What does teh "Drain Mana" Proc do exactly?
# May 12 2003 at 6:25 AM Rating: Decent
Just got this beauty the other night in SSRA. Very impressive. Can anyone tell me what the "Drain Mana" Proc does? Be specific please. Does it drain mana from the caster mob and that's it or, does it drain the mana then transfer it to me? Just curious..

It does damage to the target's mana pool. It does not give you any mana.
Think PvP Servers Not Blue Servers
# Jan 18 2003 at 11:26 AM Rating: Decent
I can never seem to say it enough, but here it is again. On a blue server, int classes melee'ing is for kicks, farming, and the occasional benificial proc when FoM and bored. PvP servers change everything for int casters and melee'ing. Being oom and solo on a pvp server is dangerous and it does happen, so being able to melee and use uber weapons is like carrying a deringer as a back up weapon. While it will not save your butt often, but if it saves it once, it is one less annoying pk. And omg, 300 mana drain in PvP is incredibly nice, especially if 2 (or more) pure casters are going at it. Proc'ing this bad boy will make them go oom before they expect to, and can turn the tide of the battle.

I have a 51 Wizzie on Sullon Zek. I would not bother with this weapon, or any other melee weapon that gives no resist bonuses. I don't go near melee, & if I'm forced to melee, I'm almost certainly going to die, no matter what weapon I'm carrying. Yonder doesn't take much mana to cast anyway -- far better, if you're attacked, to simply Yonder away & hope you get far enough to med enough mana to Gate out.

OTOH, EQ PvP servers are a total waste of time, anyway. If I want to play Quake, I'll go play Quake on REAL Quake servers, & likely not pay a dime for it.

Epics...
# Sep 21 2002 at 4:40 PM Rating: Default
People, stop being idiots. The epics suck now for a reason, other weapons came out. Jesus. What, you thought they'd put in the epic weapons in Kunark and for the rest of the game they'd never get better? Get with the program, a lack of quality in epic weapons was expected - EQ is constantly upgrading.

Do we need epic upgrades? Um... not really.. it's just a weapon, there are hundreds upon hundreds of weapons that you could have and enjoy that don't have the nickname of Epic handed to them, which is all you are really getting when you quest your epic weapon.
RE: Epics...
# Oct 15 2003 at 9:30 AM Rating: Good
I would have to say that the reason why people are wishing that epics would be upgraded is because the epics are a class defining quest which is suspossed to be the "hardest" quest for that class. Example: the Magician Epic has a huge number of pieces to collect and many rare/random drops.

Of course this is not true for some of the other classes as their epics are not epic in length or effort. Example: the Rogue Epic. In fact many classes have very easy epic quests.

Thus the difference of opinion, emotion and feeling on the subject.

A lesson to learn in life- dont be so arrogrant to look at things from your own perspective, but take the time to learn other people's point of view and WHY they feel that way. Doh!
sad but true

I play an Enc & have epic. I also carry with me 8 weapons of various types & effects. I love to melee & have all my combat skills maxed (to cruddy 110 alas) Upon looking at this weapon & its proc, I would keep it as my main over my epic.

Staff of Serpent
Type: 1H Blunt
Damage: 11
Delay: 24
Stats: +60 MANA +40 HP +20 INT +15 CHA +5 STR +15 STA +10 SV COLD +10 SV DISEASE +10 SV FIRE +10 SV MAGIC +10 SV POISON

Lose 10 to saves, which is only needed really for those dragon raids mostly in which case your not gonna melee anyways :-P Gain of 25 hps, 45 mana 5 int 10 agi & no change in cha, sta or str. Better dmg & all around goodness. Top this off with Boon o Garou & VoG (125 total more dex) & your looking at very high Dex Most have dex in the hundred + range as it is & its easy to get mid 200's. Its why I keep a staff of writhing on me. I can proc that bad boy like crazy in duels :-)

I sure hope the classes get their epic upgrades with PoP cause I'm sure most will agree, they all suck now by the age EQ is at now. Its sure disenheartening to see all these weapons come out now that put epics to shame...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 16 2002 at 3:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) the only thing is that with a proc like that you will be getting aggro pretty fast but its true im not very pleased with int casters melleing but it would be nice to be procing this weapon left and rigth

This may be nice for range slot, but it's also awesome for the proc. 17 delay, and procs a 300 mana drain on the mob. With that low delay, it should proc several times during big fights, and that could come in REAL handy when fighting mobs that gate, or CH when low health. Don't forget that the proc can go off, even on misses, so the low attack caps for int casters are irrelevant.

the proc is nice and so is the delay but you didnt even mention the fact that this is a dmg25 1 peircing weapon

You are right Xaanru. A fantastic weapon. It's only pitty that the dagger doesn't have a dex bonus for even more procs.

I've never had a proc trigger when I didn't hit...

I've always had to hit to get the proc *shrugs*
RE: Proc
# Oct 30 2002 at 4:58 PM Rating: Decent
No only do you not need to hit, you don' even have to be wihin range to atack, just witihn spell range, which if you click on the proc, it says that it is 200. Just turn on your auto-attack and be within 200 and it'll go off.

Nope, you do not need to hit to get a proc. Turn off your misses sometime, and check it out. I have had my first swings in a fight be misses, and proc on a weapon (typically Swarmcaller or Call of Sky) before doing any physical damage to a mob. Proc chance is checked by the swing, not by the hit.
RE: Proc
# Aug 14 2002 at 2:28 AM Rating: Decent
the best proof of this is the last Mob for the beastlord epic. The mob can only be hit for melee damage by the Beastlord doing the quest (wielding special weapons that can hit him). However, anyone can do spell damage, which includes procs from weapons of other melee's. So all your melee buddies can help out a bit by equipping fast proccing weapons, and the proc's will hit even though the melee doesnt.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 13 2002 at 5:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) That is a nailer ranged item.
Maybe...
# Jul 13 2002 at 12:05 AM Rating: Default
Just my 2cp but all of the great INT caster weapons I see now might be for farming greens. 110 skill in any weapon is not much but when you have weapons like this and insane procs maybe it's for people who kill spiders and cats for tailoring, or go into Running Eye for some twink gear, maybe even when they are running to a zone and get jumped by some random green. Rather then wast mana or not have the right spells memed they just wack till proc or hit it 3 out of the 20 swings for 100+ dam. Sorry for running on but wanted to make my point. Be safe all.
Hmm
# Jul 12 2002 at 5:21 PM Rating: Default
It's a good thing INT Casters can't melee very well, otherwise this would be just sick!

Ratio approaching 1, before you factor in the Magic DMG of 10?

Just sick, if it was rogue usable, it would be beyond belief.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 12 2002 at 7:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with Tsukii, after the bane its 25/17.

Probably why it isnt rogue usable ; )

I would just keep this item for the 20+ int.
And when ever a mob come to near to just stab it a little.
