Blood of the Wolf clarification

appears that for progression servers the former "10 Dose Blood of the Wolf" and "Blood of the Wolf" single-charge item were consolidated into one (in a way)...

-in that Blood of the Wolf is player-made in original era and has 1 charge and is stackable (this item may have originally been single charge non stackable?)

These usually sell on progression servers for 35p a stack of 10, though occasionally you will see 40p. So a good item for indexing an economy by. Also good for judging if you really want to pay for the instaclicky jboots or just run stacks of pots (depends if you need an instaclicky really, otherwise pots makes more sense).

The other versions of this still exist in game as players made them years ago and they are rotting in retired accounts (as the devs never removed them), so if the 1-dose charge version still exists as a stand-alone from the same-named one that can have 10 charges we are actually looking at 2 different items.

So someone may need to correct this post a bit.

Clicky from inventory on progression servers where various UI features are presently locked out.

You are correct in that originally they did not stack, I use to make the single until I got my bear pouch then I was able to make a stack of 5 or 10 by combining the singles in the bag.
Inside?

Do these work inside? Just wondering if they are useful inside LDoN
RE: Inside?
# Jan 14 2004 at 1:19 AM Rating: Decent
Nope doesn't work inside. Although this is a potion it is no different to the Spirit of Wolf spell which can only be cast Outdoors

ARe you sure..We just use it last night in Castle Mistmoore...

I'm 100% positive, I tried to use it in Kurn's and it gave me the "This spell may only be cast outdoors." message.
Getting up alchemy....
# Feb 04 2003 at 4:39 PM Rating: Good
What is the best <cheapest> way to get this skill up... I have looked on Casters Realm and have not found any info. I imagine alchemy could be like jewerly making where there is a most cost efficeint way to get skill up. *IE: by using cheap gems and a little bit more expensive metal to raise the trivial in order to raise ones skills. I would bet there is a more cost effecient way to get Alchemy up before even attempting to make a sow potion. ...[Just my thougth]...

All information that you all have on alchemy in general is much appreciated.

First, a word of warning... After spending quite a while researching this, I've found the great majority of shamans are at best disgruntled with alchemy. Many have spent a fortune and found that only a handful of potions sell, and even then fairly slowly. The fastest seller is these SoW potions, but you barely make a profit on it. On most servers you can usually get 10 shots for 70pp. Considering they cost about 55 to make, after you factor in the failure rate it's a pretty sad profit even with great skill. On the other hand, stinging wort potions can bring in huge profits. They require camping ice giants, but you can make them for about 600pp and sell for 1500-2000. They're horribly unbalanced instant heal potions. A 52 monk solo'd Nagafen recently with a bunch of these. Aside from these 2 potions, alchemy can be a very hard sell. Depends on the server it seems. I've seen some shaman say they sell a particular potion very quickly, and some others say they've had the same one at a lower price for sale for weeks without a single sell.

That said, there's one well known shortcut. Titan potions, added in Luclin, are trivial at 180 and cost 10.5pp to make. For comparison's sake, Adrenaline Tap costs 57.8pp to make and trivials at 170. The first potion cheaper than Titan is Purity, and it trivials at 103. Another, much lower level shortcut I've found will get you to 36 much cheaper than the usual SoW route. Check the bazaar for russet oxide, evergreen leaf, and charcoal. I can usually find a bunch of them for 1pp or under. Combine any (any one, not all 3) with an empty vial and a water flash, both are cheap as dirt. It's far, far cheaper than SoW potions to gain skill in, but doesn't result in anything very valuable. However, you fail the SoW potions so much anyway it's overall cheaper this way.

How did he get past the 'Any further potion consumption would be toxic to your system' message you get when you drink 4-5 potions really fast?

Strength of SoW?

I'm hoping that someone can tell me what strength the SoW spell of these potions is. Is it the strength of a level 9 shaman with a 34% movement increase over 27 minutes or the strength of a level 50 shaman with a 55% movement increase over 36 minutes? Or, is it somewhere in between these two extremes? Thank you for your time.

As far as I'm aware, the effect is as if a caster of the drinker's level cast the spell, with a minimum speedup of 34%.

