Kill Everything

Everything seems to share the spawn points in this zone.
I killed everything and had lots of highland lions spawning.
So kills silverwolfs, bears, griffawns, bugs, and normal lions. When you kill it all, the highlands will spawn quite often. I could have 3-5 on track at once when riding around on my ranger shooting everything.

That level 15 suggests a safe level for confronting the lion that sheds this skin. From much experience, however, if one expects to loot the skin it would be a good idea to send in a much higher player because mass numbers of animals must be killed. This is a rare drop from a rare beast.

(29) Low-Quality Lion Skins

(19) Medium-Quality Lion Skins

(2) High-Quality Lion Skins

Just slaughter anything and everything that moves non-stop is the best method to keep the Highland Lions up. 75% of the time they pop from random placeholders near the hill where the tower guards are.

There are several ways to get the highlands and their skin:

1. Be the first tracker in the zone after a update or a zone crash, There are 8 highlands up and 90% of the time one has the HQ skin.

2. Start Watchman Dexlin's quest. It will turn all of the highlands PHs into a tiny skeleton. with normal tracking all of the respawns after that have a good chance to spawn a highland with the HQ skin. Be aware that while there are over 25 PHs for highlands, not all of them will drop the HQ skin.

3. Most of the mobs that go near the guard tower can be a PH for highlands, not all of them will spawn a highland that comes near the tower. There is a PH and highland that roams east to west and back again at the north end of the zone. There is one that goes north and south on the east side of the zone as well as one that does the same on the west side of the zone. Being a bard, I use a song to send them back to their spawn point to locate the right ones that will drop the HQ skin. The one that spawns between the druid circle and the river drops it the most with a > 75% drop rate.

4. Slaughter the zone: take a friend or two with you and kill everything that moves if it isn't human. Keep namers dead helps. I:E The Silver Griffon, Grimfeather, Zahal and Regis, just to name a few. Unfortunately for those of you that are good aligned, two of the farmers are PHs too. To handle that problem, I let grizzlys build up, they will kill the right farmers for you. While the guards near the tower do not kill highlands, several other mobs will. Guard Shilster will kill them as well as Cordilla. (sp).

Normal but not rules: I usually get one HQ skin per 4 hours of hunting. I have seen two drop in an hour and then not another for over eight hours. I have folks say that they have gotten three in an hour , but in hundreds of hours farming the HQ skins for guildies, I have never seen that. Once, on a low population day, I killed everything but highlands. I had over 25 of them up at once. Not one dropped the skin. While there seems to be a highland in just about every mobs spawn cycle, I have seen the HQ Skin drop from only one of eight different cycles, they are two mobs that cross near the tower, the east-west ones and the north-south ones.

I do not claim to know every in and out of the zone, but 9 stacks of HQ Skins in 3 months, leads me to believe I am on the right track anyway.

Good luck and good hunting to you.

Every day I will log in and kill 5 to 8 of these. As long as no one else is killing them, there will be that many up. The reason is simple.
Guard Bartley and Guard Stanard kill 5 to 8 of the Place Holders (PH's) as they wander by. BUT they DO NOT kill the "a highland lion". They let them wander by.
This tell you 1 simple thing, if it roams by the guard house, kill it.

Also, I noted random mobs spawning when I kill "a highland lion" so the PH's are not specific. Even "a hill giant" is a PH. Unfortunately, Guard Bartley and Guard Stanard do not kill them giants so you will have to.

I used track sorted by alpha with Tracking Mastery 5 so I could view the largest possible area. So far, I got 8 pelts in the last 16 days. Not bad, that is a pelt a per 2 day for just logging in and killing nearby the tower. Now to make Prescient Fleeting Quiver and sell in bazaar!

Highland lion
Lion
willowisp *critical to kill these*

beetle *mobs from here down are optional but listed in order I killed them*
wolf
bear
griff

the MOST important after the lion is doing willowisp. I farmed for over 72 hours of time and tried doing batches of mobs to narrow
down spawn rate. On last effort I added willowisp. In first 48hours i got 1 High Quality Lion skin, However once i started
doing willowisp it took only 4hours to get 2 High Quality Lion skin and The spawn rate for the Highland lion has been consistently higher
on the last 24 hours of farming. Since then I have done well over a week of farming and this has held true. I doubt its coincidence and while some will doubt I wanted to share in case it is true. I always want info that may help so here is some :)

P.S. I F*****G hate posts that offer zero help. for example "I killed Named mob".... but no info on how hard it hits where it spawns PH etc.
it's like Why the h*** did you post that???

THANK YOU! This seems to be the ticket. I was getting after the willowisps and seemed to have a pretty good highland lion population. Going to head back tomorrow and hopefully pick up another one. I got my first skin in about an hour.
I must be lucky

I don't know the thoughts of anyone else, but 50k - 300k per High Quality Lion Skin is OBSCENE. North Karana is constantly swarmed with Rangers and Druids now. Nearly impossible to get any of the Lions.

I just tried to farm this for the past 2 hours. A bunch of lions but not one skin. Then the zone started to load up with others. When it started to have 3 other Rangers and 1 Druid, I camped. No SOE for me so they kept out running me to the mobs. ***** that. I'll just wait a couple months when things die down.

I went with the "kill everything that moves" with my 70 druid method, tracking and killing any highland lions asap, and that worked well - I got my high quality lion skin within an hour after maybe a dozen highland lion kills.

I was in NK for about 8 hours today, trying to figure out the PHs. Started with all the lions in zone, then all griffons. Eventually I just got so bored i started killing everything. It seems that anything can be a PH for the Highplains Lion. After popping about 20 or so, I finally got the HQ Lion Skin.

