For all you people ******** about INT..u do realize that waaaaaaay backw hen, they gave HYBRIDS the mana calc's of there parent casters....IE, Rangers to druid, SK to necro, pally to cleric... Now! if you understood that a necro gets more mana per INT than a druid or cleric does per WIS, then you would understand why it has less INT than WIS...it ends up being almost the same amount of mana gained...

When I saw your post, I was immediately struck by a feeling of utter paranoia. On one hand, I knew this had to be false for balance reasons. On the other hand, this seemed like just the sort of crap that VI would pull. Since I wasn't positive either way, I pulled out my trust mana calculator and confirmed my original thought. Then, for my own peace of mind, I went to Magelo and created 2 dummy characters (Nectest and Clerictest). Both humans. The necromancer had 100 INT, and the cleric had 100 WIS. Result? Both characters, at level 60, with no gear, have 1320 mana. For good measure, I also created a human paladin with 100 WIS to check his mana total. Result? 1320 mana.

He never said they have different amounts of mana, they just used to, now they have the same.
Weapon is good

To all the people complaining this weapon sucks or it should be better cuz its coming off THO blah blah...this weap fits right in with THO, not only is it a good weapon contrary to what some of the people here are saying, THO is one of the easiest luclin bosses there is, ragh 2 is harder than THO..I have killed THO with 21 people and 3 clerics(one was 54 too) and no I am not in some 'ubah' guild, my guild has done ntov once to gauge what strength our people were, the fight took 23 minutes though heh. Fighting THO is a joke, since his 2 AEs don't stack and he is rooted it is extremely easy to get overfiends fury on your casters and feeblemind on your melee, so in effectiveness all it does is keep your hybrids from casting ;p He maxxes for crap and him being slowable makes it where a druid could tank him. The only hard part at all about this is just getting to him, so for once the risk vs reward scales are tipping in the players favor.

Vulak'Aerr has been in essence taken out of the game as motivation for guilds to raid in luclin and go after mobs that drop similar level items. As far as VI not making items/weapons better in luclin then in velious? Tell me where in velious you can get an 80ac bp with 125hps on it? Typical VI blowing smoke up our @$$es. As far as 1hs for hybrids go theres a sweet 1hs that drops in acrylia challenge circle that IMHO surpasses all 1hs in the game for hybrids.

I don't get this item. THO is one of the new Mega Ultrabosses. Quite a pain to get to and kill. IMO you can get better 1H for SK/PAL of Telk in TOV which is much better and MUCH easier. I have a Blackrock maul of crushing and would not use this. Maul is 23/23 AC15 INT15 HP75 Mana75 and Telk also drops a 24/24 40AC sword for palies. This sword would go to a invite...
RE: ?
# May 30 2002 at 1:06 AM Rating: Excellent
Goes to an invite? If you are trying to impress us.....you have made, um, quite an impression. My impression is that if you would pass on this sword, you are, how should I say, impressive-ly stupid.

I agree with Realghostwheel--if this goes to a invite, then PLEASE INVITE ME.

This weapon will EASILY outdamage Blackrock Maul of Crushing ("BRMoC")--at any level of character (SK in this example). Not only is the raw dmg per sec better, but the primary hand dmg bonus has a greater impact on faster weapons than slower weapons. Hence, comparing this to BRMoC, it will always outdamage it.

Granted, I would probably rather have the fewer, but more significant (to an SK ONLY) stats of the BRMoC, but that in no way would make me choose the BRMoC over this weapon.

The difference between the potential damange of this weapon seems to be greater then the seemingly small improvement in stats (and that is debatable). This is a phenominal weapon--probably the 2nd best 1HS in the game to Soul Defiler

ill just say this, stats mean jack crap in the end thats what buffs are for. the only stats that matter hp(sta included) and resists. tanking classes are the only ones that should worry about having high ac the rest should work on trying to survive thru fights.

This wep is good but if I had to use a 1hs I would still rather use my Soul defiler its 21 dmg 19 dly with Call of Bones effect. This is a awesome pally wep though. I would pass on this.

Personally I'm happy to see that Luclin included some awesome items for sk's and espescially paladins. Paladins tend to be bypassed 50+ and I like seeing some items that will stimulate more interest in the class. But this item is just as great for SKs, and I doubt many of them would pass it by simply because it has "only 5 int"!
RE: Nice
# Jun 13 2002 at 11:28 PM Rating: Default
since when are pallies and sks bypassed 50+, Ive been in ntov last 4 weeks solid(due to the many patches)and more pally/sk weapons drop in ntov than any other class weapons, but as for this weapon yes its very very good, and prolly slightly easier to get than ntov weapons for the smaller guilds. grats to the winners of this fine weapon.
Gosh =(
# Feb 01 2002 at 11:25 AM Rating: Decent
They said at the MN Fan Faire in the Weapon Development Forum that:
"Every expansion we have ended up increasing stats on items, making Kunark drops better than original then Velious better than Kunark ... we are not going to do that with Luclin ..."
Guess I should have been more skeptical. Seems wrong to me that a "Common Drop" from a level 65 mob would be comparable to items dropped by Lord Vyemm and Vulak'Aerr let alone that from one fight you could have a weapon some would say better than the respective classes Epics. Gratz to anyone who gets this however, tis a nice weapon.

