the tunic is also a lightsource according to a friend whose wearing it.
Working on it myself at that the moment (2nd character). Instead of outfitting him from the get-go, I'm playing it out, making his newb armor and whatever else may come.
It's interesting to note that the levels fly by when you are not so engaged in making the levels and more in the slaughtering the mobs looking for the parts for your armor. You can't imagine the satisfaction of receiving that one item you are missing, after countless attempts.
Also, this armor just looks cool...

Okay :),
To complete your newbie armor, including both bracers, you need to gather :)
12 small pieces of ore
4 Low quality rockhopper hides
2 Medium quality rockhopper hides
6 Sharp bloodling mandibles
2 Bloodling carapices
5 Shadeling silks
4 Bone chips
1 Needle thin claw.
The total stats on the armor (assuming two bracers)
AC: 49
Str: 8
Sta: 11
Dex: 2
Agi: 1
CR: 7
MR: 1
HP: 52
To complete your newbie armor, including both bracers, you need to gather :)

Gotta say, this seems to be one of the best sets of newb armor I've come across, especially seeings how the vah shir haven't gotten newb quest armor before this. Ok, so they got the Ghulam stuff, but I never even saw a bloodbulk, nevermind got a single carapace.
