Besides being Ultra rare as everyone is saying isnt the focus a bit retarded except for being a twink item?
Per Allahkazam the Improved Damage I Description:
1: Increases spell effectiveness up to 20%
2: Restriction: Spells level 20 and lower
3: Restriction: Only applies to 'Hit Points (HP)' spells
4: Restriction: Affects 'Instant' spells only
5: Restriction: 'Detrimental' spells only
6: Restriction: 'Location Based AoE' spells excluded
7: Restriction: 'Point Blank AoE' spells excluded
8: Restriction: 'Target Based AoE' spells excluded
9: Restriction: 'Giants' spells excluded
10: Restriction: 'Dragons' spells excluded

From what I understand the focus only affects spells that are under level 20, yet this drops off a level 30 mob and would be useless for non-spell casting classes such as Warriors.

I camp this room while im at work. You only play for 1 min every 24. Took 5 hours to get my last cloak. Thats why this cloak should cost more than the spider fur cloak, its hard to get.
argh!!

First time in Perma I was helping a friend camp the Preacher (he wanted to get the Circlet as a present for his shammy friend). Checked my tracking for the nth time and spotted the alchemist. I'd just been on here checking out the info on zone and knew this dropped so <zoom> off we go, kill the alchemist and voila... cloak drops first time. I'm either going to give it to a shaman friend as a Christmas Present or if they don't want it will sell for exubitant cash-ola

First of all, shouldn't Rare spawn + Rare Drop = Very Rare item or something. After spending more than 25+ hours at this camp, some of them in 7 and 8 hour stretches, i got a total of 7 spawns; 6 leggins and 1 cloak.

Getting to this area will be a problem for you solo. I wouldn't try to solo this camp. Instead, my suggestion is to try the Dire Wolf CLoak quest in Iceclad Ocean. Start by hunting Wooly Mammoths nearby in Everfrost and collect 2 mammoth meats. Then head to Everfrost and hunt Dire Wolves for the pelt. While you're there solo some snow cougars for great experience (up to almost lvl 40) and try to loot some Cougar Claw earrings.

Dire wolves and snow cougars are in East Wastes, on Velious. Snow cougars are also found in Iceclad and dire wolves of various sorts are found in Iceclad and Great Divide.

Is the Mammoth meat from Mammoths in Everfrost the same as that found off Wooly Mammoths in EW?

After getting the Runed Circle from 1st spawn of the Goblin Preacher, I decided to come back few days after and try to get the Cloak from the Alchemist. Here I am ready to spend 7 hrs to get the cloak. He was the 4th spawn, the rate of PH spawn was 25 minutes at one point and 45 minutes at another. The first thing he dropped was the Cloak! My total wait was a bit above 2 hrs.

Best of luck for the rest of you after the cloak.

We hung out in the area looking actually for the wizard (seemed like a pretty slow spawn) and we nailed at least 4 of these guys within 2 hours. Legs, legs, legs and one cloak, none of which I won a roll for. ;-(
2 hours is all I waited!

After 2 hours of camping the spot, the Alchemist popped up twice. The first time, the Leggings, the second time the Cloak. I consider myself very lucky.

Just a quick FYI for those interested in difficulty level of this MOB.
Popped in after the patch last week, the Alchemist popped within 10 minutes. My pet engaged him, I cast Winter's Roar 3 times for about 220 dmg avg each cast. Alchemist drops cloak, less then 10 minutes later. My level was 36 at the time so I expected to be able to get out safely. Not much damage was done to me, courtesy of my faithful pooch. I had popped in from time to time to check with 'campers', avg camp time was about 4 hours and no one had acquired the cloak.

I just got very lucky.

Camped Alchy last night on Tunare server trying to get cloak for friend. Permafrost virtually empty - thanks Kunark & Velious. 2 hours camp time: Alchy (legs), PH, PH, skip, PH, Alchy (cloak). Approx 20-22 minute spawn time. Logged for the night, still in the room. Logged back in today at lunch & there is un-camped Alchy & friend. Dropped both & he had another cloak on him. Not a bad welcome back to the game...
Spawning

I consider myself lucky that I only waited 3 Hrs.
The Alchy side spawned almost exactly every 25 min. He was every 3rd spawn untill he spawned after only one place holder. It was then he dropped the cloak, don't know if that had anything to do with it. The other side of the room spawned 3 times while I was there: 1.5 hrs for the second spawn but only 43 min. for the 3rd.
I had gotten in just as Two people were leaving( more luck), they had been there 2 hrs. w/o getting the cloak...

