Many of us are wrapped up in making small, fine pieces for fancy occasions and gifts, but having been in the brotherhood for a while now, I have discovered a new market for our work. Adventurers have
a lot of money. Some of you already know this and you have been working on functional jewelry for this clientele, but how many of you have thought about what an adventurer uses most.
I've started working on a new way to make it easy for a smith to make a more attractive weapon for their
customers. I've been building weapon adornment kits. Created properly, these kits can be handed over to a talented smith, not some oaf, to create the finest weapons.
You'll want to work with enchanted metals, gold, or better, if you can find it. Carefully heat the metal
and pour it into the mold. A good quality crucible is important here, as well as a reliable heat source. I use the ones that gnomes invented. Carefully apply water to cool, but cool the mold, not the metal, or it will spatter if water touches it. When you're done, carefully wrap it up and hand it to a good metal
smith.
You can do the same with the gems. I never combine them, though, I keep the kits separate so that the customer can choose the look he or she prefers.
Of course you'll need a way to protect your jeweler's kit from the heat. I think
I've got that worked out too. I'll write more about that later.
