Assuming people would pay 6k for a tink bag, when Leatherfoot Haversacks are often 5k in the bazaar, and are better.

Greetings

Unless they changed it again, so long ago it feels like a hundred years I broke down and bought several of these for my own use, woke up 1 day with 1 bag in my inventory and a whole lots of inventory around me, seems eq DECICED TO MAKE A WHOLE MESS OF PREVIUOSLY NON LORE BAGS, LORE , so mabe they switched it back, but for at least a little while these were lore, but I have leanred while playing this game that there are so many wt reduc bags out there, and since eq does change the rules often it aint wize to have more than 1 of any bag. something to consider if like many of us you like the extra speed of little to no weight there are medicine bags thatb only have 25 wt reduc on them, I like these for food bags since food does not weigh much anyway. then with a bag of the tinkers and a leatherfoot haversack and a bfew others you can aquire you can have all the inventory and weight reduc you need w/o the darned nuisance of waking up 1 day surrounded by the loot which used to be in a bag that suddenly became lore.

Be Well

Leatherfoot haversacks hold Giant items as well. They are the exact same bag as a tink bag, except for the fact they are lighter, and therefore better.

Since the Leatherfoots run 5k-5500 on my server, I cannot imagine why anyone would pay more for a worse bag.

Can you define for me how .4 lighter is better? Not all of us play Monks :)
Even tho I am a GM tailor I still seem to have lots of Tinkerers bag and no Leatherfoot ones, Hmm is it beacuse they are only made by halflings?

You might want to fill your bank and shared slots with Deluxe Toolboxes, they cost a few plat are 10 slot and giant sized containers. Sold in POK by gnome merchant in North trade building. All bank slots on my main and alts are Deluxe Toolboxs.

Not sure why you would want to fill your bank with WR bags, but eh.

No, it's not a tinkering container.

He's actually refering to the toolbox not the bag of tinkers, and it is a good idea to fill your bank with giant 10 slot bags. I do the same myself only I fill my bank with trader satchels.
RE: NO LORE

Trader satchels arent bad to use for your bank, I like the toolboxes simply so I can pop one into my shared slots easily, or give it to an alt.

I used to buy blue diamonds from the vendors, but the npc vendors were nerfed a couple months ago. They now only hold the items that are visible in their inventory, so the blue diamonds are getting destroyed when people sell them to the merchants. The vendors get full of garbage loot very quickly after a patch, so the main BD vendors are destroying hundreds of BDs a day most likely. Try checking the vendors in gunthak, LDON camps, PoT, Nexus, PoK, etc. and you will see that none of them have any blue diamonds. You might get lucky and find one or two on one of them, but then someone will sell some crap to them and they will commence destroying any blue diamonds that people sell to them.

The haversack IS a pain to make. Don't expect anyone to be willing to trade it for a tink + 100pp. The haversack takes 36 tufts of dire wolf fur, 1 acorn oil, 3 blue diamonds, 3 platinum threads, 3 jars of acid, 3 purified waters. This is if you don't fail at all on the pre combines. with 200 pottery, 250 brewing, 190 smithing, 250 tailoring the failures on the pre-combines are about 5% on the pottery, brewing, and smithing. Haven't had any failures on the tailoring pre combines for a long time.
Blue diamonds are about 500pp in the bazaar on my server, I try to get the tufts at 30pp or less, the acorn oil costs about 50pp, and the platinum threads cost 210pp per. so 500x3 + (500x3x0.05[pottery pre-combine failure ratio])+
(500x3x0.05[brewing pre-combine failure ratio])+
(210x3) + ([1500+630] x 0.05[smiting failure ratio]) + (50pp for acorn oil/misty acorn)[the failure ratio on the acorn oil is 5-10% as well, but is incidental. Same for making the purified waters too].

so 1500 + 75 + 75 + 630 + (106.5) + 50 = 2436.5
this is for the 3 infused platinum threads.
now 36x30 for the tufts of dire wolf fur and you get 1080 for the tufts

so 2436.5 + 1080 = 3516.5pp

with 250 tailoring and a geerlok there seems to be only a 5-10% failure ratio as well so

3516.5 + (3516.5 x 0.05) =

3516.5 + 175.8 = 3692pp

note: the failure ratio at 5% is a best case scenario, and your best chance of getting that is if you do the combines in bulk. ie. 50 blue diamonds at a time. I've done 20 bds before and ended up only with 12 or 13 infused platinum threads. Same with the bags. Sometimes you will be succesfull 10 times in a row, but you can also fail 2 or 3 times in a row.

