I have not seen these in the Bazaar with any regularity lately, so I went to Blackburrow and killed everything is sight for a couple hours and came up with zero lariats. Anyone know the story on these? They still around?
Ok it still amazes me what I learn from reading the post's. I have a necro and a chanter. My brother has a mage and a sk would never have thought to farm this weapon and give to pet's. Keep posting I learn someting every time I read them.
on the Rathe server until they change the name LOL

These make great pet weaps! Since they let pets zone, I have seen these selling for 135pp in bazaar on Morelle-Thule. A bit pricey but very helpful when fighting casters. I need to find an easy place to farm these for my pet's enjoyment!
The whip does make a difference in situations when stun can help. Especially when soloing. I spent hours soloing the Fort in Gunthark for a magician spell drop. All the mobs where light blue to me at level 53. I tried it with and without the gnoll hide lariat (stun) with my earth pet (which roots), for at least a couple hours each. My magic resist was around 130 the first time when i used used the stun lariat and i was untouched by the casters spells. Later, without the stun lariat, I had to push my magic resist to 170 and i was still occaisionally getting dotted with scourge. This hurt because they also despelled my HOV! I had to play a much more careful game without stun because the mobs (light blue to me) were not getting their spells interrupted. The stun also helped with dying fleeing mobs that resisted root.
The loot was nice (when u are able to clear the room) but not exceptional. I got my drop, had fun, and made more plat than i had expected from some stat items that dropped. )
I remember waaay back, was prolly '00 i cant remember, but these whips were still uber for lower levels, great for taunt. As a barbarian warrior, and alot of extra str, my hits were increased a bit compared to alot of other races. I loved these simply for the fact of speed and Argo. Heh, i used them untill i was in my 40's and obtained double SSoy's.
I fight in Gunthak/Dulak a lot and these Gnoll HIde Lariats also drop off the Boars in Gunthak close to the Dulak zone. They are in a building and there are usually 4-5 of them. Lil harder mob but XP is great! You can also spawn the named Boar and he drops a nice "Boar Horn Earring" that sells for 1k+.
Im planning on camping the Emporer in Seb for a few of my 60 spells. I would like to have a backpack or two full of these before i head down. Anybody have a rough estimate on how long it will take me to farm that many? Thanks in advance.
atm, it has no pricing data.my guess would be that is because no one really sells it.most people just give it to a pet, or just mess around with it.back when i hunted in paw, no one else really ever wanted these, so i'd loot it, then go back to gfay and give it to some newbs :D.anyways, if it did sell for anything, it'd probably sell for about 5-10pp at the most, just imo though. btw:you might find one in the bazaar.chances are, ones way overpriced, and the rest are closer to reasonable.
This weapon procs a 4-second stun at level 25 and ABOVE. The stun will interrupt spells being casted as well as allow you to do more damage.
Now for something that really agrivates me but is really really off topic. Monks get higher AC from Agility, yes? Well think, a ninja who can move faster than light can dodge almost every attack, or move to block it faster. Therefore, dont think of AC as defense, think of it as Chance to Avoid Damage.
Just a FYI since I didn't see anyone else post it.... these do NOT drop in bb anymore....in fact I haven't seen them drop in bb for a couple of years! If you want a few go to sk and kill some gnolls right outisde paw =) gl to ya and safe hunting!
Thats thanks to people sending feed back that it used to drop in the teens but proc in the 20s... I think what they wanted was its proc to be lowered though... good old verant
I am just curious about when these begin to proc on a necro pet. I have a lvl 26 necro I have been working on and have been told that these will proc once I get the level 29 pet. I am just wondering if this is true, I was told a lvl 24 pet could get these to proc but I just wanna be sure before I waste a bunch of time getting these to have them be of little use on my current pet. Thanks
The pet summoned by the lvl 29 spell, Summon Dead, is not only the first pet that can make this proc, it's also the first one that can reliably dual wield it.
These are a great necro pet weapon. Usually go farm a backpack full or so, and dole the out to my pet. With Augmentation of Death(necro pet haste) he procs quite often which keeps them mobs from running far or hitting hard :)
This is probably the best pet weapon in the game for soloing. I have a 65 enc with dc and I 2 box 62 druid with dc aswell. When I go to take down a mob like taskmaster or go to arena i give this to my enc pet 1 for agro controll this helps build agro fast to stop summoning from tash/slow and also stops mobs from ping pong agro on the 2 dc so only one pet to heal.
That just means you can't STUN them. Stun (I know spells I use do) will STILL interrupt their casting though. It may not stun them to stop them from attacking, etc. but it definately interrupts their casting. Try it sometime. Cast stun on a giant that is casting and if he don't flat out resist it, it will interrupt.
If you look up the other weapons that have stun, you will need a group of level 50+ to get it. My warrior will be making good use of this weapon when dealing with casting mobs.
