My guild killed Nortlav the Scalekeeper in "The Hole" and looted a red scale for one of our bards. She already had the white scale I think. Anyhow, what I heard from my fellow Nortlav killers was that he was RUMORED to drop the white scale VERY RARELY. The point I am trying to make is that you should not consider Nortlav as a source of white scales.
By the way, Nortlav is a total ******* to defeat in combat. But, he is definitely killable with the right groups and levels.

I would much rather see someone get their epic. I seriously doubt that you "missed out on several epic pieces because others wanted them to sell" since there aren't that many jerks like you out there. Sure it wasn't the other way around? This cloak isn't even that great, check out the astral cloak of the titans, its not even that hard to get.

Actually there are 2 mobs now that drop the white scale, one is still Vox the other is Gore down in the Dreadlands in Kunark. Vox is the easier of the 2 from what I hear.
As for all the flames I have read about other classes asking to roll on epic items. The way it should be run all those that can used the scale (or any item for their epic) should be the only ones to roll for it, highest levels dominate. If their are 2 50th levels there and 15 49th and under, let the 2 50th levels roll on it. They are closer to getting their epics than the 49th and unders are. If no one can use it then it falls to a general roll.

the 2 level 50's are closer to epic than the 17 49's??? That is the most absurd thing Ive read in a while. The fact of the matter is, a lot of players dont start epics as soon as they can. I for one did, and at level 49 I was 5 drops away, and at 51 I was 3 drops away. I am closer than most level 55+ I talk to in raids, only because I work on it constantly. I have the same amount of playing time as they do, but am 5 levels lower because I am raiding all of the time, not exp'ing.

I could give 2 you know whats about a players lvl when it comes to rolls. Those are the stupidest rules for looting around IMO. Those 17 49's put in just as much risk and effort as the 2 50+ right? If you can either use an item to quest an item you can use, or if any of the drops are equipable then they should be rolled on by all those who can, not my fault the higher guys were either unlucky on their rolls or they waited till the last minute. And before you flame i have lost out on many a nice items to lower lvl peeps and congradulated them every time.

Gore dropped this the other day my guild took her down, melee classes dont like fighting her because her fear is pretty sick and her slow is even sicket but she only lasts about 15 seconds even with Cheal. Very easy mob to kill IMO. The bracer doesnt totally suck and she also drops lvl 60 spellz which is why we will be killing her more often.
Three mobs now. Nortlav the Scalekeeper in the hole drops it now.

Get yourself in a group of 6 and Necros although valuable for ther pet and darkness do not compare to the skill of a bard. We charm and a charmed pet of 55 lev will rip your pet a new bone, We mezz letting you run away so that you dont die from the uber mob which is ripping off your new bone, we speed to help those others get in a few more whacks, we clarity so that your not oom when the train rolls in, and best of all for Vox raid we add a 120 magic 80 cold resist that she cant debuff, so who is useless on this raid the bard that helps things get moving and stops his party from getting blasted for over 100 dmg, or the necro who is getting resisted and whos pet is has just been killed.
Know what's funny? When that charm breaks on that highly resistant level 55 mob and he starts stomping on you and you try to run away with Selo's song of travel.... but..... oh yeah. He's level 55 and summons you and beats on you some more. I am not sure even many level 60 bards have the balls to try to charm even a weak level 55 (like Doom). Hate to see the resist rate on that. Please don't get into 'my pet is bigger than your pet' pissing contests. In that exact senerio, you would most likely get owned really hard. After turning on you and ripping your head off, it would promptly eat the necro as well.

