Orb of the Fire Son (Sol Ro) or Blackflame Sphere (Pyronis) are much better PoP range items for a shaman.
This dropped from a named mob during the Fishlord cycle. We had 22 people but 3 groups could probably get it.
Yes I'd agree it is a nice item but far from the best range item in the game I'd ask for it on a raid to upgrade what I have, but once you get to coirnav you'll prolly have better imho. here are a few that will prolly already be in that slot by the time a shaman gets to coirnav~

I could be wrong, but this looks like a very nice item. I'm no Shaman but still if I were I would jump at the chance to get this.
