My guild has gotten 2 of these in recent weeks. You can tell because he's holding it when you walk in the room.

If you look at the picture, it says triggered now. It might not have before, but it does now. I have my epic, but if you have ever hunted shrooms in FG, you will know, the 57 Earth pet hardly ever gets slowed or stunned, and I have never seen him turned into a shroom. The epic pet gets turned into a shroom (aka. rooted) alot, and if you over nuke, you have a rooted pet and a nasty shroom chasing you around, hoping your pet gets unrooted before you get rooted. With a Burnt Wood staff (rt click 333 bolt, 13.5 sec casting time) and an Earth pet, I can keep a patch pretty much cleaned and never use mana for nukes. Summon a new pet after each fight and don't waste any mana healing him. I also use mana free fire shield from my ToV robe and mana free BU3 from my pants.

Burnt wood staff is 2hb, this is 1hb, so I can still keep an int or resist item in my off hand. Five casts of this in around 40 seconds will do around 1250 damage, compared to 3 casts of the BWS in 40.5 seconds for 999 damage.

This staff blows the BWS out of the water.

BTW, I was very hard to convince from not using my epic in fg, but had to test it myself and found that the epic way outdamages the earth pet, but when you end a fight with full mana, and summon a muzzle of mardu to use a little mana, then reclaim you old pet for a new one with a enshrouded veil that saves you 30 percent mana on casting a new pet,,, (breath), with a full health earth pet at the end of each fight. (Breath again), hehe. For fighting in FG I put away my epic staff and off hand item for a terrible melee staff, because it has a free mana nuke.

This is a great staff to have when soloing and in a group, if you have a fast puller and need to conserve mana.

Basically it has good stats for mage, disregard of the ratio and proc(cast nukes > melee). But,I still wont use it as main.Zlandicar's Heart is the way to go.
I like the mellee stats
# Feb 03 2002 at 3:11 PM Rating: Good
Okay, obviously at this level Mellee isn't my main concern. However, I do find myself melleeing quite a bit when I solo or travel alone. Stupid undead greens will always pounce on me while I'm walking by or while my beloved pet is busy and frankly,I can't be bothered to waste the mana on these suckers. And other types of mobs will insist on bothering me while I hunt too. I'ts nice to have a decent weapon for those times you can't be bothered to waste the mana. Also, the proc seems to be respectable enough that this could even be a bit of a life saver in RARE circumstances. I woudl carry it for the stats, but the weapon function is not completely lost (would rather see it on a mellee class item though).
hmmmm

well myself I say this sucks... except for the saves.... I would probly still use it on my mage for the saves but myse3lf I never melee

why wouldn't it be real?
# Jan 31 2002 at 12:00 AM Rating: Decent
I don't think you can tell a fake just from the lettering anymore, can't you change the lettering styles now?

besides, this weapon could be 50/10, not important really since mages will still miss 99 times out of 100.

RE: why wouldn't it be real?
# Jan 31 2002 at 12:31 AM Rating: Default
First of all, its not fake, i got one myself.
i even mailed a better looking picture a week ago of it but i guess they decided to use this crappy looking thing.
Second of all, what u think of mages meelee skills are not true, i hit 9 out of 10 hits and with 36 percent haste... well u do the math.
It is however still a toy and mostly good for resists, if i meelee i prefer using my silver dagger of destruction, but the proc is fun though and it procs alot.

RE: why wouldn't it be real?
# Jan 31 2002 at 4:09 PM Rating: Decent
Come on. Not even melee hit 9 out of 10 times. Speaking for Magicians I have my epic and am maxed at 1hb at 110. I barely hit anything exept greens. If you are saying you hit greens 9 out of 10 times then ok. But to hit anything close to that on higher level mobs? No way.
RE: why wouldn't it be real?
# May 16 2002 at 1:23 PM Rating: Decent
Just wondering how much strength do you have? For fun I maxed out my 1hb and offence and had level 60 shammy buff avatar one me as well as many others that maxed out my melee stats even with a modulating rod I was hitting in the 30s and most of the time too, on mobs that were dark blue.

i was vague, i apolagize, let me clear myself up.

most of these casters wouldnt think of meleeing with them, wasting the uber ratio.

also, in response to the first reply. its primary only, and most mages this high will have their epic in the main hand.

most mages this high should have epics in their main? hehe, you dont know much about the mage epic do you?

My friend is correct here, I am a memeber of a guild that is in the top 8 guilds on Emarr some would argue, there are three mages in my guild and as of today, NONE of us have our epics=( It is arguably the hardest epic to obtain and imo the best, nothing will ever replace the ability to summon that pet. So unlike the warrior epic which is useless at 55+, the mage epic is forever until someone finds someehing that allows us to summon dragons to our side.

aye, mage epic does rock much, and is quite certainly one of, if not outright THE hardest. However it isn't a weapon, it's a SPELL that SUMMONS a weapon. and the weapon is no rent like the rest of the mage summoned ******** Which means that even if ya got the spell for the epic, there are gonna be times when it'll be handy to have a back-up weapon. and this baby is one HELL of a backup weapon. this or iceshatterer.... *drool...*

also, even with the epic I would go with this or the ice shatterer and just use the epic for it's charge of manifest elements. The stats on the mage epic are a BIT better than this or the iceshatterer, but not much, and both weapons beat the heck outta it in mele. keep in mind, even on misses there's still the same chance of a proc. with a haste item and decent dex.... even one proc between casts is an extra 300 or so damage. proc more often than that, saying nothing of the damage ya do with the weapon itself...

anyway, just my 2cp. I think what VI is trying to do with this equip is actually allow casters to have SOME skills at mele. I mean look at some of the luclin caster armor that's showing up. I do recall seeing 20 ac caster only arms in there and stuff. granted, none of this adds up to much in itself, but put it together.... MAGETANK!!! BWHAHAHAH!

....ok maybe not, but it'd be nice to be able to deal a little mele damage and take a couple knocks here and there without going down faster than monica lewinski at a presidential reunion.

but do keep in mind that I'm famous for being totally out of my damn mind. So I could be wrong. HEHEHEHEHE

Sorry, yes the mage epic is indeed rentable. I hadn't had any caffine when I wrote that and it must have slipped my mind. I just thank god someone pointed it out in a constructive and considerate manner rather than being a **** about it. Some people woulda used a slip up like that as an excuse to make up for their inferiority complexes by putting down someone else. I just thank god you caught it first Fab.

Anyhoo, the point I was trying to make is that the epic is better than the item above in stats but that this lil baby has the mage epic beat mele wise. Just wanted to point out that tatically, this could be real neato in certain situations.

I disagree, ratio aside I'd use this thing just from the stat bonuses. That and it'd make one HELL of a weapon.

Pretty ok weapon for mages, though not sure how good it is compared to the other items at the level needed to loot it. The resists are pretty nice, +30fire/cold and +10 magic are always good. Also the nice ratio gives em something to do when bored. I'd love to see a mage beating down a mob with his pet(course, they would be suicide, not the mage melee'ing, the mage trying to solo at high levels(just kidding, i think mages are underrated for solo at high levels, and I played a necro to 51 so I should be biased against them.)

For all the crying mages that complain no one wants their pets on big raids due to Verant's incredible pathing. Next time just run up to Vindi and smack the sumbitch :)
