Loc of Mob Spawn who drops this
# Feb 23 2022 at 7:20 AM Rating: Decent
This is dropped by A Giant Beetle. One spawns every 6 minutes 30 seconds in West Karana at coords -1142, -3730. Drop rate probably around 10 %.
Found another one pathing at -1311, -11279.
Found another pathing at -2061, -10509

It will also drop from Queen Kliknik, but you have to kill her place holders Prince Kliknik and Princess Kliknik until she spawns. They spawn every 6 minutes 30 seconds at that well behind the false wall to the right of the entrance of North Qeynos. When Queen Kliknik finally spawns drop rate is probably closer to 50%.

Its a hell of a long grind to get enough of these for spell research. I'm amazed these don't sell for 100000 plat.

They don't stack. The only easy day was yesterday.

Giant Fire Beetle Does Exist
# Feb 17 2009 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
I killed a Giant Fire Beetle yesterday in Commonlands. I believe it is a rare spawn. It spawned near the SW corner of the zone after most or all of the giant spiders were killed. It appears that the giant spiders also spawn in this area so perhaps they are placeholders for the Beetle.

There's often a giant fire beetle in Toxxulia Forest wandering the area between the Nexus spires and the entrance to Paineel, I'd usually see it while running to Barren Coast.

Forget these for research
# Jun 18 2007 at 10:10 AM Rating: Decent
As posted earlier they DO NOT drop in Unrest. I have not found any giant fire beetles in the Commonlands nor in Toxxulia Forest in a long time and so unless proven otherwise believe they are no longer in those zones. I have killed queen Kliknic in NQ at least 15 times and she has not dropped the giant eye once and I presume the same would be true of the queen in Kithicor Forest. The giant fire beetles in West Karana are far and few between; in two hours I tracked 10 and only got two eyes. Thus as far as creating practice runes to increase spell research casters are effectively stopped at level 142. To get beyond 142 you will have to group to find the spells (since they are in zones higher than you will be able to handle unless you are starting your research late in life) or you can just make money or have a rich alt and buy the needed spells in the baz. That is unless someone knows of another place that mobs drop the giant fire beetle eyes.
wrong with unrest

I just pbae the whole zone and none the death beetles droped any giant fire beetle eyes. They did drop alot scarabs parts not beetle parts so no matter how many you kill no giant fire beetle eye will drop for you just alot of scarab parts

Many many many months ago, I found a recipe for these Giant Fire Beetle Eyes. Of course, way back then, the only mob that dropped them was the Queen Klicknik.
Its used for Training Runes for Spell Research.

Master Rune (beza)
Components: Pearl, Giant Fire Beetle Eye, Any Fine Steel Slashing Weapon, parchment and quill

Combine in : Concordance of Research

Master Rune (azia), and Master Rune (beza) trivial 145<x<=170

combined in the box associated with your caster class: phantasmal tome, arch magus grimoire, warlock's book of binding, sorcerer's lexicon

information taken from eq.castersrealm.com and eqtraders.com

i havent verified the "ANY" fine steel weapon part though. with the other training runes that used raw-hide leather i did find out that the leather items that didnt work for one level of rune, were used for another level of rune.

Light
# Sep 08 2003 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
Yes it is a light source as everyone says, but it's a crappy one. It makes everything around you all orange and red looking. Lightstones and greater lightstones are tons better; they are very bright and they also don't make everything red-orange colored.

It never gave a bar of silver. It used to have a single charge of enchant silver.

It seems obvious it IS a light source. but does anyone know if it gives off MORE light? Id think so. I mean then a regular fire beetle eye. Similar to a LIGHTSTONE vs a GREATER LIGHTSTONE. Hense my inquiry.

the lantern may weight more. but you can bash with it, or most classes can. I think monks can...

This eye is obviously not only dropped by giant fire beetles.
Also, is this a light source?
