It works fine, just completed it with agnostic dark elf at lvl 8. alliance works too, went from aprehensive to indifferent to hand in book. why? old times sake. many items much better in the bazaar.
Be warned if you should feel like doing this quest I think it has been nerfed.
I have an agnostic enchanter and I cannot get the Ogre's to let me do the turn ins. I've slaughtered many Dwarf guards and still nothing. I cannot even do the newbie Lizardman Meat quest to raise faction. Clurg and the Warrior guildmaster are indifferent to me, and its not good enough.
I've finally raised my faction enough to do the Lizardman Meat quest and after tons of tons of turn ins Clurg still does not like me well enough and the alliance line of spells do not work on him anymore. As much as I would like to do this quest for old times sake it just doesn't seem I am going to be able to. I've tried Ogre illusion and DE illusion both to no avail.

Hi All. Just trying this quest so my chanter could bake some more and as of today Frostbite is still broken. After reading many posts on other pages and such, I see that you must now cast identify on the Regurgitonic to see if it's bad or not. Guess I'll try that and go get a new one. That's a long run if it is so I would try it before you run all the way back to Frostbite in West Karana. Hope this helps everyone.
Mezmerado <Bonds of Honor> Level 38 Enchanter on Stromm
Lucy lists two steins (1HBlunt and normal). My guess (and I haven't read all the posts below - too many of them) is that the 1H Blunt version was an old reward for the quest and now the quest gives the non weapon version. This assumption is partly based on item numbers (6359 vs. 13380) and that I've not seen the 1HB version around.
I've been away from EQ entirely for two years, and I've got some knowledge gaps. Maybe you can help me with this one:
My Stein of Moggok matches the description above; it's primarily an INT item for me, not a weapon. But Magelo shows it as a 1HB weapon (6/28, which isn't great but not too bad). Are the new steins weapons? Was my stein a weapon two years ago and I don't remember it? And now it's not? What's up here?
I assume lvl 8 is because A Darkelf Enchanter can do this at 8. Id like to still think he/she would be agnostic. And still need to use "Alliance"
I hope this guy about 5 posts down is wrong, I hope they have not nerfed this. I now have a lvl 12 Highelf Enchanter, Agnostic. I have made several alt enchanters in my time, and stripped and remade them. With another Highelf Enchanter I did this whole quest, DarkElf form and all, but I forgot to cast alliance on the FINAL guy!!! I assume that would have raised him up one standing from indiferent or whatever to Aimiable. He basically thanked me for the book, and explained I should leave before I would be crushed.
I'd therefore assume an agnostic Darkelf would also have to cast alliance. If she chose whatever god Ogres are, she would not, but would suffer a lot as a chanty in her days. (if they can even pick that god)
So I am assuming the lvl and faction is all based on this one spell. I really do not want to wait untill 20 to get this (being Ogre Illusion)
So I hope they just did what I did, and frgot to cast and are mistaken.
just cast alliance on the last guy anyway, eventually you will get to where you can run the whole quest with NO spells except gate, grabbing sows or buying potions helps but isnt necessary, im doing it in 20-30 mins depending on fish drops (i gave up and used 2nd char to kill koalindls), im actually warmly to clurg. ran it as a chanter worshiping quellious, and even the bashers are dubious. did it about 15 times though.
i got this for my 2 wizzy which is my alt and i got ir for 200 pp on bertxxlous server.its not up to 1 K around 500 max and 100 lowest. it does good stats but not many stats mainly the INT.
2 wizzy <legions of pain> also 27 BST <legions of pain>
Does anyone please have information about the alternative version of the Stein of Moggok. According to the Lucy database -http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?entryid=62451 - the item went live in April but I have never heard another thing about it. The alternate stein has the same stats except it is also a 1HB weapon with combat effect of healing instead of 3 charges. please let me know. thanks
"God created man from a handful of dust, and he created woman from that man's rib. And these two together were so stupid that they weren't on the planet five minutes when they managed to get a curse put on all future generations. Nice work." Pat Condell
so... wait. I have never seen a procking item WITH charges. so does that mean it has 5 charges that will go off whenever in combat? Or does that mean it has that effect AND 5 charges? because some of the other items with that as a combat side effect are like lvl 60....
Because of a new patch, enchanter's illusion line of spells have been nerfed quite a bit. They can no longer change into a Dark Elf and have faction modifiers for anyone besides Dark Elves. To do this quest the easy way for an enchanter of the light you MUST have the level 20 Ogre illusion spell or the Ogres WILL kill you! I hate Verant for nerfing them so badly...*sigh*
WRONG! I have a Chanter, Erudite as a matter of fact, and he does this quest all the time. JUST casting DE illusion puts him at Apprehensive with Oggok Guards, whereas before casting, he is KoS.