Hehe, a 7 hr raid on Lady Vox, 10 attempts before by other raiders had failed. Alas, so did we. She pulled of a cheal, I used the gnoll hide lariat, to see if I could stun her. She resisted the proc. Hehe the 625 dds from my steel flinted hinge dagger she didn't resist muahaha. Shame though, the grp I was in, our healer fell in a pit.
#Psywalker,
Posted:Mar 21 2002 at 8:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I THINK m,ost big mobs lke that, dragons etc cant be stunned. I know Mugi in warrens cant.
This thing is friggin' fast, can you imagine how fast your 1hs would go up with this? Tack on the stun, and this is one of the nicest raid "utility" weapons in the game.
so everyone was saying that the proc level should be changed becuase you could get the item at such a low level... Well instead of lowering the proc level Veriant just made it harder to get. The weapon no longer drops in Black Barrow but can only be found in splitpaw. Now instead of being able to get this at around level 12 you need to be around level 20 in a group.)
Level 19 and I might use start using my pair of these already. The taunt management from these things must be better than my 11/29 | 10/29 combo ATM... and the 6 AC (well, 9, techinically 9, do to that melee AC bonus) is a decent bonus.
Hey we all have the complaint anout the lvl 25 proc. I've only resorted to this once, but I personaly am gonna send verant one of those nifty little feedback things that they might read. No matter what your server, we should really send a feedback on how it should start procing at maye 14 considering how easy it is to obtain it. This weapon isn't supposed to be worth that much, or that great compared to what you could have at the lvl you have when it starts procing. I've already typed too much. send your feedback to verant with /feedback.
Would this proc have a chance of sticking on monsters such as, say, Nagafen/Vox/large-multitude-of-expansion-dragons? If so I would think it would be smart to take a pair of these to dragon raids... especially the ones that have spells like Vox! Then you have your secondary-melee and general inventory (which has a shield in it) put in a hotkey bank, swap in the lariats, and whenever Bash ungreys swap in the shield long enough to bash, swap back out... that's a lot of stunning, especially with high dex. If the proc has a chance of sticking, I'd say Vox has small chance to heal herself...
This would be killer for a Rogue offhand if they have their 1H Slash Max'd. The stun would allow you to slip around and BS your opponent. Gonna try to get one for my PvP server Rogue.
these crappy whips are well worth keeping them in yer bags. Here is how wue used it We were 2 fll groups of 49 hunting the gnolls in the pit in Velk lab.
The ranger (50) took those two in her hands, i tossed her with SLTW and WW form. she had 254 dex and was procing AS HELL!!!!!! According to her, the damage was about 20 a hit, but she was proc'ing every two hits. it is AWESOME against the champion (ton of hp, double for 200 on me, poor caster :p ) they weren t hitting anymore. awesome too against the priest, wasnt able to cast.
At higher level, dual wielding two gnoll hide lariats can be a very cool addition in multi group (or even in single group, but didn't try though) for it can keep any mob stunned for 60% of the fight duration.
I have always wondered if this would actually work. I would think that if you had two tanks with DEX maxed and dualing these, it'd be great for planes raids. The mob could never get a spell or swing off. Has anyone else tried this in fear or hate?
Its a great idea, but it wouldn't work on plane raids or higher level kunark/velious mobs. Planes mobs and the like have high Magic Resistance, which means that the stun proc would rarely land. And even if it did, the delay in attack would be minimal since they hit for over 100 at a greatly hasted speed. I've seen warriors try these on planes mobs and dragons alike, only to change them out quickly for their normal melee weapon. Bottom line is this: The mobs that you want it to work on the most will resist the proc more often than not.
I am a 4 halfling rouge in Misty THicket and a friend gave me this whip. I was wondering, is this any good for rouges? and since i heard rouges should stick with piercing and this is 1hs i was wondering if i should sell it. Let me know. Thanx
Yes it is but not for you yet. You need to be level 21 or higher for the stun to work. The damage is not that good. So after you hit 21 this baby rocks. While your opponent is stunned you can moved behind and backstab. For now, stick with piercing or buy a polished granite tomahawk.
Ok I'm a LVL 32 Ranger and i figure this could work great for arrow kiting, however how do you trigger it? Right click on it or what? Never had anything that proc. before?
I dunno if dis is a bug or wut sow I'm postin' dis anonumuslee. My Friend has like 1 of deese and he says dat dey are triggered. When he was fighting de gnoll it kept activating it and he couldn't get any spells off. When he killed de bastid he looked at de info and it sez 'charges unlimited'. I'm gunna chek dis out wen I log in tonight but I not gunna sey who has dis or wut server we on cuz I don't wunna get him nerfed.
I am a level 32 warrior with 121 dex and I still cannot get this to proc 95% of the time. I have went through entire battles only to have this proc like once or twice...is there some trick? Has this been nerfed? How come some people in the tread swear by this weapon for fighting caster? Very frustrating is all I can say.
The procs are pretty much random. I have a deadwood stave and a Dex of 110. In one battle I had it proc 7 times and then only 2 times over the next five battles. They didn't nerf it, you are not bugged, it's just the proc system that they have. The higher the dex the better the CHANCE. If you got your dex +200 then you would see some SERIOUS procing!

