I was able to Sneak/Hide and get this at loc 178, -320.
I /conned everything in the streets on the way to the building with the book, following Rhoth Fairson's post to the letter.
While some of the Lichs could see through my hide/sneak, the proximity must be rather low, as I was able to go by them with a bit of caution.
When I got to the building, there were two see invis mobs and three non-see invis types. One see-invis critter had its back to me, so sneak probably helped me there, and the other was another Lich. I was able to move past this Lich at about 15 feet in front of its face without aggroing it. The side room, the first room off to the right when you get inside the building had no mobs in it and the book was open on the small dresser. Keep in mind that even though this side room was unoccupied, the tiny building had 5 mobs in it, all within 20 feet or so of me.
But sneak /hide stayed on while picking it up. So, with relief, and some disappointment due to not getting into a crazy fight at the end and praying that my hammer would proc, I made it out of Hate without incident! I just made my way back to the zone in area, and camped...and will use the Go Home option the next night I log in.
So, I'm guessing that at 65+, the light blue see-invis mobs won't aggro with Hide/Sneak on unless you get on top of them!
ok. first off the Maestro's House...its directly across from the castle. just turn around. Now I had a hard time with my 51rogue, the Lich's could see thru her sneak/hide. so had some guildmates come up and help me clear that room. we invised up to there and only killed what stood in ourway. had my rogue camped at the top of the castle steps, in the corner twas a safe spot. Logged her on and got the book.
I followed Erewhon of Seventh Hammer's advice and it worked like a charm. I logged out in the room with the book, waited 6 hours then clicked the button to send me to my home town. I did sit outside the door to the building pissing myself for about an hour before hand.

Your all cattle, ripe for the slaughter. Nothing more nothing less...
Just got the book the other day. As soon as I zoned in I self-invised (hide/sneak), then worked my way across the bridge and back to the Maestro's Castle - turned around, went in the door directly ahead of me - up the small stairs to the right and BINGO, the book was on the nightstand. Went back outside, around the corner and used a Gate Potion. After reading all these posts, I guess I got lucky, because NOTHING saw through my invis - not even Banshees, however, I did not run across any Lichs, just some Banshees and ALOT of Clerics of Hate. And yes, the respawn rate is 10 hours from the last time it was looted - best time to go get it is early morning (if possible).
It took two tries getting the book as a level 61 rogue trying to do the Guise of the Coercer quest. The first time, it was not up. The second time it was. According to the best rogue epic walkthrough I've seen (linked below), the Book of Souls has a 5 hour pop time. I tried to get it at 1:15pm the first time, and at 8:24pm it was up when I tried again.
As for getting to the book, it's quite simple to do solo or with a wizzy friend. You can hand a soulstone to Relm M'Loch in Plane of Tranquility to be ported to Hate now, or go in with a wizard.
The first time, I put all my gear in the bank, ported in with a wizard, and had him cast a Trans to Nexus on me. (I also had Spirit of Eagle, Focus of the Seventh, and Virtue-thanks PoK bombers!) It's a very short run, so sneak/hide, go right over the bridge, right around the building, and you will see the Cathedral in the back. There is a courtyard with an arch, and to the right is the house you need to get into. There is sometimes a treasure chest in front of the door, sometimes not. Go in, turn right, and there is the dresser with the Book of Souls on it. The first time it wasn't up, so I clicked yes to trans. The second time, I didn't get a trans, just ran to the room, clicked the book, and ran back to the entrance of the zone. There were no Lichs up to see through my sneak/hide.
If you wanted to do it solo, you could give the stone to Relm M'Loch and have any gate potion on hand (swirling smoke, Thurg, Player made) and make a dash for it, then gate out. Both times I went up there, people were clearing out some of the mobs at the entrance. However, the mobs around the courtyard and in the building with the book were up, and didn't see through invis.
Can anyone confirm the respawn time on the Book of Souls? I've read 10 hours on several Ragebringer walk-throughs, but I've been here since the 9 hour mark from the last rogue snagging the book, and it's now been 12 hours.
Can the turn in to starpyr be mq'd? My brother got the book for me while I was in iraq, unfortunately he got it with his rogue and not mine. I am planning on killing Renux this afternoon but if it can't be mq'd I'm not going to bother with getting guildies together. Please let me know.
If Rogue #1 does the epic all the way up to spawning Renux again, then Rogue #2 can loot the JDD and Parchment needed to get the sealed box and final turn in for the Ragebringer.