I've been selling the haversacks for 6k on my server, and the literally are bought in less than 5 minutes normally.

to be able to get the blue diamonds at 500pp or less you need to check the bazaar as often as possible. I usually clean out and bds that are under 500pp, so the other tradeskillers may be wondering why there's no bds under 500pp :)

same for the tufts. if there's a couple more people making the bags you may not be able to get the tufts, let alone for 30pp.

Well, basically, I would never trade a haversack for a tink, especially for only 100pp, I might consider it for 1k or more though.

OH yeah, it also will cost hundreds of kpp to get tailoring to 250, and much time camping the othmir furs, rockhoppers(almost always camped now. 1 level 65 can own the whole cave). The only way I could see making 250 tailoring in less than 3-6 months or so(assuming you're level 65 and play a few hours a day) would be if you had a few friends helping you with the component gathering.

Ok I buaght one of these and tried this trade with no sucuess or even reply's. Could just be that the Harversack is such a pain to make that noone has them. My question is now. Is the harversack worth the lower wt. for a MNK I saw one being sold by a PC in bazzar for 9k is this a rip off or is that what I'm going to have to pay to get the lower wt. bag?
RE: MONKS

haversack is 100% giant capacity, last i read. so, concievable...massive good buy for a monk because you finally don't have to let all items rot or TRUST that loots will be split at end of run. imho YES! get the bag. as for 9k. is a sellers market...so when i saw one for 5k and another for 15k. i figured, somebody would buy... just not me, as a lvl 48, i have never had more than 6kpp at any given time...but i'm working on it.

The only way this bag is available in the bazaar is if a player is auctioning it, do not be confused with the traders satchel that can be bought there it wieghs 25.0 the tinkers bag is 1.0
RE: available in the bazaar
# Dec 22 2003 at 8:20 AM Rating: Default
As with the pre-christmas Patch of 2003, bags 'CAN' be sol din the bazaar.

You have to turn them in to a female near the nexus bank in order to get a "token" with the same name.

The player then buys the token, goes to this female and hands the token in for the said bag.
Invis only helps a little
# May 07 2003 at 8:05 PM Rating: Excellent
Just bought this bag last night for 5259 PP. Nice to have a bag with 100% weight reduction that does not disappear when you log. Got it for my 53 druid, and even though everything in zone conned green, there was still A LOT of agro. Yes Invis or Camo will work with some of the Flame and Cinder Goblins, but there are Goblin Wizards and Shamans down there that see right through it. Once they hit, you invis pops off and the rest of them agro.

1. Get a map. This took me about 10 tries to find the right path. This is a very winding and confusing maze.
2. If you can not solo 2 or 3 of these guys at once, better go in a group.
3. Running will work only if you are very familiar with the zone. There are many confusing turns and pitfalls here. Also if you run, be prepared to have a huge train following you.
4. I bound myself just outside the zone and gated there when I got lost. Also was helpful just to root the Gobbies and gate out to start the maze over.
5. Once you get a little more than half way there, you will only see the clockworks, no goblins, so you really only need to fight through about half way through maze.
6. STR buffs and sow will help, 5-6k of PP will probably put you well over 200 stones. You need to sow in LavaStorm, before you enter SOL A. If you are in a group with VERY trusted friends or guildies, you may want to distribute the PP around instead of putting all on 1 character for weight reasons if you are one of the smaller classes.

After I got the bag and was no longer encumbered by the extra PP, decided to look around. Got the Platinum Armband of the Efreeti as well as the Obsidian Shard off the Kobold. Also got a few Fine Steel weapons of the Goblins. Not a bad night.
Attempted to buy it...

