Does anybody know WHY there is such a massive price difference in this item - especially as it is available at such a low level? How common is a ratio of nearly 100 to 1 on items in EQ or is this a real aberration? Why would anyone be willing to pay over 8 plat for something that you can sell for less than 1 gold piece on average to any Norrath Merchant? All you have to do for some is hang around the Cabilis Book in the Field of Bone which is well away from anyone who is going to KyOS. Enquiring Minds Would Like To Know !!!!
Rudby & Various Characters at Various levels Time is the THIRD Dimension!!!
These only drop off the ordinary level 1 (or 2)scorpions. Large scorpions drop large scorpion pincers, which can not be used as instruments. Giants and heartstings do not drop pincers at all.
They're easy to acquire. Only thing that makes them semi-dangerous is the fact that the level 1 scorpions are in the newbie area, which puts bards dangerously close to the guards. Suppose you could hire a newbie Iksar to get one for you, or just be very careful. Merchants sell these for about 8pp, but you'd be insane to pay that price, they're easy to get and common as dirt.
These add the same percentage to bard songs (15%) as a minotaur horn, and are much easier to get (as far as fighting the mob, anyway, although you have to get to the Field of Bone).

Well, the pricing data won't take fractional prices, only in units of plainum. And besides, the pricing data is to record what it costs to buy the item. Merchants' buying price is usually much lower than what a player will pay (although not in this case). Merchants sell these for about 8pp, but as I said in my previous post, they're too easy to get to pay even a single copper for it. If someone transports these to Antonica and sells them, they might get a litlle "import tax," and people might hire iksar newbies to get these for them to avoid getting too close to the Iksar guards, but come on, it's an extremely common drop off a level 1 or 2 mob, that's as good as a minotaur horn. Price on this should be 0, level to acquire should be 1.
