Half of you should have paid attention to Freyda .... the stones are ATTACHED to the weapon. It is not ammo, it is a ranged weapon that you throw at your enemy ... the whole thing gets thrown ... It is not a sling that throws rocks. Consider it the same as a throwing axe or throwing hammer.

This may sound stupid but what type of container is this made in it says tailoring but when i put the stuff in my large sewing kit it says you can not combine these items in this type of conatiner any help would would be great....NM I got it it's 3 weights 2 pelts A pattern & presto new thing to fling

A bola is usually a rope with weights attached to it.. when thrown, it'll wrap around the target and smack them with the weights, or just knock them down.
We've all seen them at some point.. hell, Batman used them.

Or maybe you have to have Gates of Discord for the thing to work.

So has anyone figured out how it works? What slot it goes in and what ammo it uses? I just bought the steel-weighted version.
LOL - Thought this was a good idea. FINALLY! A reason to have my Throwing skill maxed!
Made a Steel-Weighted Bola... Put it in my Range slot, with nothing in my Ammo slot (figuring I would get an Ammo message), targeted a Rat in EC, hit Range Attack...
...and threw the damned weapon at it...
Little more work needs to be done on this, I'd say...

Maybe the BOla GOes in the Range Slot. .and the stackable "Bola Stones" go in the ammo portion??? just a thought.. something to keep us investigating.
Ok, there are 4 types of Concoctions (that shaman make with alchemy) I can find that look to go with these:
Concoction of Flame 1 thru 4 (more damage)
Concoction of Ice 1 thru 4 (more damage)
Ensnaring Concoction 1 thru 3
Stunning Concoction 1 thru 3
Now it is known that you can make an Explosive Bola with Flame 1, and a Concusive Bola with Stunning 1. Now this is used for the making of the Bola. Do you use these potions for the ammo also? Are the Bola's themselves the ammo and are 1 shot? If anyone has some info please post it here.
I am guessing here, so be kind in your flaming when more info comes out: IF the potions are also used for ammo, can an ICE Concoction be used in a Fire Bola? Or would you need to carry around 4 different types of Bola's?
Just some thoughts and info that I thought might help some people.

uhh about concussive bolas... i spent about a week looking for broken stone worker for ceramic bola weight... spent another 2 weeks looking for the hq ra'tuk brute hides... FINALLY i get a second one and make a stunning concoction 1 on my shaman, and get em all on one char, and after an hour i found a gm tailor to make me my fancy new concussive bola... needless to day, i was elated, extatic even. i stood up and did the rokyn dance. so i run out to qeynos and buy 11 stacks of shurikens (1 for ammo slot, 10 to fill a deluxe toolbox). i giddily charge from the monk guild hall and turn with bloodthirsty eyes to the nearest lvl 1 'a rodent'. i click the range button, and laugh marrily as it procs and stuns the little ******, and then hits him and kills him because my throwing is capped! i turn to another to see if it procs every time and lo and behold, my prized posession, which, to quote a friend, was 'the equivalent of an epic' was gone. i almost cried. assuming it was a bug, i petitioned. while waiting the usual half-hour for a reply (4 gm's on at the time btw) i run out to PoJ to drown my sorrow in the blood of prisoners. i walk into the room with the human female and froglok, and make my pet attack the human. the gm finally replies, essentially saying it was designed to be one-use. i look up, and my pet is at 1% health. i run to the zone, but their nukes are too much for me and i die just as the gm says if i want anything done about it at all i ahve to give feedback and maybe eventually if im lucky they will change bolas to not be thrown.

have you ever wanted your character to leap from the screen and nuke you to death? i have.
in conclusion, i think making an item that requires 2 pelts from a lvl 60 mob, 1 piece of a 46 mob, a 80 triv alchemy combine, AND a 250 triv tailoring combine only for the item to be used in 1 throw is as bad as making ornate tranq armor no rent, and its ridiculous to use a potion in an item if the item ends up no better than the potion itself. if any more info is needed, u can find me quietly sobbing lyrics of sad songs to myself in a corner in my room.

how does this thing work? Bola in range slot? ammo slot? I put it in range slot, and said I needed ammo...so summoned some daggers...and damage was just normal dagger damage...

You guys are thinking too old school.... lets look to the present and the new kid on the block for throwing items. These and a Berserker I have a feeling will do MASSIVE amounts of damage in the future. Just my 2 cp though.....

I made 3 today. Skill: Throwing Atk Delay: 35, DMG 36. Range 200. My question, what ammo do you use? It is not thrown itself. If just shaman potions, that is not real uber, but still sorta nice.

You guys need to a little more reading into the Bola. Snare, Root, and Stun Bolas are being made. Uses Shaman type recipies in with the making of the bola.
Ok anyone got the recipie for this? (dust of the old throwing skill)

I agree, I play a monk but i've also seen rogues in action with simple throwing items. This would be much better off in the hands of a rogue.

This would be good for anyone that can throw and has the skill high enough to do the damage ( MONKS!!!!!!!!! )

should have snare effect on it imo.
I'd have to agree that it should snare. Isn't a bola essentially a cord with a weight on each end, thrown at an opponant's legs to trip them?

You can make them with snare, stun, etc. Just a tweak to the recipe, adding a ceramic pot instead of one of the rocks, and a certain shaman potion from GoD. Check EQTraders for details, but yes, monks can make a snare effect on a throwing weapon.