Went to Sol A, solo, to try and get the bag, while still level 31. I was overwhelmed with the amount of goblins you had to get rid off to get to the vendor. If your below lvl 41, go with a group and it shouldn't to tough to get to the vendor. Make sure you get a strength buff casted on you.. 5000pp is heavy.

CHA 100 Price 5963pp
CHA 114 Price 5628pp
CHA 128 Price 5329pp
CHA 133 Price 5250pp

I believe faction also affects price and I believe raises the charisma cap to get the best price. The druid above was getting the best price when he cleared 133 cha, so his faction may not be amiable.

# Jan 23 2003 at 12:40 AM Rating: Decent
Which would be a better buy? This bag weights 1.0 stone and sells for 5500pp approx, but the Leatherfoot Haversac weights 0.6 stone and sells for 6 to 7k. Is the 0.4 difference that much better?

Absolutely worth the difference. Put 5 of these in your slots, you've used up 5 wt allowance. 5 leatherfoots only use 3 wt.

2.0 is about 10% of the TOTAL weight a monk can carry without losing AC. Plus, since everything inside the bag weighs zero, the monk in question can now loot heavy items with impunity.

Yes, its monks who will be concerned with this. No it probably would not be worth it for a warrior with 255 str.

It also will be higher level players, who will be willing to pay for the difference. 7k, to many lvl 65's (and some level 50s) is chump change. For example, one guy yesterday in the bazaar was selling 19 Tae ew bloods, for 2500pp each. I know for a fact that he got over 2k for all of them. Thats 38-47.5kpp, on just one day's sales. Someone in his shoes, if they happen to be a monk, certainly would spend an extra 10k for 5 leatherfoot haversacks, over 5 of these. Do a search using bazaar feature for items over 40kpp. there are quite a few. When these guys sell that stuff, they buy upgrades, including 7kpp bags.

I agree with Xaanru completely in that 0.4 of a stone is a big difference. If a monk saves 0.4 on all pieces of equipment, it really adds up. It's just like upgrading an item on a war that gives 10 more hps than the last item. 10 hps is no big deal but if every slot adds another 10 hps it becomes a couple hundred over all. If you are concerned about weight you should save it where ever possible and if that means paying an extra 1k for a bag, so be it. Haversacks go for 6 to 6.5k on Torvo and I would not even think about getting my monk a tink bag. For my druid, it is less of an issue where all I am doing is trying to lessen the burden of acrylia ore and armor loot etc, in which case all I'm after is the 100% WR.

A unit of weight equal to 14 pounds.

http://home.clara.net/brianp/weights.html

I'm not sure if EQ actually uses stones as units of weight, but I've seen many players say it. It's definitely not stones from the English system. Even just 50 would be equal to 700 pounds.

Some monks are overzealous about their weight and have the bank accounts to fuel it.

So if you are a halfling that can make a Leatherfoot Bag (mad props to you if you can), don't be surprised if your customers are rich monks that are looking for a minute but better weight than a tink bag.

But other than that, .4 difference is irrelevant to other classes.

it's common that people think bags have been nerfed to no drop. the reason the no drop flag comes up onto it is because you have placed a no drop item in the normally droppable bag, to fix that problem. just take out the no drop item and your bag will be droppable

The scoop

Here is the full scoop on this bag:

It is sold by Marfen Binkdirple (name/spelling may not be correct), he is a gnome merchant in Solusek A in the little castle behind the Gabby spawn.

With ~135 Charisma, the bag costs 5,250pp. This is the lowest you can buy it for.

The bag is NOT nodrop, and it is NOT lore.

Essentially it's a much better bargain than the Kayruul's Mystic Pouch because it only weighs 0.6 more and doesn't cost you 10k or require you to roll against 50 other people for it.

Hope this helps.

Its nowhere to be found in the bazaar. Only way to buy it from a vendor there is if somebody sold it to the vendor.

They are called a Trader's Satchell (sp??). Weight is about 25 pounds, 10 giant slots.

It cant be boguth in the Bazaar but there is a merchant in the big room that rells Merchant's Satchel or something like that. They have 10 slots and can fit giant sized items but it is NO DROP so its used mostly for your bank because it also weighs 25. She might have gotten this confused with the Merchants Satchel because they look the same.