Unfortunately Jadbalja, I don't believe this item is rechargeable. On the bright side, this quest is amazingly short to do, as long as you stock up on Kiola Nuts so you don't have to ride the boat every time.
I have been doing this quest with my Gnome enchanter for some time as a way to fund his trade skills. I went for another stein this evening and when I gave the regurgitonic to Frostbite he refused it telling me that he had no use for the item.
It's easier to camp in the Temple of Life in Qeynos, then make a human warrior and kill fish make sure there is a fish on corpse then camp log main and loot saves running around.
Not warrior, make yourself an ubar Shadowknight.... why? first off, faction. Second off, harm touch. So you dont have to level the stupid mule. I had to get to about 3, so the fish did not run off. he will run, running bad, shiney knight SQUASH you... I suppose you could make anything human that can start in Quenos, I chose SK for those reasons. now one HT and bam, fish parts.
But seriously, this quest has been messed up a LOT by bugs. I waited until 31 for my enchanter to get it because 1) I am cheap and wanted to quest it myself, and 2) I waited until they apparently fixed it for good before I wasted the compendium.
The only thing was I got past the Frostbite part but forgot to take off invis when I did the hand-in in Ogguk. The lovely bartender ate my compendium and didn't even ask for seconds. /sigh, those Ogres and their table manners.
Last time I did this it was mid May I believe. For a couple of years that this quest exists Frostbite was bugged-fixed-bugged again half of the time. Make sure Ur faction is OK with Barbies & redo regurgitonic part. Good luck.
Yeah, I remember back when there was only eq classic chanties were always paying me to whack out koa fish so they didn't lose faction just so they didn't have to worry bout that dog bug. Dunno why they didn't just make an sk, but 25pp sounded pretty good to a lvl9 magi back then! ACtually...sounds good to a 52 magi now....mmm...money...

-Well now I've got some advice for YOU little buddy! Before you point your finger you should know that I'M the man!
(Note: This is a dupe post from the Quest page...just in case someone reads one but not the other)
Okay, not so much a safety tip as a "Damn, now I have to do that all again" prevention tip.
I made level 12 tonight and decided to run the quest.
Made a trip to OOT and bought a dozen or so Kiola Nuts (Yes, I plan on doing this one several times) They were just over 1 gold each, and there was no price difference between Indifferent and Amiable faction. Illusion: Wood Elf
The Eruds Tonic was easiest of all of 'em. No negative faction hits, and a positive for EruditeCitizens or some such. less than a gold for the Kiss of Death. No Illusion, as I am an Erudite.
HoneyComb was probably the most annoying, since I couldn't find a bixie with one to save my life. I was using my ranger to track 'em. Finally managed to get enough, though. Also found what may be a bixie spawn point in E Commons and got lucky buying 6 off the vendor nearby. About a gold each. Illusion: Halfling and an Alliance (which probably wasn't needed)
The Fish: Chose the No Negative Faction method. Lotta running, but what the hell. A time saver for other who will be doing this repeatedly- After you get teh Regurgitonic and head back for W Karana, swing by Surefall on your way and get a new Nitrate. One less run next time. No cost. Illusion: Gnome for Regurgitonic and Illusion: Human with an Alliance for the Nitrates and Frostbite.
Handed them all in to the SeaFarer's Roost (Illusion: Human + Alliance. Probably necessary, but didn't feel like testing to find out)
Headed off to Ogguk. Illusion: Dark Elf works fine to get in. The Bartender is way the hell in the back of the zone. Don't forget to reapply Illuson if you aren't really a Dark Elf Here's that Tip I mentioned.... Alliance only works on one NPC at a time (I tested after the fact) First time out, I allianced him, then the bouncer...and didn't recheck him. He ate my book.
Second time, I just Allianced him...no problem, and my faction at turn in was Indifferent.
I think I can probably do the whole thing in under 30 minutes at this point...assuming I have the Honeycomb and Kiola Nut to start out with.
Total cost (even buying the honeycomb from Vendors): around 4 plat.

Can a high elf mage do this quest pretty well or would he have a difficult time doing it?
As far as I know, the only class that can pull this quest off is an Enchanter. Even with the new illusion potions, you'd still have to have good enough faction with the Orges to get them to work with you. Enchanters have spells to raise their faction, you don't.
