Thank you very much. Was very confused why I had some accounts with this in the claim window and not others. Was not looking forward to grinding 700 more faction.

why do i want good faction with these guys?
Strictly speaking, this faction is no longer terribly necessary, as few people are jumping up and down to do these zones and/or raids anymore.
But if you wanted to do the alternate access progression to get into Qvic back in the day..or to get the (long crazy) chain of "Breakdown in Communication" quests...you needed to con *warmly* to folks.
So today...it's a staff with a fairly neat look and some minor resist buffs. I'm no longer sure it's worth the bank slot unless you're a collector of such things.
But if you wanted to do the alternate access progression to get into Qvic back in the day..or to get the (long crazy) chain of "Breakdown in Communication" quests...you needed to con *warmly* to folks.
So today...it's a staff with a fairly neat look and some minor resist buffs. I'm no longer sure it's worth the bank slot unless you're a collector of such things.

I recently bought the Anniversary Edition boxed set (includes all expansions to date, i.e. through Buried Sea) as a cheap way to buy the expansions I didn't have yet. I found that it entitles me to ALL of the rewards that originally came from buying the boxed sets of the individual expansions, including some I already have (such as Satchel of Abu-Kar from LDON). So that's another way to get this staff.
Now I have to decide which of my characters deserve each of the rewards...

I found that it duplicated all the rewards EXCEPT the clicky staff that would gate you to Crescent Reach.

Just an update...
If a person has purchased one of the special packages like Platinum Edition or Gold Edition and wants this staff, YES, you can get the Gates of Discord expansion and register the exp. to aquire the staff. The expansion has to be new and unregisterred of course. But I just confirmed this on one of my sccounts for a toon that is doing BiC quest. I found the expansion new on eBay for almost nothing.

Tested this staff tonight- just after hitting kindly from turnins, I made ally with staff equipped. Just before I was amiable/warmly. Ergo 600 faction point modifier.
Below -801, scowls at you, ready to attack
-800 to -501, views you threateningly
-500 to -101, glowers at you dubiously
-100 to -1, is apprehensive
0 to 99, is indifferent
100 to 499, is amiable
500 to 699, kindly considers you
700 to 1099, views you warmly
1100 and up, you are an ally
(DOH - Note to self: do not try to do math after playing EQ for 14 hours straight...)

You mean 600, I assume: 1100 - 500.
I know this is a bit over dated. I bought the platinum box set. This expansion included of course and I'm now at a point where I could work on the Breakdown in Communication quest. Was just wondering if perhaps I found an unopened box set and registered the cd key, would it still give me the /claim item even tho I already have the expansion or is it just wishful thinking on my behalf?

I just bought the titanium boxed set, and yes, the cd-key will give you the gifts, wether you have the software before this or not or not.
I really wish they would have let me break up the set tho, I hated giving all the gifts to the same toon.

because the claim code is generic and thus has to deal with the fact the item may be a container (like say /claim for ldon).

This item is useful in getting faction with the Yunjo Resistance. It's part of a very long quest (GoD Progressive quest A.K.A. Break in Communication quest). This part is in regards to the Riwwi Slaves, and having to get to Kindly faction so that Turlini and Namosa will talk to you. This in turn allows you to progress further into the quest.
Without this staff, you have to do a lot more cooking / brewing up food for the slaves to only have then despawn for like 30 minutes after you give them 8 items, over and over again. This staff can save you a few hours of turn ins.

I read that if you turn in 4,3,4 you get 11 faction increases insted of 8. I have not tried it personally, just what I read.

dude i totally did this and it said i got it but it wasn't in any of my slots and i can't redo it

when you type in the command to get the staff, you get a warning to make sure you have an empty slot available in your main inventory slots. IE one of the slots where you keep your bags usually, has to be open to receive the staff.

I bought the retail box version for the same price as the download... I installed it and I was expecting a message telling me how to get the staff, but nothing! How do I get my staff?
After you've entered the box code & had the expansion registered, You should get a system message saying you have something to collect.
Make sure you have an empty inventory slot & type /claim on the character you want to have this staff.
Bear in mind you can only claim once per account, so make sure you only /claim on the character to get the staff.

Anyone tried to see if this can be thrown by accident since it is range slot equipable?
And can you use it with shurikens in the ammo slot? Its a nice resist range slot item for me....

1. You cannot throw a range item unless it has DMG/DELAY.
2. You do not get stats from ammo slot at all ever. There is one small exception that went in with a recent patch. You will now get the skill modifications from tradekill trophies equipped in the ammo slot. Aside from that you do not get any stats from ammo slot.