I have to agree with that. Run as fast as you want, porting is going to out run you. Bards are great don't get me wrong, but it's like comparing a race car driving from point A to point B, versus snapping your fingers and being there. And don't forget waiting for boats. ;)

well I didn't plan on posting on this thread, but upon reading this, I changed my mind. At this point i'm not sure which way I'd go with the "who should get loot rights to the scale" comments, but (unless I've misunderstood what your point was) I'd say you've contridicted yourself. You say you don't like the solo artist who thinks they're (notice the correct spelling) the bomb but go on and on about how great the bard class is (which personally I like bards and have thought many times about making one). A successful raid is one that is made up with a balanced raiding party. No one class is more important than the others. Given a chance, I probably would roll for that dragon scale and complete the quest if I won. I also wouldn't lose sleep if I wasn't able to roll on it (which just happened recently on a Vox raid I attended). There are plenty of things that I will never see in this game, one of which is my epic. The thing that struck me most about the Vox raid last week was how it was organized (btw Thanks EH for sponsoring that on the Tribunal server). The raid was well organized and well planned. The whole reason the raid happened was so that the person who organized it got a piece to his epic. It was known going into the raid that that ONE item was spoken for by the man who put the time and effort into organizing and planning the raid. Everyone was fine with that. If you want that peice, my suggestion would be to do the same. Put together your own raid and make it known That that if the scale drops it is spoken for. If ppl don't like those rules, well...they don't have to go to YOUR raid. I thought that was an incredibly fair way to run things.

Man i tell you as a chanter on a vox/naggy raid ... i love the bard ... 3 bards for naggy ..buffing done in 40 min camped ...back in naggy dead in 60 secs ....1 bard for Vox buffing 1 1/2 hours camped ...back in ...raid failed ...Dont get wrong ..it failed due to a bad bug ...GM even said so ... but had we bards in a few more slots with resist songs ...mana songs... melee buffs ...you know those things they sing that keep the casters in mana and the tanks fighting hard .. it might have been different

saw a raid that didnt drop scale, but had a good plan in the event it did drop... pure casters would roll /random 500 on dragon scale, and bards would roll /random 500 + level of bard. everyone gets chance at it, and the class requiring it for epic gets a slightly better chance. everyone was happy as they could be, considering bards vs casters on the scale loot is a touchy issue. by the way... why is everyone so concerned about whether or not the jewelry is enchanted or not? who cares, you're never gonna see a dragon scale anyways, unless you never reach level 53 intentionally, and raid vox weekly, and do so for about 3 or 4 years, just to get you like 1 in 5 odds at that point of getting one... just a dose of reality.

first, seen 10 vox raids myself, no white dragon scale. second, friend has been on 30 succesful vox raids in a year and a half with 3 different characters... still no white dragon scale... no scale meaining none have dropped. i dont care if it is bard epic, how many mages do you see getting exclusive rights to quillmane's cloak in sk... everyone that can kill quillmane does, loots, then brags about it, and its no drop even, so bards, suck it up and take it like a big person. i guarantee if these ever became less rare, raid leaders would find themselves raidless after just once trying to say bard got scale by default... all the enchanters, wizzies, mages, and necros would bid ado to vox, even if they still had loot chance at tobrins eye patch (which i have...). try running a vox raid without enchanters... impossible, and what about all the nukers that come in at 40 to 60% health... she'll complete heal if you dont have 500 to 1000hp per person, times 6 in group, every 5 to 12 seconds... and there goes your raid, and no one, bards included, get a dragon scale if she doesnt die, btw, what exactly do bards bring to a vox raid???

Well Mr. "more than one place to produce this scale" Lemme tell ya what. Yah there are two mobs that drop white scales. Vox and Gorenaire. Well, Vox is hard to find people in that range willing to go to permafrost. Verant needs to put a damn port near that area. Second-Gorenaire. Unbelievably hard dragon. You've obviously never fought her or you wouldn't be so know-it-all.

There is a port it is from the fire pits in TD. Granted, if Fayd is up, you will have to wait. The "brown box" on the south wall will take you to Halas. As a necro, who would gladly eat bard flame for this cloak, i use the fire pots for most of my travel.
I am bound at the dock in oasis, DMF, Jboots, zone in on raft and run to portal. i am almost a druid =)

Actually, the white dragonscale also drops off whoever the Scalekeeper in The Hole, along with a red dragonscale...but he supposedly can take 6 groups without breaking a sweat...:)
