The Nightmarewood Bow

A dark knight did arrive in
the City of New Tanaan from
the Plane of Nightmares. His
face was shrouded by shadows
and I could not from which
race he hailed, though he
appeared to be of human build
his voice had the raspy slur
of a goblin. The moment the
knight stepped into my shop
I noticed the strange bow he
carried. After some brief
persuading and a declined
offer of refreshments, the
knight agreed to tell me the
origin of the bow.
The bow he said was crafted
by his very hands with the
assistance of some former
companions. The staff is
shaped with a planing tool
from the wood of the living

trees in the forests of the
plane of Nightmares. The bow
is strung with a string sewn
by a skilled tailor from two
silks of the giant arachnids
of Nightmare and coated with
wax for durability. The two
cams that were fastened to
the ends of the shaft bore
the marks of gnomish craft-
manship. The knight confirmed
that the cams were crafted by
a gnomish necromancer ally
who is a skilled tinkerer. He
used some bolts and gears
obtained from the clockworks
of the Plane of Innovation
and the cams are greased with
clockwork grease gathered in
Innovation. I was warned that
the grease is corrosive to
many substances and must be
stored in a small clay jar
before the tinker can apply

it during the crafting of the
cams.

The Bows of Power

In my stay in the City of
New Tanaan I have heard
tales of countless wonders
and secrets of the planes.
None have inspired me more
than the tales I have heard of
the bows of power, crafted
and wielded by the most
legendary of archers from
times and places mostly
forgotten in modern times.
The bows I speak of are the
bow of Raltor Yalvon crafted
from obsidianwood, the string
crafted from the guts of
fiends, the bolts and gears
of the cams smithed and filed
from molten ore and
assembled and greased by a

skilled tinker in New Tanaan.
The bow of Ulmoth, the
Slarghilug hero, crafted from
primordial driftwood, the
string crafted from strands
of slarghilug kelp, the bolts
and gears of the cams smithed
and filed from e'cian ice and
assembled and greased by a
skilled tinker in New Tanaan.
The bow of Ier'Shon, the
legendary mephit archer,
crafted from featherwood. The
string crafted from the silk
of the spiders that spin
their webs across the Plane
of Air. The bolts and gears
of the cams smithed and filed
from wind metal and assembled
and greased by a skilled
tinker in New Tanaan.
The bow of Golgar, ogre
survivor of the Plane of
Earth, crafted from the wood

of the petrified arboreans,
the string crafted from
vegerog vines, the bolts and
gears smithed and filed from
pristine planar steel and
assembled and greased by a
skilled tinker in New Tanaan.

These are the bows of which
I have heard tales. I wonder
how many other bows have
been or are waiting to be
crafted from the exotic
materials of the planes.