It's not a bug. Occasionally you'll be given bad Regurgitonic by the zookeeper in Ak'Anon. You can have the 'Identify' spell cast on it to confirm that. Just destroy that one, get another, and try again.
A quicker way to get a koalindl fish is to make a human warrior and start them in Qeynos. Camp your main guy by the pond and load your warrior. Even at lev. 1 the warrior can kill the fish, once you see a corpse, load your main guy and loot the koalindl fish corpse.
This may be a dumb question...I keep seeing people talk about enchanters using the DE illusion for Clurg. Is there a problem using the Ogre illusion (if you are already high enough level to ast it)?

"It is good to have an end to journey towards, but it is the journey that matters in the end."
I play a high elf wizard on the test server (so everything bad that can happen, happens here first). I started following the directions (found on http://www.graffe.com) and guess what, half of the items are no drop. So I gathered the rest of the stuff, turned it in for the compendium, and it's no drop. How on earth is a wizard supposed to get one of the better items available for +int if they've nerfed the ability to pass anything onto an enchanter! While I'm not KOS to most of the Ogres, I am to the bouncers. I tried turning it in once already and ended up losing the compendium (you are an enemy to us, leave while you still can), and then getting my rear handed to me by one of the bouncers. I couldn't even gate fast enough. This is crazy. Any ideas anyone?
You get it by buying it from an enchanter. Unless you want to spend countless hours working on faction with many different races and cities.
They used to sell for around 200pp (on Terris Thule) in the pre-bazaar days. Now they're slightly more expensive.
The reason enchanters can do it and the rest of us can't is that they have not only racial illusion spells, but also the "alliance" spell which increases their faction with individual NPCs.
If you really don't want to spend the money for it, create an enchanter, level up to 8 or 12, depending on the race you choose, and do the quest yourself. That's exactly what I did when I was lower level. My little DE enchantress supported 2 accounts worth of toons doing this quest numerous times.

Can someone help me too? I am a level 9 Erudite Enchantress. I went to Kimble Nothrop (spelling?) and tried to get him to turn the nitrates into regurgatonic and he was a bit rude LOL So I cast Alliance and he gave it to me. Cast Alliance on Frostbite and he coughed up the fish. Cast Alliance in Rivervale and got the Honey Jum. Turned the ingrediants into the guy at the Seafarers and got the compendium. Put the compendium in the bank. Guess I got a bit greedy because I did it all again, tried to give the ingrediants to the guy and he gave me 2PP and no book.
Figured I'd give the book to Clurg. Invisible all the way through Ogguk, got into the bar, clicked on Clurg to cast Alliance, invisible went away - BAM! Guard knocked me down flat with one blow! Tried it again by using Illusion:Half Elf - BAM! on my butt again. Why does this site say that a level 8(9) Enchanter can do the quest when you don't even get to USE the Illusion:Dark Elf spell until level 12? And I haven't seen anyone mention using Illusion:Ogre, can this be done? What can I do as a level 9 Enchantress to get my stein?
Illusion: Ogre is a lvl 20 spell. Even at lvl 12, becoming a Dark Elf and casting Alliance is not a gaurantee that you will get the stein for the book, depending on your natural faction. However at lvl 20 you also get a better faction spell, so any enchanter can do this once they hit lvl 20.
A lvl 8 Dark Elf Enchanter can do this quest cause that is when we get Alliance, but the rest of us Enchanters have to wait till level 12 cause that is when we get Illusion Dark Elf.

Give Captain Rohand brandy, and LOTS of it. Man, that guy has a thirst that just won't quit. I am not sure of all the factions it increases, but I went from apprehensive to ally doing only this. I believe the good guards are on the same faction.

I would think killing gnolls just like the newbies do but I'm not sure if there is an easier way if your not KoS already you could try doing quests but that might take awhile and can be extremely boring, you should just go to Blackburrow and kill everything you can soon enough they'll like you.
Anyone got any tips or a guide for a Dark Elf mage to do this quest? Seems that you need to be enchanter for the easiest results. My bro has a 25 druid and he can make some newbies for the fish part, but what could I do about the rest? Can you do most of this invised?
? Last I checked, my druid could still talk to all the Ogres in Feerott (and presumably Ogguk, since those are mostly the same factions) while in wolf form. Wolf form only effects faction in Old-world zones IIRC, and has no effect (or a negative effect) on faction in any of the expansion zones. I don't know where you got your info about it being nerfed post-PoP, but it was not.
What I want to know is why my Bear Form spell doesn't fool ANYONE...not bears, not NPCs, not anyone, not anywhere.
