[Quests | Comments ] This item is the result of a quest.
This is actually a really tempting quest to do but the thing that really bothers me is the fact that it's secondary and not range. For a class like a paladin or ranger you're going to have a shield(paladin) or another weapon(ranger) in the secondary slot. So it does seem more of a druid shaman item. :'( I guess I could do for my shammy then.

Just have a friend park an alt there and while your lvling with your friend just have him check periodicly if he's up and no ones already got him just have your friend hold spot till you get there. Well heres a game for ya heh if ya just wanna kill time waiten for web pages to up load and such no download so it wont take up any eq space. pretty fun i think
After seeing my friend with this..braging about the +10 wis...I wanted one for my druid which badly needs wis items and he also said it was easy to get it but I found out the Dylinn is a 8 hour spawn I nearly fell dead waiting for the @&^! page anyway I got it and combined it a book and got my +10 wis which makes my wis at 160 at 36 I'm maybe going to do this quest again with my friends shammy...this time I'm bringing my sk so I can knock out all the smugglers for fun instead of waiting for the spawn

Just look at all the pages that read page 30 of Veishell's Tome and buy it, no need to kill the guard and your fation for Qeynos remains. I have no info on buying the pg. 34 in stores.
Dylan Starsine popped when I was there but that flippin 40+ smuggler whiped the floor with me. Anywho I was wondering has anyone else had the problem where you combine the two pages in the book and the name of the container changes to testament of Vanear but no stats and it's still a container.??? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
Update: Ifigured it out it was my own noobness thanxs
One caveat, If you need good faction in Qeynos be aware that I fell from ALLY to DUBIOUS by doing this quest. I started in Surefall and killed many 100s of gnolls and turned in many gnoll fangs to get to ally.
So be wary if you need faction in Qeynos.. You may need to go back to Blackburrow.

Don't forget that there are two factions in Qenyos, the Corrupt guards and the good ones. Dylan Starshine might give you a faction hit with the corrupt guards, but not the good ones. I did this quest, and did not notice nearly that big of a faction hit, though the corrupt guards were never too keen on me, and they still weren't afterwards :)
Okay here are the details for this quest and it only involves HHP and Qeynos. You will take some kind of faction hit so go kill gnolls in Blackburrow to help with that for killing Dylin Starsine.
Not mine but good detail.
Located in Highpass Hold, there is a secret area under the pond. This area is a smugglers' den. Find a man by the name of Dyllin Starshine, he is the only one there that looks like a Qeynos Guard. He is around level 12-16. Kill him and loot his corpse for the Page 30 of Veishell's Tome. The faction hit include (-Corrupt Qeynos Guard, +Guards of Qeynos, -Kane Bayle, -Circle of Unseen Hands, -Blood Sabers) Beware that when you attack him, the smugglers around him will attack you so be careful. Now travel to Qeynos and locate the Crow's Tavern, (In North Qeynos). Wait for a man by the name of Moodoro Finharm to come out of the Tavern and puke in the pond. Give him 2 gold and he will give you a two slot book. Then tell him you want the page 34. He then offers to play a game. You give him 4 gold and he gives you a card. If it is a King, Queen, Beggar, or Knight then keep on giving 4 gold until you get the Jester. This may take a long time to get the Jester so be prepared to spend some money. Once you get the Jester, give it back to him and he will give you page 34. Combine the pages in the page and you have got the Testament of Vanear. Note: I have been told that it is safer to get the book and page 34 before you get page 30 because the faction lost when killing Dyllin Starsine may make you KoS in Qeynos.

Just completed this last night, was relatively easy for my 30 ranger. hehe
The part in Qeynos get ready to spend around 8-10 plat to get the Joker card that you turn back in to the same guy for page 34. You have to keep handing the Moodoro 4g until you get the joker I almost lost patience with this part. I think I spent about 10 plat.
The other part in HHP was as well, since I didn't get any adds from smugglers b/c of my lvl. You may however get some adds if you are around 15-18 lvl.

