN proc should outtaunt the frosty/veno combo fairly well.

I have 5 combines worth of materials, and a troll smith willing to do my combines (I have a near GM smith {234 skill}, but hes human). I'm hoping for two successes.

Anyway, the point is, the plain old SSOY is kind of getting dated, with the 3.0 ratio. However, with the upgrade, the ratio is below 2.0, and it still has the awesome Ykesha proc.

Am I missing something?
# Jan 31 2003 at 5:16 PM Rating: Default
I read about this on a bard thread and had to check it out. Always looking for upgrades for my 55 bard.

I get here and immediately notice the ration... 8/24. My thinking, Am I missing something here? Slow weapon with a crappy damage. Sure it procs a stun and 75pt DD probably twice, maybe 3 times a fight with a bard dex of 175ish. I can EASILY make that damage up with either my troubador's mace or Jagged Blade of Mourning and never get aggro. Now I can see why this has been purchsed for so little. I can't imagine equiping it, even against a caster. Of course, I can interrupt any spell if I see it start casting in time. I can see the random stun as being decent (though a click one would be better). Oh well, so much for finding a replacement for the Jagged Blade.

Follow the links out to the ends of their winding routes and you find these items are end results -- one generic and three deity-restricted -- that can be tradeskilled from the original lackluster dropped Short Sword of the Ykesha:

  • Honed Blade of the Ykesha
  • Vengeful Honed Blade of the Ykesha
  • Hateful Honed Blade of the Ykesha
  • Fearful Honed Blade of the Ykesha

  • Hope that's a little more helpful in divining the ultimate worth (or lack thereof, as you may decide for yourselves) of this item.

Yea you are kinda missin something.. like my predicessor sir rondam said, once upon a time, pre Kunark, there were few swords that could beat this damage delay ratio.. that was back when the SOL Ro quest armors where the bomb, and fine steel armor was a hard comody to come buy. Times when it took no joke, 60+ people to kill naggy and Vox was the closest thing to imposable there was.

It's an old weapon that has out lived its glory days, better weapons drop of 15th level mobs now a days, and in much larger quantities.

My ranger still uses one of these and his spear, just for nistalgia. In short this is a relic from an eariler time (about 3 years ago when Norath was new )

Okay heres the scoop. I have it on good authority that all Ykesha weaps proc at 36. Check out this post. I traded a skyfire for the SS Ykesha and the DragonHorn Ykesha. Awesome combo at 36.

ok i just picked up 1 of these and i also have a dragon horn ykesha. i solo most of the time so i dont worry abt agro will these be good to duel weild ? i have a centi ss right now in off hand. only lev 36 so wont proc yet so im using the centi till then. any problems you think of plase say so . thanks

I made 24 stacks of kiola for some guy and he payed me 360pp and gave me this weapon...I knew it was a good weapon by the stats, but them I see it is lvl 40ish and worth stupid pp. I am amaized and shocked...it replaced my newbie quest sword at lvl 9. Now for my question...what level does the proc start? 20? Should I put this in off hand (after 17 of course) or main...and what should I use with it? Anysuggestions would be great.

I'm a bard, with a Symphonic Saber in my primary and a Centi SS in my seconday. I won the roll for a SSOY at a guild raid and I'm torn: Keep my Centi SS or throw in the SSOY into my seconday slot? Frankly, looks like a toss up to me, I'd appreciate any input.

Personally (I also play a bard) I would stick with the Centi SS for 2 reasons. 1. the str and sta bonus. 2. If you are using the symphonic saber you obviously are trying to avoid agro and the centi generates much less agro than the ykesha. (besides what bard after like 15th really TRIES to get agro, except to peal off of a caster.)
    Hmmm

SSOY is good for damage but proc whacks you up aggro list chronically
Wak procs at 20 if you really want to do dmaage at low level and a wt of 1.0 means even WE rangers can dual all night without yellow drain.

Also take a look at the following cheap weapons
    Netherbian Ungius Pierce 8 25 +2 str +10 hp
Gnoll slayer II 1h slash 15 40 +10 bane vs gnoll +25 disease resist - 2 chargees of campanion spirit - lots of gnolls around ...
    Club of Gnoll bashing 7 28 +2str +2 ag +5mana +5 HP +5 bane vs gnolls
    Drakkel Icereaver 2h slash 24 40 procs 31 point at lvl 30
    Question!
    # Jul 07 2002 at 7:04 PM Rating: Decent
I have a question. I've read the first page on this Yak and have had a history with this weapon Myself. I'm a woodelf Ranger and at level 11 I bought one of these for 40p! then bought a Centi ss for 280p and have been wielding them ever since. The Yak is in My off hand. Today I bought another Yak for 100p and was wandering weather I should sell it or hang on to it till Level 37 to try both together. I'm level 19 now almost L.20 and My Dual wield is maxed at 100 right now. I was fighting in a group last night and with the centi ss and the Yak I was easly doing the same damage as each of the two HUGE tanks with that group. I was a Shredding machine! I'd like to see if two of these would take some BIG Mob apart when I get to My late 30's -40's but thats a long wait. Is it worth putting it back or should I sell it?
Even tho I like My Centi ss the Yak looks a LOT better! those Centi ss look like crap I think.
OH, what the heck kind of picture is that???? Sure ain't no Yak!!
any opinions would be a big help as I find My Ranger is always poor! Thanks.

Damn, wish I had your luck, paid 500 plat for mine, which I beleive was a fair price, only PC'ed two of these before I bought mine, one guy wanted 500, another wanted 700. Auctioned kinda rarely on Firiona Vie, as mine is only the third one I've ever seen auctioned. I love this thing, even with only 8dmg, I still hit mid 30's with it, and it will start procing my next level, which I then hope to purchase a 2nd one. Soon, I wil be the deadest ranger around!!! I am such an aggro puller already, sheesh...I am about to start getting trounced, oh well.

The proc is a 75 pt DD spell plus a 0.1 second stun. If it procs its a guaranteed caster interrupt. With my 41 rogue, 133 DEX, I see this proc at least once and often twice in a fight. It gets resisted about 1/3 of the time vs some mobs like drolvargs. Against giants I rarely see a resist. It really depends on the MR of the mob you are fighting how often it gets resisted.

I can vouch for one thing - this baby draws aggro like no poison I have ever used. I am pretty sure its the Stun portion of the proc that does this. Thank goodness for Evade skill.