I'd never been to perma before, and as a level 26 barb sham I figured why not go with some guildies that were already en route.. I knew the way, because I'd gotten my past 2 levels soloing mammoths, and wandering around had found the safe entrance. I zoned in, and after buffing myself followed my guildies to the alch. He was up as soon as we got there, and the 3 shams including me nuked the hell out of him.. Dropped the cloak, and I won roll, in and out of perma in 5 minutes with this awesome cloak!

i camp the alch for 3 days frist day for 4 hours secound day for 12 and the third day for 4 hours and i got 12 legs and one cloak. and the cloak was on the last spawn, so in 3 days i camped this mo fo for 20 hours its sad what a lvl 40 druid will do for a 4wis cloak

Hehe Reading this reminds me of my camping exp with the Alch. My druid began solo camping at 34, then 35, and finished at 36. (No, I wasn't getting any real exp at the camp, I would leave and come back in a few days generally). Each of the three times was for ruffly 5-6.5 hours. Spent total of around 17 hours, got my cloak finally and left. My druid was very proud of this cloak, unfortunately still wearing at 55, hehe.

Well it took 17 hours of camping this past Sunday, and just as I was about to camp after wasting an entire day I got my cloak. I was pretty upset over this camp as I waited for almost 10 hours before I even seen the Alchemist spawn. Even when he did start spawning all he dropped was those worthless leggings. I ended up going around killing most of the other rares, Preacher, Scryer, and Archelogist just to try and keep active. Every time I did I would get their rare drop so I kept thinking I would get the cloak if only he would spawn, Wrong! It took 7 spawns this time to finially get a lucky drop. Thank Karana I decided to wait till he spawned one last time before camping. This has got to rank pretty high as one of the worst camps in Norrath. The cloak is nice and all and the mob is a relatively easy kill, but the ungodly spawn rate just kills ya.

Aye, some of those Guk camps really stink! I have camped the Ass/Supp room in dead side for endless hours. I saw the Supplier pop ONCE and he dropped a bag, not the Thick Banded Belt.

I spent a Saturday morning and afternoon camping the cloak. After 5 hours, 6 pairs of the legs and no cloak I met up with friends to camp the Runed Circlet and the Archeologist pack. After we took out the Priest and the Archeologist we swung back by my old friend the Alchemist, he was up, we killed him, he dropped the Cloak.

In all this camp was embarrassingly easy.
Here is my sad story
# Mar 31 2001 at 8:22 AM Rating: Default
Okay, I have been camping this Alchemist guy for the past 3 days, 12 hours at a time. So far I had 12 pair of Leggings to show for it, but no cloak. Totally determined to get the cloak on the 4th day I log in, and my hard drive crashed. I had a spare hard drive in an old computer that I took out, installed back into my computer, installed all my EQ stuff, logged back in. There was someone in the Zone, so I checked to see what he was camping. He said he was leaving, because he just got the Mammoth Hide cloak about 4 minutes before I sent him a tell. BAH! Either I am the unluckiest man alive or I am not ment to get the cloak for some reason. Now I am back to sitting in the Alchemist room, waiting for my cloak. I am losing my mind.

Hi ya,

this camp is, like the man before wrote, ugly and only good for playing gem (another awful verant game ... lol)
Plan to sit more than 10+ hours for a sack full of useless leggings ...

#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 27 2001 at 12:39 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Camped this on Saturday as a level 30 shammie. This is a very easy camp, but very long and boring. There is a two spawn that is right past the first gate on the left. It is in a room behind a rock. If you are a Barbarian like myself you have to shrink to get in there. I needed another person to break the room up at level 30. The alchemist is a rare spawn and you normally have to kill place holder for him to spawn. The room consists normally of a caster of some sort and a regular ice goblin. The tactic I used was to invis all the way to the door. I buffed with all resists and normal strength etc. Saturday I broke the spawn with a guild mate and the leggings dropped after four hours and the cloak dropped after six. Held the room for another 5 hours and the alchemist didn't even show. Being I still needed one I went back on Sunday with a friend. He was a level 31 shammie as well. The room is very small and there are three additional casters outside. When you first break the spawn you need to root the mobs so they don't run outside and get help. If they do don't worry with sow I made it out alive. Getting back to Sunday I rolled up in there and saw the alchemist was actually there as a first spawn. Me and my friend broke it with ease and got the cloak. We then gated out and rolled. He won the cloak. Since it is a slow spawn rate about 25 minutes you can hold the room yourself at level 30. I could get FM and keep myself buffed with this kind of time and without clarity. I went back to the room and 25 minutes later the alchemist popped again I was very surprised. Needless to say after about 3 casts of my DD and root he was dead. Pretty easy if you ask me. The beautiful thing was he dropped a second cape. Don't know what the odds are or if it was becuase I gated out and then returned, but I had some great luck.