Ok at first this quest seemed really hard, but I talked to a couple of people that had already done it and they pointed me in the right direction. After 1hour I was in HPH and I was lost. I had 30min till the next patch so a friend came to watch out for me. It took us 15 min to find the place, 5min to find the camp,I made first attempt to kill Dyllin, the rogue BS me 3 times for 350each, Myrrlyn got my body. It took 3min for the rogue to leave our second plain worked (thanks to Myrrlyn. I got the page and got back to safty with 2 min till patch. Total time 1 1/2 hours. Most of which was spent lost and confused. This was a fun and exciting quest.
Am I the only who have had problems with this quest?
I need this item for my level 40 Warrior, since I'm trying to become a Guild Master Fletcher, and the +10 WIS will surely help. I started the quest last night and found myself in Highhold half an hour later. I had brought a 51st level shammy friend to keep me company, if it was to be a long camp. He was grouped with me.
Dyllin was up, and we decided to kill him. He went down in 1 second, but then we got the message, that this was a trivial challenge for the party, and he only dropped the letter. What did I do wrong?
Farudin Leander 40th level Goon Warrior of Rallos Zek Firiona Vie
Ok, I am not that familiar with FV trivial loot code, but couldn't you get a couple level 15-20's to slaughter dylin for you, then let you loot the page?
I'd imagine that, with the 51 shammy to buff them before hand, a couple low levels would make toast of dylin.
On Firiona Vie, the trivial loot code takes effect if you are a much higher level than the mob you are trying to kill. So no matter how many times you kill him, he will never drop what you need. The solution? Either buy the testament from someone else or get someone of lower level (around 16 or so) to kill Dyllin and loot for you.
there is a problem with that... It's the book and all parts associated are No Drop Items... I had no problems getting this book with my 22 druid, except for the jester... cost me 25pp to get that 1 card, I got a lot of knights though...

Obviously You are not familiar with the FV server. Here's what happened. On Firiona Vie Server, there is a trivial loot code, so that if you don't get exp from the mob, it will only drop like coin, or non-unique drops. Another unique thing about Firiona Vie server is that almost everything is Dropable, including many quest items, and their results, so, yes, this warrior could buy the ToV on FV server, but not on a regular server.

Had been meaning to this quest for awhile, after reading about the long camp, I decided to skill up Baking(97) & Fishing while waiting for Dyllin, never got a chance to, got the jester card on first try. When I got to Highhold Pass, he was already up, with no one else in zone. the red smuggler was already down water. hit him with creeping crud, & used the levitate trick to pull him over the cliff edge to High keep ent, with 2 green smugglers coming along. root & 3 careless lightnings, zoned to clear aggro, zoned back, & he was dead.
Wahoo! My 25th druid got this last night. Couldn't get the Erudin folk to talk to me, but by giving Moodoro 2gp last night, I was able to completely ignore the first part of the quest. Of course, I'd managed to off Dyllin after about 4 attempts... hamony helped on that one, then a quick casting of a ring spell to get me the heck outta there! THEN I celebrated. My secret to success was coming back in after a patch. Great item!!!
While mending spell Conjuration skill was very low about 30, I just cast summond food till mana run out to build up my skill for the casting of Swarm. So, I get a tell from high level about a no drop item. I quickly loot page 30 and a letter. 2hours later I replace my SBS Shiney Brass Shield with Testament of Vanear. 0919 You say, 'Hail, Dyllin Starsine's corpse' 0936 a smuggler regards you indifferently -- looks like quite a gamble. 1003 You say, 'looted a bayle list 3 and page 30 of a book' So I cast Sow and run all the way to Qeynos... . 132205 You say, 'Hail, Moodoro Finharn' 132205 Moodoro Finharn says 'I didn't know Slime could speak common..go back to the sewer before I lose my temper.' 132209 Moodoro Finharn says 'Oh look..a talking lump of refuse..how novel!' 132211 Moodoro Finharn says 'Is that your BREATH..or did something die in here..now go away!' 132219 Moodoro Finharn says 'I wonder how much I could get for the tongue of a blithering fool..leave before I decide to find out for myself.' 132225 Moodoro Finharn looks your way apprehensively -- looks quite risky, but might be worth a try. ... such a bad temper! even as a tree infront of him. 132353 You say, 'what about the Testament of Vanear' 132353 Moodoro Finharn says 'So you have heard that good old Moodoro has knowledge of the Testament of Vanear. I care little for that book. Of course I have it!! If you want it, I will sell it to you for two gold pieces.'
So, I give Moodoro 2 GOLD... .
132249 Moodoro Finharn says 'HA!! I hope you enjoy the book. It is missing pages 30 and 34. It is nothing more than garbage without them. A rogue ripped them from their bindings and sold them to [Ran].'
So, I put the PAGE 30 in the BOOK from MOODORO!
132438 You say, 'I want page 34' 132438 Moodoro Finharn says 'So, you know I have page 34. Pretty smart of me to tear the most important page out before someone else tried, eh? If you really want it, then sit down and deal in. Ante is 4 gold. I will give you one card. If it is a jester, then I will give you the page. Let's do it.'
So, I give 4 GOLD to MOODORO... .
Jester Card I then give back to MOODORO and he hands me PAGE 34 which I place and hit combine.