When i did it, no mobs saw my invis... i had a wizzie (65) port me in, he was a friend so he waited at the port in... i ran around till i found it, then i met him back at the port in and he ported us out.. NOTHING saw invis... maybe i was just lucky
the loc bonecrusher says is correct and its in a building outside of maestros main room. it had an Ashenbone Drake in the door and couple mobs in the back. the book is sitting on top of a dresser opened.
got mine today after trying last night only having it despawn just as i went to grab it <(
tried a few months ago nekkid and solo and got squashed was fery funny......as to the lanys posters,,,, 1st is lanys like Fv now where you can sell the book of souls which is no srop on all but FV cept for those who MQ and 2nd is lany's special that you can map hate? any server ive tried it on says no to mapping of it so what gives with those former posts?
I (finally) attained my Book of Souls on 8/3/03, and here's some things you need to know if you plan to sneak in "solo" to get it.
First - I know there are player-made maps of the zone; if you don't know how the quickest route to the Maestro's Hall, get a map and draw a line from the zone to there so you know which way to turn.
Second - Bring a group to clear the bridge at the head of the zone. The mobs on the bridge (four) are random spawns. If they are undead, they'll see through your Hide, and there's no good way to sneak by them short of having someone either pull them, or Calm them. BEFORE you get all hot to go down there, have the Wiz use an "Eye" spell to scout the chamber to make sure the book is actually there. This would have spared me a death when I went in, got spotted, and died running around trying to figure out what went wrong.
Third - There are two patrollers on the streets along the direct route. For me, it was a Lich and a Revenant, who (of course) both see through Hide. They move along fixed routes, changing positions about every 3 minutes. There are lots of corners and other nooks and crannies for a rogue to hide in while you let the mobs go through their patrol patterns. Be patient. And be careful, the second patroller (closest to the Book) walks right up to a spot right in front of the chamber you want to go in, and you could wind up bumping into him quite by accident.
Fourth - The building you want is directly across from the steps up to the Maestro's Hall. There's a decorative, free-standing arch right in front of the door to the one you want. The building itself is shaped like a plus sign "+", with the door being on the "south" end. The book is in the right side chamber of the room, against the right wall, slightly off-center to the north. It's practically a flyspeck-size book. There will be a mob in the dead center of the room, two against the back wall of the "north" chamber, and one against the "north" wall of the right-hand chamber, immediately beside the Book. Just my luck, the mob beside the Book was a Scorn Banshee who - wait for it - sees through Hide. For me, it was the only one who saw through Hide; the other mobs were an Ashebone Drake (middle), Priest of Hate, and an Abhorrent (both on the north wall). If the mob beside the Book engages melee, DON'T try to run away. If you are buffed and can take the abuse for a few seconds, do it; run directly at the Book. The mobs in the other chambers didn't add despite the cramped conditions. They added and killed me the first time because I ran for the door to put my corpse in a more favorable-for-recovery spot.
Fifth and finally, have an instant escape route planned. If you get spotted, you won't have much time before you're dead. The Banshee was hitting me for as much as 230 damage per swipe, and Bashing like a crazy...well, you get the idea. Call of the Hero would be ideal. Unless the patrollers are aligned in their patterns "just so," a postponed TL window will probably fade before you can make it there safely. Halfling rogues would be advised to bring the quested version Leatherfoot Raider Skullcap for the Circle of Common insta-port. I decided to wager on my luck, went in with Virtue, Speed of the Shissar, and equipped my Worker Sledgemallet. I got the Book, got taken down to 55% health before I got lined up for my first swing...which proc'ed right away for me.
Hope these notes prove helpful. Oh, and if you have to drag a corpse back to the zone line for a rez from a failed attempt, use the F9 alternate views to look around corners before charging out. It's as slow as salmon swimming upstream, but necessary to avoid a DOUBLE corpse run.
well the Smooth man got the book last night on the 1st attempt (not like the stained parchment top). anyhow the loc listed on matt waggoner is EXactly right. i had a 55 wizzy port me in and gave him 50pp for a translocate. he seemed a little puzzled but took the money and cast the spell. so with the window open and the clock ticking, i realize that i have NO map. DAMN. well made my /loc hot like i used to have before VI gave every n00b SH of 200 at birth and off i went. i /con every mob while hiding and sneaking. you go up stairs on right and tiptoe past several mobs (some were Banshees). then you make a quick left and then right to get out of port in room. you go up the road (after checking for patrols) and the book is in the buildingto your right. i tip toed up and /con everything. i had sow on too so i was moving quickly i went into the houes, up the stairs on right and there was the book sitting opened right next to a MoB. i was feeling frisky so i ran, left click book, hear sound effect, click YES to translocate button -- BINGO got it baby.
I've been helping my wife with her epic quest and have found a few questions. What building is the book in after the revamp? According the locations given below that would put it somewhere besides in the Organ hall where most guides say the book is. I'll be going on tuesday and depending on how things go I may be rateing my own post.