*Sorry for complaining*

int vs wis
# Jan 31 2002 at 7:05 PM Rating: Decent
also if you look at most of the pre SoL caster items, there are tons of 10+ int items that are fairly easy to get or are farmed so much they dont cost much. but most 10+ wis items are rare and extremly expensive.
RE: int vs wis
# Jan 31 2002 at 10:42 PM Rating: Decent
Shall we compare the existance of Sentient Plate Armour to... nothing equivalent for Paladins? Sounds about right to me.
RE: int vs wis
# Apr 25 2002 at 6:24 AM Rating: Decent
that doesn't stand to the Iksar sk, who basically wears dreadscale until planes gear.

Still, with the difficulty of Ro quests, it should have planelike stats =p
umm wow
# Jan 31 2002 at 6:17 PM Rating: Default
this would own for a ranger, but for a pally it's still great. the damage/dely ratio is nice and stats are nice too. i just hope they don't nerf it....cuz i'm gonna make a pally to get one >=)
RE: umm wow
# Jul 05 2002 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
Of course this would own for a ranger....the stats and dmg/dly were made with the classes being able to use it not having dual weild in mind, in fact it is stupid that you even posted that.
Pally
# Jan 31 2002 at 5:36 PM Rating: Decent
Well maybe they wanted it to be a better item for a pally, although what SK wouldnt use this even if it had absolutely no int at all? I mean just on the damage delay alone it is absolutely fantastic. And not sure about you but i have always on my characters at least Ranger, Pally, Wizard Necro, found Int a lot easier to increase than wis although it must be said that my wis characters are hybrids.

um ... this is copied from my response to this same poster on the same subject of another item.

"i dont feel screwed

balance is a tricky issue

lowest INT SK is troll at 62
lowest WIS PAL is half elf at 65
now compare the melee stats of both races (mind you one has regen)

highest INT SK is erudite at 117
highest WIS PAL is high elf at 100
their melee stats are fairly balanced yet erudite has 17 more natural mana stat

too many ppl like to walk around cryin about how their class got screwed without considering all the facts. is it some cry for a sympathetic ear or u just trying to convince verant to change through a post on a single item in a forum on allakhazam?

oh yeh, which of the two classes is the more capable soloer?

also i just noticed you are only lvl 31. hang in there and watch your power grow. you will see. "

Heh.

You make me laugh, an SK ******** about this weapon because it's a tiny bit better for pallies.

My main's a warrior. I console myself by thinking "it's cuz they suck and I don't", every time I see a weapon like this I would die for, that are Pally/SK only because warriors would be way too cool with them.

I hate to admit it, but what you said is true. There is a reason why they make completely insane weapons that are pally/sk only, and that is because our offensive capabilities are so far behind every other melee class that we need ridiculously powerful weapons to compensate. If you don't believe me, compare a knight wielding a Windblade to a warrior or ranger wielding one. Both those classes deal much more damage with the same weapon. Yes, we excel in PvP, but that is of little consequence to people on blue servers, and I would much rather be gimp in PvP than be gimp versus npc's.

This sword does have one very nice use, and that is for mowing down undead if you have invested AA into SlayUndead_3. Its essentially a 24dam/20dly weapon versus undead. I usually hit in the 80's-100's with crits in the 120-200 range. Keep in mind that this baby is blazingly fast, so instead of landing one or two hits for 180-250 every round (usually 2-3 seconds) with a Windblade-class 2-handed weapon, I'm getting around six hits of 80-100 with this one. Also, this sword rocks versus most Luclin undead since they like to cast poison/magic/disease spells and this sword has saves for those lines of spells.

Overall, this weapon is very nice. If we get real and compare this to ToV weapons for knights (which are more abundant, and easier to get IMHO), this weapon is only fractionally better or worse that what dragons drop. This is an excellent choice for any knight in your guild who wants to wield something slightly cooler looking without sacrificing much.

I just wish there were more undead mobs to hunt in the high-end game.

Perhaps it's int gear is supposed to be harder to get a hold of. I don't know about the rest of you but in my travels I've come to notice that int casters seem much more "powerful" than wisdom character. What else can hit for whatever thousands an ice comet can? What else has a lvl 60 spell that can solo a 55 warrior (ie pet)? What else can Clarity or mez? It just seems that overall, int casters have a bit of one up on wisdom casters and so to balance stuff out, it only makes sense to me that they should make int a little harder to get.

ah, but what int caster can sow, or heal? for pure dmg yes, int classes have it all, but what group lasts with out some type of healer? clerics can rez, necro's can summon, druids can port, wizards can port, shamans can slow/cast haste, enchanters can cast haste, beastlords are a pet class, mage's are a pet class. All wis casters can heal themselves and others, which int class can claim that, with out an item?

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 01 2002 at 3:13 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmm I have a lvl 13 necro alt that can drain mobs hp and than I also have got a spell that give my hp to others... So is that healing by your standard?
RE: DAMMIT!
# Feb 01 2002 at 12:52 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm, yes- a necro can heal. Sort of.

A druid can heal, sort of better.

A cleric is needed for any real healing.

Pretty much, a necro is about as good a healer, compared to a druid, as a druid is, compared to a cleric. i.e. Not Very.

J Boots will be useful, but SoW will always be better. Faster, anyway. So, imo, better. But knock yourself out.