I got this item not twinked, but with the very esteemed Gallatin of the 7th Hammer assisting me, at around 18th level I think. You see, I'm not sure becasue it was a year and a half ago and now Gallatin is retired and I'll probably ding 54 tomorrow or the next day (1 yellow bub, 1 yellow bub).
This item is still in my primary hand, and I still cast SOW all the time, but it's in my hand because off the 10 wis and +10 mana, because I haven't gotten a better item yet.
Trust me, this item is very good...and after 20 you shouldnt be getting hit much anyway. The rich of course can circumvent the camp (and the fight, which is not exactly totally safe) by buying a Book of Rings (worse) or a book of Obulus (better by a little, and expensive)... if you're truly rich, of course you could look at a Bone Braced Buckler...but then I'd have to slap you--and take it =-)

If you don't like my ideas, maybe you'll like my dogs...
Actually, at level 20 or so when most people get their testaments, unless twinked, Save your money and buy yourself a charred guardian shield for 200 plat. 1 less Wis but 10 AC as well. Much more Valuable than the Testament. Plus by the time you waited the 6 3/4 to 8 1/2 hour spawn, possibly more if there is a line ahead of you, you could easily raise the necessary 200 plat to buy one plus get XP while waiting and NOT be bored off your ass. I wish I had know this before camping The testament 3 times.
And as for the mana preservation I. So you save 10% on a spell that costs 60 to cast. Big deal. Lot of good that 6 mana will do you when you're dead from getting the crap beat out of you. Don't underestimate the power of 10 ac. And the CGS will last you well into 40's. And did I mention the Boring camp? hehe. But thats just a tip from a 49 cleric and 34 Druid. everyone has different opinions. Happy Adventuring!
I have a Book of Obulus on my 20 druid, it does +8Wisdom +8Int (and a bunch of resists, and i think it adds to mana) it also does Improved Healing II. Is this book better than the Book or Obulus, or would it pay to have both? Thanks!
Just an FYI...while buffing your group (as a cleric OR druid) keep the ToV on ya. SoW falls under the lvl 20 guideline so you save mana there. However, when healing (as druids do until about mid 40s in groups...clerics always...) I would keep this on me. If I had to choose, the Book of Obulus would win out, hands down. 2 wis vs. increased healing wins in my book. Then, again, I just had guildies die because my druid Greater Healing has a penalty on it vs. Clerics...and I am looking to get one of these...hehehe...

Confirmed - It is now mana preservation (patch applied 11:00 GMT) I comleted the quest at about 14:00 Im guessing that it reduces the mana cost of cast spells

Only problem with this is the if it is truly "Mana Preservation I", then the effect only works on spells up to L20. This is a real slap in the face for an item that you cannot realistically get until about L15.
I really think that it should be Mana Preservation II. This would allow it to work on spells up to about L40/44. This would be more appropriate.
at 25, my druid still uses SoW and Snare often, plus (off the tp of my head) the level 19 heal (don't get a new one until 29), cure poison and disease, barcoat, shield of barbs, invigor, levitate, five self ports, and a few others. Mana Preservation I is still good for a while after 20. besides, i didn't get the Testament for the Focus Effect. i got it for the 10 wis.
speaking of, i read about this item early this afternoon, and had it within a few hours, most of that taken up by waiting for Dyllin.
I dunno - at lvl 27 I still cast a lot of low lvl spells, summon food & water, top up heals, bind, gate, invis to undead, etc. Plus any bonus is a good bonus :)

Due to how camped this quest ALWAYS is... many if not most do not get this item until in their 20's. By that time, it turns into more than just a slap. :)
I agree, this should be II, since many healing types who get this will probably use it until late 30s to mid 40s, if not a little longer. Mana Pres II would work through the normal life of this item, Mana Pres I is only good for casting SoW and Lev, if you don't have another II.
Reminds me of Braided Ivy Cords... another I that you are well past before you can even get.
Actually the new effect on this item is "Mana Preservation 1 (Worn)"... I have been carrying the book for quite a while, and it never had this effect before tonight: When I logged in, the first spell I cast generated a message that said something to the effect of "Your Testament of Vanear glows with a pale light" or something like that... I looked at the book, and now has this effect!

