If it has been put in a slot already does it mean that I cant buy any more from the merchant? If not this could be really usefull for warriors IMO.

LORE means what it always does: at a given time, you may have at most one of the item anywhere in your personal possession (equipped, open inventory slot, inside a container in your inventory, in personal bank space). The single exception to this is that you may have a second copy of the LORE item in shared bank space if you have a copy in personal possession, but a character that already has a copy in personal possession may not remove the second copy from shared bank space. At no time may you have two copies of the same LORE item in shared bank space.

The answer to your question is, therefore, "No, you can't buy another if you've equipped it already." However, don't waste your adventure points; I wouldn't count on the game protecting you from wasting them if you attempted to purchase a second copy.