The horrible part is, my friend with 272 tailoring skill failed the 222 triv combine on the Fleeting Quiver. I guess i will be back wiping out NK tomorrow !

i just created a hie ranger. i am at level 20 and though i would go to NK in hopes of finding a HQ lion pelt, because i still get xp from killing the high land lions, any ways needed water so i stoped by a vender, who sold me a HQ lion pelt for for 3 gold coins, did not have to kill a single lion, some noob must have sold it to him for less than that =P
RE: very luck
# Nov 24 2004 at 3:59 PM Rating: Decent
Congratz. You just bought a nearly useless HQ Lion Pelt. The Fleeting Quiver (and Rogue 2.0 Epic) uses the HQ Lion Skin. They are different.

I've heard similar stories from peeps who say they bought uber item xxxx from a vendor for next to nothing, but these all end up being 13yr olds trash talking.

Unexpected Drop
# Nov 21 2004 at 5:35 PM Rating: Decent
Spent several hrs. trying to get one to drop in order to make a quiver for my Ranger. Came back the next day with a friend and spent several more wasted hrs.[:banghead]

Finally gave up and bought a quiver in the Bazaar.[:smile]

Today while getting exp. for my Zerker I was in melee with two scythe beetles and a HL added its self to the battle. After finishing with the beetles I turned my attention to this pesky lion and WOOT WOOT I had looted a HQLS[:yippee]

Now I don't know what to do with it. Make another quiver for an Alt. or sell in Bazaar as the price has gone crazy as this is now an Epic2 item. Asking 100k to 6k pp.[:confused]
SCAM!!!!!
# Nov 20 2004 at 1:10 AM Rating: Default
I did not mean to do it. But hey! I am a lvl 33 Ranger with no money. I scamed a fellow Ranger it to buying it for 5k. I guess it was worth it to them.
SCAM!!!!!
# Jul 18 2010 at 1:21 PM Rating: Decent
Considering the number of rangers needing TWO of these plus those still doing the 1.5 quest, 5k would be a great price now. In fact, I have seen bazaar buyers offering 10k each

It's not a scam, if you sell something to someone, and they know what they are buying, and feel it is worth the price.

It would have been a scam, if you had put the wrong skin in the trade window.

Since fleeting quivers sell for about 10-12k on my server, 5k for the skin probably would attract some buyers.
Lucky me!

drop rate
# Oct 08 2004 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
I can confirm a HQ lion skin does drop in EK...I have seen it drop there two times now...once off a lion matriarch and the other off a rogue lion...but it is EXTREMELY RARE...

The best place to farm this hide is in North Karana off Highland Lions...

I used to make Fleeting Quivers to sell and support my tradeskills...I always went to NK to farm this hide the times I saw it in EK I was farming spider silks, and just happened to get several lions in my AE blast...

But it does drop in EK...it is RARE in NK and even MORE RARE in EK...

Crazy!
# Oct 06 2004 at 1:00 PM Rating: Decent
Yes this is indeed for rogue epic quest, You do need Two of them for the Test of tailoring. However I would like to add that those of you who are selling the pelts for 100k in Bazaar.. Shame on you! To all the Rogues out there who are scouting for the Lion drops, do yourself a favor.. borrow someones Barb mask, buy your bag of gems (14k), and bypass this part of the quest. No way is a HQ lion pelt worth 100k when you can bypass this section for 14k. You vendor crazed people are insane!

Got one by farmer hut
# Sep 24 2004 at 9:19 AM Rating: Decent
Was hunting the farmer hut just about a minute's walk NW of the nexus scion. This area is a pretty dense area to hunt because at most times there are at least 5 mobs (beetles, lions, wisps, griffawns and silvermist wolves) by the hut or on the rocks. Cleared out about 10 different mobs and a highland lion came bounding along, killed a few more and another highland lion showed up and I went to loot it, saw the skin and shouted WOOOOOOOOOT (yes shouted, my girlfriend came over and wondered what was the matter!). For an 18 mage like me, this was a dream drop. Rogue epic excitement hasn't hit the Stromm server yet as the bazaar was well stocked with skins in the 1700-2000pp range, although I didn't see any farmers in the zone both times I was playing. Main point of this note is to try hunting around that hut, if for nothing else that a LOT of mobs seem to spawn here and it will save all of us non-trackers a lot of wandering time.

Highland lions will be a very often hunted mob now that rogues will need 2 HQ lion skins for their epic upgrade. Saw where someone had 2 for sale in the bazaar on E Marr and the listed price was 10K each. Before I left the bazaar, I checked again and 1 had been sold for that price. Can we say OUCH!!

Hello all,

It seems to me that the myst wolves hold the place for the regular lions that hold the place for the Highland Lions. Been hunting there for 6 hours, not a bit of luck.

Did they nerf the drop rate on the HQ Lion skins?

About a year ago they used to sell for 1K on Morelle-Thule. Now They are very rarely for sale in the bazaar and go for 4K.

BTW don't forget to check for a Fleeting Quiver Token if you are desperate. I sold one in the baz today for 5600pp. Hand in token to the Barb lady at the head of the merchant hall in baz.

My tailoring is now up to 167. I hate failing on these!

I have hunted Highland lions in NK for along time.. :( Have killed mutliple stacks of lion skins in Ek and Wk, Sk/ higland dropt the hq lion skin, no other lion. Period. My count on Highland lions is well over 200 and yet to see a hq lion skin. Many hours have been spent looking for one. Luck is all if you hunt them.