I mean, it's like a bad joke..."A bear and a wolf walk into a bar, and the bartender says 'HEY, Shaman, keep your wolf pet outside', and the wolf says 'I'm not a wolf pet, I'm a Druid!'"
Sorry, but you are mistaken Zepherous. I did this quest easily with my Bard using the level 11 Song-Cinda's Charismatic Carillon that boost faction up with NPC's.
The part in Oggok can be done in Wolf form. You can either be a Druid (obviously) or recruit a friendly Druid to Wolf Form you inside Oggok itself. After you do this quest several times you'll be non-KOS in Oggok in your normal form. Even a Tunare-worshipping Wood Elf druid can walk the streets of Oggok safely (in elf form) after doing this quest a half-dozen times or so.
I have been doing the stein quest a lot recently and last week I tried to turn the regurgitonic into frostbite, but he said "I do not need that item" and gave it back to me. I tried again today with the PoP expansion hoping it was a bug and was fixed but no luck. Anyone have any ideas. BTW this is on the Tribunal server.
Update: My faction was a little screwed, but I fixed it to where I am now indifferent. Still no luck with Frostbite. Going to try to get my faction to kindly and see what happens.
I had a similar problem. No matter how many times I tried I just could not get Frostbite to take the regugatonic. i destroyed it, got the flask again, went to Ak'anon to get the regurgatonic, and when I came back, Frostbite took the regurgatonic. I've tried on and off for the last few patches, so I suspect it is the item itself that is bugged somehow.
I suggest getting the regurgatonic again, and try with a whole new item.
It's a bug that has been reported, seems to come and go. See the "Wolf Nerfed?" thread posted in May.
I haven't heard of it having anything to do with Barbarian faction before....have you done anything to FUBAR your Barb faction? I assume you're an Enchanter, and can therefore remedy any pesky faction issues with a spell.
If not, it's a bug and should be reported as such.
The steins are very plentiful in the Bazaar on the Drinal server. The price for them is about 150PP.
I did the quest yesterday with my 33 ranger and a friend who's a 30 magician. We got the compendium, and headed to Ogguk, where the ogres don't like us very much. I tried to give the compendium to the bartender, and his bouncer promptly aggroed me. I ran out of the bar, and got killed in the hallway. In the mean time, my mag friend, now safe from aggroing, gave his book to the bartender, and he said something about having guts to come here, and that was it. He kept both our books, and neither one of us got a stein (and I got killed to boot). The bottom line here is that if you don't have decent faction (I'd say indifferent or better) then you won't get the stein.
This occured recently on The 7th Hammer server. I was in The Bazaar and also on the Bazaar chat channel. Someone on the chat channel offered "WTB Stein of Moggok 350plat." I sent the person a tell and sold them the Stein off my Chanter
When I checked prices at The Bazaar, I found that there were no Steins for sale. Over the past two weeks I've checked prices several additional times and found either no Steins for sale or one Stein available with the lowest asking price being 400 plat. I don't spend much time on the Bazaar chat channel, so I can't report on what prices are there other than the one data point, but prices in The Bazaar zone, when available, appear to be considerably higher than pre-Bazaar.
Has anyone else noticed higher prices recently on this item?
I had a stroke of luck recently in Ak'Anon. I found this stein for sale at one of the clockwork merchants near the base of the ramp leading to the zoo/bank area. Obviously someone had sold it to the vendor, the price ....... 34 plat!!!.
Pity I'm a warrior, but I'm sure the cash will come in handy when I sell it :)
I've seen a lot about how a level 8 DE enchanter can do this quest. I'm about to start working on it with my DE enchanter.
My situation is unusual: I'm on Firiona Vie roleplaying server, where only one character is allowed per account. This makes my situation unusual.
Will I be able to buy Kiola nuts as a level 8 DE enchanter? I don't know any good races on this server, and it's complicated by the fact that I don't know their language so it's hard to ask for help. I'd like any thoughts you have about this before I make the trip over there.
I'm also concerned about turning in the honeycombs to Mitzy. My druid had some trouble with this part; hopefully my DE will be able to do it with illusion human or wood elf and alliance. Any thoughts about that?
i have a De chanter currently lvl 9 i started this quest when i hit 8 and have had no problems runnign this quest it takes about 6 to 8 hours roughly runnign it no ports and fairly good luck on the boats ther is no trouble buying any components or turning in them BTW i use the SFG nitrates to help get the fish to avoide horrable faction hits well needless to say i lvled my chanter to 9th just running this quest for my main who i was sellign the stines off for 150 to 200 plat a pop at a cost of 4 plat and a few hours running around not a bad turn around
yes you can buy kiola nuts from the merchants there. i have an de enc and hes done the quest before. but when your about to reach the docks you need to jump in the water as close as you can to shore illusion yourself in the water and get to shore. and you need to give mitzy 3 honeycomb and i think 30 gold. and if you forget about the gold you can just give it to her after.
