Banded is a nice newbie set of armor. There are thirteen (13) pieces in the set (Belt, Boots, Bracer [2], Cloak, Gauntlets, Gorget, Helm, Leggings, Mail, Mantle, Mask, Sleeves). The whole set of armor will give you +91 to your armor class (thats with 2 bracers). When I first started EQ banded was really popular and would sell for 2pp per ac point. This was pre-bazaar. Now you can get various piece in the bazaar for fairly cheap from those trying to up their blacksmithing skills.
I write this post to encourage any new blacksmiths. To my surprise I was able to complete a full suit of banded armor - including the mail and leggings - with approximately 80 points in smithing. Even at this level there were few failures on the combines. So if you're forging a full suit for one of your characters and aren't just trying to skill up, you might want to give it a try at this skill range.
I am currently making this, and many other random bits and bobs on Venril Sathir. Gimme an Email if there's anything you need making (Currently a master Blacksmith, Baker, Brewer, Potter and Fletcher as of 3/4/03) =)
Looking for that great gift for the new EQ addict? get them a suit of banded. Its fairly cheap as a full suit runs just about 50pp if you get a good price and they will own the newbie areas!
Wow, it's hilarious to browse old forums and find ancient postings by yourself. Does anyone still use banded? If you're a new player and need a set, send me a tell.
Hey, I have a low-level rogue who is in desperat need of better armor...especially Chest slot armor. I am Ratharina, /tell me in-game, and I will come to you or meet you half-way. I am currently in the East Commonlands. E-mail me at: Nightrider@chatway.com I WILL NEGOTIATE PRICE!!!!! *I do not have Velious, so I can't go there...sorry
I have a barb war who is desperately in need of better equip, please email me -- 2-trace@cox.net for times when you will be on and selling this equip. Thank you
I've have on my level 20 gnome warrior, ringmail, leather, banded mail, and acouple fine plate mail pieces, and I'm making it just fine. My gnome enchanter on the other hand id totally twinked at only level 9, and is probably doing about as good as you warrior is, I mean how many level 9 enchanters do you see running around with a Robe of the Kedge on?
Lately I've been twinking the poor warrior more than levelling. He's now got full crafted, and a centi longsword/shortsword combo, hero bracer, etc. I've managed to occasionally pop on and level him up to about 22. I really didn't intend to twink him quite this much, but I get a lot of trades for stuff I sell.

I threw a set of banded on my new warrior at level one, along with a blackened alloy longsword (at lvl 5). At level 17, with better equipment now (blackened alloy armor, orc fangs, jagged bands, etc) His offense, defense, 1hs, 1hb, dual wield, dual attack are all maxxed. Unfortunately I let the 2hs and 2hb lag a bit :( But my point is, my skills did not suffer from the twinking. In fact i find that I max all of the skills out within 1 yellow of a new level. Nice theory, but my experience has been that it's not true. BTW, I fought mostly yellows, whites and reds through about lvl 8. Perhaps that is why the skills still went up.
I'm on the Veeshan server currenty spending obcene ammounts of plat skilling up in smithing and fletching. If anyone wants me to make them somthing send me a note at "darkestchilde@yahoo.com". Right now I have a 160 Fletching and 130 smithing but that is subject to change. If you see me on 'Skavor' I'll be glad to make the items for you if you buy the materials... for a fee of course...

Built up my skill in Freeport but it doesn't sell too good there. Most probably because of competition with other smiths and that fact that area is a hot spot for generous high lev characters giving away better armour or selling better armour for way below cost.
When I want to sell I go to the Qeynos/Everfrost area and it sells like crazy. All the equipment to make banded is there except small molds (Sorry little guys) and there are plenty of unused forges around Q.
1pp per ac is the standard price, unfortunately. For the price of materials it should be higher (About a 50% profit margin if I'm "completely" succesful the first time) But if it sold for any higher, nobody would buy it.
The only level 1 character that could get this is a twink, unless someone is feeling generous. Besides, you're not really helping yourself, because your defense skills will suffer, and you'll notice it in a few levels.

True. But if you want colored banded, you can get it (but can't smith it); get the Loda Kai armor off of the Loda Kais in Shadeweaver's Thicket. Same AC as banded, but with a nice dark blue (almost black) color.
Only drawback is that its heavier than banded. It has an awesome look though. Fashion or function I guess.
BTW My smith on The Rathe can make this stuff all day long, and can't give it away. Ok, she can give it away, but sell it? Not even for 1pp per AC. Not even at COST. I could make these at 10pp each, and make a small profit, and a new player would have a great piece of armor, but apparently they don't need it.
Good thing I took up smithing and tailoring for my own uses. Smithing market, at least at low end, is dead.
Kill for Peace, Elessarion: Fletcher, Baker, Brewer, Fisher, Forager Kzinnia: Smith, Tailor The Rathe
I think the reason no one wnats to buy banded is because it isn't that much better than the newbie quest armor. And the newbie quest armor gives you stats to boot.
