A solvent to destroy an Augment isn't needed. Simply right click on augment and choose destroy... POOF it is gone... save your plat ! Unless this has been nerfed along with a variety of other stuff.....
These used to be sold by the vendors at the wayfarer camps that sell the augmentation distillers. This is no longer the case. Currently they are only sold by the Magus at each camp and in the guild lobby. Great for getting rid of augments that you no longer want.
[EDIT - March 3, 2009: Nearly all augments can now be cheaply DESTROYED using the same 10p "Augmentation Solvent". These have become available in more convenient places such as the Guild Hall, Guild Lobby and the Bazaar.]
----
NOTE: Using an Augmentation Solvent on any inserted augment will PERMANENTLY DESTROY that augment !!!
An Augmentation Solvent is ONLY useful if you want to free up an augmentation slot and have no further use for the existing augment currently there. The benefit to this is that it is a MUCH CHEAPER way to clear an augment slot when you want to insert a new one. However, augments can be re-used in another piece of armor or weapon. Also, augments that were purchased from LDoN, DoN, or other NPC merchants can often be "sold" back to them for a partial recovery of points / crystals. Using an Augmentation Distiller you can safely remove an augment, but it can be expensive depending on which type is required (Examples: Class I = 1 plat, Class V = 50p, Class X = 250p, all the way up to Class XXI = 10,000p). Inspect your armor/weapon and click on the augment name to see what Distiller is required to remove it safely. Augmentation Solvents can be purchased from any Magus for approximately 10p if you want to destroy the augment. NOTE, you cannot sell Distillers or Solvents back to NPC merchants.
Augmentation Distillers and Solvents are used in the Augment Sealers which are at most LDoN (Wayfarer) camps and the Guild Hall. These containers work very similar to stationary tradeskill objects (Loom, Oven, Forge, etc.) They look like a large "bird bath" and are frequently referred to as this by players.
To use an Augment Sealer, left-click to open, then insert the Distiller or Solvent along with the armor or weapon you want to remove an augment from. If there are multiple augment slots, be sure the correct augment is selected that you wish to remove or destroy. If you are Deleting an augment, you MUST click on the augment from the list before continuing. When an augment is selected, click on the Remove or Delete button and the remaining parts will appear on your cursor. The Distiller / Solvent will be used up (ie. destroyed).
This process works the same for inserting an augment, except you drop it into the Sealer INSTEAD of a Distiller / Solvent. Again, be sure to select the desired augment slot you want it to be applied to as some augments can be placed in multiple slots (certain armor and weapons have more than one slot). Of course you probably knew this if you already have an inserted augment to remove.
To the best of my knowledge these solvents have been changed now. Any of the 3 slot specific solvents (ie: Slot 1 Solvent) now safely Remove the aug instead of destroying them.
All old gear with only one slot has that slot labelled slot 1.
For example
Slot 1, type 7: empty
is found on most old armors.
A slot one solvent will wash off a type seven augment, from this slot.
On LDON armors, some have as many as 3 slots, like:
slot 1, type 1: empty Slot 2, type 2: empty Slot 3, type 3: empty
NOTICE! there can only be 3 slots. Hence only 3 solvents. It doesn't matter if slot 1 is type 1, or type 2, or types 7, a slot one solvent will remove augments from THAT SLOT ONLY!
This thread is basically obsolete. When the "Aug destroyed?" question was asked, the answer was indeed yes, the aug is destroyed. Now, however, you have a choice, as described above: cheaply destroy the aug to make room for another (or to let you give/sell the item, if it was tradeable without the aug), or use one of the more expensive "distillers" to remove the aug while keeping it intact (for resale to the NPC merchant who sold it to you, or to put in another aug slot).
Kuponya's post on this page is an excellent summary, to which I'll add that you can also find "birdbaths" in the Guild Lobby (as well as Guild Hall) and in the Bazaar. The Guild Hall and Bazaar also have merchants who sell the distillers, but NOT the solvents.
Yeah, that sucks alot, what a waste of a good aug. Even if you put it ono your best gear, you will eventually upgrade it. There should be a way to keep the aug, and maybe downgrade it each time it gets removed, i.e. a +6 sta become +5 after one removal etc.
Look at it this way... At least you can apply augments to a piece of armor that *isnt* no-drop to begin with, then when you replace it, you can remove the augment and give/sell the item.