Info for dark elves: if you have illusion human up you shouldn't have trouble with the ogre that's in the Seafarer's Roost before 6pm. Also you can buy kiola nuts in human form at Sister Island with no difficulty. Just be sure to jump early and swim to get in human form, since there's a sister on the docks.
Well, with EQ crashed for some unknown reason I thouhgt I'd drop in 2cp of info and blether:
My chanter (Diaspora) has now sold her 90th Stein of Moggok:
min price: 150 max price: 300 asking: 175-200 average: 191 std: 33.51
(yes I have kept a record of all sold, this does not include values of trades).
Now, with the skip broken in Erudin, I've been doing the quest less, and so there have been more requests for the stein. As a remedy, to all you other stein runners out there, I suggest using levitation to get to the boat instead of the skip. If you kilm the rocks across from the docks and dive-bomb the boat when it arrives you should be able to make it into/on the boat without having to wait for the second boat (you know what I'm talking about)
If you do choose to take the broken skip route, I suggest jumping onthe the boat before it comes to a stop. Have SoW, it helps.
I am not sure it works from 1-60, maybe 5 or 10-60. I remember on my Erudite Wizard when I tried to jump from the skip to the boat it switched around on me and I jumped AWAY from the boat and into the water. Kind of annoying, since I had to wait on the skip and miss the first boat to get on the second. So, I thought 'no big deal' and began to swim to shore, but I wasn't alone. A 'Diseased Shark' took a little nibble from me, and again, and again, and so on. I barely made it to shore, thanks to the nice druid that was there that gave me SLSteel, bless him =) So, unless they changed the diseased sharkie or that just RARELY happens, try to use levitate or wait on the skip for the next boat.
I was doing a profile for my mage and she has one of these so for melee i went to the list and saw that there were two steins of mogguk listed, I looked at both one was the one listed above the other was listed as a weapon with 6/28 and healing in combat not clicked,plus all the stats, did this change somewhere and if so can you trade in the old one ? Or is maglio mistaken on there being two stiens?

Advice is seldom welcome, and those who need it the most always like it the least.
Is this quest changed? I can't give frostbite the wolf the regurgitonic suddenly. I've done this quest a dozen times before and every time he gave me the fish for the tonic. But today, he just gives the tonic back every time saying 'I have no need for that.'
Faction doesn't seem to make a difference (I've tried it all different ways in different illusions.)
UPDATE: I had to destroy the 'tonic I had and get another in AkAnon before Frostbite would take it - looks like there is a chance you can get a bad 'tonic.
Yup. That happened to me the other day. I did an identify on the reguritonic and it came up as something like a "bad regurgitonic." It looks the same otherwise so without having the identify spell handy your only way to know is to try to hand it to Frostbite to see if the dog will take it.
Just destroy it and get another when you get a bad one.
you know.. there's no way to know for sure now.. but i'll tell you i had a similar experience just now. I gave frostbite the "tonic" and he hands it back. I'm like wtf.. i hand him the bottle again.. he hands it back.. then i'm sittin here thinkin.. cuz i'd just done the quest a few hours earlier (needed some cash) and i couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work this time. THEN i realize.. i wasn't handing him the regurgitonic... i was handing him the flask of nitrates. They look EXACTLY the same.. and after doing the quest several times in a row you can forget whether or not you've turned it in to the gnomer. Especially if you see an item that looks like it in your inventory. Anyway.. just thought that might explain it.
Is there a chance that someone had already given him the tonic recently? I mean, if u kill him he drops it, so i figure if you give him the tonic, you're getting the one he drops, which i would assume would leave him with an empty stomach.. I dunno.. never done the quest myself, but i think it would make sense.
Hmm...I never knew there was a wolf to get the fish from. You know, it is easy as hell to get the fish from the temple of life in qeynos, it drops almost everytime. I have an almost lvl 3 mule pally that is practically KoS to the temple now, but he's doing great on the Koalindl fishing)
Just my 2cp

Ok, I turned my stuff into Gregor with Illusion: Human, and alliance. First I turned the items in one at a time, he said something to the effect of "I hope you have the other items in your pack" for the first three items, and then for the forth he said "Thanks, it's not often people give me free merchandise": No book. Then I tried turning them in all together: no book. I swear I'm gonna charm that big ogre into ripping out Gregor's spine for me. Does anyone have any suggestions besides buying a stein in Gbay?