So if you're at level 40 when you drink the potion, it will be as if a level 40 shaman cast the spell on you.
failing

when mixing poions in the bearskin bag, does it have a chance of failing? like if ur skill isnt high enough?

The way you phrased your question is confusing... You combine potions in the bearskin bag into 5 and 10shot ones. You actually mix each Dose in the MEDICINE bag. So i have to contradict Dargadin, NOTHING fails in the BEARSKIN bag.. even any class can use them I hear. But, only shammys can make the actual potions in the medicine bag..and they DO FAIL.

-Pharmy
P.S. Dargadin: I know u meant the MEDICINE bag fails %-}
RE: failing
# Dec 13 2002 at 1:52 AM Rating: Excellent
ABSOLUTELY! Even after the potion is trivial it will fail often. The higher your skill, the less fails you get of course. This makes Alchemy much more expensive.
What server?
# Dec 09 2002 at 9:44 PM Rating: Decent
Raindays what server was you on? I know on my server, zeb, i can still squeeze out between 85 and 90 on 10 shots.
RE: What server?
# Mar 03 2004 at 1:29 AM Rating: Decent
On cazic thule, I think the average price is about 80pp, but for instance, right now i can buy it in the bazaar for 70. With a low trivial like this potion has, a lot of people make it at any time, and they fight for the customers, which consistantly drives the price down until a lot of shammys won't make it anymore because its not profitable enough. At that point the price raises again, because there are less people making them, so less competition to undercut the price. it's just supply / damand.

its a vicious cycle, but the trend should apply to virtually all servers over a long enough period of time.
HMMM..

In Field of Bone Yesturday purchased 3 10 Dose SOW Potions for 75pp each...I'd say prices are dropping
about the 10 doses
# Oct 23 2002 at 7:25 PM Rating: Decent
ok i know it is made as a 1 dose, so how do u make it into a 10 dose? does it just stack like arrows? or do u have to combine 2 or more in medicine bag? thnx End

Shammy made potions can be combined in 5-shot or 10-shot potions using a bearskin potion bag https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=3748 which are made by tailors combining one thick grizzly bear skin and one silk cord (which is made by combining 3 silk threads which come from 2 combined spiderling silk). I believe it is trivial around 25 or so... but don't quote me on that.

Hope this helps =)

This is the most popular potion made by shaman, and can usually be found by asking to buy sow potions in EC or around places where shamans origionate. The ingrediants can be purchased in Halas, Cabilis, Grobb, Firiona Vie, and Thurgadin at alchemy merchants if you're a shaman ready to make them.

My warning to young shaman, the alchemy skill (unlike normal trade skills) has a lvl cap much like fighting and spell abilities. For example, you can't get enough skill pts to trivial at sow potions till lvl 32. So, if you just hit 25 and you're all excited cause you're ready to make sow potions, relax and lvl a couple more times first cause you wont make any money on them till you're good enough not to fail all the time.
Level Cap being removed
# Nov 16 2002 at 1:30 AM Rating: Excellent
According to the developers at FanFaire, they will/are/have removed the negative effects of the stat potions, as well as the alchemy skill level cap. However, I don't think this is the case on the live servers yet, as my skill is at 150 and hasn't gone up since even though I have been making non-trival port potions. But at least I haven't had a single failure in the last 20 attempts!
RE: Level Cap being removed
# Nov 17 2002 at 11:51 AM Rating: Decent
Would be nice if it goes live, but im afraid its not enough to make it a worthwhile skill. Sow potions are about the only thing that sells well and the prices for those use to partially make up for the losses incured while leveling up skill with the rest of the non-sellable potions. With SoW prices falling through the floor its just not economical to continue to practice a DEAD tradeskill. Verant/SOE has abandoned Alchemy and so have i except for personal use i not longer practice the skill.

hi,

I was wondering what the ingrediants are for this seeing as though i can't find it anywhere...

Thanks
RE: How?
# Jun 11 2001 at 5:17 AM Rating: Excellent
Ingrediants are Birthwart, Fenugreek and Wolf Blood, trivials at 37 skill.
Normal pricing seems to be 12pp for 1-shot (when you find anyone with singles), 55pp for a fiver and 100pp for the 10 dose
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 19 2001 at 11:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) can anyone say, sow potion?