I think he was asking can you still use Shurkins as in can you still throw them if the staff is in the range slot. I am not sure if that is possible but would have to think no... then again I could be wrong

I got my staff today for my new Upgrade Gates of Discord. I like the little one in the box and my character got one too. She is a New Necromancer just lvl 2 today So I can't say that I have any complaints. None of my Characters are above lvl 10 right now so it will be a while before I get to a lot of those places. But I believe the point is I thought it was really a great present. I know it increased all of my heat cold, etc stats. Ill let you know what else it may do at my level.
Well I will never know cause this entire expansion is nothing more then a playground for the high end full time player guilds. Of course they don't advertise the expansion that way so that everybody goes out and buys it thinking it will have new zones for our level 50ish charactors to hunt. Then after we get it we see its basically for level 65 time equiped guilds. What a waste of money, yea I got 1 zone I can hunt now, natimbi...thats it.
any decent group with an average level of 60 or so can do a lot of Qinimi too. the lower geared crowd got all of LoY, and all functional parts of LDoN, its time the raiders got something too. That being said, you still get two excellent zones packed with great gear, good xp, and ncie quests.

It sad those of us with real lives cant get or do some of the stuff in this game because you have to be part of a major raiding guild to get there or do the quest or even get the items. What about nice items for those of us that have real lives and can only play for a few hours a day or even a few hours a week ..... if we are lucky.
Besides all that who pays more for the game playing the very small % of people that are raiders or the rest of the real folk? I think we get ya by about 18 to 1. So by those standards there should be 18 times the stuff to do for each of the mega raid things to do. By that the time and elemental planes has you guys covered for the next 50 years of expansions.
Just economics ... he who pays should get not he who barely pays should get (but then again who has ever called Sony fair?)

I have to say, that is such a selfish rant. Don't buy the next expansion... or EQ2... in fact, just give up on RPGs because you seem to think they should benefit the casual gamer more then the hardcore addicted fanatic. I shouldn't have to even tell you why you are wrong.

(That would mean they are targeting the Game Masters on Morden Rasp LOL) But seriously, wait for info, like "will the boxed version of this expansion give me an advantage over the online one", and "will I need time flags to make use of the bulk of this expansion?" After you are finished getting the information, you won't have to be back in the message boards saying "it's just economics... SOE should have made OOW for the casual gamer that never plays and thus pays more per game hour." Hah, all the people who are online often would stop playing out of boredom. So, has anyone discovered if/how the stats increase on this item?
I've been told by a couple guildies that the Staff increases in level as you explore/roam/hunt thru the GoD zones.
I am flagged for Kod`Taz and this staff has not changed as far as stats or anything.

Well if this is anything like the backpack in LDON, then it should be upgradable. Possibly having to do with the puzzle on eqlive.station.sony.com

Also did the quest to get the boat name. Can't figure out how they have the letters arranged. They're just alpahbetic, I'm gathering, since there are 26 symbols. However, I've tried to go different directions, assuming alpha order, and have gotten nowhere. I tried checking the boat itself for markings, but they don't match the puzzle.

The name of the boat they are looking for is Maiden's Voyage ... I know this much because I have done the quest for the woman in nedaria's landing. I just cannot figure out how to enter the stupid name on the site. They left out a pretty essential part of all this. What symbol is what letter?

Well I am working on the answer to this puzzle, but even more confusing to me is the letter system for the puzzle on eqlive.sony.com. There are 26 characters so its safe to assume each one represents a letter in the alphabet, but where do we go to figure out what symbol means what letter? It would be neat if this puzzle would lead us on another quest to upgrade the staff or something.

I am not sure what faction they are on, but if you equip it while talking to the two "weavers" in Natimbi near the zone in (they look very wraith-like - white hair, strange looking white eyes) I think your faction goes to kindly. I refused to buy my copy online because I don't want to be the one who doesn't get to do some great quest due to not having my faction modified. Hope this helps.

Being one of the people that got suckered into the early download by Sony so they could get their money faster; I'm pretty ticked off that us people that chose to download didn't get anything. They told us that downloading it incrementally would be best; far better than buying the disc; well hell...shouldn't we have been rewarded for doing what they wanted so they could get their money faster? Just getting this off my chest; it's really not a big deal...but it's still not right.

I've downloaded all the expansions and have been able to claim every single item with no problem. I've read a lot of posts by players who also downloaded the expansions but couldn't get any claim items. Is there a difference in downloads?

I bought it retail and got the coupons as well. Also, I started the incremental downloads in December and never even put the CD in my computer. All the stuff is already there, so why bother. I just entered the CD key.

seems like a new kind of evolutive item such as the adventurer stone, maybe it's linked to the wayfarer's camp in Natimbi. (Just registered the add on, never been to GoD zones yet).
I'm pretty sure there must be some kind of quest involved with it. I mean, it's a 50+ expansion (I'd say 60+ personally, but hey) and they're giving this away? The stats are negligible, and if it was just for looks/faction, it would be statless. May be a way to upgrade it as you unlock the further zones, like the PoP charm?

I really doubt it, the faction modifier is pretty significant. I went from Dubious to Kindly just by equiping this, this is just for the faction, nothing more.
Apart from vendor prices (trivial) and monster aggro (usually not an issue in non-combat zones) the one thing that faction does is unlock quests.
I don't know if in-game quests or mob kills will raise this particular faction. If so, people with this staff will get high-faction quests significantly sooner.
If not, people with this staff will be the only ones to get them.
