I found this lute by talking to a person in the Bard's guild in Queynos. I can't remember who it was, though. I still haven't completed the quest, but it was to take this broken lute to a guy who can repair it in the Plains of Karana, then return it for a reward.

It's just a component for a newbie quest in Qeynos. You can equip it in your secondary slot like a real lute, but if you look closely you'll see it isn't associated with the bard stringed instrument skill. So...use it for the quest, but there's no reason to keep it around otherwise. It's not a real instrument.