Sorry you're having problems. I've turned in the items to Gregor both ways (one at a time; all at once) and received the compendium every time. He cons indifferent to me, and I have on illusion:half elf. I don't use alliance on him. I haven't had a problem on Terris-Thule.
The only other thing I could see wrong, would be the fish corpse. Are you using the regurge tonic on that wolf in WK? I just have a 'mule' kill the fish by the temple of life in Qeynos. Then log back on with my chanter to loot the corpse it gives. That's the only other thing I could see you doing different from what I'm doing (if you are using the regurge tonic). Possibly the fish corpse you get from the wolf is no longer correct for this quest. Sorry if this doesn't help.
Just finished questing one of these with my enchanting ink blot, and the stein I received only has 3 charges on it. Obviously I didn't get this for the light healing, but I felt it bore mentioning. Anyone start with a different amount of charges?
One more item of note: There were a couple barbarians and an ogre in the Seafarer's Roost that conned threatening to me, even with half-elf illusion and alliance cast. They left after a while, so if you're a dark elf enchanter (I worship Innoruuk too), patience is definitely a virtue .
Ok So Update. I started this Quest. So far the nuts were easy to get, im just BLIND. There was a merchant in the hut, just as you come in the the left... not at the counter. I bought a lot of his nuts. I have to say seriously the biggest pain was the stupid honey combs. I remember when Misty thicket was over run with Bixies. I could not even BUY the honeycombs from vendors anywhere...
(when i get home, i'll post the tower the bixies spawn at) - but when you leave Rivervale if you take a right, And follow the zone wall (around the 90 degree turn) to "The wall" The second tower in (i think thats the one) 2 bixies spawn there. a Drone and a regular bixie. Eventually even a BIXIE QUEEN. She was green to me at 12 but her spells DID hit. A sort of Fireburst and a blindness spell that actually lasted a long time.
So then (I doubt there is an EASY way to work this in..for quick questing, but I get my honey comb. I play it safe and gave the jumjum girl 30 gold not 3pp.
Then I gate out and start my run to Qeynos. The most annoying thing? I am running through Kithikor, durring the day, all is happy. I cant turn around without a bixie on me, spawning, dying, flying. Its like a damn bixie SWARM. AND I buy 6 honey combs from the Ranger vendors. I kill a few and honeycomb is all over. So if you can come HERE in some round about way to get the honeycombs, or just zone out of Misty thicket one more and hunt them, they are mostly all over the West commons entrance and the Highhold entrance. I mean everywhere. JUST FYI. because it was honey madness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a lvl 8 DE Necro. who could also use one. is faction about the same as a lvl 8 DE enchanter? Because I could get a few of these for alts... and or selling. I think its lame things like centaurs dont have a faction hit, but a fish does....
Some post talked about making a dog cough up the Fish? isn't that a better and SURE way to get the fish? and no nasty faction hit?
*** I also have an enchantress. and shes 12. with bind. Ill just bind myself (with both toons) close to.. but not in danger of.... and see how this goes, questing for this tonight I think. ***
I've read that its easiest for enchanters to do this quest, but was wondering how it would be for a level 19 Vah Shir Beastlord to complete. Supposedly there's no racial tensions with any other races (although almost no npcs in Shadow Haven will talk to me, especially the @#!$! Beastlord trainer there!), so hopefully we aren't KOS at any of these places.
the Vah Shir have no prejudice against other races.. but some races are quite intolerant of others.. regardless of how you feel about them. Ogres, Dark elves, Trolls and Iksar won't let you just wander around thier towns.
I have a Vah Shir warrior I brought here to hit Guk.. I was really dissapointed when I saw the ogre guards are at scowl. I was under the impression that Vah Shir have no racial tensions as well, especially since my friend is an Iksar SK and he can walk around in Shar Vahl with no problem. Not sure on other races but I know personally that the ogres won't let my Vah Shir in Ogguk!
#Mircy,
Posted:Mar 19 2002 at 12:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a Crystalized Shadow Schimitar for trade....I believe blade goes for about 200pp. Give Mircy a tell.
Here is my method of doing the Stein of Moggok quest. I am a human enchanter who started doing this quest at lvl 16, and have now done it more than 20 times at lvl 20 :)
First, Bind at EFP Docks. Go to OOT for the kiola nuts, gate back to dock.