Enchanters summon lots of stuff! like... uh... /blink pets? Gotta be those super uber, nolongermezbreaking pets. ^_~
(which I still think should be able to take at least one or two orders at the very least... "Pet, become visible." "Sorry master, no clothes still master." They're all male, ya know)
Ok, I did the quest 3 times in 3 days for each of my alts, 36 cleric, 19 druid and 21 druid. I waited my turn to camp only to witness the guy camping (for 5 days for one char) get ks'd. He was soooo fed up. I sat with him for the next spawn only to see him sitting there while Dyllin spawned for 20 min without moving--he fell asleep. Someone else came along, asked me about the two of us, and killed Dyllin after I told him it was the other guy's spawn. Ten min later he woke up. I guess he figured it was his own fault and some of you may agree, but I wonder what ever happened to the honor between players? Anyway, he said he figured around 7 hours between Dyllin spawns, after doing it 3 times (and being ks'd 3 times) I figure around 6 and a half to 7 and a half hours. I was able to camp pretty much straight thru mostly because my wife would sit here with my chars while I slept, but being ks'd so much made me almost give up on the thing. That being said, I am very happy with the book and use it alternately with my shield (for my druids.) Would I do it all over again? Definately!! Side note: I spent something like 120pp altogether on the card game for all of my chars. Annoying but still worth it.
I thought I'd do this one night with my druid alt, got to Dyllin's spawn point and he wasn't up, so I figured that someone else had killed him and I just had to sit and wait for the spawn. Well 8 hours later he spawned, bearing in mind he wasn't up when I got there :(
The 'Jester Card' found in Qeynos Hills is dropped (NO don't kill him!) by Guard Chestlin. Just wait for him to spawn at the Tower, then follow him. He takes a walk around zone and drops 4 Cards. He stops and says something everytime he drops a card. The only thing about following him is that the only way this Green Guard survives the full circuit is if you help him kill everything he tries to fight. I think he's like a level 7 Guard,..so Rabid Bears and Tovax will kill him quick. Once your done saving him from himself you can give him the 4 cards for Coin and faction, or use the Jester for ToV.
Chakry Shattenjager Ranger of the 32nd Storm Pactus Aquilus Druzzil Ro
Let's see here....It's been awhile, but I think I remember most of what I had done to get this quest done. I had higher lvl friend of mine help me by taking me where I need to go and stuff. He took me first to go and kill Dylan. Unlike when he helped my mom with someone else there, he didn't wait for the guy already camping him to kill and loot him. When Dylan popped (about 5mins, luckily enough) he killed him for me (we were in a group), I looted, and we ported out, before the other guy even saw what happened, I think. To this day I still feel sorry for him. NEway, we hit the bank just to get some extra gold, didn't know how much i'd need to spend. We then went and got my jester card. It took a few times after the first initial pay...but I got it :) Very surprisingly (my mom and dad took a lot longer waiting for Dylan to pop, almost a full day) I finished the quest in about 10-15 mins! I was soo Happy!
Just your average shaman here with a few thoughts on the ToV.
I got my ToV around lvl 33(a little late) this is a great item at lower levels. But at higher levels this thing isn't that great for a shaman. When you get agro you need AC. I carry around the Shield of Falsehood for the 16 ac and 5wis 30mana it gives me. You might as well start the epic and get your shield. Yea it has less over all mana but the 16ac is worth more then the lost 25 mana. Even a charred Guardian Shield 10ac 9 wis is better for shaman, 19mana less then ToV.
(FYI slowing mobs can tear agro from the best tanks and god forbid you get resisted agro is twice as bad.)
So aspiring shamans out there yea this is nice and pretty cheap to get, but overtime I found Im wearing my SoF more then the ToV. CGS is pretty cheap 200 to 350 pp on my server. So if you are thinking about doing the quest cool its really easy and a higher lvl friend can get you a ToV at Lvl 1 if you like. But shamans don't neglect your AC every little bit helps. Besides Im a barbarian and blind as a bat, the CGS and SoF are a good light source too.
For a shaman the ToV is nice and is a fun little quest, but I feel that a good shield with AC and decent Wis is worth more than a ToV anyday. Go get your epic shield its pretty easy to get. However, I wont get rid of my ToV because it helps getting your trade skills up.
As for Druids this is something that every one of you should get. Its lighter then most shields so you can carry more loot. And you can easily solo without getting hit.
Thanks for the insight Tholos. I was thinking about finishing this for my 42 druid, but realized that the 1 extra WIS he'll gain over the CGS isn't worth it in the long run. Yes, AC all the way.
I finished this quest a couple days ago...and it took me about 15 minutes total to complete. I went to Qeynos first and tracked Moodoro...gave him 2gp and got the book...gave him 4gp and on second try I got the Jester...gave it back and got the page. I immediately ported to WC and ran to HP...since it was my first time there I figured I'd just find the smugglers area. I threw up track and couldn't believe that Dyllin Starshine was up after all I read I thought it would be hours. No one was camping so I waited til no smugglers were around and root/nuke...only hitch was a smuggler joined in and I had to loot and run...jumped from cliff and gated. Testament was more than worth the little effort I had to put in...Thank you to all that posted here!

