Does this stack with Rune?

When it stacks, does it peel damage independently of the rune? or at same time? i.e. when hit with a spell do you lose 100% of damage from rune AND 20% from this Ward? or 20% from this and 80% from the rune etc?

Since Rune (i think) only absorbs melee dmg, it won't take anything if you get hit with Rune... but I'm not sure if Rune protects against spell dmg. If it doesn't it should only take from the absorb spell dmg spell.