Then run to tunnel, get a SOW in exchange for breeze (easy trade to get at anytime if you ask)
Go to Misty Thicket & either hunt bixies to collect 3 honeycombs or buy them (I bought 6, ready for next run)
Take them to Kizzie Mintopp in the Herb Jar to the right of the Fool's Gold and give her 30gp (NOT 3pp) and the 3 honeycombs, get the lore honey jum drink.
Then run to qeynos. Here I have a mule lvl 3 SK, bound at the the lake in the Temple of Life, so it doesnt matter how bad the faction gets, if he gets killed, he respawns in the right place. This one is on a separate account, so I cast enduring breath, and off he goes to kill the Koalindl Fish (LORE Item). I also have enduring breath on so wait around till I get a fish corpse.
Then go to Erudin and go to the Hawk's Inn, buy one Innoruk's Kiss of Death (LORE ITEM). (Although you can BUY more than one, you loose any surplus when you do anything with it, so dont waste money.) Go to the top floor of the library and give the Drink to Sinnkin Highbrow, the bookworm. She'll give you the Erud's Tonic (no drop lore item) in exchange.
Gate back to EFP Dock, and stand IN FRONT of Bartender Gregor, give him the Erud's Tonic, the Koalindi Fish corpse, the kiola nut and the honey jum (all 4 items at once), he will then give you the bartender's compendium.
Next, run to EC tunnel, get another SOW for breeze, run through Inothule swamp. run to Feerott. At zone entrance , cast illusion DE AND invis, run to Ogguk.
Zone, re cast Illusion AND invis. Run to Clurg, (LOC of P200 N230 in the bar, number 17 on the Ogguk map at eqmaps) keep illusion, but drop invis, cast Alliance on Clurg. (DO NOT miss this bit out like I did first time, he will give you nothing back) con him, make sure you are amiable or better, give hi the bartender's compendium, get the stein, and gate the hell outa there. After this many quests, I am now welcomed warmly by Clurg WITHOUT alliance.
Sell Stein, and start again. Time for quest about 1.5 hours. Porting will reduce this to as little as 30 mins if you keep a supply of nuts & honeycombs in the bank.
I will auction a start price of 225pp, but accept anything over 200 if they talk nicely to me.
This is a great post, Djakel. Thank you very much. I just completed this quest for the first time with my level 18 enchanter. I have the following comments:
1. I don't think it's possible to kill the Koalindl fish without dying. The guards are extremely protective. Even though I was far away as possible from guards, the moment I rooted the fish, it began calling for help. Then I DOT'ed it. Fortunately, I was able to loot it before being killed myself. Moral of story: I should've used a mule! 2. Even after casting Alliance on Clurg in Oggok, he still con'd indifferent to me. The trade was still successful, though. I had illusion Dark Elf on, of course. 3. The full name of the bar in Erudin is Blue Hawk.
The quest took me about 4.5 hours without any SoW and with that one death (20 minute delay to get rez) and I followed the recipe exactly. Thanks again, Djakel. That's what I call a 5 star post!
Your the bomb. this is a great post. I think the only thing I would change is this. I think the FIRST time I do the quest, when I have the compendum, I think I will bind myself just outside or just inside Ogguk becore turning the stuff in. Simply because many people have various results. And many people Die. I think before my first faction change I will bind just outside Ogguk because the corpse run would not be fun. If I die Ill be right there, with my items.
Is there a negative Faction hit at all?
ummmm This is a really crazy question, but could you not just cast a DOT on the Fish, and before it dies, cast memory blur? Would that leave a body? Like as though the DOT killed the fish? Im trying to find another way to kill the fish, but if 1000's of other people make mules, they cant all be wrong.
I will just have my girlfriend make a nasty little SK fish killer. :)~
It is Important while doing this quest to have the correct illusions up AND alliance each NPC.
To get the Kiola Nut go to Ocean Of Tears (take the boat from freeport OOT is the first stop) Buy it from one of the elf vendors there. Should cost about 2gp.
To get Erud's Tonic you must first buy Innoruks Kiss of Death drink at Hawk's Inn near library in eruidan. Then give it to Sinnakin Highbrow. (she is at the top level of the library)
To get the Honey Jam go to Misty Thicket. Get 3 honeycombs (drops off bixies) and give them and 3pp to Kizzie Mintopp. (in rivervale)
The Koalindl fish is the most difficult item to get on this quest. You can either lose faction and chance of life in qeynos hunting the fish under the temple of life OR do this sub-quest which results in NO faction hits.