Or you could just use your mind of you don't have the $40/month and come on at a time where you know he won't be camped. My Druid went on Superbowl sunday (5 mintues before kick-off). Sure enough he was there, root, nuke, I have a new book, that simple and no waiting.

Well I just finished this quest today and i'd have to say that this is easy. I got the Joker on the first try, and I can confirm that you don't have to go to Erudin to get the book that you put the pages in. Just give that Erudite guy 2gp and then you have. I got the container, had a guild teleport me back to WC and I was off to Highhold Pass. The toughest part of this quest for me was the fact that someone kill that Starshine guy. Me and my friend had nothing to do so we decided to camp him for an hour. As we were just about to give up POP!!! There he was. Rooted him and meleed him to death. Everyone's luck varies on getting the Jester. But I definately think that this quest is worth the time.

Lanian Silverspeed <Thirteenth Gate> Druid of the 52nd Season Fennin Ro
I just got this last night....I started in Qeynos (no need to go to Erudin), Got the stuff from Moodo (think thats his name) around level 13. It did cost around 5 pp to get the stuff...that card showed up eventually. Well, at 19 I decided to get page 30. Lo and behold, he was there. we killed him, looted the page, then gated back to gfay (Playing on Sullon Zek, HHK is smack dab in the middle of Neut territory, I'm a good btw). Combined it all and am currently using it:)
the jester card spawns in QH on the hill behind the cottage. i've found it there plenty of times but didn't know what it was for. but for those tired of paying u can't beat free. oh and cant beat dyllin yet but got the other 2/3 after only 10pp =)
Ok peoples...this is an EASY quest for the exceptional stats.
Just hit 22 (druid) and I figured I give this a shot. Ran to Qeynos, dropped the Erudite 2gp for the book container and then spent 24gp for the jester card (got it on my sixth try).
So then I cruised over to HPH and checked out the camp. Since I was a bit nervous with everyone talking about the smuggler that cons RED, I kept camoflaged while I camped...also since I wasn't sure, when I logged out (went to dinner 30 minutes after checking camp), I logged out next to the building, by the docks.
Well...after dinner, I relogged and set up behind the first tree on your left when you enter the smuggler's camp ground clearing. You should be looking across the camp, at a kiln and an oven. Inbetween these two, there is a lamp post...that is where Dyllin will spawn. I got lucky. After I relogged, he spawned within the hour.
Now...pathing on the RED smuggler. His resting spot, if you are facing the lamp post, is to the right. He will walk down to the water tunnel and sit there for a few, walk back to the campsite, up the ramp to your left, and then return to his resting spot. Once Dyllin spawns, wait for the RED smuggler to enter the cave that leads to the water tunnel...once he does, LAY WASTE ON DYLLIN. Run up to Dyllin, and attack. I started off snaring him, but as long as you are in his face, he sticks to you. He does try to run at the end, but as long as you have enough for one more spell, you should easily get him. I nailed him with careless lightning, and at level 22, ended up with half health and half mana.
This quest is highly doable solo...and +10 wis/mana is a great reward.
A friend of mine saw this item in some site and told me about it.... I went to Queynos when I was level 18 and give Moodoro 2 gp for the book and about 12gp more for the jester =))) I know! I was really lucky! After that I went to HPH and looked for the place... but it was camped. The lady that was there had camped the place for about 5 hours, but I asked her to tell me whenever she leaves or killed Dyllin... meanwhile I went to kill some gnolls and after a few minutes she told me she was leaving so I would need to camp Dylling for just a couple of hours. After two and a half hours Dyllin poped up. A friend of mine... a 26 lvl WAR was there to help me. We attacked him and got aggroed by one of his pals... but just a blue one... We managged to kill them both but unfortanetly tha high level smuggler appeared and killed both of us. I had binded myself in the zone so I runned back and grabed my corpse and the last page =))) I got it!! Let me tell you... just for a couple pps and 2 blue bubbles of exp its a great deal!!
I hope you can all get this as easy as I did.

Well, the Testament WILL give you around 58 mana points, so basically, do you want more mana, or do you want to stick with the resists? Can't you use both items?
Not sure how lalor did the calculations, but it is only accurate at level 24.
By level 30, the testament gives 70 mana At level 40, its up to 90 mana.
Listen to Falloraan. Get both ,and use as the situation dictates. That is a very nice piece of resist gear, hold on to it for caster heavy zones, or raids. Use the testament for most exp grinding situations.
THX for the help but unfortunately i can not use both items, i think im going to stick with the eye for now. At my last guild event I was hit by a 130 someodd nuke and it only for like 78 =)

