not a bad item

*shrug* Not everyone can have the best items in the game. This is a great item for a lower level player who is looking to camp all their own gear. But then, that actually never happens anymore.

That actually _is_ happening :)
Of course I don't say no when somebody is giving an item to me that he doesn't need anymore, but most of the time I tend to get all my gear by myself...

You will probably never see another one of these again. Why? It costs 100PP to do quest. For 100PP there are so many other back items available that make this look like junk. Why pay an NPC 100PP for this when so much better is available? I know, I know, this is an old item and back when it was new 100PP was still considered a lot of money, but now 100PP is nothing and there is a lot more low end items available that are so much better than this.

Not that I am an expert on the ways of monk-hood, but I am wondering why this is worth so much. I understand that its difficult to get. Many quests are difficult, and sometimes the reward doesn't always seem to be a fair representation of the work that is needed, but I am looking at the stats and am just perplexed at anyone spending the money.

Spider Fur Cloak
MAGIC ITEM
AC: +10 Str: +4 Sta: +4 Cold Resist: +6
Weight: 0.0 !
Classes: All Classes
Races: All Races
Inventory Slot: Back
Required: Yes

Granted this item, as well as all the Spider Fur clothing items drop off of approx. lv 50 mobs as far as I can tell, but the availability is abundant and you can pick one up easily for around 200-300pp (at least on Veeshan). Again, I'm not trying to slam anyone for picking one or the other, I'm just posing a question. The last posted price was in April, so I understand time frame might have played a part in this, but I'm just trying to outfit my monk with the most beneficial gear, like everyone else, and am wondering if/why I should remove this from my Iksar and spend 1kpp... Getting the cloak
# Nov 08 2001 at 4:01 PM Rating: Good
In West Karana, at nighttime, near the ogre camp (in the bandit infested hills) the wereeolf appeared on track. After snaring, slashing and piercing the beast, I bent over to loot the corpse and found nothing but empty slots. As I straightened my posture and prepared to continue my jaunt, my track sense indicated another werewolf was near. This one soon fell under my blades and gave up his werewolf pelt. It was a one sided fight favorable to the 35 ranger.

On to everfrost I went to search for Karg Icebear. It was a good place to camp thanks to tracking and the lucrative mammoth hunting experience. I managed to slay his brother Martar a couple of times and loot his cloak of the icebear twice. Karg would not show up after 6 hours of hunting.

My search was interrupted, for a patch to the zone was needed. I returned to Everfrost within minutes of the server being back up and found only one other player in the zone with me. Thankfully, Karg was there, too. I rushed to him near the icy orc temple where I hailed him until he stopped to chat with me. After giving him the werewolf pelt, he asked me if I had the other thing he required. I fished 100 pp from my pockets and handed it to the fellow, and he rewarded me with the werewolf cloak. Sadly, he despawned immediately after the cloak was handed to me.

As a side note, this was soon following a GM event from Halloween when there were werewolves running rampant in some zones, and werewolf pelts were common accesories for many other hunters in Everfrost. I was lucky that I caught Karg when I did, for if somebody else would have beat me to him, it would have been a long wait until I would have had the chance to trade with himn again.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 31 2001 at 10:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The Most Important thing for a monk is Aji; Wu's Clock has 5AC 4Aji, This Clock Has 5AC 3Str 3Dex. And Both of them are not very havey, but the Wu's Clock is only costs about 65PP, this cost clock costs about 1000PP. I would Say because Aji Is Very Important for monks, the Wu's And This are just as good, exepet this one cost 945PP More!

dex doesnt increase the speed you attack
dex doesnt increase your attack rating.
dex doesnt increase your attack in any way, other then procs.

dex raises the speed at which offensive spells improve.
dex increases the speed that you proc.

I made the mistake of allocating all 20 of my points to dex rather then strength when I created my monk. I believed it would increase the speed that I attack.

The plus side is that I have all of my weapon skills(1hb, 2hb,hth, etc) maxed out each level.

This is an old debate with Monks, just depends how you want to play. Some say AGI & DEX, others say STR & STA. Personally I kind of like a combo of all 4. STR is better for hitting, STA is better for HP & swinging weapons (even light ones get heavy on long fights), swimming, etc. AGI is better for your Dodge skills & such. DEX is pretty much just good for weapon procs & combat skill increases. If you keep your skills maxxed like a good monkey the latter shouldn't be much of an issue, and the former only if you have a proccing weapon. *shrug*
It's all personal preference. If you can use it great, if not sell it to help pay for a Froggie Crown or something.

The most important stats for a monk are str and dex. The best defense is a good offense! This cloak only costs 100pp if you get the skin and take it to klarg like I did. My monk has a white wolf hide cloak though so I guess I will be looking for a buyer.

I offered to do this quest for a guildmember who already had the pelt but was transportationally challanged. So I go into it thinkin a couple hours and I'm outta here..... wrong. I bound myself at Megans tower and banged on the track button for a whole week rl, total of about 40 hours camp time. Karg is a totally random spawn with no set spawn time or place, the only thing that is close to constant for him is one of the 3 paths he walks (provided he isnt killed as soon as he spawns) I finally found him just west of the permafrost entrence and he must have spawned near there because I was checking track as fast as possible and saw him and found him in under a minute. Finally got the cloak. Strength items for the back are few and far between and usually not attainable by low-mid level char's. Nice piece and managed to lvl while waiting for him, made some cash off of mammoths and killed his brother a couple dozen times and got the cloak of the icebear too. My advice is to be or hire a tracker and plant your rear end at megans tower and settle in for a long ride. (btw dont try and save Megan that girl will just keep on dieing) any questions see me on seventh hammer

#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 17 2001 at 6:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Lol, you had to pay 100pp to finish the quest! Why didn't you just drop 65pp and the skin on the ground and forget it!?
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 14 2001 at 7:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Heh...surprisingly enough, the going price on these on Zebuxoruk is 4-6k. (Kinda hard to believe since everything else usually sells pretty low on that server). Stat wise I certainly don't think it's worth anywhere near that, but looks like there aren't that many of em floating around on that server.
I doubt it

130pp?? After picking up a werewolf pelt I spent 3 levels in Everfrost before Karg showed up and I had a chance to turn in the pelt before someone killed him. Between the waiting and the 100pp you need to give him for the cloak, I don't think you'll find anyone to sell this for less than 500.
RE: I doubt it
# Nov 05 2001 at 10:09 PM Rating: Default
If you read what he actually says, he wants to buy the PELT for 130pp, not the cloak (even if he does call it a skin). So, the seller won't have given 100pp for it yet, and wont have had to wait for Karg to show up yet, which makes 130pp not too unreasonable. Anyone who wanted the cloak for 130pp, on the other hand, feel free to laugh in their face.
#Anonymous, Posted: Apr 30 2001 at 11:37 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Bearcut21@aol.com This is my email. I want to buy the werewolf skin. Ill buy it for 130pp on the vallon Zek server. Name is reboltx, and am really looking to get this cloak.
Nice

Great cloak for a monk considering the weight, however I would personally try to get a white-wolf hide cloak, especially for an iksar monk, since their svcold suffers.