Go to Surefall Glade and find Gerael Woodone. Hail him and agree to deliver his Flask of Nitrates. Then go to Ak'anon and give this flask to Kimble Nogflop in the zoo. (he's hiding under one of the nature scenes). He will give you Regurgitonic. Next head to WK and find frostbite at the barbarian village. Give frostbite the Regurgitonic. He will give you the Koalindl Fish!
Give the Kiola Nut, Erud's Tonic, Honey Jam, Koalindl Fish to Gregor Nasin at the searoost bar in the east freeport docks. You will recieve bartender's compendium from gregor. Give it to Clurg in Oggok.
Doing this quest the way I just described results in faction increases in MANY races and only a minor faction hit. Enjoy.
you must give kizzie 30 _g_p. she won't take plat.
If you're an enchanter, i've found that the only way to get the flask from gerael is to cast illusion:woodie, and then alliance the mo'fo'. if that doesn't work you'll need to raise faction or make an SK mule to do your durty work.
when handing stuff into clurg, it is best to be an inkie, or have illusion: inkie up. and be invisible. otherwise there's a chance that the ogres will be on synchronised PMS and will leave you as a pasty spot on the floor, instead of giving you your hard-earned stein.
i managed to get sow'd at the beginning of my journey, and to collect the ingrediants has taken me about 2.5 hrs(i worked out of wc, got ports from there, but i used the sk mule route instead of the regurgitonic.)
ACtually I've done this quest countless times...wel, maybe more like 15. But anyway, I've never given Kizzie gp....3pp works everytime for me...didn't even know this was an issue
I am a Chanter on the Solusek Ro server. Following the advice here and elsewhere I have started running this quest to finance the rest of the gear on my wish list. I usually try to keep one on me and if not I could probably get you one within a couple hours.
So if any of you non-chanters on Solusek Ro need a Stein, please send a tell in-game to Schill or an email to Chill@allakhazam.com and I will be happy to hook you up with one.
Well, ANY and i mean ANY enchanter can do this quest, even those who worship dark (or light) gods, though im not exactly sure about DE's. well im a gnome enchanter, worshiping brell, and in DE illusion, im dubios to DE guards. Never tryed ogres, being to low to try.
Hiho, vallon zek server here. Just wanted to say that if you're a DE and you do this quest make sure you get off the boat before it docks so you can cast illusion in Erudin without the guards seeing you. Also remember there are guards in Freeport so when you bind there be sure you are out of the way. It's easier to do the quest as a lighty. BTW you HAVE to cast alliance. I didnt know this the first time and did the entire quest for naught. Did it agian though and I'm very happy. Cirenity 14th season chanter myth and magic
It is VERY difficult or impossible for any good race to do this quest unless you are an enchanter (or some other class that can assume an illusion that ogres will not kill on sight). I know of no way you can multi-quest it with an enchanter. You will need amiable faction with Clurg, the bartender. And you will need to not be KOS to the guards, because there is one standing right next to Clurg.
There are a few ways to gain faction with Clurg and the guards. Check this site for quests that you can do. But, believe me, it takes a lot of time and effort to raise faction enough to make this happen. You would probably be better off to save up your money and buy a stein from someone who can get it more easily.
I speak as someone who has done this quest about 40 times with my enchanter. I am in the process of trying to get my 24 Druid's faction good enough to do the quest as well (just for the heck of it and to see how difficult it will be). He has wolf form as a solution to getting along with the guards. But Clurg still won't deal with him, even after killing MANY lizard men and turning in their tails. Indifferent faction will not do the trick. It requires amiable.
Verant has made it very tough for good races to get themselves accepted in Oggok. Sad, but it is a fact of the game.
Posted:Dec 30 2001 at 1:57 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) hehe you'll need an enchanter with the illusion TROLL..you dont if you have an DEF Enchanter tho...
The other day I came across a good deal for this for about 100pp...I gladly bought it and gave it to my necro.I thought,wow,I see so many ppl with this,it must rule!So i go and test it and I lvl him up until hes lvl 10,and I say "Man this is gettin boring,ill go sell dis."
So if anyone wants to buy this baby,send me a tell on the Rallos Zek server,names Kyenden :-) (BTW,I'm currently selling it for 250pp,ill probably lower it to 200 though)
As you say it is illusionist only now due to factions. The price varies alot depending which server you are on. On Luclin they go for 150pp, i doubt you will get one for under 100, easier to make an illusionist, get him to lev 12, and do the quest yourself )