It was a thrill to get this! And I surely put in my time and money for it. I was one of those people who had to spend 20 plat to float the Jester card and then spend five hours camping Dyllin. Fortunately nobody seemed to want him that night but me so I didn't have to deal with KSing. I did spend most of that time down by the water timing the smugglers who path there. I'd read that Dyllin, once he pops, with stroll around the smugglers area and then wander down to the water and for a brief time is completely alone there, so no smugglers will jump in to help him and possible kill you (Dyllin himself was pale blue to me at level 21), but there are some smugglers in there who were red. So I timed them and yes, there's a 3 minute (sometimes 3 1/2 minute) interval when there are no other smugglers there. If you don't feel comfortable trying to fight him up near the lean-to where he pop, that might be the place to take him. I was lucky just as he spawned a friend of mine showed up to give me some support and I was able to take him out where he stood, classic root dot nuke nuke. But if you need to, follow him to the water and do it there.
I've done the first part of this quest in my very early twenties and had the book with one letter in it sitting in the bank for ever. waiting for Dyllin seemed to tedious and dangerous...
Now at 30 I was waiting for a group in HHK and thought, ah, what the hell, let's see if that guy (Dyllin - even forgot the name) is there. He was on track, I ran over, waited for the head baddie to go away and killed him with a couple of nukes.
Now I have the testament (and thank Tunare one more slot in the bank) but I'm torn. Do I replace my charred guardian shield with this? I like to melee a bit and giving up 10AC and a major light-source for 1 WIS and 10 Mana is a hard choice...
What are your thoughts?