my 15 Rogue just killed an Aviak Egret in SKarana and got the whip. Big surprise getting stunned by a chicken !! Going to wait till 25 till I try using it.
This weapon works great when handed to pets. They arn't worth enough to sell and they drop quite often in splitpaw. An air pet with 2 of these equiped gets a lot of stuns in (at or greater than level 25 of course). A bard who isn't there as main tank can get a lot done with these stuns and then have more AC to boot.

This just a little off topic but, the leather BP looks like 'junk' in my opinion. Try chainmail BP/Sleeves/Gloves. The boots, not sure at 18 I'm still in leather boots =(.
Now for a small bit of on-topic. This is a rather easy weapon to get and my ranger (Zebulian on Povar) got this when she was 6 and was told just to keep it. I found out why once I got Duel Wield. The 20 delay is great for working on Duel Wield. I'm not to the proc level of 25, yet.
Btw: Zebulian is a Female Wood-Elf Ranger duel wielding a Crystal Fiber and a Gnoll Hide Lariat (primary and secondary respectively).
Zebulian 18th Season Ranger of Povar Still waiting for 20 to lose her damage cap...
I got this whip from a friend when I was level 5. I have held onto it for this long waiting for it to proc. I just hit 25 today (WOOT!) but then I had to log to go to work so I am not sure yet if it will proc at 25.
As far as damage goes, this thing is LOUSY, but with the delay, it rocks! I have turned down many a high damage, higher delay so I could keep this one in my off hand. I love it!
I will probably use this whip for quite some time.
Does anyone know of a better whip out there that a level 25 could obtain???

Even if this weapon weren't so quick and effective, i would use it just because of the sound effect! when my rogue first got it she had previously used only piercing, so it took many, many, many excellent cracks to drop blues and whites. it's phenomenal as a second weapon in dual wield.
I mean come on I got one of these as a lvl 14 ranger happened to be in the right group at the right time in BlackBurrow. I am now lvl 17 & can not use the stunn effect. My gripe is If I am now a high enough level to stand toe to toe with no buffs & kill the one who drops this (Splitpaw Commander) THen why do I not have the will to command the wepon? I think I have made my point!
My Warrior got one of these from an Orc Centurian (Maybe Lego) in East Commons. Have never seen that happen before, but a nice thing to have drop. I am going to use it to get Dual Wield up, and am rather bummed that it wont proc until 25.
I am going to get two of these for ranger friend in SK and try dual wielding. Should be great to have Ranger dual wielding whips, Warrior basher, and my Shaman (casting Walking Sleep) kick some Drachnid butt in FV.

My lvl 16 Warrior has been killing the commander consistantly. when he had the Lariat he took me down to less than 60 hp. I was well equipped but not buffed at all.
Face it my bardly friends. Your melee skills are pathetic. So I picked up one of these, started belting out Villias Verses of Celerity, and whammo, I'm a useful participant in melee again. You haven't seen happy tanks until you chain stun 6 times in a row...
Don't worry about the low damage, you weren't doing any damage anyway.
I can see the advantages of using this weapon to increase Dual Wield and Double Attack. My only gripe is the high proc level. Enough speculation and spamming with bad info, IT PROCS AT LEVEL 25. Why have a weapon that procs so much later than when you can actually get the weapon? Why not change it to L20, or even L18? ...
One more request... Since Verant was kind enough to start showing which slots items go in, maybe they can start listing the level at which weapons proc.
procs stun at 25 yes a long time to wait fast and effective dual wield double attack ..... with a good primary weap u stun nip round the rear and rip the spine out or stop the creature dead... i love it.
I like to use this weapon at the early levels to get dual wield/double attack up for melee types (warrior and rogue, perhaps bard if you're inclined). My rogue is currently using forged dagger (3/21) in primary hand and gnoll hide lariat (3/20) in off-hand for practice (switching to heavier dmg weps when things get hairy).
Not a lot of damage, but lightning fast, very fun, and nice, rapid skill raises. Be wary, of course, in groups, who may or may not appreciate you favoring self-improvement over damage output.
