rangers, shields, and Swiftwind
# Jun 16 2004 at 9:17 PM Rating: Decent
in addendum ... how many rangers have Swiftwind hanging on their trophy walls, an alternate haste item on their armor kit, and a set of swords that make BOTH their epics look sick ... nastiest ranger i know personally carries that pet-proccing whip out of Plane of Earth, and some other real nasty piece of work out of Time ...
warrior's and shields

ok, i'm a 63 warrior on errolisi marr, and the only reason i would carry a shield is when i am working as the caster's bodyguard ... but i HAVE carried a shield in such a situation, and the caster, given enough time to complete her gate, final shot nuke, or mez has been grateful for the extra AC and interrupt break it represents .. i have been laughed at for carrying a shield now and then ... but only on the way INTO a scrap, not coming out ...

Hmm well I am a 62 warrior with 45 AA points and that shield would be very nice in a lot of situations. Hmm cleric LoM Im low on HP hmmm witch to shield get the AC slow down the incoming damage a little bit to give that cleric that extra second or two to get of the complete heal. I would like to get the loyalist shield of honor as it can be used as a back item. But to say a warrior wouldn't use a shield is preposterous. As for the laughing you could laugh at me all you like...But Ill still be standing watching you running butt naked back to your corpse.

Ask yourself this. How many rangers have Swiftwind by the time they get into Torment? And how many are already at the 250 worn ATK cap?

Prior to addition of level as an alternate means of entry, I personally would have answered almost all, and pretty much none. Meaning that a ranger who would have been able to get this would not want to use this when shooting, because of the loss of the ATK on Swiftwind.

With the addition of the level requirements as an alternate requirement for entry, I'm not quite so sure anymore. But, From what I've seen (poked my head in once, when they added the level as an alternate requirement for entry), Torment is a crawl, not a camp, zone. In all likeihood, by the time the ranger and his guild can crawl in to where this drops, if that guild has not gotten him Swiftwind, they're doing themselves and him a huge disservice, simply because of the ATK on that weapon.

Can you please explain to me why putting a Shield in your secondary slot would affect the weapon that you can put in your Primary slot?

as for what class this 'BELONGS' to... you would think that it would begin to get old as people gain levels and begin to realize that every class has different roles in different situations, but alas, newbs run rampant even in the Planes these days...

Rangers are one of the most versatile classes in the game... hard to believe that so many of them don't even realize it themselves...

Swiftwind is secondary only.

Hehe.. a Rogue weilding a shield during combat should be shot in the head! And, that goes for Rangers as well! :)

Honestly, though. If I wanted to weild a shield I would play a Paladin or ShadowKnight. Atleast both class gets special bonus dmg using a one handed weapons.

Rogues and Rangers who uses this shield or any shield for that matter does not know how to play their class, and does not know the greatest asset of their class. DPS!!!

As for warriors using a shield in battles... You'll be a laughing stock! :P

Ahh! Great, ROzzl! thanks for correcting me on that! That is what I was trying to say just did not have the proper words of saying it. Thanks. :)

Umm.. Luethar..this a board were comments are welcome. I gave my views on class that has far better use concerning the item. Also, I do not need to research for my comments, I said it for what I have experienced. If you are the very few warriors that uses a shield then BRAVO!

I play a troll warrior for http://www.prophecyguild.com. So, I am not totally clueless from what you are trying to point out. But, hunting in 3rd tier anf 4th tier zone. trust me. A Bashing warrior is none existant. Also, the higher level you go the better your kick will interrupt a mob. A warrior also gets the ability to SLAM (for large race only) without having to sacrifice dual weilding. I do admit that SLAM becomes less effective at 55+ but it is still useful in some mobs.

Anyway, what makes you think you do a better job at bashing compared to Paladins and Shadowknights at interrupting those gating mobs?

Beastlord warder at 61+ will have better chance of doing that for you. You also have casters with stun and knockbacks (but not all mobs) for interrupts. Hell, even rogues and rangers can interrupt gating mobs.

So, will I laugh at a warrior who rolls for a shield where other class has better use for it? YES I would.

I accept being corrected and will thank individuals that corrects my faults. But, I will counter individuals who thinks it is wrong for me to make comments.

Interesting assumption.

I am a warrior and I use a shield. Feel free to laugh if you wish, but I do more damage with a shield bash than I do with a kick.

Kick: 1-30 pts of damage per use & small chance of spell interrupt.
Bash: 30-90 pts of damage per use & large chance of spell interrupt.

Hmmmm.... which one do I use? Of course the shield is only equipped long enough for me to bash, but still I use a shield and trust me no one laughs. Especially when the warrior interrupts that gate spell with a shield bash.

So careful what you say. Perchance you should not use such a broad unresearched statement as that.

Actually, Paladins and Shadowknights get a damage bonus for using TWO handed weapons (with a delay greater than 28 or 30). But so does everybody. As a general rule, Knight only 1 handed weapons have a better ratio and higher damage than those of dual wielding classes. Using a shield does allow them to bash harder though (or at all for the little people).

Only 75 hp? >< I'm scared already.

And four out of the six classes are duel wielding classes? Scarier still.

A sheild usable by both bards AND rogues? Well damn.

No drop recommended level of 53 from a second tier zone? The horror...

This is clearly a shield intended to be used by paladins and shadow knights. No bard, rogue, ranger or warrior is likely to care, but the knights are not likely to have a shield of this quality by this time I don't think.

I'm having trouble thinking of another 50AC shield, actually. There aren't too many from 2nd Tier down. As a matter of fact, I find a grand total of 5 shields with at least 50ac, at least 75hp and at least 75mana that are hybrid-usable. Two come from Vex Thal; 1 from Doomfire, the Burning Lands; and 1 from Bastion of Thunder.

Of these shields, this is the least of them; but it's also the easiest attainable, apparently. Gets my coolies.