You carry both. You swap them out depending on your situation. It just goes in your standard bag of gear that you switch on and off in your travels. :)
Yay, not so hard for me, guess I'm kinda lucky, well for the most part. First time I heard about ToV I couldn't figure out the jester card / book thing (hehe noobie i know /bow) so i figured I'd just do the hard part and kill Dyllin first and ask all the potential KS'ers what to do with it =P . But I got bored of camping him and turned it over to the next in line after 4 or 5 hours (she was VERY excited). Forgot about EQ for the holidays.
Came back, level a little, remember I need wisdon (hehe nother newbie mistake, my base is only like 80 or 90 i forget) figured out the whole quest thing, thank god I didn't go to Erudin. Anyway, it took me 15 (#*# pp to get the jester card and here's what I can tell you. I read posts below stating that I should try and give him gp from the left almost behind him. Just speculation, tried that for 9 pp. Went to the bank, tried some more. When I finally got the card I was right in front of him. Guess it's totally random, love the phrase he says too, "thought we we're really gonna drain you" or something like that. Ok now I'm broke, whatever, I got to HHP, dyllin is up, i ask if he's camped, no one even knows what I'm talking about. Wait, Harmony others (not the boss hehe), root nuke dead, got my ToV.
Everyone should do this quest, it rocks. I mean come on +10 wis +10 mana for (me) 11pp!! Now I feel like a real Druid, especiall since this is my first great quest item :) EQ is sooo much fun now that I'm high enough to quest for the (semi) good stuff hehe. Best of luck to all of you trying to get this.
I heard about this quest from another Wis caster at loio. I decided to log out and check this site for details. When I got back, I paid for a druid to port me to WC, where I bound myself, then port me to Surefall.
Gave 2 gp to moodoro for the book, and about 2 plat for the jesters card, I gated back to WC and ran to HP.
There were only 8 people in the zone at 5:30 P.M. MST, so I bound myself and then I jumped in the water and swam around looking for the smugglers. I was planning on finding his spawn point, and I wanted to log out and come back when it's less busy, but Dyllin was there when I arrived.
I rooted him, and smited him 2 times, then root came undone and he started to melee me. I decided to work on 1hb and channeling, and I was able to hit him with 2 more smites. This caused him to run away. Unluckily for me, his running caused the smugglers to aggro. I smited him 1 more time, grabbed the page and ran a ways before I gated in zone. I combined the book, then I died because the smugglers found me, and had a guard with them :^p
Anyways, it took 2.2 plat for the jesters card and book, 2 blue bubbles of EXp, and no camping time!
The hardest part of the quest is finding the places. I spent more time looking for the bank, Moodoro, HHP, and Dyllin than having any action. I must have spent 1.5 hours in Qeynos looking for the bank and Moodoro. I was only 19 DRU w/o track. It was so confusing. I had a guide bring me to the bank the first time. I found my way back to NQ fast the first time and paid for the book. Played a few games, no Jester and out of cash. Looked for a really long time for the bank. Finally found it. Returned for Moodoro and he wasn't there. So I went searching for him at Sewer entrance. Nothing. Ran around in circles looking for bank and then way back to NQ. Finally found them. Then waited a little for Moodoro. Shouted for help for location of him. A reply and he was in the damned tavern or whatever was in front of the pond. Played a few plat for the Jester. Ran for HHP. Found it. Took the bottom road. Wrong way. It was a long long long long road. Went up to HHP and found a mudtoe/reinforced 19 DRU HLF near entrance. Called him for help finding and killing Starshine. He had no idea what quest I was doing. After a while he showed me to the correct bandit camp. Dyllin wasn't camped. The posts around here say that you should wait for him to walk to the waters, but that isn't right. When that happened, one of the red bandits was swimming there. So we waited for him to go back. After the area around him cleared.. the red was nearby so I waited for the bandit to leave... root, we both DoTed.. wut a waste.. nuked like crazy. Down in 2 or 3 casts. After that, I've never seen Dyllin around each time I came on. The book is beautiful, but I lose like 10 AC from a shield. Finding my way around HHP was a problem too. Why is it I have so much trouble finding my way around towns? Must be the weird layouts of the cities. Has anyone noticed how very hard it is to find something in most cities? The only city I've been in that wasn't hard to find something was Thurgadin so far. Problem was, when I first went there at level 10, all the NPCs were slaughtered a few times over. Had to wait a really long time for the bank to respawn.
I camped my 32 Barb Shaman near the spawn spot, and everytime I logged on I logged my shammy first and last to see if he was up. I had gotten a bit sick of it and was about to give up and go buy a CGS, when I logged on to transfer some items over and, voila! A root and two nukes later the page was in my sweaty little hands :)))
Point to note, if you take this method I recommend you start by casting all relevant buffs on yourself and then medding to full, before logging out. This way, when you finally see him you will be at your best, in case you need to slug it out, run it out, gate in a hurry, or do a major mana dump to get the kill first.
In my excitement I completely forgot about the red smuggler and just started casting as soon as I saw DS (conned green at 32). I was very lucky because about 2 seconds after he hit the deck, the big red nasty walked past glowering at me!
The problem I am having however, is getting the other page. The erudite guy is dub to me, though I got the book ok and if I say the right things he hands over the cards, but I've spent probably 50pp and still no jester. If I hear one more story about getting the Jester on the first go I'm gonna puke! I gave up and went off to camp Dylan, since getting the other page I haven't been back to try again. Does anyone have any suggestions? Not having the other page first wouldn't matter would it? He gives me the other cards ok just not the jester, could faction be the cause? I've had backpacks full of the other cards and this testament is starting to look like a slow, expensive alternative to getting a CGS.
Vaelenu, your post here seems to be quite old and i don't know if it will be of any interest to you anymore, but here goes anyway: i did this quest three times for three chars and spent a total of around 120pp on the joker. still i feel it was worth it. the first one i lucked out on, the other two were more expensive. just wanted to let you know that you're not the only one that Moodoro totally raked in from.
Sorry Vaelenu...can't recall any other way to get page 34 without the Jester card. But on the one hand, it is true...it doesn't matter which page you get first. Good Luck, hope you get it soon. I really don't think faction makes a difference on how soon you get the Jester card.
I was dubious to that Modooro guy too and got the card on the second try (yeah, you can puke now). Hope you get it. I still am holding mine, brings me closer to 200 wisdom.
At least you're done with the over camped part of the quest. I did remember that someone said something about standing or sitting behind or to the side of Modooro may help your chances.
I do recall I was way to the left of him when I played his card game. Was standing almost behind him I think (was still leery about the fact he wanted to cut off my tongue earlier).
Hehehe...Mr Flynn sure has a nice name, but no relation. I play on Tarrew Marr but if you know this Flynn fellow, send him my regards. Good luck again. I just know you'll get it this time around.
Who-Hoo! One quest down, five more to go. Completed the "Library Book" quest that gives you the Testament of Vanear. A 10 Wisdom, 10 Mana book item.
At first I thought I had a problem because that Modooro guy hated me when I hailed him. My friend and I thought it was faction so we went to Erudin and killed almost all the Kobolds there (Poor Aluyen, was probably yawning out of sheer boredom).
LMAO faction from dubious to indifferent after all that.
So I went to Qeynos, gave Modooro 2gp and said "Give me page 34". He then gave me the book cover and offered to play the card game.
I was lucky to get the Jester card on the second deal! Cost me 10gp in all!
Then my friend and I went to seek out Dyllin in the smugglers grove. After 3 hours (verrry late like 2:00am PST), called it quits.
Relogged at around noon PST the next day and waited an hour, killed Dyllin in like 2 minutes! Root/dot/nuke/nuke/snare/nuke picked up the page and ported out. WARNING: Make sure the head smuggler isn't around when you kill Dyllin. Head smuggler will be the only smuggler that cons red.
First, I got the page and book from the Moodoro (before killing Dyllin) so I didn't have to go to Qeynos after killing Dyllin starshine. Got the jester fairly quickly and Moodoro did give me the book container for 2 gp. I camped Dyllin by camp/logging next to the overhang where he stands. I logged in early weekend mornings and twice when i "woke-up" he was there big as life and i was alone. The first time I screwed-up and got killed by the red smuggler. I was a little more careful the second time. Had my bind set at Highpass zone and had gate, harmony and blast spells memed. The red smuggler walks back and forth in the same pattern. When the red smuggler walked down to the water area out of sight I harmonied the nearby smugglers and blasted away at Dyllin with spells only (no melee, what's a druid doing meleeing anyway). The smuggler left me alone and as soon as i looted I gated out. Also you can run out over ledge. I'm not sure if the smugglers left me alone because of Harmoney or not meleeing as mentined in other posts, but either way it worked for me.
I used the 2GP trick to get the book, got the Jester on the 3rd try. Then spent about 2 weeks, checking Dyllin - 50% of the time I found somebody camping, other 50% of the time: no Dyllin. I kept myself bound to his spawn point and checked when starting a session and when ending a session (able to port myself - Level 21 Druid). I finally walked through at 2:00pm on a Monday afternoon and he was on track. Ran to his spawn point (had just moved my bind point), and in a fit of "I know somebody is about to come KS", so I rooted and started nuking. Smugglers aggroed on me and dead in about 3 seconds. Ported myself to Karana, SOWed and ran back. Luckily nobody was there, bound myself at entrance, looted my corpse, buffed up, then I stood on the barrels close by (ala Puppit's post), root (no take), dot, nuke, nuke, snare, nuke, nuke, dead, Testament of Vanear. +10 WIS +10 MANA
I did this quest yesterday and I know a way you dont have to aggro the smugglers if you fight Dylin at his spawn point, to the right of his little tent are some barrels, stand on those barrels, buff up, and the proceed to snare him and then root him while standing on those barrels, a smuggler walked by when I did that and he didnt aggro, i was level 16 killing dylin, took 2 bubs of life and all but a bub of mana for nuking the crap out of him. Got the page in less than 1 hour of camping, last time i did it, it took 8 hours, got lucky this time =)

