Does this thing still exist? I've tried for the last couple years and several hours tonight (with help) to get this guy to spawn and we never even saw him. Not the non-fabled version either.
confirm my own question. =P FINALLY got it to drop after trying to get him for years now. He spawned off the treant that wanders the forest south of Splitpaw. (then goes around into the hills west of splitpaw and back again)
I just got this weapon last night. Went to SK to get the fabled Quillmane, but there were at least 40 peeps in zone. I attempted the north/south strategy, and before long the Fabled Grizzlenot wandered across Splitpaw and came at me. There was a monk who was endlessly killing everything nearby so I grabbed.
It barely hit my BST, it cast root on me but that never stopped me, resisted like normal. In the end, I was down maybe 10% health and mana and I had me some both the fabled and non-fabled Treant Staffs. I gave the non-fabled staff to my friend who was ACTUALLY leveling her bst down there while i was there to heal and buff her...lol.
Afterwards, I gave up the quillmane search. With 40 peeps in zone, if it was gonna pop it would do it when it was darned good and ready..and by then..it would be a free for all..
Got 2 of these guys to spawn, while tring to get fabled quill to pop, doing the North/south mobs that walk over splitpaw also got 1 groi gutblade 1 styfyre little gnome lady 1 cracktusk 1 mroom ( shoulda fabled this guy ) 2 Quillmanes this was over a 3-4 hour period
the staff rocks, proc'd as I killed every gnoll on the hill Monk has 227 dex hit for up to 135ish. weighs a bit much but im still under the ac penalty, Id say this one is as good if not better than the regular version of the tranquil staff from KC
as a druid it easy to kill treants without a faction hit. bind yourself in the area of the treant. then root the treant, dot it with winged death, port out, wait about 10 seconds gate back. treant is dead no faction hit.

This has to be a Fabled version of Grizzleknot, a named Treant that wanders a preset, but very zig-zaggy path. Many say he is a random spawn, but most money is on his PH is the "Wandering Treant", which is seen on the same pathing as GrizzleKnot. The one time I took Grizzle down was by accident with my necro, as I ran through the zone. I shouted an ooc and a grateful Ranger took the staff. My buddy however, has spent days hunting this named, many times over and actually plotted part of the paths of Grizzle and the Wanderer. Our money is on the Wanderer is the PH, and he is not all that easy to find, especially if you dont have track.
Ok I have tried about everything I can think of to get him to spawn. I have killed the wandering treatns till they stopped spawning...then killed every wandering mob I can find around splitpaw / south of splitpaw ( because that is where I killed the treant ph's ) and I have still not seen him. This is day 3 of this camp. Any help would be appreciated
I believe the orgiginal drops of Grizzleknot and other named treeants. I am a druid, I dont kill them. But, they might be linked to the unicorn spawn that drops the feathered leggings? Quelimane or whatever? The reason I say that is because I have seen the named treeant, what would that be? east? of the spires in SK. You may want to start looking to other mobs. Like the named gnolls and the undead cyclops. I have only seen Grizzlenot a handfull of times and I have been playing a while now. Other treeants in north karana usually up by the hills.... get a ranger/druid/bard to track for you?
I camped the fabled Grizzleknot for about 6 or 7 hours again tonight. I was clearing every mob from splitpaw south. He still didnt spawn..can anyone help with ph info...I have killed many named gnolls...wandering treants...cyclops..undead cyclops etc but still no spawn..any further info would be appreicated
I camped treants in SK years ago to level, and often Grizzleknot would spawn among them. This was in the spawn directly east of the bridge. Two or three static treants spawn there.
DUH, hey guys. evidently the proc is simply not ringing any bells.; no necro fear-kiting would ever want to use this for the proc. A mage would maybe use this as a last resort. A wizard would, if he was soloing...last chance to land that root so he could back off for the kill nuke.
Killed The Fabled Grizzleknot twice today while trying to get Fabled Quillmane to spawn. Fabled Quillmane = 1, Fabled Grizzleknot = 2 times.
My bard would make no use of it since cant equip anyway. paladin of mine could care less. I gave them to 2 people in the zone .
But Beyond popular belief: this would not be a useful beastlord weapon I think due to the fact that pet's procs would break this root more than it would even proc for the BST. But as a Nostalgia items FFA !

the normal treant staff drops from grizzleknot (also for totemic BP quest). So I'd assume its from "the fabled grizzleknot".
grizzleknot is a very rare/random spawn (he does not spawn at the treant camp as far as I know, he wanders the zone) in south karana... I've seen quillmane more times then this guy.
Dropped just earlier today on server Tunare from a fabled Treant in south Karana. Not sure of what lvl he was though. I was lucky enough to be in the zone, and the guy didn't want it, so he let anyone that could get there loot it, so I have a 25 necro with this weapon, lol. It's beautiful for fear kiting.
When a monster is low on HP, it either a.) continues fighting, or b.) runs. When it's a monster who DOES run, and is rooted (thus cannot run) it resorts to fighting, although Fear is still intact (if Root breaks, the monster will begin running again).