RE! SPECT! WALK! WHAT DO YA SAY? RE! SPECT! WALK! ARE YOU TALKIN' TO ME?
That is a known tactic. To wait for him to walk to the water's edge. Or some post said the 50+ smugler walks around the corner out of sight. Basically when he is away from his big scary buddy, WALLOP him.
Almother note I read stated the under use of the CLERIC's Divine Aura. I have heard Dylan is a pretty easy kill, But I have heard of the bouncer guy comming back to smack you down before looting Dylan. Drop a DIVINE AURA on yourself, LOOT, run and FALL where the dangerous NPC (3 of them usually) are on map. THEN run through to guards and even zone if need be. Even without SoW its a quick run. Falling down is a VERY fast get away. And 18 seconds of invincibility does not hurt at all. hope that helps people think ouside the box.
Level 20 and level 15 druid. Kept checking on and off until we found him spawned with no one camping. He sits under the little tent for quite awhile, but eventually walks to one of the little cave areas, and then down to the water, where he's alone (or will be shortly, when the smuggler walks off, if there is one). Plenty of time to snare and nuke him there, and no smuggler ever knows the better. ;) So, be patient and let him walk down to water, and he's waaaaaay too easy. ;D
Took my 29 druid and 40 cleric to high pass. Fell in pool, swam around ..found smugglers.
Dyllin wasn't there.
Camped out and checked a few times throughout the day. One creeping crud and a few careless lightning and he was dead. Logged druid out and logged cleric in and grabbed the page. There was a druid there madlly clicking on the corpse when my cleric logged in.
Went to Queynos North, found Moodoro by the pool and hailed him. He called me slime. Gave him 2 gold and he gave me the containter. Gve him 60 darn gold (4 gold at a time) and finally got a jester. Gave him the jester, placed both pages in the book, combined, and presto! 10 wisdom, 10 mana.
The whole quest maybe took 2 hours - tops and that was trying to get a port. Otherwise it wouldv'e been less than an hour.
Oh yeah, smuggler killed my druid, but I could've had him, 'cept i wasnt packing a weapon. They never resisted, they hit like babies.
If you are talking about the corrupt quenos guard faction. kill some orc or gnolls in Highhold pass, and turn scalps in to gate captains, or kill goblins in high keep and turn in the ears. All three raise sevral factions and lower none.
Include freeport militia and Corrupt qeynos guards, as well as some of the highhold factions.
